We cut back to Daisy and Canaan on the rooftop, Daisy now has out a laptop and is typing away..

This woman is a super baddie!! Trust a woman to have so many top skills Winking smile I like the equal opportunity baddies haaaaaa.. then again, woman baddies seem to be exceptional in order to qualify as baddies.. Male baddies can be totally mediocre and make the grade..

Back to Amanda’s car.. Billy’s on the radio, Amanda’s looking at the map.
Billy:  Keep us posted, Scarecrow.  It’s 9:23.
[Yep.. this sequence has gone on way too long!]

Canaan:  That’s early.  So unlike the Swiss. [lol I’m worried.. I was thinking the same thing as Canaan!!]

We see a close up of the computer screen.. lol.. Good Day!!! Is it really naughty that I don’t feel a pang about someone stealing from a bank?!!! ugh.

why is Canaan smiling?! rofl!!! He looks gleeful!! it’s like the actor is thinking ha haaa! I get paid to dress up and run with a gun: best job ever!! He looks to me to be laughing! lol!!!

Sooooo what do you all make of this scenic tour of Washington DC?! Action Lee? Why does Daisy make a run for it??

  1. Just as there is no honesty amongst thieves there is no loyalty amongst baddies. Daisy went from dispatching to dashing, she is doing the Daisy Dash now.

    There’s been a continual mention of time and clocks in the ep. Aren’t the Swiss also known for clock making as well? So much easier to be distracted by other things than focus on the lackluster aspects of this episode.

      hope you don’t mind.. I put out these final posts a bit faster because.. well.. they 13 and 14 are not really riveting stuff 😉

      oh so glad you mentioned the clocks/ time theme that is going on throughout – it does seem to be pretty constant -maybe.. the point of it all was that loyalty to friends is what matters – for the time that we have on this earth? and the time we are given to live?

  2. According to the script the dust and wind from the helicopter made it impossible for “the guards” to get a clear shot at Lee (or the helicopter, since in the script Lee is flying the helicopter). The helicopter is hit.
    While all this is happening Canaan is continuing to work on the computer to make the transfers happen. The guards apparently decide to abandon Canaan, and Canaan then picks up one of their guns to try and shoot Lee as he makes “a rocky violent landing”.
    Then…
    EXT. STREET – FEATURING BILLY AND AMANDA – DAY
    Reacting as they see the helicopter disappear behind the roofline.
    AMANDA : Mr Melrose, he’s gone down!
    Billy shakes his head. He’s worried..
    BILLY : Get in the car, Amanda… we’re going to have some company in a
    few seconds.
    Amanda can’t take her eyes of the roof of the building.
    BILLY (continuing) : Amanda, get in the car! There’s nothing we can do…
    Amanda reluctantly climbs back into the wagon.

    The two guards followed by Canaan and Daisy are confronted by Billy on the base of the building. Lee is in hot pursuit and takes down Canaan. Billy takes out the guards. And Daisy?
    Daisy kicks off her high heels and hot foots it in the other direction (from Canaan).
    Daisy runs down the sidewalk directly towards Amanda’s car. At just the right moment, Amanda flings open the door of the station wagon and Daisy hits it going full speed, collapsing on the ground, gasping for breath.

  3. Yes, BJo, but Billy did have to tell her twice to get in the car. She’s only a little more behaved for Billy. 😉

    No wonder it took so long for Lee to find Canaan, Daisy, et al. He was looking for them in DC and they were on a rooftop in California!

  4. Is it just me or does that laptop screen look like a very early version of Microsoft Word (or whatever it was called before it was “Word”). Good promotion for Microsoft if you freeze the screen at this moment, but then in 1986 no one was routinely and frequently “freezing the screen” like we do now. It was hard to get a good freeze frame on the old video tape. 😉

    1. I remember WordPerfect and WordStar from the old DOS days. I didn’t use either one of them enough at the time to recognize if this screen is one of those applications.

      1. The only one I remember was Eight In One and it’s not that. Oh and we had another one before that we had to use floppy discs for and it let you use passwords with the old asterisk that looked like some kind of bug. I can’t remember the name, but the screen doesn’t look right for that either.

        My stepfather let me use an archaic laptop in 1990 one evening, and that had a different look, but I can’t even remember that screen anymore since I only used it once.

  5. ROFL, this action scene is WAY unbelievable. I thought the same thing about Lee coming down the rope, giving them every opportunity to shoot him. I like BJo’s comment about why Daisy made a run for it. As a matter of fact, it fits right in with smk’s usual portrayal of good guys and bad guys: good guys are loyal, stick up for each other, risk their lives for each other, while bad guys (don’t anyone get upset — “guys” is gender-neutral where I live) are self-seeking and only concerned about their own hide when all is said and done. I especially liked the insight that Canaan will get rid of Daisy when she’s no longer useful; that gives context to her running out on him here.

    1. Good point about loyal good guys vs. bad guys who aren’t. I’m mentally adding that to my list of “things I hope our son subconsciously absorbs from SMK” — along with “the good guys win in the end” and “always open car doors for ladies”. 🙂 Is there an “Everything I need to know I learned from SMK” list somewhere?

      I wonder if we can think of a baddie who has been loyal to his boss.. hmm.. no idea…but I do think it is very one dimensional to have all baddies be loyal to no one. Even a baddie can be loyal to someone – if it is something to believe in.. I think we’ve seen a few baddies with a cause- but when it comes down to getting more money as the cause? well.. there is no honour among thieves huh!
      Maybe in future eps we will see this I don’t remember. interesting idea though! byeee

  6. IWSOD – your ‘narky commentary on this lame-o sequence makes it totally worth it for me!
    I remember thinking as Daisy made a run for it that I was hoping she escapes and maybe meets up with our dynamic duo at another time.
    The one thing I did appreciate about this episode is it showed Billy as a pretty kick butt agent in his own right rather than just a ‘suit’.

  7. Oh gosh, more mismatched aerial positioning with what Lee is saying. He’s back in the SW quadrant in that cap with the Capitol in it. Oh well, at least it’s in the right part of the country, and not California. And I don’t think there is a Potomac Park – at least not in the NW quadrant of DC. There is a Potomac Parkway though.

    Yup, you got that right, iwsod. A woman has to be twice as good as a man to be considered equal. Especially in the 80’s. Daisy’s got the chops though, that’s for sure! Zorbel must have been the token blonde in the group.

    Haha! Love how Amanda DOES what she’s told. She gets in the car. Maybe she’s better behaved for the “boss”.

    And I think Daisy makes a run for it because she’s smart – she’d rather escape than go down fighting with Canaan. She knows he’ll dispatch with her once he has no more use for her.
