11/14 Season Two, Episode 22: Murder Between Friends-Scarecrow and Mrs King

I guess it’s the next day- Monday.. and we are back in the evil countryside! Winking smile We see Tucker join the two other baddies loading a car and he addresses all three of his hired goons: But I’ve been able to install a whole new security system at the Nabuti mansion. [I thought that was going to take a day- this is the day after Lee said Tucker could replace the security system no??]
2.22 MBF.avi_001771938
Tucker goes over a few details of their plans.. rah rah..basically Tucker’s got pretty much everything covered.. well.. almost everything! Winking smile muahahaha!
2.22 MBF.avi_001782949Isley and Colby get in the truck and drive off leaving Tucker and Walters to sort out a special side job..
Tucker: Now, there’s one last matter: Amanda King. If the cops keep investigating this case, along with the agency sooner or later they’re gonna find out she didn’t kill Jordan. They might start investigating us. That would be unfortunate.
2.22 MBF.avi_001811978
Walters: but ah, if Amanda King ends up dead the cops would probably drop the case.

Tucker: I can just see it… she’s wracked with guilt over Byron Jordan’s murder, and commits suicide!
2.22 MBF.avi_001832999Walters laughs.
Tucker has a laugh too, pats Walters on the back. Ha haa haaa.. yeah these two are a riot! Not!!! Winking smile Sickos!
2.22 MBF.avi_001840006The plan set, they lock up and head off to kill Mrs King! Joe shouldn’t be saying such things!! I swear this casting is ridiculous..

2.22 MBF.avi_001851017Back to Amanda’s that night.. Monday night..

Nabuti is arriving the next day.

Uh oh… Parked outside 2.22 MBF.avi_001858024on Amanda’s street, Tucker and Walters are watching the home.

In the den, Dotty is furiously cycling away on her stationary exercise bike 2.22 MBF.avi_001860026while Amanda dries the dishes in the kitchen. I wonder how many times she had to film that moment! hehehehe.. Hopefully not too many takes or BG would have keeled over!
Amanda finishes and joins Dotty in the family room, taking a seat on the couch-looking stressed and tired.
2.22 MBF.avi_001874040Dotty stops cycling. Again, a very sweet scene here.. for all her interfering and overbearing curiosity Dotty does love her daughter- so lovely!
Dotty: Sweetheart?
Amanda: mm hmm?
Dotty: are you alright?
Amanda: oh yeah! Yeah!
Dotty: you look a little down.
2.22 MBF.avi_001879045
Amanda: no no no. I’m alright.
Dotty: are you thinking about the err…
Dotty gets off the bike and joins Amanda on the couch.
Amanda: well yeah, I’m thinking about it a little bit well huh..
2.22 MBF.avi_001885051
[In the script here Amanda responds that she was thinking about Byron Jordan, and that he was a nice man- I wish they had left it in.. it’s only right that she would acknowledge it was a tragedy he died.. she knew the man and had been attracted to him.. I’m guessing maybe some of you are happy it’s not there!]
Dotty: Everything is gonna be alright.
Dotty reaches and gives Amanda a hug. [looks like it was two for one on the shirts sale!! a blue one…. and a pink one! ]
2.22 MBF.avi_001888054
Amanda: Ohhh Thank you Mother. I needed that!
2.22 MBF.avi_001892058
[Who gives Lee a hug when he needs one huh?]
…Well, I’ll go upstairs and check the boys.
Dotty: no you just stay right here. I’ll check the boys. Besides I want to take a shower.
Dotty points to the bike. Dotty: riding that bike is a lot of hard work! …(She takes Amanda by the arm)…
goodnight precious.
Amanda: Goodnight mother.
2.22 MBF.avi_001905071Dotty: Awhhh
(Dotty reaches to kiss Amanda on the cheek)
I love you.
Amanda smiles and accepts her kiss: I love you too.
Dotty gives Amanda a couple of pats on the knee and then exits.
Off camera Dotty yells:
Ohhh Amanda!!! I’m sorr-
Amanda smiles:
take the garbage out? I’ll do it mother.
Dotty off camera:
thank you.
Amanda takes the garbage out… I guess one advantage of checking for Lee anytime you go out back would be that you would also notice if there were any random baddies lurking around [or is that random garbage lurking?!]
Seems Amanda doesn’t check for Lee- because she is  suddenly grabbed by Tucker – who puts his hand over her mouth.  Amanda tries to scream but can’t. Another man replaces Tucker’s hand over her mouth with a white cloth. Amanda falls into unconsciousness.
2.22 MBF.avi_001937103
Tucker to Walters: good. Check inside, see if you can find her keys.
Walters goes inside, searches the family room and finds her purse, and the keys inside. I really really hate to see Walters in Amanda’s home like that.. the kids upstairs.. Dotty in the shower.. sends shivers down my spine.. sooo awful!!!
2.22 MBF.avi_001950116
He rejoins Tucker outside, who now carries Amanda 2.22 MBF.avi_001974140and puts her in her car.. and they set things up for her to die from Carbon monoxide poisoning..
Evil Joe!! you bad bad man!

Tucker closes the door: Goodnight Mrs King. Have a nice sleep. 2.22 MBF.avi_002006172
The show cuts to a commercial break.

Wow.. Joe King grabs Amanda and shoves her into a car and tries to kill her? Ever since watching season 4 this moment is every kind of wrong!! Sam Melville should never in a million years been allowed to play the role of Joe King in just ELEVEN EPISODES  time!!!!!
Wrong Way Home aired on Dec 2nd 1985 and this episode aired May 6th 1985.. so it was even in the same flippin year.. ‘wrong’ way home alright.. ugh!!!

Hey- interesting to note Burn Out aired April 8th, there was four weeksbreak between  the original airing of Burn Out and this ep! Sorry I’m getting distracted.. while Amanda is stuck in her garage with the engine running?? Very naughty of me!

Lee pulls up at Amanda’s home in his inconspicuous car Winking smile they are dime a dozen in the suburbs I am sure.. ahem.. (yes sarcasm!) He casually looks around, and makes his way down Amanda’s drive way.
2.22 MBF.avi_002051217
Is that the same outfit he YODT.avi_002683097_thumb_thumbhad on in the Tag of You Only Die Twice? Maybe.. He comes to sudden stop in the middle of the driveway- whooo Amanda now has a different house next to her driveway!!
2.22 MBF.avi_002066232
Is this the third house they used as Amanda’s house?
this is how it was in Odds on dead pigeon:
2.17 ODDS ON A DEAD PIGEON.avi_001574307
It’s a bit confusing because they still use transition shots from season 1 that are a different house. 2.22 MBF.avi_002057223Smile [I think kiwismh has decided to take on this project- is that correct kiwismh?? Smile ] Hey you guys who went to see Amanda’s home on the Warner Bros Lot – is this on the Warner’s lot now?? Anyone able to shed some light on this?

Anyway, on hearing the scary music, a strange noise coming from the garage, and seeing Amanda’s neighbour’s home is now completely different- Lee realises something is wrong!! 🙂 Lee rushes to the magical garage and opens the side door to find the garage is full of fumes.2.22 MBF.avi_002081247

Lee struggles inside coughing, and finds Amanda in the driver’s seat.
Lee opens the car door: Amanda!
[Whooo a swoony Amanda cry!!!]
Uh oh.. She doesn’t respond [- eek!!! quick Lee!!!]
He leans in and turns off the car ignition.
2.22 MBF.avi_002088254Lee: Amanda? [he sounds worried]
He starts gathering her up, in preparation for carrying her out.
2.22 MBF.avi_002090256
She starts to rouse a little.. but we don’t see her face- LOL I think this is stunt Amanda until they cut to the outside view! Were they worried BB would drop KJ? Winking smile tee hee..
Lee: hey. Come on. Let me get you out of here.
He lifts silent Amanda, coughs some more and carries Amanda out of the garage. Swoony!
2.22 MBF.avi_002096062
He places coughing Amanda on the ground, leaning her on the garage wall.
2.22 MBF.avi_002100734
You know, Amanda recovered pretty quickly.. came to the moment Lee put her down – probably didn’t want him to put her down.. yeah that must be it!
2.22 MBF.avi_002102068
Mmmmm I like how Lee keeps his hand on her leg there for quite a while when he is talking to her!
Lee: lean up against the wall. Alright now. Take some deep breaths. Come on come one!
2.22 MBF.avi_002103269
Lee motions for Amanda to do what he says. She seems to come to some more and breath deeper.
Lee: is that a little better? [No Lee- hold me.. ahem!] (Amanda nods, and coughs) …I dropped by to see how you, you liked your lawyer! [Lee dropping in.. he’s doing that a lot Winking smile ] …Good thing I did.
2.22 MBF.avi_002105939
[An excellent thing you did Lee! Just love how this hints that Lee is finding excuses to stop by Amanda’s every night Smile ]
2.22 MBF.avi_002108608
(Amanda nods and coughs some more)
Have you got any idea what happened?
2.22 MBF.avi_002113813
Amanda: I don’t know I came outside to take the 2.22 MBF.avi_002118284garbage out, and ah somebody grabbed me from behind and then somebody put a cloth over my face.
(Amanda puts her hands to her temples 2.22 MBF.avi_002123289to rub) I feel like a tonne of bricks on my head.
Lee quietly:
yeah I know I know. He probably tried to knock you out with 2.22 MBF.avi_002127293Chloroform.
Amanda moans a bit.
Lee: it will wear off in a little while…
2.22 MBF.avi_002128294
…Do you have any idea what happened?
[lol at how he waves his hand here – ah you’ll be alright! haa…. why does Lee only get to carry Amanda when she is unconscious and can’t enjoy it huh??!! Cruel world! ]
Amanda: No. What was I doing in the garage.
Lee: Amanda, someone knocked you out. They put you in your car and they turned the motor on.
2.22 MBF.avi_002139305
Amanda: They turned the motor on?
Lee: Yeah…
[Lee seems to be breathing heavily himself here.]
2.22 MBF.avi_002144411
…Why would someone want to make it look like you 2.22 MBF.avi_002149416committed suicide? (Amanda shakes her head) …Unless, someone doesn’t think that the murder charges are gonna stick. 2.22 MBF.avi_002150417(Amanda looks confused) …Yeah! Yeah that’s it! If you suddenly committed suicide that would really point the finger at you.
2.22 MBF.avi_002153420Amanda: Yeah and that would make it look like I was so guilty I couldn’t stand it so I killed myself.
2.22 MBF.avi_002155321Lee: Amanda I think someone’s trying to buy a little time.
Amanda
asks the million
2.22 MBF.avi_002164431dollar question: Do you think it has anything to do with Byron’s security systems?
2.22 MBF.avi_002171438Lee: you can bet on it.
Amanda coughs again.
Lee: come on.
He grabs Amanda by her
2.22 MBF.avi_002174441arms and helps her to her feet.

Why is there a window behind Lee when they are figuring things out here? It looked like the house was to the left of the garage? as you head down the driveway.. ugh.. this stuff gives me a head spin.. anyone able to work all this out? help?! Well, I suspect I’ve discovered a reason for Amanda’s financial troubles getting to be too much – looks like she’s gone and redecorated the whole back part of her house and garage there- a complete overhaul! This garage looks completely different to what we saw in Odds on a Dead Pigeon!
Dead Pigeon:
2.17 ODDS ON A DEAD PIGEON.avi_000840373
Murder Between Friends:
2.22 MBF.avi_002076242

This scene has it all doesn’t it? Worried Lee, carrying Amanda, touching Amanda.. and it is so dimly lit we can hardly see it!! Fire the lighting person please!!!! This is just plain cruel! Winking smile I guess the darkness adds to the drama.. the intrigue.. the danger.. ahem.. sorry I get carried away- it also adds to the intimacy between the two of them as they both- once again- deal with a close SCARECROW_MRS_KING_SEASON2_D1-02(1).avi_000838638call with death- this reminds me a little of the moment in To Catch a Mongoose where Amanda SCARECROW_MRS_KING_SEASON2_D1-02(1).avi_000841641saved Lee from being strangled by the mongoose- though was Lee snappy back! Smile not shot exactly the same way but similarly dark and heavy! [I do love these shots!!] Am I making sense?
LOL I better quit while I’m ahead here!
So how many times has Lee carried Amanda now?? Anyone like to list them? Has Amanda ever been conscious enough to enjoy it?! This might explain how Amanda has been able to guard herself from completely falling for this ‘hunk’ Winking smile -so far! Smile Can’t wait to hear your thoughts! byee for now!!!

  1. Did anyone notice how sad Lee was when Amanda told him that she would be resigning in Murder Between friends? It was really heartbreaking to see Lee’s face. You can see that he just realised he lost his partner and someone he loves working with. However, I notice that Amanda has immediately forgotten IFF and even Lee. There wasn’t any scene where she did think about Lee when she was working for Bryon. I find this part distasteful or maybe the producers did not want to lengthen the show airtime by adding such details. However, it was Lee who came to bail her out when she was in prison really shows how much he cares for her still though she left the agency. I wonder whether Amanda really appreciated Lee’s help at that point of time because she was only thinking about Bryon before she was placed int the garage with the motor running. What do you all think? Do you think she would have thought about Lee? The producers never made any scenes to show that she appreciated Lee’s help.

    1. Hi Hilda! Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this episode with us!

Oh yes.. I agree Lee was very sad to hear Amanda would be leaving!!

this is interesting Hilda – you thought Amanda was not upset enough at having to leave Lee? I’m curious to hear what you make of my comments and others of how we interpreted Amanda’s journey in this episode.
What are you seeing Amanda as thinking and feeling in this episode? about her work, her family, Lee?

I was happy with Amanda’s portrayal in this episode, and didn’t experience it in the same way you did.. maybe I saw Amanda as being regretful and upset too – but she was more understated about it. I think there was distress there to be seen.. well you can read my thoughts if you like, but I also think it makes a difference when comparing Lee’s sadness to Amanda’s here because Amanda chose a new job for the sake of her family and it was her decision. So she was prepared for it.. Even if she preferred to stay at the agency..

But Lee? He was completely unprepared for Amanda leaving – and IMHO for his reaction to hearing this news!! whoooo I totally love this ep! and I enjoyed seeing Amanda step up and make choices about her and her family’s future.. I liked that she displayed independence and was not totally dependant on working with Lee and working for the agency to be happy.

Yes Lee did show he cared for Amanda.. but it was that kind of episode, and Amanda had more than demonstrated before this episode, how much she cared for and valued Lee – so for me I saw this ep as also a time for Lee to step up and demonstate how much he valued Amanda too!

It’s so fascinating how we can see it so differently 🙂

  3. I guess it’s window-pane pattern shirt day in the King household! Doesn’t Lee wear that same shirt Dotty is wearing in another episode? I think it might be in S4 – I’ll have to keep an eye out for it. It looks familiar. I think it is too funny how Dotty exercises with such a big shirt on with the collar up and those bangles on her wrist! And her hair looks really pretty! Not so Amanda’s. Yeah, yeah, I’ll stop complaining about the hair don’t as soon as iwsod stops complaining about the Guess Pass 😆

You know, Amanda’s garage doesn’t look as tidy as I would expect it to. The stuff on the shelves looks too haphazard. Maybe it’s not really her garage. I mean, when Lee comes to find her, the garage is connected on the left. But her house is to the right of the garage. What is going on? Is this what you mean by magical garage, iwsod?

    1. Yes, I noticed that it looks like the garage door is actually on the neighbour’s property. There’s no boundary fence between the two properties (we like fences in NZ – good fences make good neighbours) and the arrangement with the garage side door just looks wrong. Were these scenes shown in mirror image? Weird.

  4. Who needs smelling salts to bring you out of a carbon monoxide, chloroform stupor when you have Lee’s hand on your leg 😉 I have to say. I am NOT a fan of Lee’s all tan outfit combo that he’s got going on!!! Too matchy matchy.
Tucker is also rockin the bad clothing vibe with his two tone jacket. Urgh there is a reason the 80’s was the decade that fashion forgot 😉

I reckon Joe King just had a doppelgänger and that Tucker is it. Clearly they are actually separate people and any conincidence is unintended 😉

I love the scene between Amanda and Dotty although when Dotty asks if she’s alright I do tend to do a mental facepalm and think “durrrr what do you think having been arrested for a murder she didn’t comment and having to wear such hideous cardi’s”.

I agree re Lee’s outfit.. I just didn’t want to focus on it haa! 🙂

Doppelganger makes perfect sense! Everyone has one in smk! 😉

haaa yeah it did seem like Dotty was asking the obvious- I guess it was along the lines of – are you coping okay? oh I agree, the hideous cardy’s would be the straw that broke the camel’s back 😉 tehe

  5. So for the purpose of episode stats, does that count as one dimple? That dimple seems to last the entire time he is talking to Amanda outside of the garage.

    2. Hi LAAL! You speak dimple – 🙂 Love it!

Actually, for the stats, dimple shots are pretty much in a yes/no category. I haven’t been counting them. Most of the time it’s just a good way to get in a hunky shot of Lee when it doesn’t fit into any more official sounding category 😉 I forget who initially suggested the dimple category, it’s back in one of the earliest stats posts – but I think that person suggested that they be when Lee is particularly happy to see Amanda – which is why the dimple appears. I’ve taken a bit of license with it though – hope no one minds!

  6. Hah! Dotty is so funny, pedalling furiously on her bike. 🙂 But so sweet and concerned with Amanda. Awwhhh…

Whooo…!!!… new house next door, new garage, … I blame aliens. The green ones–not the ones like me (whose bright idea was it to call us aliens, anyway?)… Whatever.

Yes, I think it is Stunt Amanda that Lee lifts out of the car… it looks suspiciously like Claudia’s Amandashorthairhelmet aka Perücke. 😀 And, funnily enough, it looks like Sam Melville was trusted to carry KJ into the garage–the hair doesn’t look quite so Perücked-up! 😀 Maybe the issue was more to do with the smoke (i.e., fake carbon monoxide) in the garage when Lee rescues her… or the juggling out of the seat… or something. shrug

Love that Lee felt the need to keep his hand on her leg for so long… until the shot/take changed, but then it’s back on her leg again before he lifts her to her feet. Awwhhh… he really does need that physical reassurance. 🙂 I don’t normally squee, but: squee

    1. The script is different… Just after Lee takes her outside:

Lee: You’re okay… Everything’s going to be all right.
      Amanda: Lee, what happened?

And multiple changes after that. shrug

  9. Maybe instead of dating he has been skulking around the neighborhood and checking out the King house. If I keep at that too long it begins to sound stalkerish.<<

Yes, there are any number of fanfics that describe Lee sitting outside Amanda’s house all night or peeking in her windows just to make sure she’s all right or watching the happy family goings-on. I can buy the dropping by the house occasionally to talk to her, but lurking around – even in the service of “protecting the family” – is just too creepy.

Bad guys are always knocking people out with chloroform. Where do they get the stuff? I’ve never seen it sitting on the shelf at the pharmacy. Is there a bad guy supply house where such things are provided? Too early to order it off the internet!

    1. Really? some fan fics do that? oh dear… I guess the writers wanted to show Lee’s connection to Amanda huh.. but yeah – very creepy!
I feel the same way about the idea of Amanda being in love with Lee the whole of the show -I think it’s unhealthy – and to me is too close to the old ‘I love him so I’ll try and help him to change’ thing -or ‘he treats me badly- oh he just needs more love! or he is so misunderstood! he does it because he is wounded!’ bletch!!! Nope not a fan of this!!
It sounds good on paper but when you consider the wider context- not so healthy!
If you disagree don’t mind me.. I’ve known too many women who have fallen heavily for men who don’t treat them right- I do also know women who have chosen good men to pursue relationships with 🙂 soooo I want to put Amanda in that category! 🙂

  11. What a zany neighbourhood – different house next door, different garage, mysterious window behind Lee. Yes, I’m going to try and make sense of this wee part of Maplewood Drive for Seasons 1 and 2. I’m not sure it will make sense in the end but we will have a bit of fun with it.
Part of the rushed nature of this episode is that we don’t get to see much evidence of Amanda lamenting Byron’s sudden and unexpected loss. We’ve just got to imagine that she would have spent a reasonable amount of time coming to terms with his death. Even though she had only known him briefly they had clearly struck up a comfortable working and personal relationship by the end of the dinner.
It looks here like Lee has made his way around to the back side door of the garage, even though we see him going through a side door in the front of the garage, which, yes, is a completely different garage to the one we have seen in previous episodes. I’m thinking he went in the front door and took Amanda out the side door of the garage to the backyard, where one of the windows of her house might show in the background. Yes, I know that would be taking the long way out of the garage as he would have to walk around to the other side of the car to get out the side door. It also doesn’t help that he clearly went out the same door with her to the front of the garage again. I’m going to have to revisit this part of the episode again to make sense of it but that’s my best shot at it so far.
EvilJoe is sooo much more interesting than JoeJoe. I try to make JoeJoe a bit more interesting by imagining a dark back-story for him, maybe problems with alcohol in his younger years, something, anything to make him not so bland. I always had the impression Joe was 5-6 years older than Amanda, i.e. that he was a mature student when they met in College.
Amanda recovers from her chloroform and carbon monoxide stupor unbelievably quickly but, hey, we’ve only got 46 minutes – in SMKland quick recovery is mandatory! And, maybe another ride in Lee Stetson’s arms brought her back to consciousness pronto – I know it would wake me up pretty darn quick! 😉
Love how Lee and Amanda have always had a physical closeness that comes so naturally to them that they don’t even notice, let alone think it unusual. This has been there since day 1 of their acquaintance. But I think they would both certainly become aware of it if they didn’t have that closeness on a regular basis. To me it is the outward manifestation of the intrinsic connection of mind, heart and soul. This lends weight to my theory that they would have continued to seek each other out, even if Byron had lived – especially Lee who is much more in need of emotional sustenance than Amanda. Agree, Iwsod, Amanda has hugs from her mother and boys but who does Lee have when he needs a hug?
Gotta go, late for work…. again! Well, not really, I’m self-employed, but I’m a tough boss! 😉

I’m looking forward to seeing how you explain Amanda’s home kiwismh- it’s always made my head spin 😉

lol you do sound like a tough boss haaaaa! hey when you are self-employed you’ve got to be disciplined huh! good on you!!

What you say about Joe is very interesting.. got me thinking.. I don’t remember details about his character – and that’s fine I’ll discover them when I get to wrong way home.. but – maybe his blandness explained why he left? Maybe he like Amanda was looking for an adventure..
whoooooo maybe Joe ran into a spy at the train station (let’s say a guy so it’s not about Leaving Amanda for another woman) who asked him to deliver a message for him.. and Joe was sucked into the spy biz.. he saw a life of adventure, a relief from being sooo bland and so he took off? [Still never going to be okay to leave your wife and two kids though IMHO but don’t mind me!] Oh dear – Tangent alert! 😉

  12. Oh, and one other thing. It’s that plot hole about Amanda supposedly killing Byron. If it was supposedly a crime of passion and that Byron was trying to force himself on Amanda, wouldn’t she be able to just claim self-defense? She wouldn’t try to kill herself it that was the case. And then what would be her motive if it wasn’t self-defense. She had just met the man and unless she was like Wilma and didn’t like his attitude she would have no reason to kill him. And no one seems to focus on the fact that the safe was blown. Why would she need to get into the safe if it was a crime of passion? And who just goes home and starts baking bread after they’ve stabbed someone to death? Maybe there wouldn’t be so many plot holes sometimes if the writers just did a little research or they had some good beta readers. Okay, too much time on my hands today. I’m bored and have cabin fever.

    1. Oh yeah Valerie!! preach it sister!!! 🙂
Ridiculous!!!! I think maybe the script editor went off to play goofy golf that day 😉 tee heee.. I hadn’t thought this ‘plot crater’ through- well spotted!!!

I think I put it down to the rush of creating a weekly show.. long hours, many script changes on the fly.. often these things can be down to a script change earlier that was never dealt with.. but regarding the safe? yes ridiculous! Colombo would have spotted that immediately! 🙂 They don’t fit! LOL I’d love to do a walk through Colombo one day.. that was one awesomely written show..
In MBF there doesn’t seem to be much focus on the facts of the case full stop. I guess the episode doesn’t want to focus on the ins and outs of Amanda’s charge – rather on nabuti, tucker and stopping the bad guys.

Oh and by the way Valerie – Loved your volunteering to hug Lee – me too!! 🙂 Indeed not a dirty job haaaa! Love it!!

I hadn’t seen Lee is smiling when he pulls up- I’ll check it out – thanks!

      Byee!

      1. Normally I can deal with the plot holes, I can’t imagine the stress of having to write under time constraints, temperamental actors and directors, continuity issues, etc. As I said, it was a long day today. Still not sure if we’re having school tomorrow or not. Would rather have gotten a call tonight as opposed to bright and early tomorrow.

I loved Columbo. Peter Falk was awesome! Just one more thing…loved when he did that. May have to head to Ned’s and start a fave 80s shows discussion. Although I think Columbo was 70s, still worth chatting about.

Ah yes made even longer because of the not knowing.. frustration!!!

Columbo was 60s right through (on and off) to 2003.. a thread on Neds sounds great! see you there! 😉

  13. So we are having another cold weather day and school has been cancelled. So far we have missed 5 days of school since coming back from Christmas break. We haven’t had a full week of school since break ended. Not that I’m complaining, but lesson planning is getting a bit tricky. The cold has been horrendous and we have had several accidents in the area including a 30 car wreck the other day, no injuries or fatalities fortunately.

Iwsod, I would like to volunteer to be the one to give Lee hugs when he needs one. It’s a dirty job, well not a dirty one, but someone has to do it so I’ve got my hand in the air and like my students who want to answer a question, it’s waving wildly and I’m making pleading sounds.

That whole using Sam Melville for two different roles debacle is just ridiculous. It was hard to watch him as Tucker in the first place. I always thought that if they ever introduced Joe King that it should be him, just because of him and KJ on The Rookies, but the powers that be seemed to have other ideas. It’s amazing how many actors they used again and seemed to go back and forth between good guy and baddie.

I love to rewind the part where Lee shows up at Amanda’s. If you look closely he has a smile on his face as he is pulling up to the house. He seems so happy to be there. And because of these little contrived visits that he makes he seems to have a feel for when all is right and well at the King household. He seems to sense that something is wrong even before he hears the car in the garage. And even hearing it would not necessarily indicate that something is wrong. But he just knows how things are supposed to be and he goes right into rescue mode. He sensed and knew it in OOADP as well. Maybe instead of dating he has been skulking around the neighborhood and checking out the King house. If I keep at that too long it begins to sound stalkerish. Moving on…

I agree that the house is so confusing. That garage just threw me off. I kept thinking that the house was on the wrong side and all the windows mysteriously disappeared. But I can never figure out where the gazebo is either and all those doors in the back leading to the kitchen throw me off as well. But it’s in SMK land so they have houses there that defy the laws of physics.

I also agree that whoever was hired to do lighting in some of the scenes we most want to see, needed to be fired. It happens too often. I can only think of three times when he actually picked her up and carried her, SAAB, OOADP, and this episode. Too bad she’s usually out of it when it happens. Maybe she was aware, but swooning at the same time. Okay, time for some tea and checking to see if we do or don’t have school tomorrow.

    1. So I suppose Valerie you don’t want to hear that we’ve had a beautiful blue sky hot summer day here in New Zealand. Lots of people fishing off the pier by my workplace and kids on their last week of summer holidays diving off the pier and the bridge into the river.
On re-using actors – how about the very talented Daniel Davis coming up in the final ep of S2 Vigilante Mothers as baddie Robert Castille and then in the final ep of S3 ATWAS as good guy made to do bad things Tony Martinet. I have in fact just added these citations to his Wikipedia entry as they were inexplicably missing from his list of TV roles.

      1. Okay, kiwismh, don’t rub it in:-) I’m glad there is awesome weather being enjoyed somewhere. It wouldn’t be so bad if you could go out and do the fun stuff like sledding, building a snowman, or skiing. But it is just way too cold. At this point you’re close to frostbite after 5 minutes. I’ve given up my dream of retiring further north in Michigan. As beautiful as it is it is not going to happen.

I loved Daniel Davis in The Nanny TV show he was so funny. Very versatile actor. Every once in a while I’ll catch another repeat, sometimes it’s a minor character. At least they didn’t do the soap thing and replace an actor with someone else and then claim the character had plastic surgery.

    2. Valerie, you mentioned the one thing that always sticks out to me during this scene, Lee’s demeanor as he pulls up, gets out of his car and saunters over to Amanda’s house. He is a happy man, with a sense of purpose. And even though he is trying to arrive without wanting t be noticed, he looks like he is comfortable being there, even as if he feels he has a right to be there. And then that is justified because Amanda needs rescuing. I do love the way he keeps his hand on her leg. It is a wonderful scene.
And who gives Lee hugs? So true. Who does Lee hug when he needs to communicate joy or sadness or comfort?
I do think that now after Byron’s murder that Lee and Amanda would see each other. Not because Byron is out of the way but because Lee just needed a reason to be able to be in Amanda’s life to initiate the contact outside of work. It could have been anything I guess. But this helping her with the charges and now rescuing her from baddies is exactly the kind of thing that he would be able to work with to find an excuse to be in her life. I think that is why he struts across her street like he did.

      1. You are so right, Morley. Lee does have a bit of swagger going on as he crosses the street. Love that description. It’s funny, I happened to pop in Playing Possum the other day and I forgot that hug of pure joy that Lee gives to Amanda after her comment about jiggling the blue wire on the dishwasher. He’s happy to be alive and happy that Amanda is just who she is. She just pats him on the back, but he goes in for the big hug. He just needed that extra contact.
