10/10 Season Two, Episode 20: You Only Die Twice–Scarecrow and Mrs King

On to the Quarry! Can Lee make it in time to save Amanda? Winking smile
This is all quite a set up to kill Amanda..How many clowns can you fit in a bulldozer? One! Computer, economics and now bulldozer  guy Krusty Cavanaugh starts up the oh so scary bulldozer..
YODT.avi_002424880_thumb1
YODT.avi_002416288_thumbcue the huge bolder teetering on the edge of the cliff above Amanda! argh!!! Cue the scary music!! argh!! cue the sooo slow it is scary bulldozer!! eh??… Cavanaugh’s tough guy expression as he moves at a snail’s pace is just plain hilarious!!!!
YODT.avi_002428467_thumb1

Why not just shoot her.. They didn’t want her body found with a bullet hole? Okay.. but what about finding her body tied to a pipe?? Or as Francine would label it: an obvious suicide?! Winking smile

So kind of them to give Lee a chance to get over there and untie her 🙂 Lee gets closer… the bulldozer gets closer…honk honk!.. this is about the point where I nod off..yawn!
YODT.avi_002442064_thumbBozo: who the hell is that? (pointing to Lee and the Helicopter) .. my goodness.. I thought the next line was going to be: is it a bird? Is it a plane?? nope.. it’s The Scarecrow on a helicopter!!
YODT.avi_002442773_thumb1
Lee is in all out hero mode and… in a black jumpsuit!! How could I be so picky about this YODT.avi_002445609_thumb1ending hmm? after all… what more could a girl ask for..  black… jump…. suit!!
Actually, not even the jumpsuit saves this dogs breakfast..
Lee rides the helicopter down to Amanda to free her while the Bulldozer approaches the boulders above Amanda..
YODT.avi_002465671_thumb1
YODT.avi_002488486_thumb1Lee gets Amanda free and they make a run for it to the helicopter while Krusty shoots at them from the bulldozer… oh dear.. where is Lee’s back up??
Have no fear.. while the head clown and Bozo
YODT.avi_002515429_thumb1try and get away in their car, Lee’s back up arrives – Billy and Francine.. what would Lee do without them.. Lee should tell his boss how helpful they have been to him.. umm sorry? excuse me?? oh yeah.. Billy IS Lee’s Boss.. I keep forgetting that fact.. umm I can’t for the life of me imagine why.. anyway…

Oh no! Harry the helicopter guy got shot!!
YODT.avi_002528192_thumb1
Look out Lee!! (Note to any side kick of Lee’s other than Amanda: your time is limited!!)  YODT.avi_002531028_thumbLee goes to Harry to help him and Harry tells him to go (leave me he said- so Lee does!!! rofl.. does this remind people of anything???!!)
Lee’s boss can come help Harry! 😉
YODT.avi_002573571_thumb1
Yawn.. yep very very very long Helicopter chase.. guns shooting.. yawn..
Maybe we can come up with some lines that could have saved it.. Hmm.. how about this:
helicopter-gif.slower_thumb1
I care Lee.. even if it does squeak! Winking smile
Anyone else want to have a go?
I really don’t get this whole Helicopter playing with the car business here at the end.. me thinks it’s time to fast forward.. plus.. there
YODT.avi_002644475_thumbreally isn’t a good view here of Lee in his black jumpsuit 😉 Ahhh Bozo and Macey just became Thelma and Louise.. so long!
YODT.avi_002646602_thumb1
I liked this screen cap! splat!! and with that.. the action finale is over.. hooray!
Tag time! and there goes the dad and his kiddies jogging past Amanda’s.. [Are we calling this smelly family the Pitts? ]
YODT.avi_002667081
This is starting to feel a bit like Amanda is on the Truman show.. you know where they jog or drive around whatever on a loop? !!
Amanda comes in through the back door and calls: Mother!!!!!! Mother?
YODT.avi_002670167
No answer.. Amanda makes sure no one is home, she sneaks into the kitchen while Lee waits outside for the signal..
Amanda sees a note on the blackboard Smile LOL guess they found money huh!
YODT.avi_002676590
Amanda: ohhh (to Lee) come on.. come on.. Lee slowly makes his way in.. too cute..
Amanda: she went to Mr Chicken with the boys they were starving!!
Lee’s keen to put the groceries down – they seem to be heavy! Lee carrying the groceries? Now that is bringin sexy back!!Winking smile
Lee: it’s like you’re feeding an army.
YODT.avi_002686558
Amanda: yes well  I am.
Lee puts down the groceries:
ohhh!!!
Amanda discovers the cereal box:
Ohhhh!
I love how that’s all Amanda has to say with that look and Lee knows…
YODT.avi_002692272
Lee: Oh I’m sorry I could find the er crunchy crawlers. So you’ll have to do with the Oaties.
[SMK’s new sponsors!! Winking smile ]
I thought Francine was going to go do the groceries?? drat she got out of it! Actually the script never had Francine getting them- I think they added in the gag  in that earlier scene but it didn’t make sense overall.. a bit like this episode really! Winking smile )
Wait a minute.. this is the third time in this episode that we see Lee carrying a heavy physical load of some kind on Amanda’s behalf!! does this mean something??!! three times is hardly a coincidence no?!
YODT.avi_002697986Amanda puts the cereal box back: oh that’s alrig– she’s distracted by the envelope in Lee’s hand.
-what’s that.
Lee: what? well it’s just err a form I’ve got to fill out.
YODT.avi_002702282YODT.avi_002703701
Amanda: what is it? Am I still dead?
YODT.avi_002705119
Lee: it’s for internal affairs Amanda.
Amanda: why don’t you just rip it up?
YODT.avi_002710124Lee: well ahh until I process the form,
technically you are still dead.. it’s ahh agency policy.

YODT.avi_002711583Amanda: oh okay well.. if I’m still dead, can I stay dead until Tuesday?

I can take the boys to the amusement park on Monday.

Lee is stunned: ahhhh I guess so.
YODT.avi_002720843Amanda: yeah and could you reincarnate me at a higher salary? haaaaaaa!!!
YODT.avi_002723011
Lee gives her  a smile in response.. how can you resist right Lee? Smile
[love her big laugh here.. again- they are so comfortable here! I like this gag as it plays on how ridiculous it is that Amanda’s dead till Lee hands in a form- he could reincarnate her at a higher salary – maybe! Winking smile ]  Given Amanda was kidnapped twice that day for an agency computer error, she deserves a day off at a minimum!!!! She shouldn’t need to flippin ask for one! grrrr..

They look very domesticated don’t they.. and Lee is looking a bit more casual.. You know, I don’t mind Amanda’s hair at this length so much..it looks a little longer. She’s looking good considering she’s been kidnapped twice that day!

BTW- until Lee hands in the form  Amanda is officially still dead??.. I didn’t know Amanda was officially anything at the agency.. pha!!! don’t get me started on that!! Winking smile Also, her joke about wanting a higher salary is a nice little set up for the storyline of  ‘Murder between Friends’ just two episodes away..
For me, this episode like the tag, is a bit: Meh! Looking forward to hearing what you all think! soooo what do you all think? do tell!! Have you enjoyed this episode??
Up next is BJo’s two fab stats posts for Saved by the bells – and then: Burn Out is up!!! byeeee!

  1. Ohhh! I almost forgot about the Magic Bus! “Leave me!” ROFL – good thing Amanda doesn’t do what Lee tells her! Love the meme!!! And it looks like Lee’s had some helicopter flying lessons after TFT!

  2. I’m going to jump on the looking forward to BOut and MBFriends bandwagon too! I have thoroughly enjoyed your hysterical posts on this episode though, iwsod. And I appreciate you finding that silver lining, Morley. They do look very relaxed with one another. I think this episode is meant to set up MBF. Is BO going to keep it’s place in the episode order when you’re done with S2, iwsod?

    I’d like to point out my own little silver lining here – cuz like Valerie and everyone else who said it, this is not a fave – definitely in the bottom half if I were to rank them all – but that’s a project for another day. For me there is just something about a good guy with a gun – or in this case, a good guy riding on the outside of a helicopter to come in and save the day. Lee’s done it in Weekend, DRinger and now here. The chase scene as a whole is lame and I’m not a fan of the tag – think Lee should have shared just a little bit of his feelings about Amanda being dead and then not being dead at some point in this cotton-pickin’ episode!

    That last screen cap is lovely, iwsod – predict that will show up in a future stats post!! Dimple, check. Plaid, check. I might have to put it in twice!

  3. Oh, dear. So the consensus seems to be that this episode’s only redeeming features were 1) Lee in a black jumpsuit (and even that is iffy); and 2) the POTENTIAL for a wonderful, angsty scene when Lee hears that Amanda is dead – THAT WE DIDN’T EVEN GET. Sigh. I still like the popcorn scene, though.

  4. Hmmm… fun episode. Not. (But a few good Lee and Amanda moments to satisfy us.)
    OK–so one of the other things that amused me was that the baddies + Amanda left Teldar in one car, but were driving around in the quarry in another (different license plate number). LOL!!! Continuity, schmontinuity.
    Oh, yeah… the slowly crawling bulldozer that seems to move backwards when it gets too close before Lee’s close enough to save Amanda…
    Yep–Billy and Francine being backup is funny. But at least we don’t have to see Francine run very far… ‘cos that’s always painful. (For a trained agent, Francine runs too much like a girl.)
    “I care Lee.. even if it does squeak!” Actually, I’m not convinced it was just the jumpsuit… I think it was also the black dress shoes he was wearing. (As opposed to, for example, black sneakers or black boots. WTF.)
    What is with Lee saying “Here we go!” when he’s in/around the helicopter? (At Teldar building and in the quarry.)
    The Pitts. Love it!!!
    I love that Lee is carrying the groceries for Amanda, but WHY is he also carrying the form? Lee says that he has to fill it out… i.e., he doesn’t need Amanda… so why is he bringing it into her house? Whatever.
    Bring on Burn Out! (And BJo’s stats post!)

  5. Okay, so this was not a well-liked episode. Not sure how I felt about it when I first saw it. But now it is definitely not in the fave category. It has some nice touches in the Lee/Amanda dynamic, but those deadly plot holes and questionable bad guys drag it down somewhat. Do like the closeness of Lee and Amanda in the tag. Maybe some of the SMK writers wrote in a vacuum or as if each episode is a stand alone and didn’t think about continuity or the fact that 30 years later people would still be perusing them.

    Amanda has indicated her necessity for a job from the beginning of the series. Dean shot himself in the foot by offering a job only if she was his wife. The typewriter job fell through, she made sure to get reimbursed for the perfume Lee had to pour out, and she has only been working part time for the Agency. So Amanda’s need for money has come up from time to time. Even in DOA her mother mentioned asking for a raise and how she needed to be more proactive about it. I think that’s why it all ends up coming to a head eventually. Has it ever been discussed as to whether or not she got any alimony or child support from Joe?

    With that being said I don’t know of anyone who has gotten to a point where they have absolutely no food in the house. If anything we always had peanut butter in our house. My mother used to keep a pantry in our basement and would stockpile food as if she were expecting WWIII. We even had a deep freezer that was as large as our refrigerator. My siblings and I are awfully glad we never had to open that can that said “whole chicken”.

    1. hi everybody!!! Just popping in to say a big hello!!! Loving reading all your thoughts!

      I am wondering.. what if YODT was written as filler -to go between Burn Out and MBF?
      Lee and Amanda seem to be much closer and more comfortable, relaxed with each other – does this make sense after DOA? Amanda doesn’t even remember the events of that episode so why would she seem more relaxed and confident with Lee?
      Just an idea I am pondering.. I’ll keep it in mind as we walk through Burn Out.. but I really see this episode as a filler episode – before we get to the meat of Burn Out and MBF.. it can work going between them too – maybe? I don’t know.. but if every episode was intense I wouldn’t enjoy it so much – we need the light to go with the dark.. and for me – episodes like this one make the other episodes better.. and I don’t mind it so much..

      I agree with Valerie, YODT is not a fave- but it has a few great moments 🙂

      BJo’s stats are up next – can’t wait for some dimples BJo!!! again!! some light stuff before we dive back into the intensity!! BJo your stats posts are so much fun.. just a pure celebration of smk! I love it!!!

      BTW- I love the idea of fan fic fixing up plot holes – that sounds like a project for someone!!! Francine heading out for Groceries but getting into trouble? sounds hilarious!!!

      A can of ‘whole chicken’ Valerie?? sounds like the stuff of nightmares! you know… where the can pops open during the night all by itself and sets about killing the whole neighbourhood or something!!! argh!!!!

      Byee guys.. must go heading out for a day of sightseeing here on my holiday! byeeee

  7. Got to write fast, have 2 dozen women and their hubbies (to keep mine company) coming in a few for a jewelry making party. Should be setting up, but much more important to tell y’all how very grateful I am for your delightful and demented sense of humor Iwsod and crew! Otherwise I would have to join the passengers on “Airplane” in setting myself on fire just to get through this episode!
    Oh boy, Burn Out next!!!!!!! Can’t wait! Already *swoon thudding* at the thought! Helmet time 🙂

  8. I still like the idea of Francine actually attempting to get groceries, scoffing at being sent to run stupid little errands, but then running into trouble that ends with yet another batch of groceries getting lost/ruined and Francine barely escaping with her life. Think that running household errands is easy, Francine? Think again! 😀

    Maybe Francine thinks that she can save some time and effort by calling Amanda’s order into the grocery store ahead of time and having it delivered, only there’s a problem and she has to go pick it up. Somehow the baddies have found out about it (you know, like they do 😉 ) and are waiting for “Amanda King”, so Francine also has to fight off the ambush . . . and suddenly Jestress wants to rewrite the episode. 😛

    1. Jule here talking in the third person coz she needs to see Francine get walloped by the whipped cream. Yep, definitely would be a hilarious fan fiction *hint hint*. Anybody write out there, namely Jestress. Hee hee!

    2. Francine knows that household errands can be dangerous — she gets kidnapped while buying groceries in Dead Ringer. Maybe she has PTSD and tries to get out of grocery shopping any way she can.

    Personally I’m glad this episode is over and we are on to Burn Out and then Murder Between Friends my two favorites!!!

  10. Add my vote for one of the lamest and longest chase/rescue scenes.
    For some reason this scene from Austin Powers came to mind
    ~~~~~~~~~~~
    Dr. Evil: Scott, I want you to meet daddy’s nemesis, Austin Powers
    Scott Evil: What? Are you feeding him? Why don’t you just kill him?
    Dr. Evil: I have an even better idea. I’m going to place him in an easily escapable situation involving an overly elaborate and exotic death.
    (aside — this involved angry mutated seabass and laser beams, if memory serves)
    Dr. Evil: All right guard, begin the unnecessarily slow-moving dipping mechanism.
    [guard starts dipping mechanism]
    Dr. Evil: Close the tank!
    Scott Evil: Wait, aren’t you even going to watch them? They could get away!
    Dr. Evil: No no no, I’m going to leave them alone and not actually witness them dying, I’m just gonna assume it all went to plan. What?
    Scott Evil: I have a gun, in my room, you give me five seconds, I’ll get it, I’ll come back down here, BOOM, I’ll blow their brains out!
    Dr. Evil: Scott, you just don’t get it, do ya? You don’t.
  11. I did find the episode a bit lame, not to mention hard to believe. Especially the whole grocery thing, and not having anything in the house to eat. It must have been written by someone who never cooks, if they think people don’t go shopping until they have no food of any kind in the house. And if Lee loaned her money for the first load of groceries, where did the money for the second batch come from? Does it automatically become agency business to help Amanda with her groceries because she lost them while she was kidnapped because of an Agency screw-up? I wonder if the whole groceries plotline was supposed to be a set-up for Murder Between Friends, you know, introducing Amanda’s dire financial situation? Except, it doesn’t really. Because having no food in the house is not the same thing as having no money (Amanda evidently had money to buy food, she just couldn’t get at it). Can I just say, I’m looking forward to the next episode?
  12. I do think the rescue scene is long and the bulldozer does move unbelievable slow. But I like it that we have Amanda and Lee in a helicopter again, only this time it is Lee flying and doing the rescuing and he does some pretty crazy flying with open doors and takes the time to ask Amanda if she is ok.
    I like the tag, not my favorite, but I like the idea of Lee in casual clothing entering Amanda’s kitchen with groceries. I like it that he is becoming well versed in cereal brands. It looks natural, and he doesn’t look out of place there. I also like the idea that he has been carrying heavy loads for Amanda. That seems like a whole new side to Lee, doesn’t it?
  13. Hi everyone! I haven’t commented in forever, but I have enjoyed every single post – especially when it’s how I start my day. 🙂
    You know, I never liked this episode either, but Iwsod, you can make any of the lamer episodes completely enjoyable! Your incredulous comments are completely on point. I actually never really thought about how lame this episode was because I let myself enjoy the concern Lee had for Amanda, the grocery scenes with Lee, and him rescuing Amanda. But, Lord, that “rescue” is one of the worst.
    One thing that I found fun in re-watching this episode (more than once since I’ve owned them) is the fact that one of the baddies (Cavanaugh) played one of the Presidents on 24! Never got to see him slow-drive a bulldozer on that! 🙂
    Rehashing it through your eyes and comments has been absolutely fabulous! This definitely goes down as one of the strangest episodes. At least they end with a sweet tag!
  14. The whole death by huge boulders is a big yawn for me not to mention incredibly lame. She’s tied up and if she’s crushed by a load of rocks how are they going remove evidence that she was tied up? Just plain stupid.
    The best thing about the tag is casual Lee. Looking very relaxed. Does he keep casual clothes at office? Or was that shirt what he was wearing under the jump suit? Enquiring minds wanna know 😉
    The joke about her wanting to remain dead til Monday is a bit flat and the joke about salary….sheesh am I the only one who’s a bit tired of hearing Amanda and her mother complain about not having enough money. They seem to have enough for goofy golf and for dotty to have her hair done at Emilio’s…….
    Gosh I sound a bit grumpy today don’t I? I shall put it down to just not enjoying this lame episode.
