12/13 Season Three, Episode 02: We’re Off to See the Wizard- Scarecrow and Mrs King (Morley’s order: Episode 04)

Back to Amanda’s and seems she read Wizard of Oz most of the night and eventually drifted off to sleep on the couch! 3.02 WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD.avi_002170737
Jamie and Phillip come down stairs to find Amanda talking in her sleep on the sofa..
Amanda: Gotta get back to Oz. Toto. The Tin Man hasn’t got a heart.
3.02 WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD.avi_002176343Jamie: Moooom.
Amanda
mumbles: Hmmmm???
Jamie: Mom. Mom, you’ve been dreaming.

Amanda: Sussh Sweetheart, you’re going to wake me up. [too cute!]
C’mon Sweetie.
3.02 WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD.avi_002190156
Man.. Amanda looks really great considering she probably only napped a few hours and she just woke up!
Phillip and Jamie explain that Amanda was talking in her sleep about the tin man..
3.02 WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD.avi_002202168
Amanda gets up with a start and looks at an illustration in the book of Dorothy, Scarecrow, and tinman.. (is it just me or is that book suddenly smaller? or her hand larger? 😉 )
3.02 WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD.avi_002208174
Amanda says to herself: The Tin Man hasn’t got a heart.
Philip: Yes, he does…
3.02 WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD.avi_002209743Amanda making a realisation:
He’s heartless. Alright, look, you fellas get your own breakfast,
[lol umm why wouldn’t they usually?! what are they 4?!]
…and wake your grandmother up in 15 minutes.
Amanda takes off.. leaving the book with Jamie and Phillip..
Jamie: I gotta read that again! It must be better than I remember!
3.02 WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD.avi_002221688
Whoo hoo!!! Great to see SMK doing it’s bit to encourage kids to read Winking smile
3.02 WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD.avi_002226559
Nice to also see the boys not fighting- actually getting along.. and having a bit of a snuggle!

Moving on.. we are back at the ghost town airport.. the airport full of planes but zero people! Winking smile 3.02 WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD.avi_002227994

[Is this dodge city airport??- remember that episode? (Pop quiz! which one?!) will we see pop ups?? after all we have been seeing pop up 3.02 WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD.avi_002238505Dorothy!]
Lee shows up in his inconspicuous corvette (snigger!) but whooo another scene with the top down!! Winking smile

Whoa.. Lee’s got quite a shiner!!
3.02 WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD.avi_002248748Lee gets a big gun sling thingy out of the back of the corvette 3.02 WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD.avi_002256456and gets ready for action..putting it on his back. 3.02 WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD.avi_002260894

We cut back to Amanda arriving at the Q bureau – hmm does she have her own key?! Amanda seems to be sneaking and being quiet.. lol.. She walks over and sits at Lee’s desk and picks up a piece of paper that was laying there to read it. Okay, not a fan of the top.. but anything is better than the earlier nurses tunic!
3.02 WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD.avi_002274908Quick edit back to Lee finishing loading himself up with weapons of mass misguided destruction.. he heroically cocks his handgun..
3.02 WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD.avi_002275742
[I think that is written into his contract!]
and finally his leather (?) jacket..
3.02 WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD.avi_002292258

Lookin good Lee Winking smile He’s ready.. and fixin for a fight!
3.02 WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD.avi_002302769Back to Amanda.. and she’s found a print out of Phone surveillance – one print out is the phone message Paul left for Lee at his home.
3.02 WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD.avi_002302469
(okay, why would Lee have that on his desk? )
I would guess this is because Paul’s phone was tapped- but the heading says it is ‘telephone intercepts – Stetson, Lee’ between 11- 5 – sooo this means Lee’s phone line has been tapped – by who?! By Billy? (or is that by Francine ‘keeping an eye on him’ whahahaha) LOL that also means they have a transcript of Amanda’s call to Lee 😉

Check out the transcription.. haaa it’s slightly different.. in the actual message Paul said ‘sorry I had to take you out’. In the transcript- Paul says ‘sorry I had to wack you out’! whahahaahaaa! Yo that is wacked! Winking smile

Anyway, Amanda reads this.. knows they are going to meet at the airport…
3.02 WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD.avi_002319285
Amanda picks up the phone: Dispatch, this is Amanda King, I need to get an urgent message to Mr Melrose please.
Operator: I’ll need your clearance – green or above, authorisation, priority number.

Amanda:
This is life and death.
3.02 WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD.avi_002322288Operator: These are the rules. Destination, Security.
[Lame!!!]
3.02 WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD.avi_002327994Amanda: Uh, right, sorry Francine Desmond here, leaving a message for Amanda King. My security clearance is Green-13, this is Priority 1.

[Dumbest  operator ever!! Hi it’s Amanda King. I can’t leave a message? oh okay it’s Francine Desmond and I have clearance! whwhwhahaaa]
Operator: Yes
3.02 WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD.avi_002334300[Well this is utterly ridiculous! Funny in first season.. but ridiculous in 3rd season – someone please get Amanda Billy’s phone number Winking smile ] 3.02 WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD.avi_002346312
Amanda:
Would you please leave a message for Mr Melrose that Mrs King is on the way to Silver Springs Airport. It’s urgent.

3.02 WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD.avi_002349616
Next thing we hear the operator relaying a message to Billy who is driving..
Operator: Lee Stetson is probably meeting Paul Barnes there – time 0846, clearance Green-13. Message sent by Francine Desmond.
3.02 WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD.avi_002358024[Billy slams on the brakes and pulls over.. to reveal Francine is sitting right next to him, and clearly did not leave that message! BTW- Love Francine’s really bad wig in the wide shot! Smile ]
Billy: How did Amanda get your clearance?
3.02 WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD.avi_002359826[LOL that Billy immediately knows it was Amanda who left the message!! Smile but.. Lame!!! because you don’t have to have this conversation now!!! this is priority 1! So can we establish how Amanda left the flippin message later?! I can see they are trying to inject some humour here.. but for me.. it totally falls flat given the urgency.]
Francine: I, uh, I gave her my card to check addresses and data.
Billy: Well, it seems she’s found some other uses for it.
Francine: Yeah, it seems so.
3.02 WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD.avi_002367334Billy: Well,….. I’m glad, because…..(take your time Billy.. no hurry..) … we’re headed in the wrong direction. [yeah.. take your time there Billy.. noooo hurry.. it’s only priority 1. Hello!!! Here’s a hint- get Amanda her own clearance!!!]

Back to the airport.. and Lee is headed in the wrong direction also – after Paul!!! Get it over with already.. I’m losing my patience with this finale here.. is it just me?!
Paul: Scarecrow! [LOL Paul is back to calling Lee scarecrow.. haaa I guess that’s because he saw Lee suit up like he wants to kill him! Winking smile ]
3.02 WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD.avi_002386553
Lee has his handgun out.. and is taking cover behind the airplanes.. whooo he’s lookin mighty fine! [Even if he isn’t humming with mental health Winking smile ] Just look at that vinyl glowing in the sunshine Smile ahhhh I love the glow of vinyl on Lee in the morning (sunshine)!!! 😉
Lee: Barnes! You said you wanted to talk. You gonna show yourself or what?
3.02 WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD.avi_002393159Paul: We can talk like this. [lol can’t say I blame him!!]
Actually, I’m finding the only thing I like about this sequence is how good action man Lee looks in the outdoors.. Meh!
Lee: I’m learning a new side to Paul Barnes. The wizard is a coward! (Hilarious! I thought the coward was the Lion?! )
3.02 WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD.avi_002399766
[Aha!! so now he is Barnes and the wizard.. Lee can’t depersonalise Paul anymore than that!]
…Yeah, a burn-out gone soft in the head who’s started killing innocent women to prove he’s still a man.
[Wha? Ohhh dear.. I think Lee is sounding like a burn out whose gone soft in the head! I’ll just keep telling myself- it’s the trauma! it’s the trauma!!  Enough already.. time for Scarecrow to get his Doctor of Thinkology!!! Before he earns his Doctor of Idiocy!!]
Paul: I could put a bullet in you now but I won’t. I want you to understand.
3.02 WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD.avi_002422889
Ohhhh my gosh.. he looks dreamy! (focus iwsod!)
Lee (furious): I don’t think you’ve got the guts to kill me pal! That’s why you shot Pamela – and Cheryl.
3.02 WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD.avi_002434601[Soooo Paul killed all those other people, and knocked you unconscious last night, because he didn’t have the guts to kill you? Oh Lee.. you need a reality check pal! Quick!!! watching Scarecrow live up to his name is wearing very thin!!]
3.02 WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD.avi_002417484Lee starts to move around the airplanes.. yeah yeah.. get on with it!
Paul: The Tin Man is Serdeych! He went over to the Russians. They gave him the name.
[That’s interesting- it’s like you are connected to who gave you your name- and Paul gave Lee his codename.. hmm!]
So how did Paul learn that Tin Man is Serdeych?
Lee: What?! You are outta your mind!..
[Pot calling kettle Black!]
3.02 WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD.avi_002465231…Tin Man was blown to pieces the same day you shot Dorothy.
[ahhh sounds like Happy Camper’s theory on that was true! –see post 8 comments]
Uh oh!!! Seems Paul and Lee have a gatecrasher! Serdeych has shown up.. and is
3.02 WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD.avi_002468234pointing a gun at someone..

[I guess Paul called Lee to say lets meet at the airport and Serdeych who had bugged his room heard it? Soooo Serdeych decided to join in?? ]
Serdeych shoots at Lee’s feet
[– Oh I see.. Serdeych is trying to provoke Lee to shoot Paul.]
Lee just randomly shoots off a few in the direction the shot came from. LOL..
3.02 WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD.avi_002470637Paul: Lee! I didn’t fire that shot!
[He’s ‘Lee’ again! Things are really getting desperate now!]
We see Amanda pull up.. wow.. Magic!!! Only yesterday afternoon her car looked like this:
3.02 WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD.avi_001737170
whahahaa.. and this morning? Brand new.. 3.02 WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD.avi_002482649seems a mechanic somewhere in DC last night didn’t get much sleep either! Winking smile tee hee… her car was fixed super fast.. just look at that.. not a scratch! Winking smile Maybe Serdeych was kind enough to just hit the windshield and nothing else.. lol!
Amanda gets out of her car and looks around, she hears Lee sounding weary.
3.02 WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD.avi_002489856Lee: I’m getting tired of this.  [me too me too!!]
…I should have finished it years ago.  [No Lee this should never have started! Winking smile ]
3.02 WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD.avi_002498865Again, we see Lee with his handgun.. ready to fire.. that jaw muscle is workin overtime!
Lee finds Paul hiding on a plane wing. He sneaks up behind him and drags him off growling at him:…You’re Serdeych!
3.02 WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD.avi_002515982
[and you’re Brainless!]
3.02 WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD.avi_002516883…It doesn’t matter. You’re dead for Dorothy!
3.02 WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD.avi_002518385Oh man.. Lee’s hand is shaking like crazy.. he IS crazy IMHO right at this moment!!! He is out of control!  [randomly, I can’t help but notice in this pic the cuffs on Lee’s ‘leather jacket’ yuck!!!!]
Paul kicks Lee’s handgun out of his hand. Lee grabs Paul and slams him against the side of the plane.
[You know I adore Lee Stetson.. but.. this is beyond ridiculous.. Sorry I am making light of Lee here.. when he is going through a very traumatic time – his line about ‘you’re dead for Dorothy’ reminds us of what this is all about –
I do just think it’s been flogged to death (literally!). I want Scarecrow to get his phd in thinkology!!]
Paul: Then why would I want to bring Dorothy back to life and make you want to kill me? It’s Serdeych!
3.02 WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD.avi_002524391
(how does Paul know that? Maybe he has just logically figured it out – because he is still keeping his head, he isn’t the one who is burning out here!!!.. and lol he has a point!)
Lee: No, no – you’re Serdeych!
3.02 WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD.avi_002524991
[*iwsod bangs head on desk* I do believe Lee has truly taken on his codename’s persona!]
I’d say Paul is regretting accepting a ‘scarecrow’ into his network..the brainless are very dangerous in this business! 😉
Lee gives Paul a good thump and slams him to the ground. They fight.. Paul tries to go for Lee’s gun but Lee stops him..
3.02 WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD.avi_002538505We see Amanda is approaching them. Paul and Lee fight some more.. Amanda nearly stumbles on Paul rounding the corner, but quickly hides again..
Paul manages to get Lee’s handgun and was
3.02 WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD.avi_002553219about to shoot Lee (nothing else was gonna stop him!) and Lee gets the shotgun off his back and fires at Paul- chick chick boom!!
3.02 WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD.avi_002552904[We don’t see how Lee gets the gun off his back – he has a jacket over his sling thingy.. I guess he was able to get it from the bottom of his jacket?
3.02 WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD.avi_002556523
3.02 WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD.avi_002558231Amanda peeks around the corner, shocked that Lee has just shot Paul… 3.02 WE'RE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD.avi_002561628but is quickly distracted by something else.. but.. I better finish here for the moment! Smile

So.. what are you all making of Lee here?
I’d say he is the one who is close to burn out.. I find this difficult to watch! Anyone else? Lee has really been brought to a very very dark place in this episode!! Anyone else feel this Lee thinks Paul is Serdeych goes on too long?! meh.. there is an even bigger kerplunk in the next moments-coming up soon!
byeee for now!

  1. We know they tap the work lines because of another ep we haven’t seen yet. I think Paul left a message at both the office and at home for Lee just to be safe. And that the transcript is left for the agents to check and verify if they have anything they feel needs adding. (At least, I hope it’s only work lines they tap. Having the Agency record all your home calls would just be creepy)

  2. By the time I watched to this point, I was beginning to think Paul and Lee had hatched a plan together. Both of them just seemed so over-the-top from where they usually are. It was as if they were playing to an audience. Obviously, they are both emotionally in distress. They both since the climax here and that – added to all the emotions they’ve gone through in the last couple of days – would be enough to overcharge their actions. But professionally, neither of them seem the type to do this. That’s why I think there’s a bit of play-acting here on both their parts.

(My husband would interject that they are both actors, anyway, which would only produce a frown from me. Hey, I can believe these characters all I want, buster. 🙂 )

I’m sure Amanda knew there was a possibility she would find something on Lee’s desk to help her find out where he was. As to the transcriptions, I imagine this was part of Francine’s keeping an eye on things. She’s been doing research and hunting down all that information Billy keeps requesting, so she only had time to tap both his office and home phone. She knew Amanda would eventually follow Lee and keep him out of trouble. 😉

On another note – this is debilyn posting as debilyn13 now, with my lovely avatar provided by Iwsod. Thanks, Iwsod! I had to create a new account since it wouldn’t let me use my old one. Not sure why – probably a glich somewhere. (shrugs)

rofl.. I do love your husband’s comment – I just said something similar in the final post – only I noted that BB has played Lee acting before – so we know he can do it.. aie! makes the head hurt!

Yeah.. nice try with the transcriptions.. Francine’s keeping an eye on Lee.. so she left them on his desk? haaaa..

  3. Maybe the wizard whopper knocked some sense into Lee – y’know, jump started his brain like jumper leads on a car battery.
Regarding the Napoleon/Waterloo thing discussed in the last post, I always thought it was something to do with Lee finally surrendering his old ways, and that certainly is rammed home in this episode with the black books being exposed and Lee obvious shame/embarrassment.
However, since the sum total of my knowledge of Napoleon and Waterloo comes from the Abba song, I may be, and probably am, completely wrong. 😀 But checking on the lyrics they could may be apply to Lee as he journeys on from this episode. 😉 Check it out sisters!

    1. As one of the few people awake, I took the challenge and read the Abba lyrics – and they are startlingly appropriate (my knowledge of Napoleon is very hazy but I think Waterloo when he was defeated by Wellington having previously had major success taking over most of Europe). I suspect the song is more suitable than the battle. Is he finally surrendering to his old ways and putting them behind him? Is he surrendering to his past with Paul and Serdych? Is he in the process of finally surrendering to Amanda (has she “won the war” and his fate is “to be with you” (her)

      1. My take on it was that in Amanda he has met his match. He has been fighting his attraction to her since day one but his will to fight against what he feels and what she represents (normal life, family, commitment, love) has ebbed away over the last couple of years to the point where he is now ready (and happy) to surrender the fight.
Learjet – you, me and Iwsod might be the only ones not slumbering at the moment, so we’ll just have to wait and see what others think on this topic tomorrow. Of course, some might still be recovering from chocolate and red wine OD’s after the gratuitous eye candy in the last post 😉

        1. I see the song Waterloo was already more than 10 years old when this episode aired (but much closer than 1815!!) Can I admit here that I have an enduring fondess for Abba?
Come on , Lee, surrender to Amanda!

          1. I love ABBA!
I think Amanda is a Waterloo for Lee, in ABBA terms. I have no idea if the Napoleon/ Waterloo references are intentional or how they should be applied. Maybe Serdayich is Napoleon? Maybe we are supposed to wonder if it is Lee, or Paul? But I am not sure if this episode is so much about Lee and Amanda as getting some of the last vestiges of what was holding Lee back from going forward with Amanda out of the way.

            Like

            1. You’re right Morley. Maybe not the last vestiges but maybe he’s having a big clear out of most of the baggage he’s been toting around for years now.
Anyway, after a good night’s sleep I’m thinking there must be some relevance to the Napoleon pic and Waterloo battle (why set up a whole battle scene in Lee’s apartment for no reason?), and if there was some intention behind it then may be it is about some sort of showdown between Lee and his demons.

                1. I heard that Imagine Dragons song called “Demons” again yesterday. It really made me think of this episode. I posted it in the SMK music thread at Ned’s months ago if you want to take a listen.

    2. I LOVE Abba, especially Waterloo. Also a huge fan of the Napoleonic era so win win for me although. Napoleon didn’t actually surrender at Waterloo but let’s not split hairs about a fabulous song LOL

      1. Can you shed any light on this scene by telling us HOW Napoleon was defeated? Was it out-and-out combat loss, or betrayal, or ?? [And where DID he surrender?] 🙂

        1. Something that I found interesting about Waterloo was that it ended Napoleon 100 days of coming back into power. He had been exiled and then somehow came back to France and made himself emperor. It was also a combined force of British and Dutch units that finally took Napoleon out of the political scene, both for France and the rest of Europe, before that he had been messing around in Europe and no country could enjoy any peace. I think there could be correlations drawn between that and what Serdayich was doing with Paul and Lee. There could also be a bit of hint at a joint effort on the part of them both as well. More leaps from me 😉 These I would call a grand jete with arms in first position, he he 😉 (kind of like flying)

        2. LOL he surrendered at Rochefort where he was intending to flee to the US.
Napoleon was defeated by the combined British, Dutch/Belgian and Prussian military. A combination of factors of weather, poor communication and possibly overconfidence all contributed. It was a very close run thing but the British army held firm until the Prussians arrived.
Does that help at all? Confess I haven’t read the previous discussion yet, lagging behind again!

  4. Maybe the phone transcripts are something that is delivered daily, which is why Amanda knew to go to the Q Bureau to review them. Maybe there are times when the phones are tapped if there is an intense situation going on and they want to cover all the bases. I guess I’m just trying to fill in a plot hole.

Lee is packing a lot of firepower for this showdown. So many times these requisite action/fight scenes just go on for too long and are just so bad. All the other main Oz characters have gotten a mention so it was time for some sort of Cowardly Lion shout out.

Regardless of the situation, Lee is still very intense and emotional in this. The hand shaking was for sure out of control.

The one plot hole that bothers me the most is how Serdeych is able to have had access to so much information. It’s one thing to have bugged a room, but he somehow got a hold of Lee’s psych profile, and he has seemingly continued to stay just one step ahead of Lee and Paul, especially when using the Dorothy doppelgänger. Serdeych was definitely not a sit around baddie and have everyone else do his work. He certainly was busy and certainly got his hands dirty. No tea sipper here. In fact, he was just as focused on this vengeance track as Lee was about avenging Dorothy. But what makes him the most horrible is how many women he killed as he sought his vengeance.

  5. Every time I’ve seen it, this ep–especially this scene–has left me believing that Lee was acting… that he was toying with Paul to some extent in order to draw out Serdeych. (Reminds me of Burn Out.) He was certainly off-kilter over Dorothy, and over the top with suspicion of Paul, etc., but I think there was a lot of “method to his madness” (i.e., some of it was an act). But I’ll put the brakes on this train of thought here and wait for part 13…

    1. That’s a very dangerous game Lee is playing.. with Serdeych and with Paul – Paul almost shoots Lee with the handgun.. if it was an act – maybe he should have let Paul in on it somehow! But nooooo can’t do that.. ugh..
Sorry this action finale really bugs me.. but I’m sure I’ll be finding the ep wonderful again by the time we get to the tag!
Yeah sorry.. with better planning I would have done the action finale in one post so we could discuss how it pans out – my bad!!!

          2. Iwsod, I thought the discussion about Napoleon and Waterloo (started in the last post) was on topic and relevant to this post and the last one as we are trying to figure out what, if any, relevance the pic in the Q-Bureau and the board set up in Lee’s apartment have to this story, Lee’s journey and where Lee and Amanda’s relationship is at present.
I guess we needed to know a little bit about what the history is to see if it does have any relevance to this episode. ❓

            1. No one said anything not relevant to the idea for the episode I agree kiwismh – I was asking if the conversation continued in more depth that it head over to Neds.
Eventually it gets to a point where it’s like- yeah if we want to fully explore the detail of Napoleon lets start a thread about it – I even started a thread on Wizard of Oz at Neds when the references are overt in the episode- it was obvious that this was a connection to this plot.
Napoleon? while you guys may find it gives you meaning – it’s (IMHO) a little obscure. Worth talking about? Sure! Anything is if you think it is! I don’t dictate this…
but for discussing in more detail? better to head over to Neds.
I hope that clarifies my thinking.

Wrestling with wordpress has left me needing to sign off and get some sunshine.. I’m signing out..

              1. Replying to myself to add.. sorry I should have been clearer in the first comment about moving to neds.
I realise you are wondering when do I need to move to Neds? when don’t I?
There is no way I can give a clear cut answer when something is possibly mentioned in an episode – it sort of depends on how much demand there is on JWWM to discuss it.. and how long the conversation goes on.. and to what depth.
So I basically guess half the time – whooo there might be discussion on get smart if I post this ink blot stuff – but JWWM isn’t the best place to discuss ink blots or get smart. lol.. so I started a neds thread. It is not a precise science lol.. and so I don’t expect people will always make the same judgement call as me.
Any suggestions for how we could deal with this better? I’m open to it. I don’t like to create frustration or confusion in others (lol or myself).
Okay, now I am really heading out into the sunshine to get some warmth!

  6. The fact that Lee has a transcription of his own phone messages on his desk is interesting too. Ok, so I am the one who tries not to find fault with TPTB and smooths out continuity errors and leaps over the plot holes (hey, I am a dancer). Maybe the transcription is there for a reason, Maybe Lee knew about it, maybe it is part of a plan??? Maybe???

    1. Lovely self awareness there Morley 😉 tee hee.

it’s not explained.. but just a plot device – I don’t think Lee would have wanted Amanda anywhere near the airport – Serdeych had already tried to (supposedly ) kill her once..

I think Ragmop put the transcript there.. because he thought Lee had been ‘deflowered’ the same time and place as Paul and that worried him.. whahahaha

      1. Oh, I like the Ragmop idea :D. Maybe Ragmop is really Blue Leader and knows everything that is going on at every level of the Agency… or something like that. See, I can leap over plot hole and canyons beautifully, he he

  7. The transition from the last scene where Paul whacked Lee to this scene (and the next) makes for good TV but doesn’t really make sense to me overall. How does Serdeych always know where Paul (and Lee) are going to be – must have the phone tapped. Which raises other questions. Maybe I need to go back and watch this again – I transcribed it and it still doesn’t make sense for Pete’s sake! Oh well, I might have to start watching again from the scene at Lee’s apartment and try to focus on the storyline this time. 😉 Focus, focus, focus…. 😯 must not get side-tracked by the eye candy, must not…

    1. I agree kiwismh. I find the whole set up plain dumb! A big plot device..

Serdeych knows where Lee and Paul are meeting, I guessed, because Serdeych had Paul’s room bugged. And Paul called Lee’s home to leave a message to say meet you where we were deflowered- Serdeych would understand the meaning of this when he heard it also.

Noooo do get side-tracked by the eye candy 😉 it’s the best bit of this finale!! 🙂

    2. We know Serdeych has Paul’s apartment bugged, so I suppose he heard Paul make the call in the first place. Still don’t know how Lee got back into his own apartment. I can’t see Paul waiting until he woke up (the phone message sounds like it’s the first contact they’ve had since the knockout) and I can’t see Paul leaving an unconscious Lee vulnerable to danger. As a side note, I wonder if the whacker was just an ordinary baton, or some kind of stun thingie?

I’m not at all happy with Lee here — how do you spell “circumstantial evidence”? He’s really come full circle since the days he prided himself on detachment and not caring! “It doesn’t matter” whether Paul is Serdeych, Lee’s going to shoot him anyway? Sounds like Lee really does blame Paul for Dorothy’s death.

Iwsod, I also was wondering how Lee got that big gun off his back. It showed up in his hand almost like magic.

  8. This scene used to confuse me, but now I think this scene is all an act. That is why I think there is something missing earlier. Just a feeling right now. Maybe the feeling will become more developed as we walk a little bit further.
But I will say that it was Lee’s little smile at Amanda’s voice in the earlier scene that made me start to think that he wasn’t completely unhinged here.I think if he was going totally burn out here, he wouldn’t have been able to go there when he heard her voice. It is just a feeling I have basically.

    1. eek this is hard to discuss without finishing the scene huh! I’ve been naughty! Hmm maybe I should just publish the final post tomorrow!

I will say – I’ve written about the episode not looking ahead to what happens and actually not remembering what happens -soooo pls just keep this in mind 🙂

So at this point of the show, were you all already believing this was an act? I can’t see any clue that it is. And.. I think the writers have done this on purpose.
[will reserve my ranting about this till the next post]
The lovely smile at Amanda didn’t sway me- I just figured the guy compartmentalises 🙂
Just a feeling Morley? that strong huh! (Remember what ep that was?! 🙂 )

      1. I never thought it was an act — I still can’t see it. Although morley is helping me visualize that it if it were set up between Paul and Lee, Paul’s phone call would have been aimed at Serdeych, to lure him out — but then, they knew that Paul’s apartment was bugged? And after they figured out that Serdeych wanted to use Lee to get at Paul, they still counted on him showing up himself? And, if they were expecting to tackle Serdeych, why did Lee shoot Paul? Wouldn’t he want help, since they came without backup? I guess the fact that Lee is wearing a bulletproof vest — before he listens to Paul’s message — shows he expects to go into action. When in doubt, blame the writers. But I think most of the emotional impact of the scene goes away if we are to assume that it’s an act.

I think I can still believe that Lee went out there not knowing whether Paul was Serdeych. I might be able to think that he exaggerated his emotions, in an attempt to find out what Paul would say or do.

        1. Yes, Happycamper, that is how I view that phone call. Actually, I think Lee uses the irrational emotions he was having to inform his dialouge here. But I do think that the logical arguements that Paul used when he came across Lee in his apartment probably had touched Lee’s professional side and registered in his confused brain. I think they did help him to think like a professional and put his emotions aside. However having to go through a scenario (that is how I view this scene) like this would have been very difficult, although, I wonder if it was also cathartic in a way?

      2. That was on the bridge in AABH. And, hey, Amanda was right… about a lot of things there on that bridge 😉

Like I said, this scene confused me at first, but it just seemed so out of character. I know Lee wasn’t “exactly humming with mental health”, but I just started believing less and less that this was real emotion and reaction and I started to suspect that something was up.
I guess I can explain more in the next post. But for here, yup, I have a feeling. There is just something “in his eyes” (and in that smile) that says he isn’t completely unhinged. 😉
