12/14 Season Two, Episode 22: Murder Between Friends-Scarecrow and Mrs King

Back to IFF the next day and Lee’s corvette is out front.
Billy off camera: What did happen last night with Jordan?
Wha?? the script says ‘what did happen that night with Jordan’.. but I’m hearing ‘last night’ which is of course a boo boo of Mel Stewart’s I think..
2.22 MBF.avi_002180447

Also, today has to be Tuesday- the day Nabuti arrives.
Amanda answers:
Ah, we just had dinner and and talked.
Billy: About what?
[Is it just me or does Lee seem to not like this question?]
2.22 MBF.avi_002186453
Amanda: I don’t know, really. Not about anything in particular.
2.22 MBF.avi_002188455Billy: Nabuti is scheduled to arrive at the mansion in less than an hour. Now we know that a paid group of assassins are going to try and kill him but.. we still have no idea when, or where.

[You can narrow down the where at least.. it’s wherever Nabuti is! haa]
2.22 MBF.avi_002199466Lee: Well at least we have the new security system installed around the mansion.
Amanda to Lee: New system???
2.22 MBF.avi_002200467Lee: Yeah.
2.22 MBF.avi_002201468
Francine: Yeah somebody obviously murdered Jordan to get access to the security system soooo ah we thought they might have stolen it so we installed
(Amanda shakes her head) the new system with Tucker.
2.22 MBF.avi_002205472Amanda: But they couldn’t possibly have stolen it because he had it all in his memory
(Amanda points to her head with both pointing fingers).
ROFL!!! So funny how every time Jordan keeping the codes in his head is mentioned- we need someone to point for us where the head is!
2.22 MBF.avi_002211478
2.22 MBF.avi_002213480Lee: What?!! Did Jordan tell you if anyone else knew about that access code?
2.22 MBF.avi_002216483Amanda: No! In fact, that’s the reason he memorised them, so no one else would know what they were.
Lee: And Tucker knew that! He set us up!
2.22 MBF.avi_0022204872.22 MBF.avi_002221488
[If this is why Byron was so successful, it means people would have had to know this is how Byron did his work.. Soooo  you’d think the agency would have already known this is how Byron operates.. LOL!! Me 2.22 MBF.avi_002224491confused!]  …He would have had to change the access code to get in to the Nabuti mansion…
2.22 MBF.avi_002226493
…Since he didn’t know Jordan’s code, he put in his own security system.
Billy: And we gave him time to do it.
[Suckers!!]
2.22 MBF.avi_002234501Yippeee… finally they put the pieces together.. should have just asked Amanda about it in the first place. but then that would be too easy! Winking smile I can hear your cries now- of course iwsod! or there wouldn’t have been an episode!!! I know I know!!! Smile tee hee..
2.22 MBF.avi_002226659Whooo by the way- it’s Star Trek day at work again!!! Glad you left the agency Amanda? Winking smile Then again.. Amanda’s ear buttons are back! gah!!! Still I don’t think they can compete with Francine’s Star Trek uniform Fashion police badge2with her matchy matchy ear buttons and bracelet!  So many fashion felonies I’m getting distracted.. focus iwsod!!
2.22 MBF.avi_002235502Amanda: Sir, there’s an emergency operating system that can bypass some of the sensors.

[Oh looky.. here is super clever Amanda offering a solution.. and just like when she use to work at the agency: she’s wearing a GUEST PASS!!! tee hee.. won’t you all be happy when I can stop moaning about that?!]
2.22 MBF.avi_002237504

Lee: Where is it?

Amanda: It’s. Ah..it’s sort of hard to explain but I could show you.

2.22 MBF.avi_002238505Lee motions to Amanda to come with him: Alright come on come on. And stay close to me. Very close. 2.22 MBF.avi_002242509
[Wha?? Oh my word!!!! Gotta rewind that line of dialogue..yep he said it- Veeerrrry close to me. Okay! No problem!! Music to my ears!!!!! I’d be even closer if you carried me! Winking smile  ]
Amanda: Yes I will.  [Lucky girl!!!]
They all exit the office together and the scene ends.

2.22 MBF.avi_002245512This scene in the office –anyone else thinking Lee suddenly has the guyliner on again? I think Lee has fallen off the guyliner wagon!!! Nooooo!!!! Lee Leee!!!! Repeat after me Lee: ‘No thank you makeup person- I am no longer wearing guyliner!’ Ahem.. okay.. just had to let that out.. On the plus side – Amanda has on the awful ear buttons and the hair don’t – but IMHO she looks absolutely lovely in this scene anyway! Guess it’s that side part hey BJo?
2.22 MBF.avi_002218485
Maybe kudos to the  make up person for Amanda’s make up.. I guess! lol.. maybe BB used up most of the eyeliner so KJ had to go light that day haaaaa..

We see a shot of Lee driving the gang along a busy DC street.. Naughty Lee!!! He drives down the middle of two lanes and doesn’t use his indicator to change lanes- what a role model you are Lee Stetson! Not!! Winking smile
2.22 MBF.avi_002253520
On to the special diplomatic mansion where Nabuti is staying for an emergency summit meeting..
2.22 MBF.avi_002259526
Only.. that doesn’t look like an emergency summit 2.22 MBF.avi_002263530meeting.. it looks like a social reception! Having a party before your ‘emergency’ summit meeting Nabuti? Winking smile

2.22 MBF.avi_002275542We find special undiplomatic Augie is talking to Nabuti, they are both wearing medals  -where did Augie get medals from?? Looks like Augie has more.. LOL.. they must be fake Winking smile

How did Augie even get in to the party??? Errr I thought the security was suppose to be tight?!! whahahahaaa!!
[I guess they made an except for the sake of some comic relief! Winking smile ]
Augie to Nabuti: No no no you don’t understand. See 2.22 MBF.avi_002285552this far surpasses mere capital gains. I- I’m talking about.. gross national product here. It’s a major growth industry, you ah you could say that it had legs. It’s.. it’s a sure bet your highness!
[Your Highness? whahahaa!]
2.22 MBF.avi_002288555Nabuti: President Nabuti. What is this magic economic elixir you are talking about?

Augie: Have you ever seen… women box?
2.22 MBF.avi_002296563Nabuti looks horrified: Box?
2.22 MBF.avi_002299566Augie: Yeah. You know, fight. With gloves on. I mean really hit each other. Whoo hooo it draws a crowd! It’s perfect for your country. It’s primitive! 2.22 MBF.avi_002303570
[oh my.. that is outrageous!!! Pretty offensive stuff!! Nabuti is very tolerant here.. I think Augie needs a kick up the pants for that remark- ignoramus! Do you think that ‘joke’ would pass for acceptable on a show today?]
2.22 MBF.avi_002307574Nabuti: No I don’t think that you quite understand.
Augie: Nope, nothing like a national pastime to unite your people…

(Augie pulls some papers out of his pocket)
see I have these brochures right…
[Brochures on women boxing? oh my!! Can you imagine what Augie would do if he saw Mancine in action?!!!]
…You can do a franchise in every city…2.22 MBF.avi_002315582

[I think Nabuti has lost his patience with Augie, now finding him only mildly amusing.]
the economic potential is unlimited!

Time for the baddies to make their move on this mansion! They should have just hired Augie to bore Nabuti to death… but.. I guess this way is more exciting Winking smile Colby the baddie jumps a fence, followed by Isley, Walters and Tucker. They congregate, then Tucker motions to Isley and Colby to move closer.
2.22 MBF.avi_002352619
Love how Isley and Colby approach the house.. huddled over in the middle of the lawn like that – yeah.. that doesn’t look suspicious at all!! 😉  They totally blend!
2.22 MBF.avi_002360627
Yeah.… that guard there? He wouldn’t spot that.. no need to maybe go around the outside, just cut across the middle of the lawn! whahahaahaaaa!

2.22 MBF.avi_002367634LOL we are reminded that the fab four are on their way with a shot of the Corvette driving along city street. Hurry! [I think we’ve seen this shot of Lee driving past the capitol a few times now!]
Wait a minute.. So ummm.. there is like all this security at the mansion right? That ahh you know..like.. work for the agency right?? I mean the men on the ground, they wouldn’t be from Jordan securities right? Otherwise, why do the baddies need to sneak in? and kill one of them? Tucker would have just told them to go or something..

Anyway- if the agency had guards there- why didn’t Lee or someone/ anyone??? gee maybe the boss- Billy-  phone ahead and tell the guys guarding Nabuti to get him out of there??? Or at least lock him in the strobe lit bedroom? Winking smile [and put on some BeeGees]
It looks to me like they all just got in Lee’s car (keeping Amanda-very close 😉 ) and notified no one..  Hilarious!!

Oh wait! Here is another way to give Amanda a raise! All those other agents at the agency? we don’t really need them! Lee, Amanda, Francine and Billy can pretty much deal with anything without the rest of the agency! whwhahaahaa.. Winking smile tee hee.. oopsie sorry I’m getting subtracted distracted.. Winking smile
2.22 MBF.avi_002370637Back at the mansion, Tucker and Walters are ready and waiting to make their move. They can see Isley and Colby taking out the guard 2.22 MBF.avi_002380647in the garden.
Tucker to Walters: Now, once we get inside I’ll reset the security sensors to my own code. That way the 2.22 MBF.avi_002398665agency people won’t be able to get in without setting off the alarms. [eh?! I thought he did that yesterday! I guess he reset everything then gave the codes to the agency? so he and agency had them? So now he will change them on the agency? LOL it doesn’t really make sense. what if the agency had changed the codes on him?!  Okay *iwsod gives a handwave!*]
2.22 MBF.avi_002405672Walters: Yeah good! I like it workin for us!
Tucker and Walters laugh at how clever they are.
Tucker: Yeah come on.
They begin to move closer to the mansion.

2.22 MBF.avi_002410677Lee’s Corvette is still on it’s way.. Faster!! faster!!! come on!!!!!!!

At the mansion, Isley uses a rope to climb the mansion wall, while a guard aims to shoot him, Colby takes out the guard in time. Tucker and Walters sneak in carrying machine guns and enter the main reception room yelling to get down..lots of chaos.. rah rah..
Tucker waves his gun around. All the guests have their hands in the air. Except Nabuti who stands still.
2.22 MBF.avi_002454721

Tucker yells: Quiet! (then to Nabuti) We send you greetings from your great country.
2.22 MBF.avi_002457724
Nabuti: There will be no negotiations. You will just have to kill me.
2.22 MBF.avi_002460727Tucker: We may get around to that. First, we’re gonna make you a TV star.

Okay I’m going to finish up here for the moment.. with the fab four about to arrive at the mansion and save the day! Any thoughts you’d like to share? Byeee for now!

  1. One last comment on this – just because there aren’t enough plot holes already. I think we all assume the Agency is in Georgetown, right? Didn’t that come out in the tag of TFT? And Georgetown is in the NW quadrant. And most, if not all, embassy type spreads like this one are also in the NW quadrant of DC. I know all of them might not be, but I would be willing to bet there aren’t any south or east of the US Capitol that Lee drives by here. So why on earth does Lee start in the NW, drive down to the SE only to go back up to the NW again? Grrrr. Even if this party was in Virginia it makes no sense for Lee to drive by the Capitol – especially if he was in a hurry! Ok, I’ll stop ranting now.

  2. Ahh, I’m not sure about the guyliner on Lee, iwsod. Maybe it’s because Francine’s got enough on her eyes to make Lee’s look practically invisible if he’s wearing any 😉

And yes, the slight side part in Amanda’s hair makes a big difference. Plus it’s a bit fluffier on the top – that helps too. It was sort of flat on the top in the CO poisoning scene. Now just need to get rid of those ear buttons and that sweater rug she’s wearing.

Maybe Lee got Auggie into the party because of his help in DAgent? Or because he wants to keep Augie interested in being his snitch? And even though he wasn’t particularly helpful on this case, he was helpful in DOA wasn’t he?

I do not think Augie’s joke would pass in today’s PC world. Only if it were in a movie about a certain period in time and in the right context to show historical accuracy of ignorance or attitude or something like that.

ROFL – Augie and Mancine…now there’s a woman I think even Augie would say no to!

    They totally blend!

Is it just me or does that remind anyone of Marisa Tomei’s line in My Cousin Vinny to Joe Pesci, “Yeah, you blend.” ROFL – LOVE that movie!!

  3. Lovely to see Francine channelling her inner Picard LMAO she was clearly light years ahead of her time 😉
Amanda and her gestures are funny. Maybe she was pointing to her noggin so that viewers didn’t think Jordon had hidden his codes in the toilet aka the Head LOL
It seems rather ridiculous that Tucker and his men who are responsible for the security are sneaking into the house and grounds. Plot holes schmot holes.

    1. Ohhh Jenbo you are on a roll tonight! I’d say Francine’s outfit is out of this world!

I guess gestures make more interesting viewing for the viewer when there is lots of dialogue and sitting around. Hmm maybe that explains the over the top outfits on Francine too..
Yes!!! I think this one’s a plot crater!

  4. Yup, the four of them in Billy’s office. That is how it should be, isn’t it? Billy and Lee know it now. Got to make it permanent.
Got to have Amanda close, very close, for the Agencies sake and Lee’s. I bet at some level it was a relief for Lee to vocalize those words. I wonder how Amanda felt deep down hearing them?

And love how you all handle those plot holes. Too funny. 😀

  5. I think Augie’s “primitive” comment is supposed to be cringeworthy. President Nabuti is obviously a cultured, courteous and well-educated man; he’s a president, not a ruler, which brings up connotations of progressiveness and democracy. This contrasts with Augie crashing the party, not bothering to get Nabuti’s title right, shoving his way forward to get his tasteless sales pitch out, and insulting his intended customer.

Ahhh I didn’t make myself clear me thinks.. my fault- I’ll just clarify:
I also was thinking he was intentionally portrayed as cringeworthy – it’s coming through loud and clear
      – I was wondering if these days people would dare to make the same joke- in order to portray someone as cringeworthy..
I wondered if by standards today this may not be PG.. or just such a culturally unacceptable thing to say.
I just like to ponder the way the culture has changed since the 80s
‘Your highness’ was hilarious! and all things considered I think Nabuti coped quite well with Augie! poor Augie!!

Amanda/KJ does a lot of pointing and hand slicing… (all the time, not just here)

    Mmmmmm… very close to Lee… 🙂

Naughty Lee!!! He drives down the middle of two lanes
That shot always make me think of the tear along the dotted line joke… :p

Hey–is that Blue Leader’s limo pulling up behind the limo parked in the driveway? 😀

Auggie’s wearing little medals… possibly given to him by the Russians. 😉 (They always seem to have the teeny-tiny medals on.)

Yes–Auggie is offensive! But he somehow manages to be a little bit amusing and endearing–most of the time (not here)–too…

Love the group shot of the baddies… I think maybe they were posing for the cover of the Baddies R Us catalogue.

Hmmm… in the shot of Corvette that follows Walters and Tucker talking together, it appears that Lee is alone in the car–the seat beside him is empty… so much for Amanda staying close! :p (And don’t tell the baddies, but it looks like Stunt Lee driving…)

Seriously–how long does it take to aim and shoot someone? Isley takes all day to climb up the wall and the agent takes his sweet-8rse time about shooting him. Is he stupid enough to believe that Isley is acting alone? Sheesh. He maybe deserved to be “relieved of duty”… (but not terminally)… 😦 I know… zip it, KC. 😀

    Like

    1. Oohhh… I just figured it out. They sent Stunt Lee ahead in the Corvette as a red herring to divert the baddies’ attention. Meanwhile, Lee, Amanda, Billy and Francine are road-tripping it to the mansion in Amanda’s station wagon. Francine is aghast at being stuck in the wagon… in the back seat, no less. Lee is driving–of course–and Billy is sitting in the back with Francine, looking stunned at her Star Trek outfit. Amanda is in the front passenger seat, staying close to Lee by having put up the armrests… but thinking that she could have stayed closer if they were in the ‘Vette.
      Hmmm…

      1. haaa love it KC!! It’s all so silly you’ve just gotta have fun with it! haaaa!! too funny!

Oh hey, does the corvette only seat two people? It’s been so long since I saw season 3 and 4 I don’t know!

        Like

        1. Absolutely 2 seats, although you might be able to stow a small kid or two in the back compartment. Not at all suitable for family motoring. It is definitely a car that suits a super handsome bachelor spy gadding about the nation’s capital. The whole message of a Corvette is sophisticated manly style and virility.
Whhh—-hooooo – Is it suddenly hot in here or is it just me 😉

I better bite my tongue here and let you guys enjoy the vette 🙂

Thanks for clearing that one up. The Fab four racing to the mansion in Lee’s vette? hilarious!

            Like

            1. IMHO–regarding your reservations about the Corvette–I actually think that given Lee’s age, sophistication, etc, it was an appropriate car. If he’d been in his, I dunno, 50’s, say, it could be “trying too much”/”crisis car”/”extension”. 😀 I think there were other cars that might’ve been too “wanna-be”–like a Camaro… or too “muscley” like a classic Mustang (oohhh… think Eleanor from Gone in 60 Seconds, or Steve McQueen’s car from Bullitt–nice cars, but wouldn’t suit the dashing super spy).
Just my 2 cents… :p Vehicle Patrol is moving on…

              Liked by 1 person

              1. Yes you are right KC.. I’ve just gotta think context! and that the car was suppose to say: studly man.
                Don’t mind me..really!

99% of the time I really don’t even notice the car – I’m much more interested in it’s driver 😉 and again – I know most fans love it so don’t want to be raining on anyone’s enjoyment of the much loved vette 🙂

I don’t even know what I would have had Lee drive instead. though heck. a car that seats more than 2 people is probably handy for the spy.. or did Lee just assume Billy and Francine would swoop in and pick up the bad guys once he’d caught them?! ha! 😉

Vehicle Patrol is moving on? cool! err Vehicle patrol is cruising along! down the freeway?? or a suburban street? no pressure!! Just hope you are having fun with them! 🙂

I was wondering about setting up a poll for “if-he-didn’t-have-the-Corvette-what-would-he-drive”…???… (A sort of “special episode” of Vehicle Patrol… LOL.)

                2. OMG! How could you not notice the Corvette? I’ve wanted one ever since first hearing Prince’s Little Red Corvette a year or two before it appeared on SMK in NZ. When Lee’s Porsche got totalled and he got the Corvette I thought I had died and gone to heaven – the perfect man in the perfect car.
I’ve never been able to afford a Corvette (they tend to be a bit pricey here in NZ). Totally impractical car but I still want one.
Makes me think Lee has a few penny’s stashed away if he could afford one – he must’ve got some inheritance from his parents’ estate Okay, some of it would have gone towards his schooling, etc, but there should be some left over for him to have bought this expensive vehicle. Maybe he could’ve funded Amanda’s pay increase but of course that would be awkward. Also, the Agency seems to be quite generous with the expenses it covers, so aside from basic living costs, most of his travel, clothing and other expenses would be paid for, so he must have saved a few pennies over the years.
Iwsod, a 2 seater is the perfect car for an intelligence operative. I would want to minimise the opportunity for anyone to hide or sit behind me out of direct sight if I was in that business. The only problem with it for his work is it is a bit too distinctive for some situations. A more run-of-the-mill car would blend in better and not be so obvious to the baddies.

                    1. I rest my case for the 2 seater. (1) The next baddy may not have bendy knife, and (2) What a hassle to have to check your back seat before you get in the car – so much better just not to have a back seat… and way cooler of course :-O

I can’t remember details but he’s encouraging Billy to take a risk and says that when you have such and such a hand, you have to go all in or something like that. Billy asks him what happened last time he had that hand and he says, “how do you think I paid for my car?”

      2. I was still laughing about this KC late last night and it struck me.. now I’ve finally gotten my head around the fact that Lee’s car only has two seats.. here’s what I think happened: I think Lee and Amanda went in the vette (with Amanda staying very very close) and Francine grabbed Billy in the office and cried ‘Beam me up Scotty!’ -after which Scotty sent them to the mansion and they met Lee and Amanda there.. heck – there has to be a reason for that outfit other than comic relief! 😉
Ahhh smk.. I love this about the show! 🙂 and I love that we don’t take it so seriously we can’t laugh at it err with it! 🙂

  7. Good question about how Augie got into this party. I’ve been wondering about that myself. What is that he’s wearing around his neck, too?

    1. Hi Jestress – I captured a picture of the medal around his neck – it’s coming up in the next post I think 🙂

you think the medals are fake? so funny that Augie got into this party that was super secure haaaaa!

    2. Augie is a bit of a con-man so I think we are supposed to assume that he managed to get into the party with a fake pass, and the suit and medals helped his “cover”. I think we’ve already seen how good the security at this party is with the complete lack of attention to “snips” sneaking in plain sight.

      1. Of course, the guy who’s now in charge of the security company is corrupt, so I suppose we shouldn’t expect too much of them, lol.

  8. Maybe all those Star Trek people a hundred years in the future (or however many it is) were looking back through old Agency files and found a photo of President Nabuti with Francine. Maybe they got their uniform idea from this very outfit of Francine’s. Maybe she’s actually a trendsetter!

  9. So much fun I’m missing!! I can’t wait to get back on the blog. I was behind to begin with and then the Snow and Ice-mageddon hit Atlanta and it’s been an awful past couple of days. It’s been as bad they’ve been reporting on the news!

    1. Take it slow and easy and be careful BJo. This has been an epically bad winter and we still have February and March to go. Be safe and stay warm!!

      1. Thanks, Valerie – you too! I hope things get better for you soon. All the snow and ice will be gone down here in the next day or so.

  10. How did they fit 4 adults into the Corvette? Lee wasn’t kidding when he said he wanted to keep Amanda “very close”. She must be sitting on his lap – say no more kiwismh 😉 We just must assume that Billy and Francine are travelling behind – way, way, way behind because Lee is literally racing to the scene – in the stock standard brown or beige Agency sedan.

Augie’s not very PC but It’s perfect for your country. It’s primitive! is exactly the sort of thing someone like Augie would say. Yes, it might be offensive (it would have been offensive then, definitely offensive in 2014!) but it’s absolutely the sort of thing Augie would say.

Love the baddies sneaking in plain sight across a huge expanse of lawn. Reminds me of a saying – “A blind man in New Jersey would’ve seen them coming!” But they are clearly invisible to the guards and anyone who happens to be looking any of the numerous windows in that mansion. Ridiculous. Ugh, just move on kiwismh, it will never make any sense. This episode is already Swiss cheese as far as plot holes are concerned, why not have baddies sneaking in plain sight too. Perhaps some fine dark chocolate will help me get past this… Wanders off to raid pantry

  11. Just wanted to say that the actor who plays Nabuti, James Avery, just passed away on New Year’s Eve. He played the uncle on the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, at least that was probably his most well-known role. So he did become a TV star. He looks so young here.

    Augie, Augie, Augie….

Francine looks like a cross between Star Trek and that V movie.

    1. I thought he looked familiar and was about to google. You’ve saved me the job. Loved him as Uncle Phil, so sad he passed 😦
