Back to the love nest.. Lee and Amanda are carrying out the seamy side of secret agent work watching Tony.

Tony: Ah, I’ll drink to that.
Tony turns to pick up the two champagne flutes and hands one to Maria.

[LOL I thought she was going to come out wearing it but then I realised oh yeah this is smk! Ahh I love 80’s TV that didn’t hit us over the head with the sexy times Winking smile
I feel bad enough for Maria already – that she’s being watched, Tony’s up to no good etc. At least she was spared having her photo taken in the little outfit Winking smile ]

Surely Lee the super spy is going to notice a massive Limo parked out front of Amanda’s place? Pretty out of place for the suburbs – and he knows Krutiov is involved and has a limo!

  1. I’m wondering if Lee’s reaction to the drugging was like when you’re almost laughing in shock and embarrassment because you can’t believe what you’re seeing and it’s that or come unglued. Lee may have drugged enemy operatives in the line of duty and he may have been cavalier with women’s hearts, but even as a rogue he had a code he never would have crossed and this TOTALLY goes past that kind of line. We saw his reaction to treating women as “merchandise” on Brunettes Are In and this might be sparking something similar. And there was no way to get over and do anything because of all of Maria’s security.

    On another note, would that kind of jump into a pool actually be possible or would it be too dangerous?

    And another question… after that season 2 plunge was there any marked relationship change? I need to go check that out. That was a European episode. Was it the one where they rescued Emily?
    Of course they waded through water together in Utopia Now and we all know what moment that led them to…

  3. The filming of the two balcony scenes was a bit off. The transition between sunlight and the other lighting was a little jarring. Glad they didn’t spend a whole lot of time with it.

    Love the limo commercial!!

    I like how Lee quickly gets over his hesitations about Amanda being a part of of some of the seamier and more dangerous parts of cases now. He moved on quickly from the elevator scene and doesn’t hesitate about having Amanda jump into the pool. And such a gentleman to take her home first to change clothes and get dry.

    Not Lee’s finer moments. But, in all fairness, he believes a silver corvette is a fine choice for an inconspicuous spy car so I can see how he could overlook a limo following them and then park in front of Amanda’s.

    3. If I am correct, when the Limo pulls away you see the ‘Bewitched’ house in the background? Maybe Lee was doing a Mrs Kravettes(Sp?) nosey neighbour routine and watching Samantha wiggle her nose? So that is why he did not notice the Limo?

    The lady with the shades cracks me up. I wonder whose mother she was. It’s almost as if she showed up just in time to do the scene but her transition sunglass lenses hadn’t had time for the tinting to go away hahaha Wait, did they have those back then?

    I really wish Amanda had been wearing one of her parachute skirts for this scene! They usually have so much material we wouldn’t have seen anything anyway on our tv screens!

    Lee’s reaction to Maria’s lingerie is so stereotypically male. Guess he’s not completely gone into grandpa mode even if his clothing and shoes have.

      1. Shade lady is very bizarre, which is why I wonder if she isn’t Buckner’s or Ross-Leming’s mother or something. Or were they just short on extras that day? 😀 I wonder if someone told her to wear the dark shades to make her look more like a spy or something – lol. Even Margaret in Spiderweb didn’t have the tinted shade thing working for her!

        1. My only guess for ‘shade lady’ is she recently had eye surgery. Cataracts maybe? The glasses have changed through the years, but I don’t recall what they were like in the 1980s. Fluorescent lighting is either too bright or not bright enough.

        2. Scratch that… She does seem like an extra. Not sure they’d have an extra who just had eye surgery though, so maybe it’s just that the set lights are too bright for her.

            1. There are a number of explanations for the Lady With The Shades; One being that this is a Federal Office with mandates to hire handicapped people so she could be blind. Another reason is back in the day a lot of secretaries wore those kind of sunglasses if they worked in a computer room or an office with bright lights above and those CRT screens on their desks, so if she was from Central Casting it fit the part. The most likely reason for the dark shades is that she is wearing glasses with lenses that react to sunlight. This was filmed in California(?) so she could have been outside the sound stage for a cig or just some fresh air. No smoking allowed in sound stages(Normally, but there are exceptions) and despite AC the set areas can get very stuffy and warm. So Lady With The Shades comes back in to do her quick walk on scene. Cameras are rolling, and back then(Again I am showing my age) the camera monitor screens showing what was being filmed were not often in colour, and picture quality was not the best. Camera man only stops film when actors miss their marks, flubbed lines, or production crew notices something is not correct, so the dark glasses did not look so bad while filming, Later maybe some one noticed, but the scene was in the can so that is how we saw it and are now having our fun.

              2. She could also have just had cataract surgery. I’ve had a few people in my family get that in the early 1990s and they all had to wear dark glasses after.

                I personally always wear dark glasses inside and out other than in my own home because I have problems with fluorescent lighting giving me headaches.

  8. So, the camera was waterproof ? Otherwise how did the photos survive the swim in the pool ? Or would the film be okay and just the camera’s innards be damaged ?

      2. I’m sure Amanda had a little Ziploc baggie in her purse for such emergencies. She whipped it out for Lee before he gave it back to her to put in her purse. Or better yet, Leatherneck gave Amanda a special spy purse with an inside watertight compartment….hehehe.

  10. Lee, the Rule Breaker: Gotta love that “NO DIVING” is painted every four feet out so around the edge of that pool.

    Amanda’s fashion sense: How fortunate that she picked today to wear tennies and jeans instead of her usual heels and parachute skirt. Although with a skirt, she and Lee could have sailed quietly and gracefully out of hotel airspace instead of creating all that ruckus and getting so wet and soggy in the pool. 😉

      I can see why he wore that brown/beige plastic jacket – it made quite an effective parachute for them both. Somehow, it’s just not the same as the European wet shirt moment. The plaid shirt just doesn’t look so good wet. Maybe Lee just isn’t enough of a bad boy anymore to look good in a wet shirt {sigh, I’m never happy}

        I think that’s because the white (European) shirt was

        a) unbuttoned, giving us a peek at his chest and
        b) transparent when it was wet.

        The plaid shirt is still buttoned and not transparent at all – bad shirt! 😦

        Otherwise Lee would still look good in a wet shirt – ahhhem… more than good, I think… 😉

      2. If only we at least had the European-Lee hair this season.
        I’m thinking that was a higher quality, finer European shirt, compared with the now definitely not so fine Plaid-Dad look. S3 and 4 (not jumping ahead Iwsod) are so much more puritanic in some respects than S1 and 2. (I guess the conservative Reagan years had something to do with it). Between that and Lee morphing into “Dad” I don’t think we’re going to see a bare chested Lee again. 😦 I think the last time we had a glimpse was the Tin Man/Dorothy episode (name escapes me for a moment).

            1. It’s been ages since I saw S4 as well – so I’m just speculating really based on how “wholesome” SMK and Lee are becoming as we progress through S3. For those of us who consider the gutter like a second home, this is a disheartening trend of S3 … :-/ in amongst lots of good relationship progress stuff though 🙂
