Any excuse to post another kissing pic!! I love how with this kissing gif- it looks like they are kissing and rekissing all the time!! haaa!!
Also, I find it interesting how close up the camera is on their Ship of Spies kiss – compared to their kiss from Do You Take this Spy!
In this ep- I was wondering where their hands were! I was thinking they weren’t embracing at all -just kissing.. Which is in contrast to their actual wedding- [LOL they had no ‘actual’ wedding- they are fictional characters! ok.. the character’s ‘real wedding’! You know what I mean!)] In Do You Take This Spy, they went for the wider shot, and you can see they are in a much much closer embrace. True Love!!
Do you have a preference?? (I like them both!)
Anyway, back to this episode..Amanda helps Lee back down the aisle
( ) See what the next bride was wearing? a white suit… I would have thought Amanda would go for something like that too given the marriage isn’t real. I guess with all the frills and lace we could say she was overcompensating! (not to mention it is easier to jump out of a car in a big skirt than a short a-line skirt 😉 )
Anyway, Lee and Amanda head over to the table laid out with wedding cake, drinks and goodies.. Lee takes another deep breath, and reaches for a couple of champagne flutes.. Love the champagne fountain! Remember them?!!! LOL!!
Amanda juggles her dress, the flower bouquet and her glass.. dealing with her flowers, Amanda says: It’s fake! Too bad they’re not real, it would have been nicer.
What a thing to say straight after a ‘fake’ wedding!!! Haaaaa… is Amanda really talking about the flowers? She could also be referring to the wedding itself!! I like to think it is a subliminal commentary! hehehehe
Lee responds: Well at least your 18 karat wedding ring is real huh.
Lee takes a much needed drink from the sounds of it! A bit dry in the mouth there Lee?
I know this line of Lee’s is the link to Amanda working out the carats/karats…. but it’s interesting to see that Lee responds by pointing out what is real.. hmm.. real/fake.. It is probably just me.. but I think the writers did great to make this the topic of conversation- after a fake wedding where real emotions were present!!! What’s real?? what isn’t?? Seems to be the big idea here..
Amanda smiles at Lee’s response and looks down at her wedding ring.. and the lightbulb goes on!
Amanda: 18-karat. 24-karat. Lee, I think it means 24-karat gold. [I love that Amanda’s still on the case!! She isn’t distracted by the wedding at all! or the kiss ]
Lee: No, no, no. 24-karat is spelled with a K, Amanda.
Amanda: No, no. It can be spelled with a C or with a K. Jamie had it on a spelling bee. It didn’t look right
to me, so I looked it up in the dictionary. Karats with a K is for gold and carats with a C, it’s for other gems. Maybe Orlando didn’t know the difference either. [See how useful having kids doing school projects and homework can be to the spy biz Lee?!! btw- SMK is making me smarter(er)- I had no idea of the different carrots/carats/karats before this episode 😉 ]
Lee: And instead of paper money, Puerto Faro revolutionaries are being funded with gold. [You know what I find funny?? Orlando’s first language is probably not English.. but here he is telling Lee about 24 karat gold?? why wouldn’t he just say gold? Rofl! ok ok.. I know.. the 24 c was half the fun- I would have been a terrible script writer!]
Lee: You might have something here. Ah, wait, hold it, there’s a problem there. We’re talking about millions of dollars worth of gold that weighed thousands of pounds. It’d be pretty hard to smuggle aboard in your carry-on luggage.
They decide to head back to the ship and Emiliano. They both take a last big swig at their champagne before they get back to their spy stuff (you know, danger.. excitement.. Iiiinnnnntrigue! )
They put down the glasses, Amanda tells Lee: very nice ceremony.
Lee: ha ha…
…yeah.
Oh boy!! The little side glance Lee gives Amanda here is too funny! I don’t think Lee knows how to respond to that one! I don’t think he’d call the wedding ceremony ‘nice’! haaaa.. terrifying! unnerving! Amazing!.. surreal!.. but never nice!
Again, I think this shows Amanda is not that upset by the ceremony and is taking it all in her stride.. it’s Lee who’s struggling!

What do think is in Lee’s reaction here?
It’s also interesting to think- Lee is usually the first one to make a cheesy joke about something to lighten the mood.. but here.. he doesn’t have a punchline in response to Amanda.. he doesn’t know what to say! What was it Lee said about their ‘marriage’ in There Goes the Neighbourhood? LOL.. Here it is! He actually cracks two jokes about their ‘marriage’ at the end of the episode: Lee: … Yeah, I guess the honeymoon is over, huh?
Lee: You know what the whole problem with our marriage was?… It just wasn’t very exciting!
Here?? Lee can’t seem to joke about this ‘marriage’ !! Interesting!!
So off they go to drive back to the ship.. love the ‘just married’ taxi. ha haaa.. and I love how Lee gets out of the car whistling, walks around the other side and offers Amanda his hand to get out of the car.
Hmm in a good relaxed mood there aren’t you Lee! On to a lead with the case.. marrying Amanda.. life’s great huh!
Ohhh looky! Straight away Amanda happens to notice pipes being unloaded off the ship!
You’ve got to love these plot devices SMK suddenly uses to turn a case around – Amanda has this piece of trivia she knows about growing mushrooms or carrots, karats and carats! LOL!!
Aha! and again – the old Amanda trick of just happening to look at that moment.. Just like on the lake in Tegernsee!
Ohh look at that little boat!!! what are they doing?
Ohhh look at this ship? what are they doing unloading here?
Too funny.. and bam! in just a few lines, SMK can move the plot along nicely! [ I confess I don’t mind: It means more time for Lee and Amanda falling in lurrve with each other throughout the show! ]
Grrr.. Lee is not wearing a wedding ring! LOL… maybe that’s why the priest said ‘man and wife’ because only half of them is married? [sexist rubbish!]
Awhhhh Lee grabs Amanda’s fingers when he tells Amanda to go find Emiliano…
…and tell him to meet Lee in the engine room…
Awh!!! The guy can’t help himself, he’s just got to touch her!
Crazy eyes Gretz noticed Lee and Amanda reboarding the ship.. and goes to alert the other baddies while the deckhands have a break from unloading the gold..
Whoooo more of stealth Lee in a tux!!! This episode is tux heaven isn’t it?? [No wonder this ep was nominated for an emmy in best costuming!! Really! I can’t make this stuff up it’s so awesome! 🙂 Seems there are many Lee in a tux fans out there ]
Lee finds the gold! The pipes the men were unloading are gold- disguised by paint..
Amanda heads straight to Emiliano’s cabin..(ugh if only she had gotten changed out of the dress first!!) . She finds him, being held hostage by
Rackam.. Ohhh bless him, Emiliano charges at Rackam to give Amanda a running chance of getting away. (literally!) Amanda makes a run for it.. and runs into the Chinchilla, Jillian.. she pleads for her help but – duh duh duhhhh!!! Jillian is not a chinchilla, she’s a barracuda!
Given Amanda is with Lee, and Jillian isn’t.. I don’t think Jillian is going to go easy on her! Rackam arrives.. and they take Amanda away..
I’ve got to say it’s one thing to be held hostage – it’s another thing to be held hostage in a wedding dress! ugh!! I’m not sure why..but for me, it makes Amanda more vulnerable.. wearing a wedding dress should be happy..
We see the ship is still in port.. (anyone recognise it?)
We rejoin Lee in the engine room where he runs into crazy eyes Gretz…..whoa!!! Gretz actually shoots Lee’s gun out of his hand!! Haaa! Love the evil crazy eyes laugh he does when he gets Lee! So over the top- he’s funny! mauhahaaa!
ROFL love how Lee climbs up and hides waiting for Gretz to walk under him – but instead of jumping on top of him and taking him out? He jumps down behind Gretz and fights him! LOL!! well, gotta give Lee a chance to have his contractually obligated fight!! and.. we must give the stunt man a chance to earn a living! Lee defeats Gretz..but.. uh oh.. it’s Lee’s turn to get sprung at gunpoint.. 
The shot is the same as when Orlando was sprung.. I’d 
say this solves the mystery of whose hand was pointing the gun at Orlando- Miles! I quite like Miles as a baddie.. the whole bumbling friendly all american fellow tourist act was perfect.. and plays into the smk gag that we are surrounded by normal looking people who are actually up to lots of intrigue!! Being in the plastic business is so mudane! 🙂
On to a big fancy cabin, I wonder whose cabin that was.. Looks like Jillian is holding Emiliano and Amanda at gunpoint. Emiliano’s hands are bound behind his back, but Amanda’s hands are tied in front of her. There’s a knock at the door and Jillian answers, it’s Miles and Gretz bringing Lee to join them.. 
Amanda jumps when she sees Lee (poor Amanda!) and
Lee immediately exclaims ‘ Amanda! ‘ – he’s not concerned over Emiliano being held captive!
Surprise! Rackam also brings Orlando to join the reunion.. whoa.. Orlando should count himself lucky! if this was as it was originally written? he’d be dead
Lee: … These guys aren’t getting away with anything. Come on, Miles, it’s not gonna work. There’s too many people on to you.
Miles: Oh, I don’t think so. Or this island would be swarming with agents by now. No, we’ll do just fine. Tie him up.
Did you guys see Amanda when Miles said – no one is on to us or the place would be covered in agents?
Amanda gasps and then slumps.. I think from that moment on she has kind of given up hope that they are going to get out of this.. This is different to other times she’s been in trouble.. there’s no agency back up coming.. they’re in a foreign country – and she’s in a flippin wedding dress! What a huge day she has had.. she is probably thinking – I’m going to die in a wedding dress- Married to Lee Stetson!!! and robbed of my flippin wedding night!!! ARGH!!
Lee gives Miles the ‘ nothing bothers me and you’ll get yours!’ glare..
Miles (to Jillian): You made contact with the buyers yet?
Jillian: Yeah, they’ll have the boat at, uh, Playa Key Beach in an hour. We’ll get paid when the gold is safely on board.
Miles: Well, let’s get going because I don’t want to keep my friends waiting.
You know, since Miles and Jillian are baddies, I am really glad they weren’t at the wedding ceremony to witness it. While it was not a real wedding, it was a real, significant moment between Lee and Amanda.
So, everyone leaves the ship together..

As far as men’s wedding rings go, I looked at the history of them and found that they only became a little more common during World War II and Korean War, mostly for soldiers who were away from home. Growing up I don’t remember men wearing wedding rings commonly here in the US. My parents were married 25 years before my dad actually started wearing one. I remember in the 70s and 80s it started becoming more popular. Alas even the beloved husband doesn’t wear his every day. He says he’ll wear it when we go out, but when he’s at home he knows he’s married to me so why does he need to wear it? Ha ha! Love him, but maybe should kick him; gently? His ring has an opal that his mother got in Australia (where else?!). He says if I take him back to Australia to get another opal maybe he’ll wear it all the time. Any excuse to go, I’m there! I’ll get him a boulder if that’s what he wants just to go back to visit your lovely land!
Oh, by the way, it looks like Lee’s hands are holding Amanda’s upper arms while kissing. Had to look over and over and over and over again, a definite hardship, but I was up to the task. Hee hee

Hiya KC! great to see you are enjoying ship of spies and sharing your thoughts with us!! that is a great pic! though I think it is from the opposite orientation.. ie. facing the other direction – so I find it hard to tell.. plus the stockfootage in the episode could be from the 70s when the ship first started sailing so who knows..
Oh and the catch on the cars and just how old that stock footage was?? had me LOLing all over the place! I loved that!! thanks for sharing!! 🙂

Yep, I too love the way Lee looks at Amanda throughout being tied up in the car by the baddies. You cantell he really cares and wants to make everything okay. Although we know he’s going to save the day, like he always does (except for the times Amanda does), I feel like he has even more determination after seeing the scared, but resigned look on her face.
So many swoony moments in this episode. Although, with little pressure I could find a ton of swoony moments in every episode!
Another thing I want to point out that I notice everytime I see this episode. When Amanda is standing by Lee, and they are liking at eachother right after he says, “the honeymoon’s over”, Amanda looks simply gorgeous! Well, she always does, but here especially. 🙂

Yeah Amanda does look gorgeous! Thank’s for the gift, swooon! I love both kisses. The cover kiss is sweet and light but with a bang in their heads. The “real” kiss is more powerfull!
Amanda is still looking beautifull in her dress, I like it that she didn’t change the dress, o.k. Its not the best possible dress in that situation, but at the beach in Lee’s arms it’s sweet.

Really Enjoying all your observations of Ship of Spies… (as I do all your posts)… I agree with you… I love the gown she wore when they were having a drink… the back of it is so pretty… and personally I have never seen anybody wear white so well as KJ… (including her past shows)…The wedding dress is probably nothing I would have picked.. but I think she looks very pretty in it… and I think it was perfect to really put an emphasis on the fact that they were getting married, whereas a nice gown (which she already wore) or a suit would not have had the same effect… Thank for posting all the pictures….never can have too many….

LOL, Julia. As a bride of the 80’s, I like the dress too! 🙂 And I even liked the lovely hat that was “highlighted” in the previous post!! My mother told me I couldn’t wear a hat because I would look like a mushroom. (However, I noticed many other young ladies of the time managed to pull it off without looking like fungus!)
I get a kick out of whoever it is that picks the signage for SMK. It started with “you’re not in Kansas anymore” on the fridge in The First Time. I think the “wet paint” sign on the phone booth in Bromfield Hall is hysterical. Here I love the satire of “another couple happily married” on the back of the taxi … a little comment on the commercialism of mass weddings and the lack of personal touch.
Iwsod, I loved your point about the real vs fake interplay throughout the wedding scene. You’re right … it does seem intentional by the writers.

Oh! goodie! A .gif of Lee and Amanda kissing, thank you. I rewatched the whole episode and noticed the person by the boat, Amanda’s runners etc. It is amazing how it stands out when someone points this out. One thing I noticed is that Amanda did not put her seat belt on. She usually has it on and also in a Relative Situation. I have always noticed Amanda has the belt on and Lee not; it could be because it is manadatory here where Ilive. Did I miss getting “New post 10/” for ship of spies? This one is new post 11. I am just curious. Love this episode as I think this is where a spark started somewhere for Lee and Amanda and it was in this episode.
