Out in the country, where bad things happen in smk Winking smile we find Lee stands in the bushes with a listening thingy.. What’s he listening to?

We hear Harry’s voice over Lee’s listening thingy: I let Crawford search my office for a duplicate of the letter that doesn’t exist. [because most sane people would assume there would be a duplicate of such an important letter! lol!] ….Which tells me he doesn’t have the real one anymore. Hard to believe it’s 30 years since Ike gave it to me.
(whooo that code name Kolinsky is 30 years old.. umm you don’t think that Harry is Kolinsky do you? naaahhh!!! Winking smile )
The camera pans over to Harry and Amanda sitting on his patio..

Harry continues to be hear over Lee’s listening thingy : I made it simple and gave myself the same agency code name as the Russians  used for me.
Hmm.. getting closer we can hear classical music playing.. funny.. we couldn’t hear that through Lee’s listening thingy! Does it magically filter out the music?!
Amanda: then you’re still in the computer records?
Thornton: that’s nobody’s business but mine
Ike: Meow!!!  Winking smile  [and Ike’s apparently]
tee hee.. we cut to Ike the cat, who is being harassed by something furry on his face.. no not his whiskers.. tell us what it is Harry!

We cut to hearing Harry speak directly:  You know what this is? …This is a Dancing Weasel.
My Soviet friends gave it to me. It’s quite an honour.

…but the Kolinsky are very smart, they’re a devil to catch. In fact, you’re lucky if you even see the tail going the other way.

Harry playfully wags the tail of the weasel fur.. and Amanda is charmed.. they seem awfully relaxed given the letter is still missing and Crawford is looking for it!

We hear Amanda over Lee’s listening device thingy: Well it’s pretty amazing that you could be a triple agent for 30 years and not get caught.
We hear Harry respond over the listening thingy and the camera pans to a different part of the countryside.. Crawford is there too.. 3.04 TAIL OF THE DANCING WEASEL.avi_001982549
and what- Lee didn’t notice him? does that listening thingy only work in one direction? and how did Crawford find them? did he follow Lee who was following Amanda? If Crawford was waiting for Amanda to follow her, he could have found the map under the windscreen wiper and taken it.. and found Harry!!
Ohhh whatev!
Harry: I only went against them on an operation nine or ten times. I feed them a scraps. I’m very popular in the Lubyanka. [I looked it up, the headquarters of KGB in Moscow!]

We cut to Lee now uncomfortable with the level of volume his listening thingy is picking up.

[interesting.. explains how Crawford got the Q bureau a little I guess.. he wasn’t always such a goof!]
Continuing on with the scene now Lee apparently can’t hear anything, Harry asks Amanda: You trust me?

Harry picks up Ike and begins walking away from Amanda. Amanda stands to follow him.
… first I’ve gotta get by Lee.
Amanda: Lee?
Harry: Oh he’s out there  you can count on it.
Amanda: oh I don’t think he followed me!

Thornton: Out the back way…(he puts down ike in the basement there) …. okay Ike.
Ike the cat: Meoooww!!
Amanda: Harry! don’t you make me worry about cha!

Is it just me or does the music/listening thingy not make sense? Lee could hear the bit about Harry being dancing weasel and Kolinsky?? and being a triple agent??  and popular at Lubyanka?! me confused.. but.. Doesn’t Amanda look lovely in Red!
Harry leaves, and we cut to Lee removing his headphones..

Harry drives off, and Crawford reveals himself on his motorbike to follow Harry, he zooms between Lee and Amanda to follow Harry who is beyond them and moving fast.

As Crawford approaches, Lee dives for Amanda and pushes her out of the way.. ROFL!! [So no kiss when they met in the middle.. but maybe they can just roll a bit in the dirt Winking smile tee heee… ]

I’m not worried about Harry.. I just keep freeze framing where Lee and Amanda fall on top of each other 😉  – only it’s probably stunt Lee and Amanda’s anyway.. Oh well!

Well, I’m annoyed! All this dialogue so far has been from a great distance! I wanted to see Lee’s reaction here! ugh!!! bad director!!!

[Hmm interesting that Amanda describes Harry and Lee’s relationship this way ‘best friends’ – either it is a script error or Amanda is tip toeing around how Harry actually said in post 1 ‘I mean Lee no harm. He’s a lot like my own boy.’  – not a best friend! Is this because Lee might be a little sensitive with the father figure idea? thoughts??]
Anyway.. I digress.. Lee responds with: A triple agent for 30 years?!!

Lee has already accepted it and moved on.. on to figuring out the case.. Good to see his confidence in Amanda, and Harry has not at all been shaken by these events – he’s secure in his friendships with them both! Great to see! Must be a relief for Amanda no?! Anyone got thoughts on this?
Lee: I guess the guy saw his career on the skids and wanted a new one with the other side! The only way to get it was to destroy the agency.

  1. I like how Harry calls Amanda “honey” and kisses her forehead. He said he thinks of Lee as a son… and Amanda is his girl (whether or not he wants to admit it), so it’s kind of a father-in-law goodbye. Harry has a soft spot for Amanda. I’ve had friends’ dads or older family friends do the same to me. It’s sweet and endearing.

    Oh how I wish I could count to 100 and call for Lee and he’d appear…. sigh

    I love any explosion where Lee has to fall on Amanda to protect her from the blast. The aftermath is always sweet, as they hold each other in shock, but so grateful to be alive and in each other’s arms.

  2. I have to agree, Lee does look delicious in blue. I like the blue turtleneck in Savior better though. I like a turtleneck over a stood up plastic vinyl collar any day.

    Yeah, ditto on Lee not hearing Crawford or knowing he was there. Gah. The country’s top spy gets snuck up on like that with a motorcycle??? Those headphones on Lee’s head must super duper good and block out noises like you said.

    Okay, this scene with Amanda and Harry V. is endearing to me, but just a little over the top with the “honey” and the kiss/air kiss. This only seems believable if they’ve had other meetings we’ve not seen or something. I really like Harry V., but this, not as much.

    I don’t see relief on Lee’s face when she hollars for him, so much as I see, “Yup, that’s right, I’m here and I know what you’ve been up to. I done figured it out. It was Harry-honey who had you following me. And now I’m not mad at you anymore, I might even be a little grateful.”

    Lee REALLY looks good in this scene…it almost seems a little out of place…I’m wondering if this on top of each other thingy affected Lee in more ways than one if you catch my drift. Too bad he had to get up and go after Crawford 😉

    Not sure what to think about the “best friend” comment from Amanda. Was it a goof? I don’t see why Amanda would avoid the father figure thing with Lee. They seem close enough as friends now that coming from Amanda it wouldn’t seem so bad. But that’s just me.

    I love Lee’s hair at the end of this scene – there’s that little bit you can see poking out from behind his right ear – cute! It’s got a teensy bit of curl in it!

    I think Lee had these two figured out before this scene happened, and that’s why he was there with the listening thingy. It was his final ounce of proof. Harry also knew that Lee was out there, so either Harry has sensors that Lee tripped or a hidden camera in the woods or something. I think Lee’s tone with Amanda here is to let her know that he’s not happy that the tables were turned and she was spying on him. Why didn’t she just say something to him? I think he knows Amanda well enough to know that she was following an authority figure and doing it for Lee’s own good, so he can’t really be mad at her. Lee doesn’t like not knowing what’s going on, and he certainly doesn’t like the surprise of Harry being a triple agent. I don’t think Lee completely trusts Harry with all that’s going on. He knows Amanda believes Harry, and I think he wants to believe it too, but now he’s got to go get proof.

      I confess I too found the kiss/honey a little OTT.. but given I had earlier suggested that Harry was putting words in Lee’s mouth, and embellishing what Lee had said to persuade Amanda to spy on Lee and help him? I figured I had pushed my luck far enough with Harry and I’d let that one slide! [so glad you didn’t!]

      Amanda is a professional woman. who gets treated like his daughter or something in 5 minutes because she is important to Lee? meh! I think I am prone to being sensitive about how women are treated at times..especially in the workforce- so I didn’t go there.. basically BJo, I’m right there with you. It’s suppose to be endearing.. but in a wider context Harry compliments Amanda’s instincts and skill while giving her a little pat on the head. What a good little girl! meh..
      Must.. resist… ranting!

      1. Yeah, I’ve enjoyed the binge too. It stinks that it’s all catch-up comments, but that’s ok. It’s what I can do. I don’t like to be the first to comment on a post anyway – not that that’s likely to ever happen 😆 !! And actually, when I binge, it’s much easier for me to keep my comments consistent, which I like.

        And it’s really only watching this episode now as an adult women with work experience that this scene here seems a little OTT. In the beginning I wasn’t so put off, but here, it just feels a little icky or something. Maybe it’s that kiss. A cheek one would have been better.

  4. One of the things I like best about this scene is that, when Lee tackles Amanda, he turns his body so that he lands on the ground first, cushioning her fall. It would take skill to know how to do that, not to mention being really sweet! (sighs) 😀

        Oh and I agree with you allofakind, I think Lee had suspected Amanda was in touch with Harry somehow..[her and her sudden asking!] that gorgeous look he gives her as he sees her try and slip out of the bullpen unnoticed? I was thinking he suspects if he follows her she will lead him to harry.. just a vibe.. and yeah that weird unmarked phone line – with all the weird dialogue it gets a little confusing, but we can at least figure that Lee knew that Amanda/Harry/ Crawford/ Kolinksy were somehow connected in this weird case!

  6. I love Lee’s “You were spying on me!” comments. He just can’t believe that Amanda would spy on him, of all people. They’re partners and friends, and they’re starting to be something more, and yet she spied on him. He doesn’t seem too angry about, more incredulous. I’m trying to decide whether he’s having more trouble believing the fact that she spied on him or the fact that she was doing it so well. 🙂

    However, I think in the end, he understands that she didn’t have much choice and that she had his best interests at heart. I love it, too, that all along he has her best interests at heart. First, he doesn’t tell Billy about Amanda’s strange behavior, and then he saves her when Crawford almost runs her down. No matter what she does, he loves her and trusts her. 😀

    1. Like this Jestress. I don’t think he was every really angry at her even when he came back to the Q-Bureau after he figured out she had followed him. I think it was mostly curiosity about what she could possibly be up to, with some irritation mixed in that she followed him.

      1. Yes, I think he loves her but hasn’t recognised yet that is what he is feeling. He just knows right now he feels different about her than he has ever felt about anyone else and that she occupies a place in his life and his heart that no one else ever has.

    3. Maybe Lee is remembering Spiderweb and the fact that he was ordered to spy on Amanda. He knows it’s part of the job so he can move on from that pretty easily. Maybe the real surprise is that Amanda has advanced to this level and now gets these types of assignments.

      3. I agree LASinLA. I think Lee has always viewed this odd behavior of Amanda’s as a professional thing. He knew something weird was going on with her, but I think he was more mad at the fact that he knew someone was having her follow him and spy on him and he was not part of it. It didn’t take him long to figure it out, and Harry knew it wouldn’t take long to figure it out either. I think he didn’t press her after the baseball throw out of professional repsect. She was being ordered to do this, like he was in Spiderweb, but wasn’t going to give her the third degree like he would a baddie because she is is partner.

  7. Hi all, can I join the party? I have some thoughts about the nightgown. Hope I didn’t somehow miss someone else with the same comment. I’m trying to catch up to the next post.

    I had a nice soft flannel nightgown something like that when we lived in the cold north east, and I was married then too. It was a budget-saver to turn down the thermostat at night. If nature calls you could freeze your butt off wearing a negligee.

    I know they are probably trying to reinforce Amanda’s conservative nature, but it’s also fall and probably getting chilly. She’s a single mom with a part-time job and money has always been tight. Ya gotta save those dimes somewhere. Besides, she likes to crack the window.

    Oh and, I’m swooning too. Lee is really fiiine in jeans.

    1. Welcome to the party Cyd – it seems to be a pyjama and flannel nightie party for most here it seems. It was me who started the conversation about Amanda’s not so flattering nightwear which got many JWWM readers exercised about the subject. Does that make me JWWM’s Agent Provocateur? 😎
      However, it has turned out to be an interesting topic for discussion – and the conversation will no doubt be continued in an upcoming episode, of which we cannot speak yet, eh Iwsod 😉
      I’m in the “less is more” camp but then I live in a temperate climate.

    2. Welcome to the party Cyd!! I agree a long nightgown in the cold weather in the best. I like to tuck my feet up and wrap myself up in it when I get into a cold bed. I could see Amanda doing that. Especially when sleeping alone, a negligee is not great for warmth.

  8. I don’t actually think Lee was surprised that Amanda had been spying on him. I mean at least he didn’t find out from following her to Harry. I think he already knew she was working with Harry but didn’t know why or the details (such as the letter and the triple agent thing). I think he figured it out with the nightgown phone call. I just don’t think he confronted her about it until he could put the pieces together and call her on it when she wouldn’t be able to claim it wasn’t true.

    I agree that the ‘best friend’ line just wasn’t right. That is not the same thing as viewing Lee like his own boy and it just seems out of the blue. I don’t get the feeling they have a ‘best friend’ relationship so I would think it would strike Lee as odd as well.

      Also agree that the “best friend” line seems clunky. I’m thinking Iwsod is on the right track with Amanda modifying Harry’s sentiment to make it more palatable for Lee’s sensitivity to the concept of father and son.

  9. What I like about Harry is that he is personable. Somehow he has been a triple agent and started the Agency and trained all these operatives, but he is still down to earth and able to be personable. Quite an accomplishment. A good man for Lee to be close to, in a father/ son sort of way. There is hope for him.
    Thanks for the added dialogue from the script. I like that Harry mentioned that Crawford was cocky. Wasn’t Lee cocky too? Especially in the beginning of the series. But Lee has grown and in this episode he is most definitely not cocky. I think that is what I like most about the look on his face when Amanda calls to him. It is the look of a man who has accepted the reality of interdependence and trust in another person.He is connected to Harry and now he is also connected to Amanda, and it is a connection that is possible because of mutual care and appreciation.
    I like the way Lee speaks to Amanda in that next part, even if we can’t see it. There is no anger in his voice. He is surprised, but I think he is pleasantly surprised. Amanda was spying on him, she did a good job. Harry asked her too? Amanda knows Harry? Harry trusts Amanda too? Amanda is pretty capable and it is being recognized by others. Amanda is not only becoming my friend, but she is becoming almost like a real partner…

    2. Like what you say here, Morley, and I see your one of your last sentences a little differently. I think Lee is already thinking Amanda is his friend and on her way to being a real partner. I think after their dinner in OTL they both recognize and consider each other as a good friend.

      And now that he is invested in friendship with her and acknowledged it and acting on it, he seems to be even more interested in helping her develop professionally. I think that’s why she is doing so much more in S3 – that and the fact that Lee realizes she is capable and he trusts and respects her abilities so he opens up the gates for her. I also think that the more she develops professionally, the more he trusts and respects her, which results in him falling for her a little bit further every time.

  10. First of all, more pics of these two good looking people. As I said before I like it when they are outdoors. Lee, Lee, Lee…if I were to create a highlight reel of Lee’s swoony goodness there would be plenty of pics from this episode. I just keep scrolling and sighing and scrolling and sighing.

    I find it so interesting that here Lee is looking and looking for Harry and Amanda was the one who could lead him to Harry. It definitely would have been nice to see his reaction when he discovered just who Amanda was going to see.

    Harry and Amanda are cute together. I also like how Harry calls her honey. I love the line that she trusts Harry because she trusts Lee’s reaction to Harry possibly being in trouble. She knows Lee and trusts Lee and therefore she can trust Harry. I like how she has accepted him and tells him not to make her worry about him.

    The looks between Lee and Amanda are pretty awesome. At first she looks at him like she can’t believe he followed her. Never mind that’s what she did with him. Lots of little role reversals going on here.

    I need to go check my DVDs but I think when Lee is fussing about Amanda spying on him I think you can hear him tapping on his chest, like he just can’t believe she would do this to him. He’s special, she’s not supposed to do this to him. It reminds me of my niece and nephew when they were younger, they would tap on their chests and proclaim me as their “auntie” and no one else’s. It was like this possessive thing. I think Amanda tries to defuse his distress by saying she was spying on everybody, which she wasn’t.

    Whatever Emily taught Lee about patience and control he didn’t seem to learn the lesson eel,l at least not at first. He used to be such a hothead. However, that patience and control is now more evident in his recent dealings with Amanda. He reacts to her in a much more relaxed way. He listens and doesn’t given in to knee-jerk reactions.

    They’re very patriotic here. Amanda in her red and white and Lee in his blue. I just noticed it. Maybe because Memorial Day is rolling around here.

      Valerie, I like that part too. Just like we get to see how well Lee has come to know Amanda in his comments about staying in the car and not wanting to lie, we get to see how well Amanda has studied Lee. She knows him enough to not be surprised that he would care deeply for Harry. This knowledge would also confirm to her that she can trust the other things that Harry told her about Lee. It is very affirming all around.

      I think the tapping sound you hear is the sound of the ‘vette’s boot (trunk) opening, which Lee activated with the remote on his key chain.
      Does anyone else hear this?

      1. I reversed the section on the DVD several times. The tapping is there, but Lee doesn’t have any keys as the camera pans down to show he and Amanda. Of course they could still be in his pocket, but I’m not yet convinced it’s the trunk as it’s a rhythmic tapping, sort of a quick one-two-three. And it seems to fit what he is saying. Then again I could just be making a mountain out of a molehill.

          1. I just see him holding on to the strap of the bag he’s carrying and this is again after reversing, pausing, and using slo-mo. This might just be another one of those agree to disagree moments like the thumb caress in TLODG and the “hold still” in SD.

    DRAT! I’ll still try and let you know if it works for me……..Or if you don’t hear back from me, maybe it has. 😉
    I would have LOVED to see Lee’s reaction when he realized Amanda was meeting with Harry. Oh well, their roll in the dirt will have to suffice.
    Lee’s been trained by Emily, Harry — anyone else up to this point with the current airing order?? No wonder there was no money in the budget to train Amanda for so long or to even get her her own ID badge.
    And super hawt superspy Lee is looking extra mighty fine in his jeans and the great outdoors.
