So it’s Sunday! Lee and Amanda are off to solve this riddle! Oh boy.. after last night, it must be hard to work together and not let it affect their work. I can’t wait to see how they go!
I see they arrived in different cars.. do you think that’s significant? lol I’ll read into it that it is!
Lee: This condo complex is the only place using paper with that watermark.
That’s Jango Hart.
Lee and Amanda enter..
Amanda has Lee’s arm? Are they going for a cover ID here?
Lee gets the chair for Amanda as they join Jango.
Amanda: Thank you.
Lee: Mmmhhh.
Amanda: Thank you so much.
(to Jango) Hello.
Jango: Hi.
Lee: Hi.
Jango: What would you folks like to hear?
Amanda: Well…
(Lee gets his ID from his inside pocket, Amanda gets her ID from the briefcase pocket..)
[Amanda gets her ID?! hmm probably not a real one ]
Lee: How about, I’ve got your number. [Hey! Wrong Number!] …IRS – we’ve got some questions.
Eh? So this is a professional cover- what was with the entrance that was like a couple?? I find it hard to imagine they would be very coupley after last night.. but.. maybe I’m wrong?!
Whooo maybe it was to put Jango off guard, so they could get close enough to flash their badges.
Jango: Oh no no, my lawyer told me to never ever answer any questions unless he and my accountant were present.
Amanda: Well, I suppose we’ll have to subpoena his bank records.
Lee: We’re forced to.
[Amanda and Lee seem to be working well here as a professional team.. no sign of friction.. and Amanda seems much more professional at playing this cover than the last time.. I’m guessing that was reach for the sky –It was Lee Stimpson, auditor for the Federal Board of Bank Examiners and his associate Mrs. Keene…” Amanda’s doing even better now! ]
Jango: Um… maybe I could answer just one or two little questions.
[Is it just me or is Jango a terrible over actor?! This actor has gone on to a long career.. but…? Hmm it could be he is trying to be funny.. but I’m not finding it funny..]
Amanda: Oh well, that would be very helpful….
(Amanda pulls out the photo of Will Towne.)
[Oh my.. the moment she does…
Lee’s smile disappears.. and he glares at her!]
…Could you tell us how long you’ve known this gentleman?
Jango: Well, I wouldn’t exactly call him a gentleman…
…He bought a condo here a couple of months ago…
…and I…
[Grrrr that tension is IMHO back again!!! do you see it too??]
— don’t think I should talk about him without my lawyer.
Amanda: Ah.
Lee: Oh, look at this.
Amanda: Oh dear me, undeclared income – nasty stuff.
[I love that that tension doesn’t prevent them from doing their thing.. and lol I love to see Amanda playing this fully – tension or not.. she’s on it!]
Jango: Wait, just a— I’ll co-operate – wait…
…Okay, please, do me a favour,…
…just leave my name out of this please….
…My business depends a great deal upon my discretion.
Together: Amanda: Mmmhhh. /
Lee: I see.
(Lee and Amanda start counting up Jango’s undeclared income)
Amanda: So—
Lee: What do you know about this Towne?
Jango: Who?
[Naughty of Lee to suggest the guy’s name.. Amanda never said a name and approached this better!]
Amanda: William Towne. Take a good look.
[LOL well I guess now Lee has said his last name why not give the full name?! lol]
Jango: Could have sworn that was Wally Tuttle – looks just like him.
Amanda: Oh I see,…
…thank you very much. Sorry about the inconvenience.
(Amanda goes to put the photo away, happy to have had the man identified as someone else… Lee stops her and takes back the photo)
Lee: Hold it— hold it. Is it or is it not the same man?
Jango: I’ve only seen the guy maybe 4, 5 times.
Lee: Will you see him here today?
Jango: No. No, not on weekends. At least the only time I’ve ever seen him in here is on the week nights.
Amanda: Well,… (Amanda snatches the photo back off Lee)
…thank you very much for your help Mr Hart.
Lee: Yes, we know where to find you.
Jango: Lucky me.
(Amanda isn’t even waiting around for Lee to finish his sentence.. she’s off the chair and walking off!)
Lee: There’s no time like the present.
Amanda: For what?
Lee: To go upstairs to that condo and peel wallpaper.
Did you see how Lee puts his arm around Amanda’s back to direct her to turn, and she turns in the opposite direction..
It’s blurry- because Amanda’s moving fast.. but you get the idea..
Maybe a bit of a blooper.. or.. maybe it’s Amanda rebelling/ resisting following Lee’s lead?!
As they walk off we can hear Amanda respond to Lee: Ohhhhhh!!!!
In a tone like she doesn’t want to.. doesn’t want to search the condo? or doesn’t want to pursue this Wally?
Okay I’ll pause here before they go peel wallpaper!! This post is short and brimming with tension- what do you make of them here? Do tell!!!!!!
Oh, when has Lee ever encountered a woman like this. He has got to be loving it and hating it at the same time. And the hardest part is that he is already in love with her. He thought he had her all figured out and somehow she just slipped out of his grasp, and I think needing to be able to be in control was something that was rather important to Lee. But truly loving another person means trying to walk in a relationship with them even when you don understand them or can control them. Here you go Lee, learn it now.
And I love that Amanda isn’t going to let her feelings for Lee stop her from doing the job the way she thinks she should.
And Why does Amanda seem to be taller than Lee when they are sitting on those piano stools? And I love the fact that she turned out of his arm, great catch, Iwsod!

These two come across very professional in that they have set aside their personal problems with each other to get the job down. I’m sure most of us have had to that sort of thing ourselves.

Never with anyone looking remotely like Lee Stetson though. 🙂

Yes, the “united front” in front of other people when you’re bickering badly in private. A veneer of “getting along” which will crack if either of you says something the other disagrees even slightly with. Sounds like married life 😀

Oh, yes it does – hahaha!

I like Jango – he’s a survivor – and I like his sense of humour.
Definitely some tension between L&A here. Lee is going to have to learn to accept that professionally Amanda is more than capable now. Yes, he’s got more experience, but it’s more a partnership of professional equals now rather than one of master and student.

I like Jango too — he probably is overacting (I’m not really familiar with the actor/comedian), but I can feel his pain and spoinquirming. BB and KJ do a nice job here too. I like the scene as a whole (gives me a much needed smile at a point where I am so confused), including the underlying tension conveyed between Lee and Amanda.

I enjoy this scene a lot too. A bit of humour is welcome in the humour desert that is Season three…

true! season 3 humour is a bit harder to detect!
At the same time, I’m glad bumbling Amanda is behind us!!!
Let the suspects or quirky guest stars bumble.. and let Amanda grow as a professional! Heck.. I guess this is part of what this whole episode is all about no?!

I think it is! At least so far it seems so – Amanda is set up as agent of record and has her reputation riding on the line here – not just with Lee, Francine, and Billy. I think it will be well known around the Agency as well. In order for Amanda to grow professionally, the bumbling has to stop – at least until she is fully accepted.

Put me in the ‘I like Jango’ camp, too. He’s always been a favorite part of this episode, for me 🙂 A bit of a comic relief…

Oi! –Tuttle, Towne, Popovich – Are we talking 3 people here or one? I am so confused.

I’m having a Star Trek moment. That actor, Charlie Brill was in the wondrous Trouble With Tribbles episode. I’ve seen him in a few things and he’s supposed to be a comedian, but I have never found him all that funny.
There does seem to be this little simmer of something underlying between Lee and Amanda. Obviously they can both be professional and handle their job. They both want to prove something, but what they want to prove seems to be at opposite spectrums. Amanda is going for innocence while Lee seems to be going for guilt.
I think it speaks volumes that they showed up in different cars. Amanda’s skirt looks huge as she sits on that bar stool.
I’m a bit irritated that Amanda’s fake ID is more official-looking than her guest pass. She even has a picture on the fake ID.

Well put! I think Lee is trying to get some ground back and he really wants her approval. (i.e., “How would you rate me?”) He wants to be seen as “the best,” in her eyes and he obviously lost some ground. Just now chuckled as I remembered the line by Amanda from many episodes ago, “I don’t want the best, I want you!” She still respects him, but I like how she trusts herself no matter how it turns out. I think he’s missing their closeness though. That obvious wall between them feels unnatural.

That should be Lee is trying to “gain” some ground back, not “get.”

I think thst they both act this bit really well. It rings very realistic to me. She is a little prickly and on the look out for insults. He is choosing to forget all about their little tiff and is being his ‘charming ‘ self as if nothing happened- has he not learned from Brunettes Are IK ☺ does he not remember that there are fireworks when he is mean (which is very rare to be fair ) i dont mind Jango -i have see him before.

hiya everyone!! and Hiya Michele!
I see Lee and Amanda as keeping it together here professionally.. but I got the overall vibe that the smiles and co-operation is playing the cover for Jango.
Yeah Brunettes Are in was a long time ago! I love that episode!! [I’ll edit your comment and fix your typo for ya]

I like this Sara. I agree. And yet, I think Lee may know that he won’t get the closeness back the way he used to be able to. Every time he has gotten to an impasse with Amanda (BAI or BO) he has had to go over a hurdle in his ability to become more intimate with her. I bet he has no idea how to work through this one. And Amanda isn’t going to make it easy for him. He has trained her well in the spy business and she isn’t going to let this one go just like he doesn’t let it go.

I’m with you on the guest pass thing, valeriejw. I just wonder if she really can be an Agent of Record without being an employee. Is it possible she’s been hired part time as an official Agency employee and we’ve just not heard about it?

It’s got to be the part-time issue. I’m thinking it’s an ‘executive decision’ from Billy which alters her status for special projects or upgrades her to agent of record. But it doesn’t change her to full-time agent or get rid of the pesky guest pass. She might (or should) get a special project pay rate for this assignment. I work for an environmental consulting company as a staff scientist and whenever my project assigned is higher than my usual billing rate, the rate goes up (unfortunately, my paycheck stays the same for being on salary). I’d hope in Amanda’s case it’s different, since she’s not on salary.
