13/18 Season Three, Episode 03 : Over the Limit- Scarecrow and Mrs King (Blog order-Episode 02)

On to Transoceanic and it’s Operation Amanda Flirt..
3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_001890890
Amanda pulls up to the security gate and tries to talk the security guard into telling her 3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_001908108whose car it is.. so she can look him up and find her one true love! Just like in the Movie ‘Camille’ – 3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_001904904anyone seen it? Bet it’s a Warner Bros film!
3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_001918918So funny watching Amanda try and flirt with Lee listening in!!

I won’t transcribe it.. criminal I know! but.. I’m time poor! If someone else wants to- feel free! Although LOL I am assuming BJo would transcribe this ramble in her stats post when she gets there! 🙂
Amanda does her 3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_001934534lines.. and gets the info. hooray for Amanda!! The car is signed in under the president O’Keefe’s name.. and uh oh.. Tarzan comes along right at that moment and says Amanda must come with him.
3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_0019493493.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_001950550[Oh well that’s not Amanda’s fault! Is it just me or did anyone else wonder why Amanda didn’t just floor it in reverse and get out of there?! Oh 3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_001948948well if she had.. we wouldn’t have the next scene huh!]
uh oh.. Lee what are you going to do?!!
3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_001951751[love the collar up on your vinyl jacket Lee!!! Yes.. I sorry I still think it’s vinyl!]
Sooo funny- Love Amanda’s delivery of her final line to the security guard.
Security guard: good luck ma’am, maybe it will be just like in that movie!
3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_001964964Amanda: Ohhhh I hope not!…
3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_001965765
3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_001968968 3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_001968168… she dies!

3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_001970570
(Love how she says this while smiling through her teeth!)
Lee follows Amanda in, clinging to the side of a truck.. is it just me or does he look really funny squatting on the side of the truck like that?!!  3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_001986186Definitely calls for a meme!!! some wise crack about the vette!!! 😉 anyone?? feel free to use my pic!
Amanda is shown into O’Keefe’s office.
3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_001997397
Uh oh.. check out all that silver and ivory- this is one mean refined baddie!!!  [what, no baddie phone?!] Love the boat- keeping the fishing theme going!
3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_002001801Amanda is flying by the seat of her pants.. And being awfully polite Smile Go Amanda!!
Amanda: what a lovely office!
3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_001999399O’Keefe: who the hell are you?
Amanda: Oh.. ahh..
3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_002005805
…Mr O’Keefe? I’m looking for a job and you see I didn’t want to go through personnel sheesh!..
3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_002009409
…I know I probably shouldn’t but I thought I’d just bring my resume
(uh oh.. where is it Amanda?!) myself to you and deliver it to you.. 3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_002012612…except I left the car without my purse and …I didn’t have it with me and I –
At this, Lee bursts into the office. 3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_002019419
Hmm would have been interesting to see how O’Keefe responded to Amanda’s ramble! He could have offered her a job! Winking smile
Lee to Amanda: you tell him yet?!!
3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_002022622Amanda doesn’t miss a beat: no.
Lee: ohhh.. [cool I guess this is Lee’s way of checking with Amanda- have you told him anything??!!]
Lee turns to O’Keefe : We’re friends of Jack Richards… 3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_002024624
(oh? his first name was Jack was it?!)
Amanda jumps in here very quickly: Ah yes we’re partners.
Lee: yeah..
3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_002026626
.. you know him as Kurt Magnusson.
3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_002028628O’Keefe sends his secretary away..
3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_002031831As she leaves, Lee and Amanda share some serious eye talk here! Smile
3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_002033033
Once the secretary has left, Amanda quickly moves to stand part way behind Lee – awh!!! Smile I’m sure Lee kinda likes that Smile what do you think?
3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_002036236Lee continues: … and err we know
3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_002042642
… everything!
Amanda: that’s right!
[she’s too funny here! Isn’t it great to see the two of them play off each other ad-lib like that??  Interesting – in front of a baddie they are partners.. in front of others.. she runs Lee’s errands.. ]
3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_002043843Lee: We’re willing to forget for 100 grand.
[Is it just me or, if I ignore the awful jacket- does Lee look extremely gorgeous, tanned and well.. swoony here???!!!!]
Amanda quietly adds: 100 grand.
3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_002045045[It’s very cute how Amanda just keeps repeating what Lee says…I’ve missed moments like these.. remember?: ‘me and the chick here want some privacy!’ ‘yeah!’ ROFL!! I haven’t seen one of these exchanges for a while now! What was the episode? Smile just check out BJo’s avatar!! Smile  ]
Lee: … unless you’re willing for everyone to know that you blew up Hamilton Rawlings.
Amanda: Mmm MMmm! (as in yeah!)
O’Keefe stands up: Get out of here.
3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_002048648Lee pulls out a notepad : In a minute…3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_002049049
(whooo so take charge and confident! Smile )
…now you,…
(We cut to a close up of Lee writing a phone number in his note book.)
3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_002056656[Whoooo is this Lee’s home phone number? nah.. he probably would give an agency one I guess.. are these Lee’s hands??!!! hand experts? 555-2715 who’s gonna give Lee a call??!!!! ]
(Lee hands him the slip of paper with his number on it)
3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_002057857…phone by midnight tonight. Otherwise we’ll feed you to a lot of hungry reporters.
3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_002060260[whoooo I like it!!! a bit of a fishing pun no?!]

3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_002065065O’Keefe is silent in response.. just scowling at them as a security guard comes to lead Lee and Amanda away..
Amanda nods at O’Keefe once again repeating Lee’s instructions: Midnight.
3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_002066666Amanda nods a lot in agreement.. so funny her delivery here.. I love funny Amanda! I don’t know how BB doesn’t crack up laughing!
Amanda’s
so serious haaaa.. and then she turns and says so politely: Goodbye!
3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_002069469
Lee chuckles at the security guard and tells him they were just leaving – ie. you don’t need to physically make sure I get out of here Smile
Amanda gives one last look at O’Keefe: Thank you Sir.
3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_002070670And with that.. they leave O’Keefe’s office.. and O’Keefe looking very serious..

Tarzan re-joins him excitedly confirming Lee is 3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_002084284the guy he sprayed with the extinguisher.
Muahahahaa O’Keefe wonders how to ‘get them out of our way’  – I 3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_002087087don’t think he’s gonna pay Winking smile
And the scene finishes there..

On to Lee’s apartment..whooo we see a moving exterior of his apartment block- I wonder which apartment he lives in today? Winking smile
3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_002097497Drat.. no car with the hatchback up!
[but it looks like fall/autumn again?!]

We hear Amanda all excited: Ohhh!!! I think we’ve gone em! I think  we really do!!! We really got him on the hook, boy!!! [rofl.. another fishing pun, fabulous! I don’t think I noticed that one before!! It must have previously gotten through the net.. get it?? see what I just did? lame I know 😉 ]
3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_002100700
We cut to Lee and Amanda exiting the elevator
Lee is more cautious in his excitement:
I don’t know. Do we?
3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_002101501Amanda smiles: Oh yeah!!!!
Lee: ‘cause I was bluffing like crazy.
3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_002102702LOL.. Lee seems to be looking to Amanda here for encouragement! Or is it just me who thinks this?
3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_002103903Amanda: Oh yeah!!! but you were good…
3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_002104704
…You were really really good…
3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_002105905
…How did you learn how to do that?
[wow.. so gushing.. it’s been a while since we heard this- It feels different to me here than previous gushing compliments from Amanda.. what do you think?
Here the vibe is- I want to do that!! I want to learn from you to be a better pro!!! Whereas previous gushing – gosh anyone remember the last time??- has felt like more- wow you are really amazing!!! and a bit hero worship like- here her praise is more curious.]
3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_002107507
[What do you think of Lee’s reaction?? He doesn’t get bashful.. maybe he is more comfortable now the gushing is no longer hero worship?? He seems preoccupied with whether the case is going well, he’s not happy about it, though I think he is encouraged by Amanda all the same.]
3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_002108708
Lee responds to Amanda’s question: Ohh I don’t know….
3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_002109109
…It sort of comes out naturally.
3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_002110243Lee breaks into a big smile here..
[I find this comment of Lee’s very very curious – He said he was bluffing, and it comes out naturally – is this applicable to other area’s of Lee’s life too?? I think it might be. I’ve never noticed this line before! Lee bluffs his way through a lot of things.. and interesting that he confesses this to Amanda no?? Previously Lee would have said thanks – it’s a skill or it’s training.. he’s a professional.. it’s what he does! – IMHO he certainly never would have admitted he just bluffs!!! what do you all make of this?? I’ve never really thought about this line of his before – I’ve always been so focused on Amanda’s gushing.. and the upcoming introduction of you know who!!! I think it overshadows everything- sadly – and so we miss little gems like this!!! ]
Okay moving on.. sorry!
Amanda continues with her unabated praise – any earlier distance between them seems to have been forgotten.
Amanda: Oh it was good!…
3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_002110710
…it was really good
.
Lee points at Amanda: you were pretty good yourself.
3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_002111511
[wha???!!!! Did I just hear that correctly?? wow!!! Lee did just give a bit didn’t he!!! He is certainly changing!!!! ]
3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_002112512Amanda: Oh well.. I wasn’t as good as-
3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_002112712they talk over each other here a little..
Lee holds his hand up: no Amanda-
3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_002113513Amanda: -as you
Lee: take it from me-
Amanda: noooo you were better!!!
3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_002114714[Oh my goodness.. I can’t believe my ears!!!! When I think back to Brunettes are In?? and the fight in the hallway?? Amanda trying to assert that she knew some things and Lee knew different things?? wow!!!! Look how far these two have come!! There is no doubt Amanda is nowhere near the experienced agent Lee is – but he is no longer unable to see what she contributes – Hoooooo flippin Rayyy!!! ]
Lee and Amanda are so absorbed in each other as they walk down the hall and arrive at Lee’s front door, they don’t even notice the door is open!!! whahahaa!!!
3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_002115915Lee: hey from my experience –
Amanda: ohhh!!!
Lee: you were take it from my experience-

3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_002117917Amanda: Okay I was pretty good… 3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_002118318
…Ohhhhhh!!!!
[Love the noise Amanda makes here – when she realises Lee’s apartment door is open.. not unlocked – but actually open. btw- I note Lee lives in Apartment 303 now.. so is that the third floor??!!! HERE is a DOA delirious on arrival post where I’ve discussed Lee’s apartment previously.. the external shots, the apartment number etc. There is so much that I haven’t covered – it could be really fun for someone to put it all together into one post – if anyone is interested?? but.. anyway. here Lee is Apartment 303 and  in DOA it was 305 – I think! Always open to being corrected!!! but I note Lee has gotten rid of the plant that was standing next to his front door entrance in DOA! The hallway has been painted a totally different colour and the hallway light fittings have been changed so it doesn’t look like people have devil horns! Heck, maybe Lee has moved floors again! got to keep the baddies on their toes!]
3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_002118718
Back to the episode.. sorry! I digress!!!
Lee and Amanda are on high alert!!! Lee’s apartment door is ajar!!!
3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_002121121
Lee holds his hand up to Amanda to be quiet.. they listen but don’t hear anything..
Then, Lee pulls out his gun.. and slowly, quietly enters his apartment – my my.. the entrance inside the apartment has turned into a jungle! Winking smile
3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_002129529Lee enters the silent apartment…
3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_002130730
He doesn’t hear anything, but sees a table with candles on it..
3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_002133933
Hmm..3.03 OVER THE LIMIT.avi_002134734
and.. with that I shall pause here for now.  Yep I’m going to stop here before the big introduction.. this post is long enough already and I think it is good to stop here and discuss Lee and Amanda’s conversation in the hallway – Sooooo I encourage you all to hang in there!!!!  I can’t wait to hear what you all make of it!!!!

Where do you see Lee and Amanda here now?? What do you make of their interaction in the hallway?
I find they are so comfortable and happy in each other’s company it’s sweet.. and I love that they are so wrapped up in each other- they don’t even notice Lee’s door!!!

Anyone else find Amanda in O’Keefe’s office hilarious??!!!! and Lee particularly swoony and in command??!! hoo haaa..
Can’t wait to hear your thoughts!!!
Okay well byee for now.

  1. That shot of Lee on the truck is hilarious!

And I love that photo of him with his earpiece — my sexy Secret Service Agent!

  2. And now for something completely random: How much money were Amanda and Lee asking for in the German dub? 100 Dollars. Yes, you read that correctly.Even in 1988, that sounded like a strange sum to me.

    1. That sounds like Dr. Evil in the Austin Powers movies waking up from being frozen for decades and trying to hold the world hostage for one mee-lee-yon dollars

  3. Ok, I’ll (very belatedly) add some Camille comments. The reference to it is interesting to think about.

DH and I watched Camille recently because of this episode and our kids had just watched “Annie”. There are many versions of the story, but the movie with Greta Garbo is probably most famous. It’s based on a book by Alexandre Dumas (Count of Monte Cristo, etc.) It’s about a French courtesan who falls in love with a man who loves her back. Her main source of income doesn’t love her at all, but this guy really does. He wants to protect her and take her away to the country for her health. They go away together and plan to marry, but eventually, she realizes that his career can’t progress if he’s married to a former courtesan. She tells him that she doesn’t love him any more, leaves him, and goes back to her former man. She sacrifices her health and happiness in order to do what she thinks is best for him. They are reunited on her death bed. (It’s so sad! but worth watching)

Anyway, it’s interesting to think about earlier comments that Lee doesn’t think he’s good enough for Amanda, can’t live the life she has, etc. Almost as though he is Camille, not allowing himself to pursue Amanda because he’s not good enough. Or maybe Amanda is thinking that if she allows herself to fall in love with Lee, things won’t work out in the end because of his career. It would be interesting to know what the writers were thinking when they added this.

  4. LOL! Yes, OTL stats…when I get there. When will that be???

I never really liked this scene with Amanda and the security guard. It just felt weird. I don’t know why. And she’s not really flirting with him either. She just seems to be acting a little dopey and desperate in the hopes that he will take pity on her and give her some information. I wonder how Francine would have handled it. But at the end of the day, Amanda gets the job done, so that’s what matters!

Is vinyl the same as plastic? Hahaha – I’m with you on that one. Not a rich look if you ask me.

Lee hanging on to that truck? He looks uncomfortable. Those white sneakers are lurvely…. No baddie phone for O’Keefe, but he has his own Tibetan ram’s horn! Hey, where’s his tea? Maybe that’s only the foreign baddies’ drink of choice.

Hahaha! What a difference between this and the first time Lee burst in on a job “interview” of Amanda’s. I bet Amanda is definitely very happy to see Lee here! Who is worse, O’Keefe or Warren Davenport?

Yes, I think Lee does like that Amanda moves behind him 😉 Just a layer of protection for her.

You are right, iwsod…about that gorgeously tanned, swoony goodness we see…but only IF we ignore that plastic jacket.
Amanda does the repeat of Lee thing in Car Wars too – did Morley beat me to that connection? Yup, cherry! I DO think those are Lee’s hands…but will have to wait for future confirmation in the stats post.

Why does Amanda use the sir with her “Thank you, Sir.” Ugh. I know she’s very respectful to everyone, her superiors, her elders, etc. But to the baddies? She knows he’s a baddie, I wish she had just left it at “Thank you!” As in thank you, you scumball!

I don’t know if I see Lee looking for encouragement from Amanda about his performance at O’Keefe’s so much so as he’s wanted her to tell him how good he was. LOL – taken out of context that could be, um, not PG rated! I agree though, it sounds like Amanda really wishes she could just make up stuff like that and bluff her way through. The funny thing is, I think she already can do that! She’s just not as confident as Lee. Hahaha! So Lee is a natural bluffer…hmmm, wonder what else he’s been bluffing about. That girlfriend he doesn’t have, perhaps??? Yes, this entire back and forth with the compliments is very nice. Lee is really appreciating Amanda and thinking of her as a real partner, albeit junior I’m sure, but not just a housewife who is window dressing and can’t do or think for herself. Very nice!!

Loving the stalking, gun-toting Lee pic, iwsod!! I don’t even see his plastic jacket! Boy does he look confused when he sees his table! I’m impressed that Lee has all that nice crystal and stuff! Did he register for it? Hahahaha!

  5. I’m just stopping by to add a quick comment. Life has been pretty hectic with getting ready for Easter break. I was doing Pysanky eggs (Ukranian egg dying) with my class, working on a youth retreat, and trying to get ready for an out of town trip all within the space of about 8 days. I’m beat.

One of the things I like about the camaraderie of Lee and Amanda is that he is still just so comfortable with bringing Amanda to his apartment. No one else (other than a date, maybe) seems to be allowed to do that. As has been asked before, what is the reason they are headed to his apartment anyway? If it’s to wait out O’Keefe’s call it’s going to be a pretty long wait since Lee has given him until midnight to respond. They could have just gone back to the Agency. Are they going to just sit around and wait for the call? Are they going to grab a bite to eat and then head back to the office? It just seems to be an automatic thing and has possibly happened before that they have hung out at his apartment, at least off screen. I think it shows just how close they have become. We’ve keep getting little snippets of it here and there that they have socialized somewhat outside of the Agency, like with the NYE party at the Russian embassy.

I hope to play catch up on the previous posts tomorrow. Time for some more sleep. Hope you all are well.

    1. Yes, I get the feeling this is a normal thing for them to do – maybe go back to Lee’s apartment for coffee or a bite to eat… if he keeps anything that’s not mouldy in this fridge and pantry these days 😉 Or maybe just to hang out together.
Whatever, this is clearly nothing out of the ordinary for them. One of the most telling things here is that Lee’s someone else is completely and utterly forgotten for now – by both Lee and Amanda. I get the feeling they are just back to the way things have been for them since BO – best friends enjoying each other’s company.

  6. Bit disappointed we don’t really get to see Amanda flirting, she’s just used her personable nature to charm the guard. Oh well…..
Nice to see Lee not cramping his left hand at an awkward angle writing down his number. As a lefty myself I don’t do that but can see my eldest who is a lefty is starting to do it 😦
Wow that’s a lot of mutual appreciation going on there. Totally preoccupied with complimenting each other they don’t notice the door. Love how Amanda stuffs herself as tightly as possible into the corner. It’s funny how Amanda’s excitement is rubbing off on Lee and he seems to get drawn in. It’s infectious.
Oh and I am going with the jacket being leather. No way would Lee wear vinyl 😉

    Like

    1. Exactly! she doesn’t flirt!!! ugh!!

      mutual appreciation- I like it!

Oh don’t mind me and my vinyl jibes.. I think Lee looks gorgeous in anything (and probably nothing) – I laugh at the (ahem) leather jacket (cough) that looks very much like vinyl because it makes me feel better – I hope when I joke about it I am not being too annoying!!! just feel free to skip my vinyl jibes – and go with it being Leather.. I mean Lee has travelled lots.. he probably bought the jacket in Florence one year or something right?

I know MacGyver had a jacket like it too.. lol.. I just think 80s fashion is so funny now that if I didn’t laugh I’d cry haaa!!!

I know Kiwismh feels the same way you do Jenbo – it’s leather!!! and you guys are sticking with that?? ( sticking like the jacket would if it got too hot!!! whahahahaa)

Okay I’ve gotta run.. I’m heading out now..
      Byeee!

      1. I don’t know…I think their wardrobes took a significant cost cut in S3. I’m going with the vinyl, aka plastic. S1 Lee? Leather all the way.

  7. Ok, how and why do they both end up at his apartment? They would have driven to the agency each in their own cars. They were hunting down the suspect car in the ‘Vette. And then Amanda shows up at TO in her wagon. Did they drive separately back to Lee’s apartment? Or when they switched cars, did they drop off Lee’s car at his apartment? I guess the point is that they are working so well together (back to the trust of BO) and they seem to have forgotten about everything else that has happened the last 2 days. I do love the open praise back and forth to each other.
So what was going to happen if there wasn’t someone in Lee’s apartment? Were they going to have dinner together?

    Like

    1. Good question. Maybe there were going back to wait for a call from O’Keefe. But then what. Would Lee have taken Amanda with him to the set up?? You are right though. The point is that they were enjoying there “working” time together that nothing else seemed to exist for them except the job and being together.

    2. haa haaaa welcome to the dark side LAAL! 🙂 All sounds true to me!!!

in post 14 we hear Lee say thanks for the lift.. so I guess Amanda had dropped Lee back at his apartment.. how or why I have no idea! well spotted!!!

  8. These scenes to me have some of the old camaraderie between the two of them, but they also have something new. They are more on equal ground. They are respecting one another’s abilities in the open now. I know that Amanda has always respected Lee’s abilities as an agent and Lee was learning to respect and trust Amanda’s, but here they are really operating in that mutual trust and admiration. And they are thoroughly enjoying it. I think that is what that elated conversation in the hall way is all about. They are so happy to be working together, to be trusting each other. It is like they are two halves of one whole (professionally here) Acknowledging one another’s gifts and how they could learn from each other and need each other. Of course Amanda is doing that with her praise of Lee and her question about how he learned to do that? But I see Lee also depending on Amanda here for her affirmation that they are on the right track and it is going well. I don’t really see it so much as fishing for a compliment as far as Lee is concerned, I think that is mutual honest conversation.
They are so wrapped up in each other, they don’t notice the door ajar. And the fact that Lee automatically assumes there is an intruder is interesting. I know that is part of his training and his lifestyle, but it almost seems to me that he has completely forgotten that there could be a chance that there is someone else in his life that might for some reason be in his apartment. To me it is as if everything important in his life is out there in the hall with him, his friend, partner, the person that fills his heart, doing and talking about what he loves to do. There is no part of his mind that is thinking about what possibly could be inside his apartment.
One quick comment on the scene in O’Keefe’s office. I do love the way they work off of each other as partners, Lee picking up where Amanda left of, Amanda parroting Lee. And there seems to be none of that old bit about Lee cleaning up Amanda’s botched efforts. They are a team. But I do also love the way Amanda tucks herself behind Lee. Yes that is a perfect picture of Lee and Amanda’s male/female partnership. She is perfectly feminine and that has got to make Lee feel very masculine, in the best sense of both of those words.

    1. Yes!!! there is something new here!!
I think I’ll hold off till post 15 to discuss it some more though – this is when the reverse scene happens.. rather than arriving, Amanda is leaving! ahem!

But.. have loved hearing your thoughts!!! I too love how Amanda tucks herself behind Lee!!! It was the moment I was thinking of when I was responding to your comments earlier Morley! 🙂

This is helping me make sense of where Lee is at with this whole thing

  9. A few more random thoughts I’ve had about this post..

I think I missed an opportunity here – Operation Amanda Flirt should have been called a ‘Fishing Expedition’ 😉 after all she was fishing for information about the car!

Also.. as it turns out.. the only flirting Amanda does is with Lee in the last post – she isn’t flirting here.. and when she gets into O’Keefe’s office there’s no flirting going on ( thank goodness – no Rollo moments please!!)
I’ll get back here to respond to comments soon- byeeee!

Also just wanted to add- I edited the post because I accidentally left out a line of Amanda’s – IMHO an important line – where Amanda jumps in and backs up Lee saying they were Magnusson’s partners.. 🙂

  10. I love it how Lee always laps up Amanda’s praise. It has been awhile since she’s praised him this much (I’m not sure when the last time was, maybe in the first season?), but to me, Lee’s comments aren’t so much about caution or humility as just fishing for more compliments. I think that he’s especially loving it this time because it’s been awhile since Amanda has done this and things have been awkward between them lately, so he’s just eating up all her appreciation, as much as he can get from her.

I think his compliments to Amanda are partly acknowledgement of her progress and accomplishments and partly because he’s just so happy right now with how things are working out and all the praise that Amanda has heaped on him. She’s made him really happy, so he wants to make her happy, too. He might be taking her praise as a sign that things are getting back to normal between them and that Amanda has forgiven him for their earlier problems, and that makes him really happy, too.

Of course, I also think that it’s not just a happy moment between friends and partners, but also kind of a reestablishment of the affection between them. Praise is one of the ways Amanda shows her affection for Lee, and that’s one of the reasons why Lee loves it so much. He hasn’t had that much real affection from other people in his life, so he laps up Amanda’s honest affection and appreciation at every opportunity. His praise to her is also a sign of affection, although he may not be fully admitting it to himself at this point.

Unfortunately, things really aren’t completely okay between Amanda and Lee, and Amanda’s affections are just about to get another test.

    1. I got a * gag * Artful Dodger vibe to her gushing praise of Lee here, but at least it was deserved here and he returned the compliments rather than acting like a complete * totally not PG term *

      1. yeah I was wondering why I didn’t get that vibe this time Cindy! I concluded it was gushing of a slightly different kind.. well that was the explanation I came up with.. not sure if I’m right!

    2. Like what you said here, Jestress! It does feel a bit back to normal compared to their earlier awkward dress conversation. Lee certainly has grown to realize how to better treat his friend and work partner.

  12. A further thought occurred re the plastic jacket – if I accept the fact that it is vinyl 😉 Is this the last time we see Lee wearing it? If it is it could be a good metaphor for the final vestiges of Scarecrow (fake Lee) disappearing from his personal relationship with Amanda. He still needs the Scarecrow persona for Agency work but it will be interesting to see whether this persona ever interferes again with his personal relationship with Amanda.
From now on I’d like to think Amanda gets to experience only the real and honest Lee Stetson.
It also occurs to me that part of Lee’s turmoil so far in this episode is the fact that Amanda has become one of the few people, perhaps the only person, in his life he can just be Lee Stetson with. Since BO I think their friendship has deepened to the point where he does totally relax when he’s with her, he doesn’t have to maintain any façade. So far in this episode he has definitely not been totally relaxed around Amanda – confusion, guilty conscience, denial? Perhaps a mixture of all. One thing is for certain, he is the architect of his own misery I think.

    1. I agree, kiwismh, that Amanda is the one person Lee gets to be his real self with. She is very special to him in that regard, because she sought out the real Lee and enjoys being with Lee. She sees Scarecrow as the professional that she admires, but she also sees that Lee has worked hard to become Scarecrow. While she much prefers Lee to Scarecrow, she understands the need for Scarecrow and the dedication it took to build Scarecrow’s reputation. i believe this is a big part of her acceptance of Lee in the past. However, she’s getting tired of dealing with Scarecrow so often. She’s ready for a healthy dose of Lee, just Lee, thank you.

  14. I’m thinking Amanda didn’t reverse out of there once Tarzan said if she was going to visit O’Keefe it had to be “now” because she realised she had created a good ruse and could get a lot more info if she managed to get in and out of Transoceanic on the pretext of this ruse. No one there should recognise her (even Tarzan, unless he recognises her voice from when she was yelling out to Lee at Magnusson’s apartment) and they would be unlikely to harm someone they don’t see as a threat. No sense leaving any scope for another Police investigation that might just lead back to Transoceanic if they don’t cover their tracks 100%.
Amanda has stepped up her game and is being professional, keeping her wits about her and going in with a good “cover”.
That is a funny shot of Lee hanging off the side of the truck but I suppose he had to get in there somehow. The white sneakers ruin the whole look though – he should have gone with some brown sneakers to matchy matchy with the jacket. Sorry Iwsod but I can’t reconcile the thought of Lee Stetson wearing a vinyl jacket, even though this one does look suspiciously plastic – in my SMK world it’s leather. (And, yes, I do feel sorry for cow.) We did used to wear more leather in the 80’s I think – I had two leather pencil-style skirts, and leather bomber jackets were very popular. The white sneakers are very 80’s too – I went through numerous pairs of white tennis-style shoes – known here by their brand names Commando M’s and Bata Bullets.
Anyway, back to the action. Amanda again shows her ability to think on her feet by coming up with the resume story, although not actually having the resume with her or in her car (presumably) she left herself a bit open to suspicion. But she seems to have learned (from Lee) the art of a good bluff. They work so well together in this scene – professionally they are both back on track again, back into their natural rhythm, so to speak.
I get the feeling through the bluff and the discussion back at Lee’s apartment building that both have completely forgotten about the awkwardness of the past day or two. Lee certainly seems to have forgotten all about that someone else in this life, and Amanda appears completely back at ease with him and herself again. Maybe she’s stowed that uncomfortable piece of her life deep away for the moment and the excitement of working successfully alongside Lee has taken over.
Again, Amanda shows Lee she instantly knows what to do in this unexpected situation with the apartment door. He doesn’t have to worry about making sure she doesn’t do anything silly or unsafe anymore. She gets herself instantly out of harm’s way and is there to back him up if need be – hopefully by doing more than just banging on the door and yelling this time 😉 (Although I suppose she was thinking that might at least distract the bad guy enough for Lee to get the upper hand in his fight with Tarzan.)
As for Lee, he has so completely forgotten about someone else that it obviously doesn’t even occur to him that “someone else” might be responsible for leaving his door ajar. We don’t know right now who is in Lee’s apartment, but clearly it is a personally dangerous scenario for his apartment to have been entered or interfered with by anybody. Anybody who knows him well enough to be in his apartment would realise this, and wouldn’t leave his door unlocked! I would say that’s a major fail for whoever did leave it unlocked and, worse, ajar. 😉
He goes in assuming a break-in or maybe enemy agent activity. Even when he sees the table setting it doesn’t immediately dawn on him.
“Who says I have a new girlfriend?” Indeed!

    1. Hi kiwismh! I always thought that Amanda just sort of froze and didn’t know what to do when Tarzan said she had to come now. Did the security guard have a gun on him? I’m too lazy to scroll back up and look. I just figured that she thought she’d better do what she’s told. She knows Lee is out there as back-up and so she has confidence that he’ll come save her from any messes. I do like how you give her more credit than I do though. I think she has progresses so much professionally since TFT and I’m glad to see you give her the benefit of the doubt. I’ll have to watch it again and pay more attention.

I totally agree on the white sneakers!!! I said that in my comment too! I also agree that the excitement of the case and the feeling like they are working together as partners, being comfortable with it, and being happy with and complimenting each other’s work has take center stage for Lee and Amanda. They are focusing on work – what they do. I do think all the personal stuff has fallen into the background for Amanda. It hasn’t gone away, but she would rather think about happy things while she can.

I also agree with the leaving the door ajar thing. That is a failure! Why would the person inside do that? Maybe whoever it is doesn’t really know what Lee does for a living?

  15. Oh I just adore these scenes and all of Lee and Amanda’s interactions here! Amanda is hilariously funny and adorable. I love how she says, “She dies” and how she faithfully parrots everything Lee says in the office scene. And yes, those are Lee’s hands. I checked veeeery carefully! Isn’t it wonderful to see how excited they are to complement each other and build each other up. I have nothing deep or profound to say, just enjoying it all!
