Hi Everyone! Thought I’d let you all know that the walk is going to recommence on Thursday 1 June, 2017 – Are you ready for Season 4??!!
Who is walking with us?
Anyone not seen Season 4 for a few years?
[and as clueless about it as I am?]
The walk will start with the episode Unfinished Business, and Stemwinders 1 & 2 will follow. When the show originally aired, Unfinished Business was episode 3. However, it’s commonly believed that it was the originally intended season opener. For a discussion- see this post at Nedlindgers – I asked for people’s thoughts on what order to blog the episodes in.. as I couldn’t watch and decide for myself – I’m not watching the episodes in advance of blogging about them!

We’ll see how we go with the pacing, and dealing with some of the err ‘patchy’ smk content.. hopefully we’ll get through it together 
I figure some yummy trail mix can make a tough walk that much easier 
i.e. our love of smk, discussions and jokes will be the trail mix! num num.

Based on what we’ve seen so far- what burning questions do you have that will hopefully be answered as we walk through Season 4?

Will Phillip actually have a scene where he is being good to his brother?!

I am here for the season 4 walk! Its only taken me 2 and a half years, but I am here!

Yes, why did we Germans only get 15 out of 22 episodes in S4? Especially why did they keep all those real nuggets (Stemwinder I+II, Unfinished Business, Night Crawler) from us?

Don’t worry too much, Iwsod.
Thankfully we got all the missing gems at DVD. Those eps are ‘original eps’, so they’ve only the English soundtrack, no German dubbing, but I don’t mind that little detail. 🙂
BTW, I have a theory about why we didn’t get those missing eps – at least most of them. But I can’t share it now without spoilering. And I have to proof that theory first. I’ll tell you after episode 16 (‘Do You Take This Spy?’) 😉

SMK was on German TV(Not sure which Station?) where I ‘Discovered’ it again. As a matter of fact I found this website because I wanted more info on that Photo of Lee’s parents. Watching SMK brought back a few memories for me(The clothes, the ‘High Tech’ computers and other gadgets, etc.) but, well(Doch) the German translation sometimes missed a bit of humour. So I went out and bought all 4 seasons on DVD. Surprise for me were the episodes not shown on German TV, so of course they were not dubbed into German. Why certain episodes were not originally shown on German TV is a good question? Maybe it was due to Political Correctness at the time? I mean there was a certain ‘Star Trek’ episode that was not seen in Germany until the 1980’s and even then it came with a warning. Another reason for missing episodes is that maybe all the German Actors needed to dub the shows were not available?

whoooo sounds like interesting times ahead in season 4- Gilby, Lee&Amanda has said she can’t answer why without being spoilery – so she’s going to share her thoughts with us once the walk is up to it and she is able to. I’ll be looking forward to hearing your thoughts on L&A’s ideas when we get to them 🙂

Maybe it was due to Political Correctness at the time?
That might be one aspect of it – and mostly true for S1-3 – but I think in S4 we have also an other (second) aspect. Although some of the missing eps in S4 are due to Political Correctness (Suitable for Framing [ep 20]) I can think of at least 4 eps fitting my theory.
Well, we’ll have to wait and see… 😉

Well, I think S4 has more excellent episodes than any season except S1 so I’m looking forward to it. I love the first 3 episodes, and I think there are some gems hiding in this season.
My questions:
Will Dotty finally find a nice man without a link to national security?
Will Jamie take on Phillip and win?

Hooray! I don’t remember much about season 4 except the highlights and the relationship pacing seemed all over the place, but I think putting unfinished business first will do a lot to fix that. (And I am a little sad this is the final season, but look forward to revisiting season one)

Thanks for the great introduction. Am I excited for season 4? Sadly, no. I haven’t seen it for a few years but I can remember it quite well, I can even remember my reactions and puzzlement when it aired back in the day. However I will try very hard to put all my preconceptions to one side and just enjoy the walk as it unfolds. There are good episodes and I have no doubt that you will find gold nuggets in all the episodes. I know there are big fans of this season as well and I am open to being converted.
I am ready looking forward to the re walking of season one (my favourite season) but I am sure that is a long way off.
I loved the questions which I presume are rhetorical?
The change in episode order is a good idea. I think they liked to open with a ‘stronge’ episode hence the episode reordering of seasons 2,3 and 4.

Thanks for your honesty! I think many of us will have similar feelings.
I mentioned over at Neds (on the do I swap stemwinder/unfinished business thread) that I had some trepidation about it.
Since finishing season 3, I’ve been working through this and preparing myself for season 4.
As you say, fandom has been negative about it as a whole at times..
whoooo this sounds fascinating! I look forward to hearing of your reactions! It will be interesting to see if your experience of any moments or episodes will have changed over the years..
I think we’ll find the gold nuggets together! And.. we may even end up creating some of our own just by walking through them together.

I will try to not dwell on the really lame scenes quite so much. it is what it is, and I’m glad that the folks here all love the show, but also don’t take it so seriously that we can’t call something lame if we think it is lame 🙂 I think that eases the trepidation for me. we don’t need to pretend season 4 is sheer brilliance 100% of the time.. we have a laugh about it, maybe even enjoy that smk gave something a go, even if it didn’t work.. lol. I’m sure we’ll be discussing this sort of thing as we go along 🙂
But we love these characters, and there will be much to like also..
Lastly, as I mentioned this on the Neds thread so I won’t expand on this here much – I’ll just add that I really respect KJ for the courage she demonstrated as she continued to work while dealing with her cancer diagnosis – I want to honour that by walking through the season, and as you say Michele, together enjoying all the golden nuggets right to the end of the show.
LOL yes they are absolutely rhetorical at this stage! 🙂 Season 4 is a big mystery.. I’m looking forward to having the mystery be revealed!
