4/20 Season Three, Episode 10:Flight to Freedom-Scarecrow and Mrs King

Moving on to a Marina, we see a boat called ‘Endeavor’. Oh by the way – Thanks again to Jule for transcribing this part of the episode!!! This is a huge help!!!
FTF.avi_000599366
We cut to inside the boat and ta daaaaaa! Bart is alive everyone!! it’s a MIRACLE!!!! FTF.avi_000604170[
trying to get myself into the headspace of watching this not knowing what’s ahead! lol.. ] So Colleen was right after all.. hooray!
Bart is sitting inside the boat.. uh oh.. looks like they’ve been feeding him KFC.. Oh noooo Bart it will be a miracle if you live to an old age eating that! Winking smile
JJ:   You’re just going to have to be patient Bart. 24 hours.
FTF.avi_000608441Bart:   JJ, don’t you understand Colleen thinks I’m dead. I just want to get her out of that hell.
[Good man Bart!]
FTF.avi_000615382JJ: Harcourt thinks you’re dead too. And it’s better for all of us if he keeps thinking that.
FTF.avi_000617517Bart:   He’s not going to find us here.
FTF.avi_000618585JJ:   One more day Bart, one more day and you can finish Harcourt….
[Oh? so Bart is suppose to go to the hearing tomorrow?]
…Look we’re all at risk here. Everybody’s FTF.avi_000623923who’s helping you. Take that into consideration. [True and good to know.. but.. not really helping Bart to know that!]
FTF.avi_000630864Bart:   I am, I am! Can’t you do something? Get your people to ask some questions?…
FTF.avi_000636202…Another day of this, I’m going to go out of my mind.
JJ:   Alright I’ll try, I’ll try.

FTF.avi_000642609Bart really seems to be at his wit’s end here.. super stressed and just about ready to quit. JJ’s promise to try appeases Bart.. but only a little.. Harcourt sounds pretty ruthless.. Makes me wonder if that stray mortar round was really a stray after all.. if you know what I mean!

Bart seems to be wearing the same uniform he had on in Santarilla.. what were his injuries? He seems no worse for wear, other than his emotional distress here.. I guess it was 2 weeks ago.. but still.. it was a bomb that landed on him wasn’t it?!
It’s interesting, here is Bart, reliant on JJ and unable to do anything for himself because he is hiding out.. his frustrations are boiling over.. Colleen was in exactly the same situation – because of her blindness she is reliant on Lee  and is unable to do anything to help Bart herself. Her frustrations are boiling over also. Even when they are apart- these two are totally in sync!

Next thing, we see Ambassador Harcourt being questioned by reporters..
FTF.avi_000654888Reporter: Ambassadorial Harcourt, You weren’t asked to testify before this committee. Why did you demand to be heard?
Ambassador Harcourt:   I value the truth.
FTF.avi_000655955
[Doesn’t this guy make you want to gag?! Can’t wait for Lee to take him down!! – with Colleen, Bart and Amanda.. of course! Smile ]
Second reporter (We see Amanda and Colleen arrive in the background): then what about rumours Senator Rattigan has a surprise witness for tomorrow?
FTF.avi_000660226
[Why doesn’t she hold her own microphone?! that’s a bit weird.. oh noooo seems the secret has escaped a little! this isn’t good!]
Ambassador Harcourt :   You fellas know more about rumors that I do.FTF.avi_000662896

[Fella’s? there are women there.. get with it Harcourt! this is the 80s! Smile ]
Second reporter: Then what do you know about rumors about  widespread political corruption in Santarilla including  kickbacks, bribes to US officials?
FTF.avi_000664497Harcourt: Not one bit of evidence has been brought forward to substantiate those allegations.

FTF.avi_000673573
[lol love how he doesn’t say they are not true!]
Colleen interjects yelling to everyone:
There will be!!!…
FTF.avi_000676242
…And when it is, the world is gonna know men like you have nearly destroyed Santarilla.
FTF.avi_000678912
(We see Amanda looking a bit shocked here.. lol.. what can she do?!)
FTF.avi_000681047
…I was in Santarilla!! Millions of dollars went straight into the pockets of Sanchez FTF.avi_000684784and this man.
The Swiss Bank accounts, the 10,000 acre cattle ranch. Explain those ambassador….
FTF.avi_000690123
(We see Lee arriving in the background..)
FTF.avi_000692258 …You’re not going to get away with this anymore Harcourt.
Oh noooo Colleen has given away too much! it was probably not a good idea to take Colleen anywhere near Harcourt in her emotional situation.. but then Amanda didn’t even know who Harcourt was..
FTF.avi_000694928Lee comes running up behind Colleen, he flashes his ID at the press…

FTF.avi_000697597
and gathers up Colleen, leading her into the hearing without further ado.
Lee:  Uh, Colleen please, come on, let’s get you inside.
As they make their way into the hearing we can hear Colleen gather herself and respond: Sorry, I’m sorta disconnected.
FTF.avi_000703470Lee:  I know, I know.

Colleen knows she’s done something unwise here, but everyone can understand why.
So great that Lee doesn’t get angry with her, or Amanda.. he has patience Smile
At the entrance, Lee turns to the press and pleads: Ah fellas, give us room will ya come on!
He seems to still be showing his ID.. Fellas? again? but there are women there! I thought fellas was not including women.. anyone?

Back at the Marina, and Bart is seen taking a few puffs from his inhaler.. he seems to be still upset.. FTF.avi_000716282

JJ: Your asthma  still bothering you?
Bart: Yeah.
[Bart seems down..]
JJ: Look we tried asking questions about your fiancé. I guess we’ll have to go to Transworld next but it’s risky, they’ll ask questions.
Hey, JJ has changed his shirt… (and Bart seems to be in uniform!) – is this the next day? JJ did say he was testifying the next day – and he is not at the hearing being held now.. sooooo Wardrobe people!!! what’s going on?!! [he spill some KFC grease on his other top and have to change it? Winking smile ]
FTF.avi_000721621Bart: That came in with the fish and chips (he hands JJ a newspaper)
FTF.avi_000737637
We see an article stating that both Bart and Colleen were missing.
JJ: It’s two weeks old.
Bart: You could spare the effort. She’s dead.
Ah Bart! you are still alive!!! the article got it wrong about Bart!! so maybe they got it wrong about Colleen too!!!! Hmm.. I suspect Colleen is the brains in this partnership Winking smile
Kidding.. I know Bart is stretched to the limit here and is nothing thinking clearly.

FTF.avi_000739773JJ: This must’ve come out while we were still self sailing. We couldn’t know. I’m sorry  Bart.

FTF.avi_000741908JJ seems like a genuine guy..
Anyway, back to the hearings again.. where Lee and Amanda assist Colleen with exiting the building and navigating the stairs.
Oh wait!!! I think that is not a skirt Colleen is wearing, it’s pants! Like what Francine had on earlier!!!! gah!!!
FTF.avi_000758992
So Umm.. is this all in the same day? Did Amanda meet Colleen and then go to the hearing? because.. she’s changed her clothes.. Colleen has too! and I’m not sure why.. not dressy enough for a hearing? Just like with JJ too!..
FTF.avi_000760593Actually, Lee seems to be wearing black pants – and at the convalescent home he had grey pants.. soooo I think this might be the second day.. or.. we have a bunch of  unexplained wardrobe changes!
Amanda: Are you all right?
Colleen: Tomorrow is the last day of the hearings. I can’t believe he wasn’t here. He’ll be here tomorrow I know it.
FTF.avi_000761661Lee: Yeah.
Amanda: We’ll come back.
Lee: Yeah, we’re going to find him Colleen, but you can’t let the whole world in on it, alright?
FTF.avi_000764330Colleen: I want to do something.
FTF.avi_000764864Lee: I know you want to do something.
[It’s like it was with Bart – Just one more day Colleen!! hang in there! Bless him, Lee is very patient with Colleen.. Lee your slightly dismissive attitude yesterday has been completely forgiven Smile]
Lee: Let’s just take you home.
FTF.avi_000773406Amanda: Come on, let’s go. Step down.

They again help Colleen navigate her way..
FTF.avi_000776076Both Lee and Amanda are being patient with Colleen.. awh!

The scene switches to Lee and Amanda exiting the convalescent home.. Holding Hands!!!!!!!! For no good reason!!!!! Not playing a cover!!!!!
FTF.avi_000785685
I tend to see this as Amanda offering support to Lee – he’s going through a tough time as his friends Bart and Colleen go through these traumatic events.. And Lee? he seeks and welcomes this comfort.. whatever the reason? it’s flippin fabulous isn’t it!!!
We only saw hand holding briefly in Sour grapes, but here? we see it for quite a sustained length of time.. hooray!!! this is progress!
FTF.avi_000788355
Lee: Well that’s Colleen Donnelly for you, act first and think later… [So sweet that he shares this frustration with Amanda once they are alone, he kept this to himself when with Colleen and was patient with her – more evidence for Amanda that this is a man she can trust with her heart Smile] ..Ahhh.
FTF.avi_000789889They finally stop holding hands,…
FTF.avi_000791691
as they have to go to either side of the car Smile
FTF.avi_000792192Lee and Amanda get in the car.. and we cut to a wide shot of the vette travelling down a highway.
FTF.avi_000804371
We hear Lee add:  If she’ll stay put… [she’s blind. of course she is staying put. the only reason she went to the hearing was because you took her!] …maybe well have some luck at finding La Gaviotta. I know a salty old dog who hangs around the river. If anybody would know that boat, he would.

Oh noooo more ghastly dialogue for Lee!!! I think we didn’t see his face when he said this because he was either trying not to gag or he was resisting hysterical laughter.. take your saltypick! Salty old dog?! the only Salty I know is the train in Thomas the tank engine matey! lol.. Funny Lee decides to check one of his sources about the boat – I think Lee had checked all his sources. Seems he hadn’t checked every possibility.. but.. he is now! Once he gets on board (get it?!) he’s totally on board.. Ahoy!

Smile What do you make of these scenes? What’s going on with this handholding business? to me, this says this ep is not before any other ep we’ve seen so far.. even after Sour Grapes.. I can imagine all the Squeeeees that were coming from living rooms the night this episode aired, and this moment exiting the home was aired!!!
Would love to hear your ideas on anything we’ve covered so far!! your gripes.. your fave moments.. you questions.. whatever you like! byeee

  1. Oh that wonderful hand holding! Yes it came as a delightful surprise but what made it even better was when they had to let go to walk around the car and they held on until the last possible moment!!!! contented sigh Whether it was there to be of comfort or to be romantic, that little gesture got a whole bunch of women all a-flutter, 35+ year later!!! That is one.big.swoon. ❤️

  2. While I get that hand holding can be a comforting thing- I think they are walking too fast for it to be Amanda comforting lee. Instead I think it is second nature now, and while it is the first time for us to see this second nature interaction, I think it’s placement here is to show the progression of their relationship. I’m almost caught up to you guys!

  3. I do see this hand-holding as natural. Both as a comfort measure for Lee and, in some way, a small step forward in their relationship. I’ve shared before that I think they have been spending more time together outside of work. For Lee, these dates are chances to explore his feelings for Amanda and hers for him. For Amanda, these evenings were special times to relax with Lee. She wasn’t ready to call them dates because she’d left behind those hopes some time ago. Now she and Lee are on the same page (after Spencers). I see this as happening a few weeks after JEG. They’ve had a few more dates and this moment of hand-holding is an outgrowth of those evenings. I think they are both cautiously, but seriously moving their relationship forward and are finally in sync with where they are.

      1. I think they aren’t quite sure they’re in sync. They see signs, but aren’t sure how to interpret them, mainly because they’ve been out of sync for so long.

  4. A Happy New Year to everyone !
I’ve just returned from extended Christmas Vacation.

And I would like to through my 2 cents in regarding Amanda’s outfit.

IWSOD, do you remember our investigations on Amanda’s cloth on Nedlindgers?

This is the outfit she wore during the Joan Rivers interview, where she said it is her Birthday and that they had a celebration during the day on the set. Maybe this explains the change in cloth of the whole cast and also the hand holding :). I think I also remember that we won’t see this outfit again on Amanda.

    1. Yes MarA! So glad you reminded me of this.. – such fun!!!

hmm could it explain the chat of clothes of the whole cast? It might explain it for KJ, but how does it explain everyone else?

      1. Well, in my mind they were all celebrating the whole day and having such a good time, that they forgot to chance cloth for their scenes… but on the other hand it is very unlikely that they were shooting all these scences on the same day…. anyhow I like the picture in my head seeing them celebrating together the whole day..

  5. There was sustained handholding in season two in the second episode , I think it was ,when they were in Munich. Lee caught Amanda in a revolving door and grabbed her by the hand and walked her away from the building to the car. Only in this case the handholding was of a different nature. I think Lee was feeling possessive and irritated ,and was pulling her along to get her alone to interrogate her, rather than holding her hand for comfort like we see in this current episode.

      1. Of course… in jest. It’s a bit of fun. The term I think was coined by a New Zealand Maori comedian, Billy T James back in the 1980’s.
I said it to my colleagues when I left work yesterday afternoon – “I’ll see yous fellas and felleses tomorrow.”
        “yous” is another NZ slang.

  6. Bart and Colleen both seem to me to be a bit pathetic in these scenes – Bart especially. Pull yourself together man – it’s just one more day!
I think they are supposed to be a metaphor for L&A’s future relationship – two people who can’t live without each other… soul mates… whatever.
I must be a grumpy-puss today because B&C are just irritating me. 😦

Love that long hand hold by L&A though. They have always connected physically I small ways so I think this more purposeful, comforting, long-lasting hand holding is meant to illustrate how much closer they have become both emotionally and physically, and how comfortable they both are now with this level of emotional and physical connectedness.

    1. I also find Bart a bit pathetic here – and wonder why he’s so easily convinced that Colleen is dead. But maybe this is because he is a man of action and doesn’t cope well at all when he’s unable to physically do something to improve his situation (I should know – I live with one….).
And Bart – bad asthma pump technique – don’t think those airways would get much effect that way.
I do find baddie-turned-good-guy Bart quite cute though, esp if he had a hair trim.

  7. I had pants like Colleen is wearing in this scene, and I hate to admit it I had woollen vests like the one she is wearing too. Having said that, it was the style of the time and we all thought we looked fashionable.
I’m not really enjoying that Harlequin sweater that Amanda is wearing. Let us hope we see no more of it after this episode. The style and fit of the sweater is ok, but I fear that Aunt Lillian is expanding her knitting skills into colour-work and is using Amanda as her model… again :/

            1. Hi Melissa! Yes we discussed this over at Nedlindgers – turns out the date on the youtube video is incorrect..
There was a bit of detective work about this and other clothes of Amanda’s that KJ wore in public.. eek.. even the pink pyjamas from Mr Brand!!!) See HERE for the thread at Nedlindger’s – we went investigating looking for when KJ had worn the same clothes as Amanda.. it was a lot of fun! check it out!

    2. Yep, agree, KC. Colleen’s wardrobe is better than Amanda’s here. I wouldn’t wear it today, but I’m sure I had something in my wardrobe that looked like what Colleen was wearing.

  8. When I was a kid I remember the term “old salt” referring to a long-time sailor, i.e. someone who had been boating/sailing or in the naval service for a long time, or a very experienced sailor. Maybe it’s a British term more than an Americanism.

    Like

    1. Yes, “old salt” has been used quite a bit to refer to long-time sailors. It was used in some movies in the 40’s and 50’s, too, I believe.

  9. Well, Colleen’s choice in clothes can be forgiven because she is still quite vision impaired. I am not sure what Francine’s excuse was. My daughters are still laughing hysterically at those pants (I can’t believe those were pants made of that material — there should be a law against such atrocity!)

  10. I was going to say the same thing about the color coordination, Morley. It seems to be happening more and more. And I am loving the hand holding as well. I like how they don’t just let go as they head to separate sides of the car. They sort of hang on until the last possible moment. It’s almost as if they don’t really want to let go.

Lee has been so closed off that it’s so refreshing to see him opening up and becoming more understanding and sympathetic. It is something that makes him even more swoon-worthy. His growth and change, while slow and gradual, has been so meaningful and poignant. Amanda remains a bit of a conundrum.

And Morley, I like what you say about how they have taken their time to build and establish a friendship that has led them on this path. They didn’t just jump into anything. They couldn’t have or it wouldn’t have any lasting or staying power. This is what makes their story so wonderful and timeless.

One comment about Lee’s salty old dog reference. Usually when I hear salty I think of gruff and in reference to a sailor his language being pretty salty. There’s even an idiom about ‘cussing like a sailor’. It makes me think of Spencer Tracey in “The Old Man and The Sea”.

  11. Ok, first of all, how great is it to see a Thomas train in an SMK post? Awesome! Two of my favorites in one place.

In response to janetpc (hi janetpc): This is what I find so captivating about the Lee and Amanda story. In so many other movies and shows and even in real life, couples throw themselves at each other physically and then explore the extent of their care, commitment and love for each other afterwards. Lee and Amanda move so slowly and yet I do think they are very aware of what they are building (actually, I think Lee may be further along with this than Amanda is at this point). I actually think they are way farther along emotionally than they are physically. I don’t think they have communicated with each other much verbally about what they are discovering because of various fears and hang ups they both still have, but I do think they are slowly reaching out to each other. Hand holding is a great next step.
I do think the steady progression of their relationship has a few more stops and starts ahead of them and so as we think about the big picture this may look out of place. But as of right now, with out looking ahead (I won’t, I promise) this hand holding is nice.

They must have had a nice dinner together at Spencer’s. And I agree this is Amanda being sensitive that this is a bit more than an assignment for Lee with some undertones that are hitting him on a personal level and she is offering comfort and he is soaking it all up. They are a team, they are friends and they are connecting at an even deeper level. I wonder if their conversation on the Lambeth Pier is echoing loudly in their ears. People who care about each other touch each other, they hold hands…?

    1. Enjoyed reading your thoughts here Morley! Yes I think after Amanda’s little ‘not exactly’ a lot has gone unsaid between them.. so far, it hasn’t needed to be said.. and I’m thinking when Amanda said that when you are talking about love you have to be patient – that was aimed at the audience! 🙂

I very much appreciate how the show takes it’s time.. and isn’t all UST and then pow! they’re together.. and then.. pow!!! they’ve had a fight! you know? it’s what makes smk timeless, and still enjoyable to watch after 30 years. the love story gets us from the first time to I do (and beyond) with great nuance – and seems to (IMHO) build a genuine healthy relationship between Lee and Amanda 🙂 don’t see that on tv very often!
[If we do see healthy on tv- the show has them already married when the show starts!]

how does everyone else see Lee and Amanda right now??

Ah loved how you recalled the conversation by Lambeth Pier – these two touch each other a lot!!! 🙂 Good call!!

    2. I hear what you’re saying, Morley, and while conceptually I can understand it, it doesn’t compute for me. This handhold seems random to me. Friends, even good friends, don’t hold hands like this. At least I don’t or wouldn’t. But I also don’t have any males that I would say are my friends. But I am me and I realize other people behave differently. To me, hand holding is about more than friendship, it is about the beginning of romance and love. I think that is why I have a hard time reconciling it with where I think these two are in their relationship – at least in terms of admitting it to themselves and each other. I am looking forward to seeing how you handle this in your stories!

      1. I wonder if their hands accidentally bumped into each other and Lee or Amanda just went for it? Sort of an unexpected surprise? It would be a first for them, I think to just hold hands for no reason like this as iwsod, says in the post. I haven’t watched this episode in a very long time, so I’m curious to see what else is in store for us.

      2. I’m with you, BJo and Janetpc:
        1) I don’t have “real” male friends (I hold with the “When Harry Met Sally” premise)
        2) I can’t imagine holding hands whether anyone except someone I was romantically involved in or one of my kids
…and holding hands with a work colleague? If one of my male work colleagues tried to hold hands with me, I’d freak out.

        2. Yes, I can’t say as I would want to hold hands with any of my work colleagues… but then none of them look like Lee Stetson. I think that fact might make a difference to my rule on physical contact with work colleagues. 😉
Maybe it’s an American thing. We’re not so touchy, feely here in NZ but I think the younger generation might be moreso. I’m always conscious of my “personal space” being invaded and will automatically step away from anyone who gets too close, even someone I know well (which seldom happens as most people have the same awareness about their own personal space).
This could be a trait of the more British-based upbringing we had. Keep your distance, don’t show any emotion, stiff upper lip, and all that.

Ok, you got me there, kiwismh – LOL! I might have to make an exception to the rule for Lee.

I don’t think us Americans particularly are touchy feely either – at least not more so than any other nationality. One of my brothers-in-law is from the Dominican Republic and I think he and his family are very touch feely. I have a large personal space boundary that I do not like other people entering either. Then again, my grandmother’s family was British so perhaps it all stems from her influence on my family?

      3. It is a little random it’s true 😉

but.. Lee and Amanda have never been just colleagues, they are now very close friends, best friends even.. with a little more than that bubbling away between them and as yet unacknowledged (well unless you count ‘not exactly!’)..
I made it work for me 😉 Amanda is comforting Lee who is upset.. that’ll do!! and.. underneath that superficial excuse to hand hold? is the beginnings of love and romance! they just aren’t ready to admit it yet..

I don’t want to look a gift horse in the mouth- but that whole sequence is strange with the sudden change of clothes? the timing is all off.. in more than one way maybe 😉

        Like

        1. I was going to add something just like tat. he fact that it is random and something work colleagues wouldn’t do is just the point. Lee and Amanda are so much more. And although they are to scared to put a name to it, they aren’t too scared to not let it build inside of them and communicate it a bit with these sweet forms of touch. Actually I think they value their friendship, the gift of a relationship that is growing more dear to them so much that they are afraid of destroying it by not letting it grow. What would have happened if Amanda hadn’t said, “Not exactly”? They would be destroying their friendship by trying to maintain denial. These hand holds and touches are so important to heir own emotional selves because they can communicate their care and growing intimacy with one another without having to go where they really aren’t ready yet.

BjO, I bet their hands did brush up against each other as they left and Lee just grabbed hers. I wonder if they even realized what they were doing? Or of deep inside both side a large breath of relief to finally make that contact. even while their stomachs filled with butterflies… or were they both calm and feeling like it was the most natural thing in the world, natural and comforting. Lee certainly seems reluctant to let her hand go at the car.

Holding hands is that first real touch. It can be done rather stealthily and then all of a sudden, low and behold you both realize you are connected for all the world to see. And if you really like that person there is a smug satisfaction that you are in fact connected. And yet it doesn’t plumb and depths of physical intimacy.. I can make it fit here… 😉 Yes, it will be fun to play with this in the stories 😀

          Like

          1. So do you think this handholding and the dinner in the next post are all coming from Lee’s processing of Amanda’s “not exactly”? I can see that. I still think it’s weird that it came in a work setting though. Maybe there was some hand-holding after their dinner at Spencer’s?

So in TLODG, Amanda grabs Lee’s hand to comfort him about finding Emily. Lee strokes her hand with his thumb (I think you are one who sees that, yes?). So here, the idea is that 1) Amanda could have taken Lee’s hand to comfort him, or put her hand on his to comfort him and he grabbed hold of her hand instead of the thumb stroke or 2) their hands maybe bumped and Lee took advantage of it and grabbed her hand and went with it. I think I can see either, and I definitely think there would have been some butterflies on Amanda’s part – or thoughts around why he took her hand. I do think he took her hand and not the other way around.

I’m just thinking out loud here with all this, not sure where I’m going. Just rambling.

            1. I could see both of those scenarios taking place. Lee is pretty worked up and aggravated here. I wouldn’t be surprised if he isn’t even totally aware of what he is doing g except that he is becoming more integrated as a person. He used to be so compartmentalized and now he is frustrated by a situation that has to do with both his job and his friends but maybe also a situation that he may be projecting himself into. Bart and Coleen are a professional couple who love each other and work together. I think in a way Lee would be tempted to place what is happening in his own life into that picture. By Bart is dead and that may confirm that loss expectation for Lee again. So he is riled up even if he can’t articulate that. And he is instinctively reaching for throne person who can comfort him also the person who brings all those anxieties to a head. He grabs her hand and holds on. Lee doesn’t strike me as a hand holding type of Guy, at least not in his past. But that makes this all the more special.

          2. I know it’s been a few years, but I just went to read the post again and your lovely discussions and I wondered about the hand holding troo. As it does seem a little random at this particular point, because it’s so obvious, especially with the length of time their holding onto each other. I mean, even while having to separate to get into the car, they stretch their arms out until it’s physically impossible to hold hands anymore and not one moment sooner.

It’s interesting that you say, it’s not something work colleagues would do, because I actually wonder if this was more a BB/KJ moment that unconsciously happened and they left it in. Why? Well, the lead actress of my other fave show “The Mentalist”, Robin Tunney, was photographed when she held hands with the actor (Pedro Pascal) who played her boyfriend for a few episodes while they were on their way to breakfast. At the time she was engaged (now married), but you could have mistaken them for a couple though they are just good friends. So perhaps it’s more an actors/friends thing that they thought works with the Amanda and Lee friendship.

        2. Yeah, I think for me at this point, I’m going to stick with the timing is off or the episode order is off. But I’ll leave that ep order for the experts! It is a nice gift though!

          1. The only thing about episode order that I think is important hereis that this one comes before the next one (and hand holding has a lot to do with that for me.) I also cannot see this one commingle before Amy of the earlier episodes. So I work with it right here. I can make it work no problem 😉

                1. haaa haaa yes I still haven’t looked! My anticipation is building too.. it’s good because I don’t think of what’s ahead, only what I know so far.. so it doesn’t make my head hurt 😉 haaa
I’m going to need to soon though because I have to make sure I have the transcript for the next episode already! I”ll hold off a couple more days.. but I’ll just look at the next one. no further!

I agree wherever you said Morley that you thought this ep should come after all the eps that have come before it. I think so too.. whether it should come later in the season – I can’t say at this point.I’ll have to see what’s ahead first and then look back.
oh that reminds me… I need to head over to neds and update my ep order thoughts on season 3! eek!

  12. I honestly find the hand holding a tad odd-delightful to see of course-but it doesn’t really seem to fit. Holding hands is for solid couples imo, not friends who are just hanging together for dinners without officially dating.
Is it too full on for the timeline of their coupleness or not?

    1. Hey Janetpc! I love that you shared this with us! thank you!! and an interesting thought. I can see how it could seem a bit sudden- but because I saw the prolonged hand holding as a comforting that Lee needs right now, I figured it fit okay. If had just been for no reason.. it would have seemed sudden to me. I guess I don’t see it as coupleness.. but as comfort that stems from how close they are.. though not an established couple.. does that make sense?
The near miss kiss at the end of Sour Grapes seemed very sudden to me! In the airing order – I was baffled about why Amanda was so knowing and confident of where Lee was headed with his excuses of promising Penny!
What did you think of that janetpc?
I think this is the first time we’ve seen so much of it – so in that it is new.. but wasn’t there some hand holding in Sour Grapes? Maybe it was only in their cover- but I remember Lee did help Amanda with her car door and that wasn’t part of their cover..
Hmm.. they seem to touch each other more and more these days – and not with upfront romance yet – the touching is like how they define their relationship – everything is called something else other than what it is.. it’s not dating, it’s blackmail! it’s teaching in interrogation! lol…. with the touching, it’s like it’s – ohhh it’s a cover, it’s for comfort.. it’s a promise to Penny!..it’s only incidental touching! lol.. you name it.. 🙂
I’ll be looking out for more touching as we continue the walk! I actually don’t remember what’s ahead – it’s possible as we continue I might look back on this and think- yeah! that hand holding was a bit ostentatious for back then! You’ll have to forgive me 🙂
      bye for now!

      1. When I was in college my roommate and I became very close friends (we still are). We often had very different schedule which meant that one of us would wake early and go to class while the other was sleeping. Often someone on campus would stop one of us and remark on our clothing choice for the day. It wasn’t until we saw each other that we realized that we had chosen the same color as the other for the day. This happened often. I wonder if two people who spend a lot of time together and who know each other rather well may some how be drawn to the same color of clothing on the same day??? Just a thought. But if that is indeed true (as it was for my roommate and I) it would say a lot about how close Lee and Amanda are. Of course, I know it is a TV show, maybe it is BB costumer and KJ’s costumer who are close, but in my mind they don’t exist 😉
