Back at the airport, the custom seals on the trucks are being checked. Truck 241? did we see that one earlier?! I saw truck 813.. but didn’t see a truck 241… Oh whatev.
Chang and Col.Sung are there. They are checking the seals on the trucks to ensure they were not opened en route.
[Aren’t these two looking dashing!]
We see a close up on 52!!!!! The next Truck!!!
Inside, Rajmund is sitting at the wheel, with his gun, ready to fire.
LOL. A man who looks a bit like a Pakistani driving truck 52, and sitting there holding a gun? Hey team, guess which truck contains the detonators!!! rofl!!!!
Lee has pulled over and makes another call to Petrovich.
Lee: Petrovich, I’m parked near the airport. Chang and Jin Sung are making a final check on the trucks. Where are you?
Petrovich: Covering Skylar. The trucks are here. We couldn’t have missed them.
[What would they do without Amanda and Nadine! ] As soon as Petrovich finishes, Amanda interjects on the phone [is this a three way conversation?! I guess so?].
Amanda: We got Pam Jentry. They switched trucks somehow.
Nadine joins Amanda and adds: Tell him they are on truck number 52.
Amanda (without hesitation): Nadine says they’re on truck number 52.
[I love that Amanda doesn’t get side tracked by this new twist. Nadine speaks English?! The truck is priority 1.]
Lee: So she speaks English?
[lol Lee is a little less focused tee hee.. I guess someone had to point out to the audience that she had been tricksy.. because we couldn’t possibly remember she was acting like she didn’t speak English.. ho hum..
I reckon Nadine was interrogating Pam off camera tee hee… you know.. giving her some…
…sorry! Couldn’t resist a tribute to the other ‘Russian’ Lady Toughie!!!!]
Could this be a little message?: Don’t underestimate the females in the team???!!!
Smiling a little wryly at Nadine, Amanda says to Lee: She obviously does speak English.
Nadine has the grace to have a laugh herself!
Hey you guys – truck 52! laugh later!!
Petrovich interjects: I’ll meet you at the truck.
[oh. he was listening too? lol. me confused. anyway.. ]
Lee: I’m on my way.
(Lee gets in his car.)
[I sense an action finale is about to take place! Brace yourselves everyone!!! ]
Next thing we are back at the airport. Chang and Col. Sung are getting closer to truck 52..
and Rajmund is still waiting with his gun ready.
Petrovich speeds around the corner, tyres squealing
[ – lol!!! Hey everybody!!! I’m in a hurry and something’s up!!! Petrovich’s squealing tyres totally tell Rajmund something’s wrong! well.. that and the previous two other times Petrovich had done that squealy turn.
See the skid marks already on the road before we see Petrovich round the corner in the foreground?! tee hee ]
Rajmund gets out, his gun ready.. Chang, lookin good, has his gun out too.
[But.. why Chang heads straight to Truck 52 I don’t know, because no one had yet told him it was the truck! LOL. okay maybe he heard Rajmund jumping out and running.. I went back and as Petrovich is squealing around the corner we can see Chang interacting with his walkie talkie thingy – so maybe Lee is telling him which truck it is.. I’ll go with that. ]
Chang carefully approaches..
Col. Sung gets her gun out and backs him up.
[go girl! ]
Rajmund shoots at Chang.
[ but no use! Chang has been to the same spy school as Lee.
you know… the one where you can miraculously dodge bullets with no cover!! ]
Rajmund runs again.. Chang shoots and approaches..
[lol not sure what Chang’s back up is doing!]
Rajmund stops and shoots back…
Lee’s car pulls up squealing away.. Looks like Petrovich is still at his car.. Col. Sung waves Lee toward where Rajmund is.. and Lee continues to drive around to the other side of the trucks.
Looks like Rajmund has hijacked a fuel truck. Can I just say this guy wins the dumbest baddie ever award??!!!
Yes!!!! I’m going to steal a fuel truck while people are shooting at me and trying to stop me!!!! rofl!!! Maybe he thinks it’s full of corn bread mix
Okay, I jest about the fuel truck.. but I guess it does mean people can’t get too close and shoot unless they have a death wish? Hmm so maybe it’s not such a dumb plan after all? tee hee.. yeah no I prefer it to be a dumb plan, it’s more fun
Lee chases the fuel truck. Oh dear, Hope Lee doesn’t get too close or Lee might join the possible big boom boom.
Can you tell I’ve gone slightly ridiculous?! why not!
I will pause here and leave us all in suspense.. how will it all end? Will Lee catch this ‘cunning’ bad guy??!! Thoughts anyone?
It’s nice that all the women got a bit of a shout out in this episode. Obviously Lee is going to have to be the one to ultimately take down this Rajmand.
Chang and Sung do look very nice.

For some reason, I really enjoy the reveal that Nadine speaks English. I like the look on Nadine’s face and the way Lee and Amanda are so connected here even though they are on the phone with each other. (hold on to that phone connection thought for Lee and Amanda for future).
And I wonder about the costuming of these three sets of spies and the stereotypes of the countries that they are supposed to represent. I get the Russian and American costuming. But these Chinese? They are so sharply dressed… shouldn’t they be wearing matching blue Chinese pajama sets with caps like Chairman Mao? Instead they are looking like high style westernized capitalists… But they sure look sharp and put together.

If my memory serves me correctly, I think this is about the time the Chinese started dressing and blending in more to western culture. I’m visualizing a few movies from that time, but the titles haven’t come to me yet.

Does anyone else wonder why they decided to make it seem as though Nadine doesn’t speak English until this point? Was it so we’d question whether she could be trusted?

Good question, Sara.
I never came up with a satisfying answer…

Yeah I wondered this earlier in the ep at some point too Sara, don’t ask me where 😉
.. seems to me they were trying for that.. Nadine was the wild card!
Amanda was left alone with her too, so I think they were hoping to create some suspense here yes.
It was a little point of interest in the characters and plot..
Whether or not we found it interesting is another matter 😉
As an idea in isolation it’s not a bad one, but the ep didn’t capture my interest so nor did this basically!

I could see it being a point of interest. I’m not sure the story would change much if we knew this earlier. It’s sort of a flat episode, though I think some of us could brainstorm some interesting twists. 😉

spot on sara! some interesting ideas in this ep, but when it all came together it fell flat (IMHO!)

I always figured that it was part of how the spies were working together but still spying on each other, like with the listening devices from earlier. Maybe they were hoping that if no one knew that Nadine could understand English, they might say something significant in front of her.
There was a movie awhile back called What the Deaf Man Heard. I didn’t watch it all, but I remember that it was about a man who pretended to be deaf in order to see what people would say in front of him (I can’t remember if it was part of some academic study or just a private experiment of his), and he discovered that people would say all kinds of things in front of him that they shouldn’t because they thought that he couldn’t hear and would never know. Then, something happened, and he was called into court as a witness to some crime, and everyone laughed until they realized that he wasn’t deaf and knew everything that had been going on. I think that Nadine was trying for a similar thing, getting the Americans to relax their guard around her because they thought she wasn’t able to understand them.

Yes, the Chinese left a packet of cigarettes with a bug to catch conversations and the Russians had their “deaf to English” for the same purpose. I guess they wanted to one-up the Americans with the home court advantage. Lee and Amanda were great together and all they needed was each other — and a new wardrobe designer with a decent budget!

I do think Nadine has the most beautiful smile – it cheers me up just looking at that screen cap 🙂 .
Given the difference between Lee and Amanda’s response to the relevation that Nadine does speak English, I wondering if one of the themes in the episode is the contrast between the apparent big spies (Lee, Petrovich and the dapper Chang) and the little spies (Amanda, Nadine and Chin). The supposed non-spies are the ones that are really on the ball, in the know and various other suitable metaphors. I love it!!

I am enjoying your walk through this episode much more than the episode! Its very funny, so Nadine speaks English, who would have guessed? It is so plausible that you would send a non speaking agent (or whatever) to an English speaking country – some help they would be!
It is a bit mean to leave us in suspense as to whether Lee will manage to catch such a devious evil character as Rajmund.
The Chinese certainly win the style awards hands down. (Mind you that is all they have brought to the table).

rofl. I’m mean am I?! tee hee.. I mean MUahahahahahaa!!!! Michele has caught on to my evil cunning plan!! 😉
as if we are really worried about Lee’s safety 🙂 not! 🙂
lol. that’s a good call!
Oh wait.. what about Col. Sung suggesting the Americans take the lead on this assignment? I think that was a hugely important moment and without it they would have failed miserably! 🙂

I have a feeling that nobody is surprised that Nadine speaks English. I bet she speaks Chinese as well. At least a little bit.
Love the Tatiana tribute! She’s the best female Russian baddie imho 😀
