11/12 Season Three, Episode 04: Tail of the Dancing Weasel- Scarecrow and Mrs King (Morley’s order: Episode 03)

Crawford meets  Gregory at the chemical plant.. and tries to return the 50 thousand he was paid to get the Ike Letter (the president, not the cat 😉 )
Gregory: I have no intention of accepting my money back and you’ll have no way of spending it when you’re dead either. I want that letter!
Whooo this dialogue is so cutting edge evil!! shivers!!!! Winking smile tee heee.. okay okay.. it’s hilarious! I know at times the baddies are a big yawn.. but sometimes the dialogue is so bad it’s good!!!! [anyone agree?]
Once again, quite a bit of this dialogue was shot from a distance..
3.04 TAIL OF THE DANCING WEASEL.avi_002191958
Crawford says he can’t get the letter it was hidden in his office and now he can’t get it..  Uh oh.. this can’t be good..
Gregory: Pity. You can’t get hold of the fabled letter and I can’t ruin the agency and worst of all I can’t tell which one of you have been deceiving me.
Crawford: well I’m not. If I was playing that game, do you think I’d be here telling you I can’t get the letter?!
Gregory: Odd you should mention the game.
[I agree!! there it is again – this game!! what’s the significance?] .. it’s taken some rather curious turns lately. Melrose assures me that Harry Thornton is retired but I can’t risk it.
[what does Billy saying Harry is retired prove?! he can be retired and a double agent.. or not retired and a double agent.. or triple! Don’t they want Harry to not be retired? so he can pass them info? or is old info just as good? anyone?]
Crawford: Melrose doesn’t know. He’s never seen the letter.
Gregory: neither have I.
3.04 TAIL OF THE DANCING WEASEL.avi_002208375Gregory changes the ‘game’.. if Crawford can kill Harry and blame it on the Americans, then Gregory is happy to call it even..
3.04 TAIL OF THE DANCING WEASEL.avi_002218952Gregory: he’ll be here at 2.
sheesh! Crawford is going to have to truly sell out and turn to violence – where previously it was hinted he didn’t tend to resort to violence (IMHO).
The scene ends with a malevolent smile from Gregory
3.04 TAIL OF THE DANCING WEASEL.avi_002225358
and an intense close in on Crawford’s clenching jaw! Winking smile Let the games begin!
[I’m wondering why Crawford looks beaten up though.. when he fell of his bike, he had a helmet on!]
3.04 TAIL OF THE DANCING WEASEL.avi_002233767
Lee and Amanda head back to the agency..hmm we see Lee and Amanda pull up in his vette- but Amanda drove her own car to Harry’s!
3.04 TAIL OF THE DANCING WEASEL.avi_002235368
Hmm maybe they dropped Amanda’s car on that street she parks on now, and she hitched a ride to where Lee parks under IFF or something.. me confused.. Bring scotty back!! Winking smile
Lee and Amanda head down the hallway towards the Q bureau.
Lee: After we were surprised in Korea, Ike was disgusted at our entire intelligence community. Harry was a top flight lawyer and Ike admired his tee shot. Laughing out loud So he asked him to do a study… along the way he created the agency.
3.04 TAIL OF THE DANCING WEASEL.avi_002247781
[oh wait.. okay what Korea mentions have we heard before.. anyone? anyone know what this is referring to? did the Colonel fight in Korea?]
3.04 TAIL OF THE DANCING WEASEL.avi_002252385Can I just say – nice to see Lee telling Amanda about how the agency was created! Smile A little hint of how Lee and Amanda are sharing stories much more these days and not just on a need to know basis Winking smile and Lee looks to be enjoying himself 😉
– crash! we hear a noise in the Q bureau.. Lee and Amanda are startled..
3.04 TAIL OF THE DANCING WEASEL.avi_002255388
3.04 TAIL OF THE DANCING WEASEL.avi_002257390Love how Lee turns to look at Amanda before he makes a move!
3.04 TAIL OF THE DANCING WEASEL.avi_002258591
Lee moves to approach the Q bureau door with caution..
3.04 TAIL OF THE DANCING WEASEL.avi_002260994
yep.. gun out!
3.04 TAIL OF THE DANCING WEASEL.avi_002264764Lee kicks the door open and aims his gun at the intruder: Alright hold it!
lol.. he surprises the cleaner (man, does that cleaner have a death wish or what?!)
Cleaner: Step back, if it ain’t the new chief! I think that is so very with it when you enter gun first!
3.04 TAIL OF THE DANCING WEASEL.avi_002267400Lee: I’m sorry Ragmop (he really calls him that with a straight face? man.. now I know why the cleaner had a death wish!)
3.04 TAIL OF THE DANCING WEASEL.avi_002275008Lee: I guess you didn’t hear of yesterday’s intrusion huh. Big news! …Amanda!!!
Lee calls to Amanda that she can come in. She appears at the door.
Amanda: hello ragmop
3.04 TAIL OF THE DANCING WEASEL.avi_002279412Ragmop: Helllloooooo Mrs King! Hear about the intrusion?
[hear about it? she was in it!]
Amanda, with her gift for understatement:
Yes I did.
3.04 TAIL OF THE DANCING WEASEL.avi_002284617Ragmop: that crazy Marsden broad downstairs put 32 slugs in the wall! haaaa!
3.04 TAIL OF THE DANCING WEASEL.avi_002287020[Broad? don’t like him! hmm!]

Lee asks Ragmop if he moved Harry’s personal files from ‘here’ when he retired – is ‘here’ the Q bureau? or the agency? sounds like the former-was the Q bureau Harry’s office once? It was harry’s and then Larry’s? Aie!! 😉 …  I don’t know!
3.04 TAIL OF THE DANCING WEASEL.avi_002295028Ragmop certainly did move the files!!! I wish he’d remove himself from there while he’s at it.. Ragmop says they took the papers to the state department, and that he only told Crawford the same thing last month.. whatev- we already know Crawford knew.. who cares.. spare me Ragmop!!!!
Love how Amanda puts her hand on Lee’s arm at hearing Crawford had asked after the files!
3.04 TAIL OF THE DANCING WEASEL.avi_002302635
Lee and Amanda rush Ragmop out the door.. and Ragmop is a bit put out.
3.04 TAIL OF THE DANCING WEASEL.avi_002310243
Whatev.. go go!!! and don’t come back!!!!
One good thing about Ragmop? Looks like he was Lee’s inspiration here in Saved by the bells! as Lee went undercover as a Cleaner!
1.08 SAVED BY THE BELLS
Sorry if you like him, but I find Ragmop tedious!!!  looks like this character may have been planned to be ongoing.. otherwise why give us his ‘name’ .. sooo many times!  guess he didn’t rate well and he was canned.. good decision..

3.04 TAIL OF THE DANCING WEASEL.avi_002318251I must say I love Lee and Amanda’s reaction when he’s moved on – aie.. what a pain in the butt!!! They don’t even need to say a word.. Lee just kinda groans and Amanda shakes her head! tee hee… great to see them in sync again.

Okay! best I finish here.. and I’ll be back with the final post on this episode soon! Anyone liking Ragmop?! do tell..and lol please share why.. cos I’m not seeing it haaaa!! Smile

  1. When I taught elementary music, i always did a 50s and 60s unit with my 5th graders where we learned the songs and Dances of that time period. Then they’d put on poodle skirts and slick back their hair and have a “Sock Hop” for their parents. One of the songs we loved was called “Rag Mop”. We always did a hand jive with it. That unit and concert each year was sooo much fun!

I always thought that Rag Mop, the janitor, Who I don’t care much for, “morphed” into Leatherneck, who I like.

  2. Crawford’s masseter might bulge, but no way does it come close to Lee’s in terms of sexiness…but that’s just my opinion.

I think Lee is sharing about the creation of the Agency because she was interested in the history, can ask about Harry officially now that Lee knows her connection, and he trusts Amanda. Yeah, it’s nice on a personal level that he’s sharing, but I also think Lee is doing it from a professional angle as well. I think in his mind this is just part of her very untraditional career path and on-the-job training.

Ragmop! I love Ragmop! And his description of that Marsden broad! LOL, I’m not offended in the least! I’m cracking up! Ragmop is a bit odd, and I don’t love him like Trucker Travis or Harry V., but I think he’s a bit funny in the delivery of his lines in these scene. And I don’t think Lee and Amanda think Ragmop is a paint in the butt at all – just that he’s a bit weird and they’re glad he’s moved on so they can get to work.

  3. I think its funny that Ragmop and janitor Lee are dressed similarly, a bit of odd continuity there for SMK.
But I do like the way Lee is sharing info with Amanda. He isn’t holding it back from her, and he definitely isn’t mad that she was spying on him. Now he is filling in all the gaps for the case.

  4. I love how patriotic Lee and Amanda look in their red, white and blue in this scene, lol! I have been lurking again, seems I never have time to comment these days, but I am LOVING the season three posts!! I think many of the episodes in S3 are some of my absolute favorites and this introduction to the Q bureau in this ep is so fun. 😀

    1. Hi Julia, I mentioned something about the patriotic coloring in the last post. I think I was focused on it because it’s Memorial Day weekend here. I wonder if it was on purpose or an interesting coincidence. I’m thinking it was probably planned.

      1. I like the red white and blue too. I’m thinking it was planned that way because those colors are so vivid outside. They wore similar colors in Utopia Now. They look gorgeous in their scenes that are outdoors in this episode.

  5. Amanda seems to be rubbing her arm as they approach the Q bureau. Maybe KJ is going for some realism after the protective tackle from Lee.

Never cared much for Ragmop. He was only on for a few minutes but he just seemed off. I think I mentioned this way back at the beginning of the episode, but maybe since there’s the new aspect of the Q Bureau they are introducing all these new recurring characters. Some worked, some didn’t, some were tweaked. TP, Leatherneck, and Beamon stuck around. Glad Ragmop didn’t.

  6. I thought they might have gone home from the country via Arlington or Lee’s apartment so they could freshen up after their roll in the dirt. They are both wearing the same clothes and not a smudge to be seen or a hair out of place. So, Amanda left her car at Lee’s or at home. Makes more sense for her to leave it at Lee’s rather than have to rely on Lee or someone else to give her a ride home later on. Would also lessen the risk of Dotty or the boys seeing Lee or Lee’s vehicle. Maybe they’ve been used to going back to Lee’s place to freshen up, or have a little down-time while they’re on a case. Seems that’s what they were doing in OTL before Leslie ruined the moment. Lee’s apartment I assume is reasonably proximate to the Agency – centrally located, Georgetown? I’m not at all familiar with DC so anyone in the know like to hazard an educated guess?
Interesting, same scenario as occurred outside Lee’s apartment during OTL. No annoying girlfriend behind the open door this time thank goodness. Just a lippy janitor. 😉

  7. I can’t quite grasp how Gregory getting the letter could ruin the Agency, unless it would be a major embarrassment for the US in the midst of détente with the Soviets. I can see how it might be damaging for Gregory to have all this going on under his nose for years without him being aware of it. Is that why he says, “I can’t risk it”? Seems he is miffed that the Agency and Billy might be playing games with him – deceiving him – which is a bit rich given that he has probably being playing games from his end too.
However, I still think overall Gregory has probably been used to a reasonably frank relationship with the Agency in the interests of keeping things on an even keel and keeping his cushy posting in Washington. If this letter ever saw the light of day no doubt the KGB and Soviet government wouldn’t be too impressed with Gregory’s lack of vigilance and would find a way to punish him. I think Gregory wants to get his hands on the letter so he knows exactly what has been going on, who has been “deceiving” him, but ultimately he might be interested in either destroying the letter so his masters didn’t find out, or conversely presenting it to his masters as a “look what I found out, aren’t I clever” scenario.
Alternatively, from what he has said, he may want to use the letter to somehow ruin the Agency in the midst of the Cold War winding down. The Agency is supposed to be “fighting the good” fight so if it was found it was indulging in dirty tricks (like the CIA) their funding (which doesn’t seem great at the best of times) might just be stopped and the Agency shut down. Again, another coup for Gregory.
But somehow killing Harry and blaming it on the Americans (executing a traitor/double agent presumably) will also solve the problem.
It’s like a game of chess with Gregory. He’s prepared to change his strategy as the scenario shifts and twists. He wants to win this game because I get the feeling that losing could be bad (or even fatal) for him.

    1. I kind of thought that the big deal about the letter was twofold: it would allow Gregory to prove to his own government that Harry was a triple agent, and, if the Russians had the letter, they could expose Harry to the US government as a double agent, thereby ruining him and everything he worked on, which would be regarded as suspect. The letter is (apparently) the only proof that Harry is actually working for the US and not for the Russians, so with the letter safely in possession, Gregory could get Harry in a lot of trouble with the US.

It seems that Gregory knows or guesses that Harry has been deceiving him, and is out both for proof and revenge. Revenge is at least an explanation of why they will be satisfied with just killing him, if they can’t do better.

      1. HapperCamper, I bow to your superior knowledge. You could make a good baddie! 😉
Gregory is one of my fave bad guys – I like that he doesn’t go down the stupid elaborate path. If he can’t get the letter, just kill Harry. And he is so cool and laid back in his approach – no OTT baddie personality quirks with him. Just the bad stuff done as quickly and efficiently as possible. I like that attitude in a baddie. 😎

      1. Jestress, I loved this little video. Many years ago my Dad and his brothers were musicians and they used to play this song , only they played it with a western swing beat….I didn’t think anyone else had ever heard that song but me and my sisters..Dad and his brothers are gone now, so thanks for the pleasant memory

    1. Oh boy! that’s hilarious!! Hey was this before or after this episode?

The script spells his name: Ragmop

but then again.. the scripts have typos all the time and offer refer to Amanka or Amadna! 😉

      1. I’m not sure about the Muppet Show episode, but the song itself is old, from the late 1940s, I think. They mention it a couple of times on the tv show MASH.

  8. I don’t dislike Ragmop but he seems an odd-bod to have doing the cleaning and general labouring about the place. Seems he’s a bit of a blabber-mouth about anything and everything and doesn’t really appreciate the “need to know” rule that should apply to everything in the Agency.
He’s always given me the impression that he is a little eccentric, with the potential to be psychopathic – you know, the kind’ve person you can imagine might “go postal” one day.
A not so amusing version of Janitor in Scrubs.

    2. I agree, kiwismh. I even actually really like Raggmopp 🙂 There is a reason he is the janitor and not even a part-time civilian like Amanda in S1. He strikes me as someone who is not the sharpest knife in the drawer but reasonably capable of simple tasks.
