He makes a run for it. 3.20-DEAD-MEN-LEAVE-NO-TRAILS.avi_00[57]
Lee: You stay here.
[Hmm something tells me this time she really will stay there!]
Lee runs after Sallee, gun drawn.

Lee sees Sallee get on a bus.
3.20-DEAD-MEN-LEAVE-NO-TRAILS.avi_00[145]
Bad bus! 3.20-DEAD-MEN-LEAVE-NO-TRAILS.avi_00[2]
We see Sallee find himself a seat and he looks out the window. yep.. Not blinking! 3.20-DEAD-MEN-LEAVE-NO-TRAILS.avi_00[104]
The bus departs. Sallee seems to realise that was way too close for comfort, and drat. He missed out on his usual Philly Hoagie and onions breakfast! He’s hungry!!!

Lee watches the bus leave.

Lee is going to eat you for breakfast!

[not a Philly Hoagie with extra onions!]

If we didn’t know it already, the super OTT dramatic music tells us this means war!!!!!

Next, we are back at IFF, and the Yellow lady is patrolling the perimeter- whoo a dog walker! Ms Dogwalker!
Lee and Amanda return to the Q bureau.

Lee: There is a reason Sallee is here. I know it. My guess is, is that he is too close to whatever it is to stop now…

[Lee turns back to the map.. the old scarecrow’s brain is ticking over! ]
…Now, what we have to do…
is figure out what, where, and when….  [rofl. Easy! Where is Francine? Who did Amanda see today?!] …Check my events calendar on the desk, will ya?
Amanda: Yeah.
(Amanda does as he asks)
Lee: Now, there is a cluster of pins around the sandwich shop, sector three… 3.20 DEAD MEN LEAVE NO TRAILS.avi_001779512
…Alright, we’ll move outward in concentric circles, say… two blocks out, to start.
[LOL is he attempting to use a compass to measure 2 blocks? rofl! looks super clever!]
Amanda: Right. Sector three. What events?
3.20 DEAD MEN LEAVE NO TRAILS.avi_001781581
[Amanda starts checking the diary]
Lee: Ah, public and private… security risk code blue and above.
3.20 DEAD MEN LEAVE NO TRAILS.avi_001782515
Amanda: Ah, six today. Three tomorrow… Eleven the day after.
Amanda hands Lee a folder. Lee’s diary is a folder? 3.20 DEAD MEN LEAVE NO TRAILS.avi_001790623
Lee: Ah, man, that’s what I was afraid of. A dozen embassies, and a score of government agencies in that sector.  Hotels and museums, too.
Alright, I’m gonna go down and check along the bus route. Talk to that… proprietor at the sandwich shop… 3.20 DEAD MEN LEAVE NO TRAILS.avi_001804637
…He seemed to be pretty talkative.
[Is it just me or is he looking pretty good here at the doorway?! Ah how I’ve missed my immature silliness over Lee Stetson Smile ]3.20 DEAD MEN LEAVE NO TRAILS.avi_001805839
Amanda: Right.
Lee: Maybe he can tell me something. Why don’t you check into that diary some more?
3.20 DEAD MEN LEAVE NO TRAILS.avi_001807440[Well there’s a compliment. Now Lee is on board with Amanda’s diligence with the diary!]
Amanda: Yeah.
Lee: Okay? See you later.
Amanda: Alright.
Amanda gets out the diary and gets to work and the scene ends.
Next thing we see the corvette pulling out of the magical IFF car park. [Look both ways for yellow lady Lee!]

We cut back to Amanda, absorbed in the diary. Is that a new ring? It’s very pretty.. I don’t think I’ve noticed her wearing any ring other than her pinkie one.. have you? Is this new?
she looks lovely here Smile 3.20 DEAD MEN LEAVE NO TRAILS.avi_001820653
Amanda (reading from the diary to herself): “
Went to the library today and found two wonderful volumes on electricity. Alan has such fascinating hobbies.”
[Oh boy. Just like Jamie and Phillip! Winking smile ]
(Amanda puts the diary down, reaches into the desk drawer, removes the open lockbox, placing it on the desk. She pulls out the burnt out light bulb and looks at it thoughtfully.)
3.20 DEAD MEN LEAVE NO TRAILS.avi_001839472
Amanda: Hmm… lightbulb moment
Oh wait – Did a light bulb just come on???!!!!
[Sorry couldn’t resist]
Amanda writes a note, leaves it on the desk, picks up the light bulb and her notecards, and exits. Uh oh where is she off to now? You know, I am drawing a total blank on this episode and what’s next!

Anyway, the scene ends there.. and we cut to Lee pulling up out front of the Philly Hoagie shop. There’s police.. police tape and a crowd.. Uh oh.. Lee ducks under the tape and heads inside.. he seems to know what he’s going to find inside Sad smile
3.20 DEAD MEN LEAVE NO TRAILS.avi_001879512
Yep.. a dead dude on the floor.. A cop approaches Lee.
3.20 DEAD MEN LEAVE NO TRAILS.avi_001882716
Lee: Don’t tell me… the money’s still in the register.
Lee shows his ID to the cop..
Lt. Trisk: You got it. We figure dope or numbers … but if he was dealing out of here, it was the quietest operation in town—we never heard about it.3.20 DEAD MEN LEAVE NO TRAILS.avi_001885685
(
Um why did they uncover him and cover him again? was that for Lee’s benefit. Hmm..)
Lee: Hmm. 3.20 DEAD MEN LEAVE NO TRAILS.avi_001889289
[What’s going on in smk land, this cop is better dressed than Lee!]
Lt. Trisk: I’m Lieutenant Trisk.
Lee: I think you’ll find this ties into a homicide, yesterday, in Arlington. McDonald. The same MO.3.20 DEAD MEN LEAVE NO TRAILS.avi_001896329
Lt. Trisk: Tell me, Mr. Stetson, what’s the Agency’s interest in this?
[I wonder if Lt. Trisk is expert at the Frisk..]3.20 DEAD MEN LEAVE NO TRAILS.avi_001898732
Lee: We’re looking for a guy. Steven Sallee.
He’s a terrorist. We thought he was dead.
(Lee shows Lt. Frisk Trisk the photo)3.20 DEAD MEN LEAVE NO TRAILS.avi_001904738
Lt. Trisk: Not this guy?
(Lt. Trisk gives the photo back. Lee takes it and walks off as he responds)
Lee: No. This guy is dead.

LOL at Lt.Trisk with the hand in the pocket looking dapper.
3.20 DEAD MEN LEAVE NO TRAILS.avi_001912512
He reminds me of Volkenkauer!

Cops and their pockets!

I better pause here before moving on to the next scene.. anyone like to share their thoughts on this part of the ep? or the ep so far? Love love love to hear from ya!

…what is it about Lee and concentric circles? They’ve come up a lot in S3. Wasn’t a helicopter going in concentric circles earlier in the season? And I’m sure there’ve been others.

This made me crack up, because I have the exact same thought every time I watch this episode and hear him say that!! 😂😂😂😂 (And I think Reach For the Sky is the helicopter moment when they’re looking for the satellite Cyclops is using.)

Somewhere someone raised the question of why Sallee (who is the creepiest baddie to me and also must need the most eye drops) comes back to kill hoagie guy. Hoagie dude was very nice, but also talks a lot, evidently, and must be suspicious of Sallee after knowing Amanda & Lee were both questioning him. So I think sadly he was the next to go. 🙁 Sallee must be starting to feel pressed in, with random people hunting him down and no place to stay. Seems he’s having to begin to make more improvisational choices to make his original plan work.

  2. Since no one else addressed this question, Amanda has worn a ring (not sure if it’s a signet or an oval yellow jade stone) on her left hand pinkie finger and she has worn what looks to be a round diamond ring on her right hand ring finger since Season 1, I believe.

In fact, in the Season 2 Odds on a Dead Pigeon episode Amanda wore these 2 rings and her double, Karen Brinkman, did not. When watching I always yell, “Lee look at her fingers!” Of course, he always chooses prolonged drama and waits for her, “Oh my gosh.” Sorry for the Amanda ramble.

It was customary a couple decades ago for a divorced woman to wear her wedding & engagement rings on her right hand. So it is possibly the engagement ring Joe King gave her; however, I prefer to think it is the engagement ring of one of her grandmothers handed down as an heirloom.

    1. Thanks Nancy! Dang.. wish you had joined this walk ages ago! I guess at least now you can still join in anywhere you like! 🙂

typical man! 😉 A woman would have noticed 🙂

It was customary a couple decades ago for a divorced woman to wear her wedding & engagement rings on her right hand.

      Was it really? why?
If I divorced the guy I wouldn’t be wearing the rings anymore!

I like your idea that the ring is an heirloom 🙂 sounds like something Amanda’s character would love!

      1. Some women have their engagement rings put in a different setting. I thought my mom was considering that. Some might take the diamond and turn it into a necklace too. The diamond is still good, even if the relationship isn’t.

        1. This changing the setting is a great idea! A diamond is still a diamond 🙂 no such thing as a bad diamond! [though some would argue there are a few that are cursed lol]

      2. Especially a couple generations ago, if a woman stopped wearing her wedding set, people might think the sizing is wrong or she forgot to put them on after washing dishes. However, when she deliberately places them on her right hand, it draws attention so co-workers, various friends, family — even her ex if he’s keeping it quiet –realize she’s divorced without her having to talk about it endlessly. It’s not so common anymore, but Amanda was divorced 35 years ago. I agree, iswod, and still believe it’s from one of her grandmothers.

Your JustWalkWithMe site is fabulous and I do wish I found it years ago. It’s fun reminiscing over a favorite show that ended too soon. It was a crime, especially seeing how Bruce Boxleitner has aged so gracefully over the years. Many thanks because I am learning so much from you and those who comment. Your talent, dedication and love for S&MK are so obvious!

        1. whoa. sure was a different time! I’m thinking it says something if I don’t wear a ring. that’s enough.. but then.. if it was a gorgeous diamond I could be convinced to wear it no problem haaaaa..

    2. A little bit off topic, but I remember us fans getting frustrated with Patrick Jane (Mentalist) who wouldn’t take off his wedding ring (wife was deceased for several years) and yet he was dating someone (fortunately, the one we all wanted him to date). But that darn ring! Grrrr… Episode after episode we were wondering when it would disappear. Anyway, Amanda wearing her engagement and wedding rings on her right hand is nothing to me now.

    3. UGH. Glad that custom has changed. If I had a divorce I don’t think I’d want to have to keep the rings on.

I wonder if that was kind of a “scarlet letter” to signify when someone was divorced because of how that used to be so frowned upon in society?

  3. And the sidewalks managed to dry themselves after Lee showed up! Man, he has magical powers! They must have filmed that scene before the sprinklers turned on 😉

Ummm, why doesn’t Lee know ahead of time that there are a dozen embassies and a score of gov’t agencies in sector 3? And what about the other sectors? Why start with 3 if he doesn’t know what’s there? He’s been an agent for how long? This seems a bit off to me.

  4. Lee only adds to the decor of any room and he is especially adding much to that doorway.

I’ve often wondered why Sallee went back to take out the sandwich guy. What would be the point? He’s already been seen by too many people and going back to that sandwich shop was taking a big risk. It would be a little too late to tie up loose ends. Did he have Lee and Amanda on his list next? I guess it was a plot point to once again separate Lee and Amanda and add to the tension.

Sallee truly creeps me out as a baddie. He’s so lacking in emotion. The only time he showed some was when he tried to joke with Amanda after the accident. Looking back it seems even creepier. Kind of a dark episode, I think.

  5. Loved the post! Some very funny comments especially about the tension and the philly hogans (and to digress, Sallee doesn’t look as if he would eat philly hogans on a regular basis).
Loved the shot of Lee in the doorway. He is looking good although I am not a huge fan of the clothes. Yes, the detective was dressed a lot better and looked sharper. To digress again, I know that the clothes show Lee becoming more ‘ordinary’ but was there another 80’s element involved as well. Where these jackets and colours considered cool in the 80’s?? I am trying to remember. I know McGyver dressed in a similar style and I suppose he was fairly cool for the time (Actually I really enjoyed the first 2-3 series a lot!)
I know that Amanda ignoring Lee is good for the development of the episode but in a work (or life) partner, ignoring would be a bit irritating (or passive aggressive). I suppose she thinks that he is only looking out for her safety rather than trying to organise their function as a team. Or perhaps she thinks that rules don’t apply to her (which is a bit of reversal of roles). I am just throwing this out there as it occurred to me when going through this post. When watching the episode I didn’t think this, that I was impressed by her bravery and deduction and thought how she has honed her instincts into a very good agent. (her professional development in this season is done very well I think). But on this stroll, it stood out a bit that she doesn’t really pay much heed to Lee at all and if the roles were reversed, I don’t think that she would live it!

    1. As for Lee’s clothes, to me they look overly neutral. I don’t mind the dress down (he does look good in jeans) but I think he needs more than neutral.

      1. He’s a spy. He’s trying to blend in, like a stealthy shadow, creeping through the city. 😉

Actually, that is a point. He blends in with his surroundings much more in casual neutrals than he did in the early seasons, wearing all those nice suits. He looked great, but now he looks like a much more effective spy. It’s the ones you’d never look at twice. You’d never suspect them! 😀

              1. Was it an 1980s TV thing that spies/PIs/real men had super-fast, super-flashy sports cars? What do they drive these days? The British detectives seem to drive luxury German sedans these days 😀

                1. Remington Steele had a similar issue with his rare Auburn. I think they even joked about it in an episode or two. XD

        1. I think Lee is looking increasingly like someone’s Dad as S3 progresses. Much less glamorous than the snazzy suits. He certainly blends in more – more Dad with a couple of kids drinking beer rather than James Bond with yet another woman on one arm, and martini in the other hand. (the colours, the jackets {gag}, the chunky pants.
Amanda, on the other hand, is looking more professional and less full-time homemaker than she was.

A couple more points – what is it about Lee and concentric circles? They’ve come up a lot in S3. Wasn’t a helicopter going in concentric circles earlier in the season? And I’m sure there’ve been others.

          2. One of the “shower thoughts” on Reddit one day was from a man who said that he used to think that people lost their sense of fashion when they became adults because of the way that his father dressed, but after he became a dad himself and realized that he was dressing like his father, he understood that the real reason was that he no longer cared about what other people thought of him.

I think maybe Lee has arrived at that same point. He’s been working for the Agency for more than 10 years, he’s now the head of his own sort of mini-department in the Q-Bureau, away from the main field office downstairs, and he’s comfortable with his partner. He has more freedom now to dress however he likes, and he’s not worried about impressing anybody. Amanda likes him without him trying hard to impress her. He’s not worrying too much about his appearance because there are more important things on his mind. It’s all good. 🙂

            1. Yeah, plus it must have been getting hard for Amanda to keep explaining to her neighbors why a very good-looking man in an expensive suit kept going into her backyard. We all know those nosy neighbors were watching and probably keeping track. Lee definitely blends in more now, as long as we ignore his cool car.

        2. rofl. yes that is a plus. Stealthy Lee usually consists of him catching a very loud helicopter for a ride and then rappelling onto a roof and declaring he is on ‘whisper mode’ – rofl! this thought never fails to crack me up!

but yes.. ahem.. where was I? so true Jestress – Our Suave Lee is far too noticeable to blend in usually.. yes I liked those nice suits!

    1. LOL, I was thinking the same thing — how did I miss that gorgeous look of Lee’s through all my many viewings of this ep?!?! He looks just a tad scruffy = rugged and roguish!. Bet they filmed it late in the day I’ve always thought Lee wears an afternoon shadow quite nicely. OK, end of my hopelessly shallow update.

Oh, just a comment. I believe Lee’s “event calendar” is not his personal calendar, but rather the events that he needs to keep track of in his role as security-whatever. So maybe it was a calendar tucked in the folder the Amanda handed Lee?

You know, I wonder if SMK did the lightbulb thing on purpose. Amanda holds a lightbulb and has a “eureka” moment. It would be totally SMK-style humor, albeit subtle. At any rate, it’s yet another thing I’ve totally not noticed until now about this episode. Thanks, iwsod, for all your great observations!!

I think Lee really likes working on a case like this with Amanda. The look on his face standing there in the doorway to the Q looks so flirtatious, like he did when he was throwing her little flirty comments in earlier episodes, but here all he is doing is discussing their next steps in the case. I don’t think he is going to be able to contain himself with her much longer…

I wonder if Lee is going to get mad that Amanda didn’t stay there and look into the diary longer? She is off again!
