We pick up this episode that evening, where Amanda is at the Bierhaus to meet Haddy.. because she is a tourist, not an agent.. and if he smells an agent he will take off.. Yep.. that must be why Lee, an agent, is there
??!! The script was even worse and had Francine posing as a beer maid.
We hear impatient Lee as we see the exterior of the bierhaus: Haddy will be here any minute! Remember your code words and get your stein.
Finally we see Lee in the beirhaus in his hawaiian shirt bossing Amanda around..
Amanda: Where is it?
Lee indicates with a nod where to go! Ugh.. 
Amanda bounces along with the music and a big nervous smile.. and Lee hurries her along..Amanda is not fast enough for his liking.. way to go Lee.. make her more nervous! It is ridiculous that he is there, but trying to act like he is not there, and then totally intruding and rushing her along.. but at least we get a pay off for Lee being there.. and I like to think he is there for Amanda’s protection 
We see Amanda find her stein, use a key ( whoo tough assignment!), open the little door and pick up her stein !
What’s our payoff? Check out the little smile Lee gives as he watches Amanda
bouncing along to the music
Bartender: Do you want beer?
Amanda: Ja ja ja ja! 
The bartender hands her back the stein full of beer (we don’t see Amanda pay – is it free with the stein or something? Can someone explain to me the whole beer stein locked in a cupboard concept? Teach me something please ) Amanda is taken by surprise by how heavy the full stein is.. and nearly drops it..
Bartender: careful haa!
LOL I would imagine it is nothing compared to the gallon of milk that she has in her fridge at home! [no we do not have huge gallons of milk for sale in Australia!]
Amanda: Thank you.
Amanda’s big smile firmly in place she starts 
dancing around with the full beer stein..only she gets bumped 
into, swings her stein out of the way, and the beer flies out into someone’s face.. 
Amanda: Oh, I’m so sor-
Amanda realises the someone is Lee!

while Lee just seems stunned and incredulous!
Amanda: Oh, I’m so sorry.
Amanda as the beer toting dumb tourist is a funny sight! Lee covered in warm lager is even funnier! yeah, way to go Amanda!

Amanda: I’m trying, I really am.
I swear as she says this Lee ( or BB) looks like he is trying not to laugh! I bet there are some fabulous outtakes of this scene!!!! 
Amanda sits at a long communal table..
Random Man: Cheers.
Amanda raises her stein: Cheers.
As she sips her beer (Well,not really! the beer doesn’t quite reach her mouth!), a man approaches her and stands next to her saying: This music’s not exactly Bob Dylan, is it?
whoooo a 3rd Bob Dylan reference in 2 weeks!!!
Amanda: I like the Beatles more.
Haddy: Yeah. (He walks around and sits at the table opposite Amanda) Especially the White Album. Remember, “Happiness …?”
Amanda: “– is a warm gun.”
Haddy: You really are a tourist. 
Amanda: Yes, I really am. I’m here with my mother and my two boys. Well, I 
don’t mean here, they’re not here here, they’re back at the hotel, the Hilton. I am a tourist. . . . Would you like some beer?
Why does Haddy say ‘you really are a tourist’ after Amanda responds by finishing the name of the beatles song? I don’t get it.!!!!!! Why would he want a tourist and not agency anyway?
he knows he is making a deal with agency.. I am completely lost..
Haddy gives Amanda his info.. he is set to kill a prominent american in the next 48hours, he needs out fast! ..
Amanda: Who are you supposed to kill?
Haddy: I won’t know until just before. That way I 
can’t warn anyone or back out. All I know is it’s an American, here in Munich, forty-eight hours, when the night falls.
Amanda: Well, I can see why you’d want to leave.
Haddy: There’s another reason. I just learned . . . I have a son. He’s seven years old, 
I’ve never seen him before. I met his mother over here. I didn’t even know we had a child. And now I’ve just been told she’s been killed in a car accident back in the States. He’s going to need somebody. I’m his father.
Haddy is a Daddy??? who would have thought. 
Amanda: Oh, well, I —
Haddy: People can change, you know! Sometimes even for the better!
Uh oh.. Haddy sees flutey boy ( Thanks Paula!) and Inga have just walked in..
Haddy continues quickly: Give me the Agency’s answer tomorrow. Ten o’clock. St. George’s church. Amanda turns to dig her guidebook out of her bag. Amanda repeats: St. George’s church. Ten o’clock tomorrow.
Haddy does a surprise goodbye on Amanda while she is searching her guidebook!
Amanda talking to now absent Haddy: Yes, do you happen to know what number that is in my –
Amanda is unaware that Inga and Flutely boy have noted her talking to Haddy the daddy.. Haddy goes to greet them warmly and 
pretends all is ok.. but.. Inga gives Amanda the death stare!!! uh oh..
Hey.. when Haddy says to Amanda he will meet her tomorrow at ‘ st george’s church’ his lips don’t match the words – looks like he said another church and then in post production they changed it!
So where is Lee in all this? Did he just leave? why didn’t he stay and meet Amanda after? I guess he only stayed till he saw her make contact with Haddy?? Lee’s presence and then absence makes no sense to me.. but.. beer in face? caressing hair? I don’t care!
I love how this scene ends with Amanda
sitting at the table, still absorbed in her guidebook , she takes a big swig of the beer 
as she keeps reading – her expressions here are so funny! 
I realised KJ 
finishes this scene by entertaining us with Amanda drinking beer and reading a 
book! how’s that for talent!! She can even make reading a book entertaining.. she’s so good at comedy Love it..
The next day, we see Amanda, back with her family on a street corner in Munich. Man.. they do a lot of shopping on holiday!!
Amanda says goodbye to them and goes to meet Lee.. Love how in the background here, all the bike riders are staring straight into the camera!
I think this next scene with Lee must have been paxed ( ie. cut out- when shown on the pax channel in the USA)- because Claudia has not included this scene with Lee in her transcription.. Such a shame too.. but Lucky us!!!

Amanda is so absorbed in her guidebook Lee gives her a surprise hello [gosh how many is that now for Amanda!]
Lee: Well! How’d your little meeting go with Haddy?
Amanda: well it was very sad.
Lee: sad? why?
Amanda: did you know he has a little boy he has never seen? And that the little boy’s mother was killed in an automobile accident? It’s one of the reasons he wants to go home.
[this must be a hand held camera here.. it’s a bit jumpy!!] A little boy left without a mother.. that must hit close to home for Lee..
Lee: I’d say that’s a damn good reason.
Amanda: yeah.
Lee is genuinely sincere here . Oh my.. old Lee would have not cared and been in a huff at Amanda’s sentimentality…
Lee: did he tell you anything else?
Lee puts his arm around Amanda and directs her down the street.. awh..
Amanda: well we’ve got to get him out of Munich, he’s in a lot of trouble.
Lee: ha yeah I know that. Now look, we’re suppose to meet Billy and Francine..
[The camera work in this scene is kinda interesting.. it must have been hard to film on public streets like this..
you see in this picture the camera has to let Lee and Amanda walk straight past it.. it looks like Kate is looking sideways to get past the cameraman and not trip on him.. and look! you can see Bruce’s mic under his tie attached to his shirt!]
Lee continues: ..then you can brief us all at once.
Amanda: check! Now, listen, Lee…I’m very sorry about the beer I spilled on you (I’m not! )
Lee: Noo don’t!
Amanda continues over the top of him: Now, I don’t think it will stain…
but if it does- some people say that you can use 
beer to get a stain out…I don’t know if it’s an old wives tale
Lee: Amanda please! ha it’s not important!
[As if Lee was EVER going to wear that shirt again-I am sure he is happy it is ruined ]
I love how these two manage to somehow always touch each other
.. Lee touches Amanda lots turning her and guiding her down the street.. and Amanda manages to slip in a little touch of his jacket while apologising for spilling beer on him Tooooo cute!!! Which is why I am so glad this scene is in this episode
Lee continues-suddenly in business mode- too funny!! : .. now meet me at the Arkaden in two hours.
Amanda: the what?
Lee: ha number 22 in your map book.
Amanda: Number 22, Number 22 in two hours.
Lee leaves Amanda there.. what a shame they couldn’t spend the two hours together
Amanda sounds very stuffed up in this scene.. poor KJ must have been fighting a cold at some stage..
Ok Munich locals!!! Teach me??!! – what’s the Arkaden???
I thought Haddy the daddy wanted to meet Amanda at 10am.. and Amanda is meeting Lee in two hours? so what is it 7am?? but the family had already done tons of shopping that morning!!! this time line doesn’t make sense.. bring on the tuxedo and then I won’t notice a thing!

Bruce has mentioned on occasion that the best thing about these episodes, along with the travel, was being taken to Saville Row to get bespoke suits made and my, oh my, they really did do a lovely job.

So much for being inconspicuous, Mr. Secret Agent Man. That Aloha shirt drew everyone’s attention for a long look at you. No wonder Haddy demanded to meet with a run-of-the-mill tourist! Good thing Amanda’s frivolity forced Lee to return to his room early and change. Wearing a colorful, tropical shirt emanating “beer de cologne” would be attractive to the wrong crowd. LOL
The S&MK crew would film as much as possible early in the morning, before there were curious pedestrians on the sidewalks and the streets were noisy with traffic.

After the way Lee treats Amanda in this episode I laughed so hard at the beer flying in his face! Hah hah! (Yes, you look goooorgeous but, hey, you’re not allowed to be mean just coz you are droolworthy.) I agree with you iwsod, way to go Amanda! I don’t think having to wear that godawful shirt is quite punishment enough Lee. You need to go back to your timeout corner and think about how to be sweet to Amanda. Now, go! Hah!

ROFL!!! I just realized two more things regarding the Magnum PI shirt that Lee is wearing:
1. it’s two different shirts–compare iwsod’s first two pictures of it in this post (where it has the orange-red stripe [volcano plume?] on the collar) with the pictures further down (where the stripe is gone and there’s now magically a hibiscus flower below the collar)… wah hah hah! 😀
and 2. the first shirt (with the volcanoes) is the same one Buck (the new neighbour) wears when we first meet him at the start of Tail of the Dancing Weasel. 😀

Lee getting beer spilled on you is the least of your worries wearing that shirt!! Sorry but only Tom Selleck could pull off those hideous shirts and that was partly because he was actually in Hawaii!
Oh dear. Simon Callow. You’re such a great actor but jeez your American accent is just terrible!!!!! It makes me cringe listening to his lines lol
Am I being a bit heartless here but this is a man involved in terrorism and presumably the murder of innocent people we are all supposed to feel sorry for him?! I feel sorry for his son but I am struggling with this aspect

In the script it has Amanda not responding to Haddy right away and she realizes that it is him and goes after him and kinda of stumbles over the reconnition codes and once they get through them he says you really are a tourist. But, it would have made more sense for us if they had left that in there 🙂

I just came across something interesting.. I found a press photo from this episode in Munich, and it shows Francine in traditional bavarian clothing carrying beer steins.. Hmm.. just like the script had Francine at the beer haus! Sooo I guess this means.. they planned to have her in the scene ( and this is a costume trial photo) or they actually shot the scene with Francine in it and cut her out ( whooo out takes for future dvds???!!!)

I think Australian milk is in 500ml, 1 litre or 1.5 liter packs maybe 2 litre.. I’ll have to look next time I am at the shops.. but I remember I was amazed when I lived in the US at the size of some of their products! 🙂
Yes that hawaiian shirt did scream tourist – if only because only a tourist would be dumb enough to wear one! 😉 and.. I guess it is a way for smk to add to the humour of it all.. ( some dorky glasses with some tape in the middle would have gone down well with the shirt too..)

OK, why is Lee wearing a hawaiian shirt in Germany?!? His shirt reminds me of the Psych episode “And Down the Stretch Comes Murder” when Shawn kept making fun of his father’s lucky track shirts. “Wow, Dad. Tell me you’re wearing that shirt because someone has to spot you from space.” 🙂

I agree with you on the 2 hours thing. If they are both posing as tourists, why couldn’t they spend the 2 hours together? That would have been a treat to see.

The Arcaden-thing: arcaden – arch (hope this is the right word).
These arcaden are in the Hofgarten, where Amanda and Lee walk with Billy and Francine.
And Amanda and Dotty came out of the Hofgarten with the boys an shopping bags.
Also its behind Amanda and Lee, you can see the street sign above Amandas head when she touches his jacket. Behind her you can see the restaurant (www.tambosi.de) from the tag scene.
All the same location from a different angle.
Oh my… This episode is great, with a funny KJ, mmmhhh looking BB, and a script.. o.k. I have a look on the tuxedo 🙂
The Bierhaus from the outside dosn’t look familiar to me. I think it’s at a Germantown in the US.

The Beerstein-thing: each regular has his own stein locked in a cupboard. Like a locker at a bank. Anyone can rent one for 3€ each year.
This lockers are only in the Hofbräuhaus.
