Back at IFF, and Billy is not happy!
Judging by the clothes, it’s the next day.. [Lee and Amanda have really co-ordinated their colours today ]
Billy: I’m ready to hear an explanation now.
[LOL seems Billy was too mad to earlier! ]
Amanda: Sir, we could apologise to Mr Blackthorne, Sir.
Lee: No, we can’t.
(Lee doesn’t look up)
Billy: The complaint did not come from Blackthorne; it came from the Secret Service. They checked with Sinclair after you left yesterday…
…You never (!!) spoke with him about the death threats…
…Now…I don’t like my agents to abuse their security privileges. I don’t like getting complaints from Treasury before I’ve had my morning coffee!..
[and donut.]
…And I don’t want friction between agencies. So! Unless you have a legitimate concern about Sinclair’s security,…
…AND CAN TELL ME WHAT IT IS, steer clear of the Blackthorne estate!…
…Understood?
[Papa Billy is really really mad! Now Amanda is an agent (officially) Billy is not sparing her his anger!]
Amanda: Yes, Sir. [Quick, someone get Billy his coffee!]
(Lee doesn’t answer. He lets Amanda answer for him.)
[I suspect maybe he’s not able to]
Billy: I think this agency has been bruised enough for one day…
[Whoa, and it’s morning!]
…Do me a favour. Just…
(Billy turns away from them)
– go away for a while.
[I do believe Billy just put them in time out tee hee. Billy’s face here is awesome!!!! I think he’s really upset that his kids have misbehaved!! And.. he can’t understand why! And.. they aren’t telling!!! ]
Lee: Yeah, sure.
[LOL code for: happy to!]
(Lee doesn’t hesitate to start heading for the door.. Amanda meanwhile is worried)
Amanda mumbles: Yes, Sir.
(she leaves also)
[Yep, best you get out of there.. Billy isn’t in the mood to mend things just yet Amanda! ]
The scene ends here.
[Have we seen Billy this angry before? Call me crazy – but Billy’s anger seems a little over the top. I guess abusing your security pass is the worst crime ever?! ] Thoughts?
Moving on.. and back to chez Lee!
Whooo seems there’s an agent patrolling the perimeter! We’ll have to keep a look out for this Mr Walker when we see Lee’s apartment in future!
(We zoom in on the second floor)
[– i.e. one level up. which I realise in some parts of the world is considered level 1! Sooo go with what works for you ]
Amanda: I wish you weren’t determined to go through with this.
Lee: We should have done this yesterday.
[We hear these two lines, before we get to see what’s going on in Lee’s apartment. Call me crazy but I suspect they were totally playing with the viewers here.. Teasers!!! Maybe it’s just me falling into the gutter.. but.. Remember yesterday?
Hooo haaaaa…
So here, we are left to wonder if maybe Lee and Amanda are acting on their attraction to one another today which they didn’t do yesterday!! I wondered with the earlier scene if they were playing with the audience and hinting that maybe Amanda came to Lee in his bed to provide some particular form of comfort called backgammon on smk tee hee..
Here – with this teasing edit and exterior shot with these two lines? I’m thinking they were totally aiming to suggest there’s backgammon going on (hey I’m curious, is there an equivalent to the coded meaning of ‘backgammon’ in German?)
So, we finally see what’s going on in Lee’s apartment! Looks like Lee and Amanda are getting ready to turn Lee’s brain inside out like a wet paper bag or something…
[No Lee and Amanda on the bed! Just Lee!
But.. I do agree with Lee – they should have done this yesterday, because anything would have been better than yesterday and going to Blackthorne’s!]
Lee: Now I’ll go under pretty fast. You got that list?
Amanda: Yeah, it’s right here.
Lee: All right, now, remember, if my temperature spikes suddenly or if I start to get violent, you bring me right out of this.
[Oh dear, violent? this is sounding worse and worse! Lee may be trained to use it, but is Amanda trained to support him in using it?!]
Amanda very quietly: Yeah.
Lee: If I start to convulse…
Amanda: Please don’t do that.
[rofl! I love it! Good to see Amanda acknowledge this is an extremely risky thing they are about to do! a great gag!]
Lee takes a deep breath and leans back. I guess he’s already been administered the drug.
Lee mumbles: See you later….
Amanda: Lee? Can you hear me?
Lee: Mm-hm.
Amanda: Do you know who I am?
[oh my gosh. This moment! I’d forgotten this moment!!]
Lee reacts to this question immediately.
With a smile!
And.. a bigger smile!
Lee quietly: Heh. My Amanda.
Amanda quietly smiles to herself.. clearly pleased with this answer
But, she has a job to do here, and puts that to one side..
She focuses on the list.
Amanda (calmly): All right. I want you to look at your dream.
Lee: Hm-hm.
Amanda: Where are you?
(Scene alternates between the present day and a black and white scene.)
Big Lee: I’m down in the basement. (Big Lee sounds a little distressed as he remembers) I’m not supposed to be down here.
[rofl. Little Lee the rule breaker, who would have guessed?! ]
Amanda: Do you see the locked door?
(I think Amanda may be reaching out to hold Big Lee’s hand here.. but we can’t see.. what do you think?)
Little Lee: Dad?
Lee: Yes.
[Ummm.. Little Lee is suddenly wearing his pj’s and dressing gown again.. a second ago he wasn’t.. okay it’s a dream- it doesn’t have to completely add up!]
Little Lee: Open the door!
(Little Lee pulls on the door, but it won’t budge. Big Lee breaths harder)
Amanda: What’s behind it?
(We see little Lee banging on the closed door)
Lee quietly: Mommy and Daddy…
Lee mumbles: …It’s, it’s safe.
[me thinks watching Big Lee remember Little lee is a little weird. lol. I prefer to watch the flashback rather than watch Lee speaking like a little boy. I think I’m suppose to find it touching but I’m not feelin it lol! don’t mind me!]
Amanda whispers to herself as she writes a note: There’s a room in the basement.
Lee (louder): I can’t tell. I…
…It’s supposed to be a secret…
(Amanda immediately reaches out to comfort and reassure)
…Hmmm. Hmmmm.
Amanda: Shh, shh, OK, you don’t have to. OK? You’re back upstairs now… [Gosh she was pretty quick to rescue him from some distress there.. I wonder if that was his instruction to her. Don’t push?]
(Lee seems calmer)
…Uhh, you’re in the hallway and the monster’s there.
Immediately, big Lee’s breathing speeds up again.
Back to the red hallway…
and the monster approaches little Lee while breathing heavily.
Little Lee: Open the door!
(Big Lee is sounding a little more distressed)
Amanda: He can’t hurt you because, uh, he can’t move. Because he’s frozen. Can’t move and he can’t hurt you.
[Amanda seems to be improvising here – better than reading off some list! Lee needed strategies to remember and still feel safe here. Amanda IMHO nails it!]
(Lee calms)
Amanda (quietly): All right, what does it look like?
Big Lee: It doesn’t have a face.
(As Big Lee replies, we see Little Lee again, for a second there he seems to actually open the door. but there’s no reference to it and the door is closed again immediately)
Amanda: It’s gone. The monster’s gone…
…When I count to three, you’ll wake up and you’ll feel refreshed, and good as if you’d had a long night’s sleep. You feeling all right?
Lee nods: Hmm, I’m, I’m fine.
(Amanda has a look on her face here.. lol! what is she thinking? What’s she gonna do next?!)
Mischievous Amanda!
Amanda: Do you have time for just one more questi-?
She cuts herself off! and quickly says: –Never mind. Look,…
(Amanda gets back on task here.)
(slowly): ….OK. One…two…three.
(Lee opens his eyes)
It takes Lee a moment but he clearly remembers what the drug session revealed..
[Yep, Lee and Amanda had a drug session. I never thought I’d say that! 🙂 ]
Lee: The room in the basement.
Lee immediately tries to get up and Amanda holds him down onto the bed [Hmm.. this is getting more interesting ROFL!! this time it’s Lee’s turn for his legs to go flying!
Oh and I can see a picture frame on his bedside table from this angle.. ]
Amanda: Hey, wait a minute you can’t get up. You’ve got almost a whole cc of that stuff in you.
Amanda: Now the manual says you gotta stay down for 12 hours. Now come on.
Lee: You just help me or I’m gonna do this on my own.
Lee says this pretty matter of fact. Amanda’s been through a similar scenario with him before.. Lee has an emotional need to solve a case and he won’t rest even if he really needs to (You know -The Eyes have It)
I think it looks like Amanda has realised at the end here: He’s going to do it anyway, so you may as well just help him!
though hopefully she can at least help him to avoid any further ‘lets go abuse our security clearances and visit Blackthorne’ plans!
The scene ends here.
Anyone not swoon at the ‘My Amanda’ moment??!!!
And.. what was Amanda going to ask Lee and she changed her mind?! Interesting that she has a question she is wanting to know the answer to….
I love that she almost did that. Amanda is a very ethical person, but.. she is a human being still and is tempted! But.. she says no to herself here IMHO – because Lee has put great trust in her by going under like this, and she wouldn’t be able to live with herself if she didn’t cherish and protect that trust. She’d never want to risk damaging it. Well at least, this is what I’m thinking at the moment.. what do you all make of it?
Thoughts everyone? No need to load up on promazepam – share what you like freely! haaaaa..
Oh, that “My Amanda” had me squealing (and my dog looking at me wondering if I’d gone off the deep end!) So awesome!
I love that first scene — they look like two kids caught in the principal’s office and actually, exactly how I would picture a young Lee and a young Amanda in their school days. She’d be a nervous wreck and he’d be determined that he’d done the right thing and shouldn’t be in trouble.

Ohhhhhh “my Amanda”…. oooohhh (swoon, faint, sigh…) and that smile!!!!! I have always LOVED it when someone was “possessive” with me by calling me “my ——“, like “my sunshine” or “my love”. It gives a sense of belonging. By Lee saying “my Amanda”, he’s saying that she is his… she’s his love. She belongs in his heart.
As for the question she wanted to ask, but didn’t, I think she was going to ask him how he feels about her. I love the look on her face right before she starts to ask. It’s brilliant!

Because I see this one as coming after the Stems, I saw Billy’s anger stemming from the fact that the two of them are showing a disturbing tendency to go rogue and he’s tired of bearing the brunt of it even though it worked out last time. And Amanda is a brand-new full-time agent as of the end of the Stems so it makes sense to me that she’d be even more scared of losing her new status that she worked so hard to (finally!) earn. Billy even calls her one of his agents here (squeeee!!) – I’m curious how those of you who see this coming before the Stems understand that?
Love, love, love the “my Amanda”! How could we not?! We’ve waited so long for this, we eat up every morsel, don’t we? 😁
As for what Amanda was going to ask, I think it’s something about how he sees their relationship playing out. (Again, putting it after the Stems makes such a difference to my perspective here – sorry to keep beating that dead horse!) I think she was going to ask something like where he saw their relationship going, whether he was really in it for the long haul, if he would ever be interested in marriage, whether he could see himself as a step-father to the boys, something along those lines.

I think Billy was so upset because he doesn’t understand what they are doing. And they messed with another agency and took liberties that Billy can’t fathom the origins of. But Lee is very teenage boy here. I know. I can recognize that look from a mile a way. I wonder if Amanda is worried. Nothing like getting caught between a teenage boy and an angry father, especially as a girlfriend…
But then, “My Amanda!!!!” I love that moment. I mean that just says it all. And yet Amanda can’t really spend any time thinking about that right then …(Hmm, I may need to spend some time letting her digest that one in Window Reflections).
So Lee can remember what occurred during the drug session huh? Then he can remember calling Amanda “My Amanda” and the fact that she had almost asked him something not discussed. I bet he spends some time mulling over that one after this whole deal about his parents is settled.
I also find his line, “You just help me or I’m gonna do this on my own.” very interesting. He is really asking and depending on her help now. She has offered it when he didn’t know how to ask it and he has accepted it as well as asked for her trust. I think there is a lot in the fact that he says this, even if he is still groggy. He will do it on his own, he always has, but I think its still interesting that he is telling/asking her to help him. I couldn’t imagine Lee saying that out loud earlier. Even in ATWAS he tried to get her to not follow him in the elevator, even though he seemed half hearted about it. I don’t know, that line just stuck out to me.

Love Billy here! He is acting like the boss for sure!
Bwahahaha! Love the donut comment. I thought Billy was a tea drinker? Not the baddie kind, but the kind that uses a stopwatch to steep it 😉
Amanda’s reaction to Billy’s dressing her and Lee down is interesting. She is definitely acting like the scared employee who knows they did wrong and is just hoping that the punishment isn’t too severe. After she and Lee leave Billy’s office, I can imagine how she must have felt, but I bet Lee was there to sooth Amanda and let he know that Billy was just blowing steam and had to act the part of the boss and let them have it. I’m guessing Lee knows that since all Billy did was to tell them to get out of his sight for a while, that no further trouble was going to come. That is the only way I can guess that Amanda seems to be okay in going along with Lee’s scheme rather than trying to talk him out of it. Or maybe they just decided not to film that part. 😉
I don’t think Billy’s reaction is too OTT – maybe he’s putting on a bit of an act at the office so everyone there can see and hear that Scarecrow can’t just do what he wants and get away with it without at least getting yelled at. But I enjoy this scene too much to think it’s over the top.
I guess Lee can just decide when the drug is going to kick in on him? And Amanda can just bring him out of it like he was hypnotized? Hmmm…isn’t that very convenient. I always thought that was a little weird. And Big Lee speaking like a little boy is a bit weird. I’m not touched by it either.
I think I agree with you, iwsod, on why Amanda stops herself from asking Lee any personal questions. I’m guessing her unanswered question was a personal one. I think she was going to ask him if he was seeing anyone else (to satisfy his, er, needs) because she and Lee have not (in my world) crossed the bedroom border yet. I think her ethics keep her from giving in to the temptation to ask. And after he wakes up and remembers their “drug session”, I’m sure she’s glad she didn’t ask because I don’t know that he would have liked that. Breaking into his apartment wasn’t crossing any lines but probing the interior of his brain might be.

enjoyed your thoughts on Amanda’s experience of getting in trouble here.. I think Amanda does it because Lee needs her to and she can’t not do it. If that makes sense?
yeah looks like a number of us thought it wasn’t OTT and some of us did. That’s cool! 🙂
You know Billy’s reactions would make a lot more sense to me if he knew this was about Lee’s parents – and it was all personal..
I thought Billy was OTT but I still found it funny anyway 😉

I have always thought that Amanda was going to ask a personal question. I think his “My Amanda” would have giver her some context to ask him about them. I wonder if the interpersonal angst that I felt between them at the beginning of this episode was still on her mind. I have always wondered if she might have been contemplating asking him if he loved her. or if that was too blatant, then something that could have given her some indication of that.

I loved the ‘My Amanda’ part, I always thought it was the best part of the episode. What mystified me is after all the risk getting the drug, and the terrible potential side-effects, that was it for the questions? She goes through the questions so fast & gets rid of the monster really quickly without asking for more…Was he only able to be under for a minute & that’s why she rushed through? I would of liked more info. And I would have loved to hear the end of her question; that would have been getting their money’s worth!

I think you’re right, she was probably concerned about the effects of the drug and wanted to keep it short. I liked her talking him through the bad dream. I’m wondering if she’s dealt with a lot of nightmares from the boys before and helped them through theirs in a similar way.

I’m wondering if Billy’s little tirade wasn’t more for Amanda’s benefit than Lee’s. He’s seen Lee break the rules and do his own thing, plenty of times. But Amanda is supposed to be the one sort of keeping Lee in line, not joining in with breaking the rules. Billy is the one who thought that Amanda would be good for Lee and help keep him in line. And she has been good for him. However, Amanda has obviously been in training and becoming more of an agent. Maybe Billy felt he needed to bring her back in a little and remind her of how they are supposed to behave. Such a difference from when he was having to referee between Lee and Amanda during Wrong Number.
I think that after Lee’s visit with Blackthorne he’s feeling more and more as if his parents were maligned by him and that Blackthorne is not this great hero that everyone thinks he is. Therefore Lee doesn’t feel he needs to apologize, at least not until he has a full picture of what is going on. Maybe Lee was hoping to get Blackthorne to recant that report and when it didn’t happen it aggravated him. I have a few thoughts about Lee and his behavior thus far, but need to wait a little longer.
My goodness, Amanda is a strong woman and can focus! While I know that she has had time to build up her defenses when the swoon attacks, the “my Amanda” was all kinds of swoony delight. And his smile was just icing on the cake. It’s amazing to think that he wanted no parts of Amanda in the beginning and now he refers to her as his. Just, wow! I wonder if this was the first time Lee said this or Amanda heard this.
When I first watched this, back in the 80s I thought that Amanda was going to ask Lee if he loved her, but she restrained herself.

Ah Valerie! Yet again you’ve got me thinking!
This here got me thinking:
What does everyone think? Is Billy now seeing Amanda as the one to keep Lee in line? It’s possible things are in transition here because Amanda is a newly ID badged’ agent.. so is this how Billy is seeing Amanda now?
My understanding was that Billy thought Amanda was a settling influence on Lee – but he did not hold her responsible for Lee’s behaviour or decisions.
To be honest, I don’t think I’d like it if he did. Lee is his own man, and I don’t think Amanda should be held responsible for his actions. That bugs me! He is a much more experienced agent than her, so for her to be held responsible bugs me!
Is there some kind of thing with work partners – like with police partners or whatever, where if one partner stuffs up they both get in trouble?
Maybe I don’t like it, but if Amanda is as in trouble as Lee (LOL) maybe it’s a sign that Lee and Amanda are now truly work partners and Billy holds them responsible as a team?
I guess I can get on board with their partnership meaning they are equally responsible.. rather than Amanda being responsible for keeping Lee in line..
Hmm this is all pretty interesting and new! I’ll be interested to see how this plays out as season 4 continues..
Thoughts anyone?

iwsod — My thoughts, in a nutshell, are that Billy is frustrated because he doesn’t yet see the whole picture and, what he does see, is not good.
What Billy knows: (1) the Treasury Dept & Secret Service instituted a justifiable backlash against The Agency for Lee & Amanda’s visit to the Blackthorne estate under false pretenses; (2) McCrary contacted Billy because Lee was not responding to a CIA Agent’s repeated messages; (3) after ordering Lee & Amanda to back off Blackthorne, here they are spending/wasting Agency time & resources collecting information on Blackthorne; (4) two of his top agents are just plain acting suspicious, behaving out of character and he doesn’t have a clear reason why; and (5) Amanda, who Billy championed in order to influence Lee to be more cautious and thoughtful, is now showing signs of the reverse (Lee’s influence rubbing off on Amanda).
What Billy does NOT know: (1) Lee & Amanda stole a vial of promazatham (?sp) from The Agency drug dispensary; (2) Lee used it on himself for personal reasons, potentially placing his own life-health-effectiveness as an Agent in danger; (3) Lee used his status at The Agency and leverage with a CIA operative to initiate a CIA search for personal reasons; and (4) there are more actions to come that Billy will not approve, but we must hold off until the story unfolds.

Whooo I like a good summary! thanks Nancy! It is pretty handy to bring it all together!
Billy being frustrated sounds good to me. But then why does he just have a temper tantrum about it? lol. Umm Billy could ask some questions.. or maybe order Lee to tell him what is going on or something. It just feels to me like there is a step missing in all this..
All Billy’s unknowns sound good to me. Though I see Lee as blackmailing McCrary because he knows he cheated on his wife, rather than leveraging his status at the agency.. I think this is standard in the spy bizz.. but that’s just my own view. And I don’t think there was a CIA search, McCrary pulled a file as a favour.. so I don’t find that controversial – but I did find it really interesting that Lee was using blackmail – when that was exactly what his parents tried with Blackthorne..
Further along – how is this summary looking?

Congratulations Canadians! Our dear neighbor to the north! I led group tours for a decade and delighted in observing my fellow Americans, who had traveled all over the world, as they fell in love with the Canadian people (friendly/helpful) and the stunningly beautiful scenery (especially in the Maritime Provinces & Canadian Rockies). They even enjoyed the colorful, artistic bills (still have an old C$20 bill with Moraine Lake) and the funny names for the $1 and $2 coins. “All this in our own backyard and we never knew,” was a frequent comment. May the Dominion of Canada ever remain “glorious and free.”

hi everyone,
Just thought I’d mention – I think Lee’s journey so far in this episode, in terms of opening up himself and trusting Amanda, has been awesome.
We’ve gone from Lee shoving Amanda out the door, to him basically opening himself up to her completely – trusting her alone to monitor this drug session (lol), and ask questions – when he was completely defenseless and vulnerable like this speaks very loudly for the trust he has in Amanda.
Now he has chosen to trust Amanda – he is 100% trusting her with everything! Wow.. a huge deal for mr lone wolf super spy to take this leap!! [Maybe this explains why they didn’t go straight home to do their drug session, and instead they went to blackthorne’s first before taking this step with the drug?]
Okay I really need to get on with my work day here.. gotta close JWWM so I am not tempted and can get some work done- haaaa.. bye guys!

Question for anyone who’s interested..
When Amanda suggests apologising to Mr Blackthorne, why does Lee answer ‘no we can’t’?
This is before they know Blackthorne didn’t complain.
is this a clue that maybe Lee doesn’t trust him? thoughts anyone?
bye!

I think that Lee doesn’t feel he owes Mr Blackthorne an apology. He was polite and respectful to him and if you leave out the fact that he gained entry by false pretenses and that he gained information in an underhand way, he didnt’ go anything wrong.
Or he might just feel that Blackthorne is guilty of something and hence, not owed an apology.

Yes I think the only thing they would need to apologise for would be the entry under false pretenses..
but I found it interesting Lee said they can’t apologise for that.. curious to hear what others think..

I agree with Michele’s assessment and would add that Lee seems uneasy in Blackthorne’s presence.
It’s interesting that Lee had Jennie’s file on top, which shows the source being Joseph Blackthorne; whereas Matt’s file shows the source being Thomas Blackthorne. So, if Joseph isn’t his father, he must be the twin hurling accusations against women! How I wish we were shown the date of these accusations against Matt & Jennie Stetson!

rofl. Your too funny Nancy! What a shamoozle 🙂 I’m pretending the first document had the source redacted. as it flippin should have been. Usually I’d put this kind of thing down to smk being watched in the 80’s with no freeze framing.. but I could see plain as day the name Joseph Blackthorne on that report without stopping the show. I’m gonna blame this on the props department for not reading the script 😉

Well, my blame remains on J&T: the trigger-happy, power-hungry, money-grabbing Blackthorne twins. I’ll even double down and bet one of them drove the truck that caused the death of Lee’s parents. Can’t wait for our dynamic duo to avenge the murder and character assassination of Matt & Jennie Stetson!

Another interesting thing: In the script there is just one Blackthorn, namely Joseph.
So, does this tell us, they changed the guys name from Joseph (too saintly?) into Thomas (the doubter/doubtful – or in this case even better the dubious?) as a last minute decision? And simply overlooked to change it in Jennies file, too?

I think there was more than just a vulnerable Lee in that interview with Blackthorne. I sort of got the vibe that he was letting that be his cover persona but he was evaluating him too. I think he came away not trusting that what you could see from Blackthorne was all there was to him. He doesn’t trust him.

There is also Lee’s future disclosure (hint: the faceless monster of his nightmares) that is, for me, the main reason he is uncomfortable in Blackthorne’s presence.

You bet it is because it’s on the eve of a critical election where US interests are clearly at stake! When Lee and Amanda claim to have information on death threats against Rene Sinclair, but they never share it with either Sinclair or the United States Secret Service protecting Sinclair … well that puts Billy and The Agency in a real tough spot if Rene Sinclair is murdered. The suspicion that one Federal Agency is withholding potentially vital information from those actively assigned to protect Sinclair has to be a huge deal. Billy knows how he would react if the tables were turned … and it ain’t pretty!

… and me thinks Billy is truly mystified (and frustrated?) by Lee and Amanda’s bizarre behavior. As yet, I believe he hasn’t a clue about what has Lee so off his game. Even Amanda isn’t her usual self in how she interacts with Billy.
The faint touch of humor I see in Billy comes from Amanda’s behavior. Though Billy isn’t sure exactly WHAT they’re up to, he does tend to trust Amanda’s judgment and intuition. Seeing Amanda backing Lee up 100% warms his heart and he’s anticipating a good laugh when the truth finally come to the surface.

It would have been so easy for Lee and Amanda to validate their cover by asking Sinclair some questions while they were there. Needing a “cover” to keep even the Agency from finding out what they’re doing seems a little backwards, but it’s my no means the first time they’ve gone against the system, and I’d have expected them to be a little more used to it by now.

Two observations: (1) Look carefully at the person walking past Lee’s apartment building. I think the dark band on the left wrist is the leather handle of a leash and the lead length is visible, too, stretching back down behind Mr. “Dog” Walker. The dog itself is behind the front end of Amanda’s car; hopefully not marking her tire!
(2) Lee has one seriously weird and magical long oval mirror in the corner of his bedroom. The reflection in it is of Lee’s bed; however, there’s a striped blanket at the foot of his bed in the mirror, but not on the foot of his bed in the foreground. Even when Lee gets agitated and raises one leg, it is not reflected in that mirror. Creepy!

Hmm, perhaps Lee can’t be seen in a mirror…?
Ahem, no, I guess that would be even creepier, huh?

Like he doesn’t really exist …?
That goes way beyond creepy to downright heartbreaking!

rofl. okay! we’ll keep an eye out for Mr Dog Walker! 🙂 and his territory marking side kick 😉 maybe it’s goldie and she/he’s found a new home where he/she will feel safe and not like he/she is about to be stuffed!
I figured it was angled toward the other side of the bed.
Very creepy!
It could be that they put a picture of the bedroom there to avoid any reflections of cameras or lighting – and it doesn’t actually reflect anything (like that empty hallway in IFF!).
So out of character for Lee to have a non functioning mirror- rofl! He must have a massive one in the bathroom and do his hair in there 🙂

Throughout the series, they’ve done a poor job of hiding cameras, lights, people who shouldn’t be on camera in the background, etc. Why start doing it now?
You’re right about Lee’s massive mirror in the bathroom — with another behind him to see how his locks look in back!

LOL. maybe they learned their lesson? 🙂
Or, maybe with KJ directing that stuff actually gets done right?

Ah yes, Kate is directing … great point!
I guess we’ll have to wait and see how the fourth season unfolds before climbing out on that lesson learned limb.

Yeah I suspect that limb isn’t going to support much weight! 🙂

Ahh, I’m so happy the goldie has found a new home and very relieved that his fur is now not in front of the fireplace! Puhhh…
I find it very sweet that Amanda was in temptation. I would have been it probably also though I am actually a not very curious person. But this opportunity! 🙂
At first I thought she was asking him about this circus twins. But I believe, “Do you love me?” Is probably much closer.
But iwsod question “Do these parachute skirts make my butt look big?” is also possible. Haha, thats cracks me up!

Thank you Michele and iwsod for the kind words. Lee Stetson definitely gets the lion’s share of my concentration and skill. It’s such a blast to watch and discuss S&MK (3 decades after it went off the air) with fun, knowledgeable people who still appreciate this show!

And.. what was Amanda going to ask Lee and she changed her mind?! Interesting that she has a question she is wanting to know the answer to….
I guess she either wanted to know why he called her ‘My Amanda’ (although she is, isn’t she?), or if he really thinks of her as ‘his Amanda’.
OR
She planed on digging even deeper and was going to ask him about his feelings for her. Something into the ‘Do you love me? ‘ direction.
I’m quite happy she stopped herself and didn’t push him too much. 🙂
I guess she knows he just needs his time to be ready to tell her – it’s not easy for him. As much ‘girls’ already went through his life he never felt anything like this for anyone before – not even for Dorothy (if they’ve ever been romantically involved – I’m still not sure about that) or ‘Evil Eva’.
I’m still convinced he never said those three little magic words to any woman, yet (and I don’t count his mother!!).
I love Lee calling her ‘my Amanda’ and the BIG GRIN coming along with his statement. 😀

I always thought she wanted to ask Lee if he loved her. And I see this as an ad lib by KJ (is it in the script?) The “my Amanda” just melts my heart….

Yep, it’s in the script.
And Lee’s ‘my Amanda’ is also in it. 😀

I’m thinking she knows where the ‘my Amanda’ comes from at this point 🙂
Do you love me is a good one – she hasn’t heard those three magic words yet!
Hmmm.. I’m going to guess:
Do these parachute skirts make my butt look big?
or..
Can my codename be MyAmanda?!
I wonder if Lee has told Amanda what Blackthorne said to him..
So true! I think the big grin is just as good as the words ‘my Amanda’ 🙂

I also thought she was going to ask something along the lines of ‘what are your feelings for Amanda’ (which used to puzzle me when this was not the first episode of the season and I hope this is not in breach of the anti spoiler rules)

LOL hiya Michele. I’m sure for us all there is stuff coming up in this ep which we see differently when before the stems than after..
We will come back to Unfinished business at the end of stem II to explore this – how I’m not sure yet. very open to ideas.. but hang in there – I’m looking forward to discussing these different experiences!
Can I suggest you make a note of these things that you don’t share to avoid spoilers (and thank you for doing that by the way 🙂 ) – so that when the time comes when we can talk about it, and these ideas and thoughts are not lost or forgotten, but shared with us all?
It’s going to be a few months before we get to the end of stem II, so I know my memory won’t hold up to that kind of time frame 😉

Ohh, I could come up with two or three questions even if UB was meant to be after the ‘Stems’… 😉

(hey I’m curious, is there an equivalent to the coded meaning of ‘backgammon’ in German?)
Honestly – I have to go back to one of those eps where they’re talking about ‘backgammon’; I really don’t remember.
Do you remember the ep where Lee and Francine talked about their litttle game of ‘backgammon’ – or any other where they talk about it? Could you (or anyone else) tell me which one it was, please? I’ll look it up then.

Ahhh, I found it, it was in ‘Remembrance of things past’ when Lee and Francine discussed ‘backgammon’ in Billy’s office.
In German Francine calls it (tada) BACKGAMMON.
Yes, we also know that (board) game and we also call it ‘backgammon’.
Any other eps, where they’re directly talking about some bed activities called ‘backgammon’? Just for some cross references… 😉
LikeLiked by 1 person
No it was a one time joke because Francine starts to say someone is good in bed and stops at the first letter and says backgammon instead. It’s us fans who have run and run and run with that joke.

Ohhh, OK.
Then that’s it.
Backgammon (English) = Backgammon (German)

I’m thinking the same as clagjanet – it was a one off reference in smk.
But – I did hear this also being used in a random episode of love boat I watched once. The doc was talking in front of the captain’s young daughter – so had to refer to ‘backgammon’ wink wink.
I thought it was hilarious to see it somewhere else – but I have no idea if it was also a random one off or if there was some kind of wide usage of the euphemism. LOL it’s not really something I’d be looking to investigate.. I may find out more than I want to if I search for it soooo moving on from that one! 🙂
Thanks for sharing the german version L&A 🙂
