11/21 Season Four, Episode One: Stemwinder I

We cut to inside Sonja’s place.. Brace yourselves! Stem I.avi_001283817
We start with a close up on the romantic props.. whooooo there’s even caviar!
Lee and Sonja are dancing. Ugh.. How many other women do we have to watch Lee dance with before we see him and Amanda dance again?! I’m over it.. enough Sonja!
Sonja: Oh… hmm… ohh… You’re teasing me, aren’t you?
Lee: Mmm…. Maybe.
Sonja: You’ve been teasing me for two hours.
Lee: Mm-hmm….
Stem I.avi_001296930
Sonja: The champagne…
Lee: Yeah.
[Whoa.. that’s some massive ‘wings’ Sonja has on her outfit there. How appropriate..]Stem I.avi_001298131
Sonja: …The music…I can’t stand it.
Lee: Well, maybe this will help…
(Lee hands Sonja the envelope. Without a word, she takes it and turns to put down her glass and look at the contents.
While she does that, Lee goes to tap tap on the mike to let Amanda know he’s okay. I think that’s what that button is!
Stem I.avi_001308641
but it seems Sonja turns around too quickly and he runs out of time to do it. So he puts it back in his pocket)
[But why he can’t tap tap it in his pocket I don’t know.]
Sonja: The frequencies to Stemwinder.
Lee: Yeah.
Stem I.avi_001313546
Sonja: You did get them! Was it difficult?…. Ohhhh, just like… falling into bed.
We cut back to Amanda. She’s lovin this. Not.
Stem I.avi_001325558
Sonja: That reminds me… The other thing I wanted this evening?Stem I.avi_001326960
They start with the kissing.. yeah. enough! I’m over this! Winking smile
Lee: Mmm?
Sonja: Mm-hmm.
[Iwsod says: Gag!!!]
(Going with KC’s description again..
A door is opened by Alexi. He is holding the taser and walks quickly through the room.
Stem I.avi_001329662
He moves behind Lee and holds the stunner [taser] to Lee’s neck;
Stem I.avi_001331865
we hear a crackling noise and Lee flinches and groans then collapses into Alexi’s arms.
[Sonja is unaffected. Miracle! The Russians seem to have invented a stun gun that only stuns the person directly touched. Yep, they’ve worked out how to stop the electricity from flowing through Lee and into Sonja also. I guess Alexi is known as the sorcerer! 😉
This is super lame! At the same time.. I think a stun gun and being kissed by Sonja would be equally unpleasant Winking smile ahem.. ]
Stem I.avi_001333466
Alexi drags Lee over to an armchair and drops him into it while Sonja watches. Alexi reaches into Lee’s outer jacket pocket and pulls out the clicker device [with keys attached] and carefully hands it to Sonja.Stem I.avi_001338171 Sonja holds the device in front of her as she speaks.)Stem I.avi_001345879
Sonja: Poor baby—you look so tired. Come with me… I’ve got just what you need.
[We see Amanda react to this line – why didn’t she hear the crackling and the cry of pain? didn’t sound romantic at all..  lol just what does she think is going on?! 😉 did I hear that or am I imagining things?! ]

(Alexi opens a small box, pulls out a hypodermic needle and a small vial of a clear substance, then starts to fill the needle from the vial.) Thanks KC for the description! Back to my descriptions.. Stem I.avi_001355889
[All Amanda can hear is the sexy times music..]
(She taps on her earpiece..
Stem I.avi_001359492
Amanda turns over the ignition.. and the car clock shows it’s 12:10.)
[Uh oh. Pumpkin time!]
(Amanda gets her gun.)
[It’s a small one. Yep. A gun. Lee may need her and a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do!
Stem I.avi_001372872
Maybe he’s in real danger!
Or.. maybe Lee is in really serious trouble, and she needs to drag that Russian bacteria off of him! Winking smile
I’ll have to get use to action woman Amanda.. she couldn’t stay gun phobic forever I guess.. and I appreciate that the show lets Amanda’s character progress!
Hmm I’ll have to watch a few seasons of Charlie’s Angels to prepare myself! Okay focus iwsod! ]

(Back to KC’s description:
Amanda hurries up the stairs  and walks past a building corner and disappears from view.
Stem I.avi_001377077
Alexi appears around the corner, followed by Sonja supporting Lee.
Stem I.avi_001384784
Alexi motions with his hand to move forward; he and Sonja help a groggy-looking Lee.)Thanks again KC.. back to me!
Stem I.avi_001388888
(Alexi is pretty happy with himself.)
[Ugh. You know… the agency are looking like amateurs about now! Alexi has planned this well so far!
Whoa.. I think Alexi has helped himself to one of Lee’s jackets too!! ]
It looks like we go to a commercial break here.

Back from the break, sexy times music is still playing.
Amanda is sneaking around inside,
Stem-I.avi_001397097_thumb_thumb
gun drawn.
Stem-I.avi_001398098_thumb_thumb
[Yep. Amanda- with gun drawn!!! I include a few pics so we can get use to what this looks like 😉 ]Stem-I.avi_001400100_thumb_thumb
Amanda
: Okay, Lee—you’re caught! You can come on out! Stem-I.avi_001401101_thumb_thumb
[Amanda sounds mad! rofl at the image of gun totting jealous Amanda!
Does Amanda think Lee and Sonja are in bed? What do you think?
I think not.. I think this is Amanda playing the cover for a second here – her part in the Lisbon variation! But.. I don’t think she thought Lee had changed his mind and decided to go to bed with Sonja while Amanda listens in!! IMHO no way!]

There’s no answer from anyone… Amanda turns off the sexy times music being careful to leave no finger prints (which by the way, Alexi didn’t take care with!), and puts the earpiece back in again to see if this helps. Still nothing.
[Wha? the bed is right next to the living room/ kitchen – glad I didn’t know that before Winking smile ]
Stem-I.avi_001432832_thumb_thumb
Amanda finds no one in the bed.. and Lee’s mike/keys sitting on the bedside table.

She picks up the phone, again careful to avoid leaving fingerprints and punches in a number (why not use the car phone?!)
Stem-I.avi_001444944_thumb

Female Agent Voice: IFF…
Amanda: Ah, hello—this is Amanda King…
[Oh boo! that agency badge didn’t come with a code name??!!! lol. I really am hard to please aren’t I?! haaaa]
…The word is bluejeans… [Umm isn’t that two words?]
…Um… I’m on a public line; it’s not clean… [Uh huh. but umm isn’t there a ‘clean’ line in the corvette?!]

…Could you get me the night-duty officer, please? I have, ah, a condition one alert; agent in- in dire jeopardy.
Stem-I.avi_001463963_thumb
Female Agent Voice: One moment.
[Amanda lets out a big breath while she waits.]
Stem-I.avi_001465765_thumb
Billy
: Amanda, what’s the situation?
[Amanda snaps to attention when she hears Billy]Stem-I.avi_001468168_thumb
Amanda: Sir! I’m sorry, Sir. I asked for the night-duty officer.
Billy: Amanda, I thought this was condition one? What is your situation? Report!
Stem-I.avi_001472272_thumb
[oh dear, looks like Billy is at Dart’s office… I wonder what Alexi has gotten up to there for Billy to be there!]
Amanda: Uh, yes, Sir. Um, I’m in Sonja Chenko’s apartment; now Lee and Sonja are not here… he missed his last two check-ins, so I came in as backup. He said he’d be out at midnight and, well, he isn’t, so I thought something was pretty wrong.Stem-I.avi_001486052_thumb
Billy: You’re damn right there is….Stem-I.avi_001489556_thumb
(As Billy says this.. we see the dead body get wheeled past!) [A dead body??!!!]
…Why do you think I’m out of bed at 12:30 in the morning? Okay. A team of bloodhounds will be there in five minutes, and I want you to leave now and meet me back at the Agency.Stem-I.avi_001496363_thumb
(We find Francine and a bunch of agents are in Dart’s office.. Whooo that may be Duffy she’s talking to..)
Amanda: Sir, why don’t I stay here so that I can help them look for Lee?
Stem-I.avi_001496863_thumb
[Awh I think Amanda’s first concern is for Lee’s safety.. this is a new concept for her – Billy giving her an order and expecting her to follow it while Lee isn’t safe!]
Billy: Amanda, do it now! This is bad trouble, and I don’t want you out there alone. Move it out!Stem-I.avi_001503069_thumb
[Whooo hoo!!!! Billy is Boss!!!! Billy could have told Amanda to stay in the car! Winking smile ]
Amanda: Yes, Sir, I’m outta here. Goodbye.

[Amanda knows not to argue with that tone!] (she hangs up and heads out of there!)

Uh oh… Lee is in a lot of trouble!!!

  1. This is going to sound dumb, but I was actually surprised they had a stun gun back in the 1980s. I thought they were newer.

I think Amanda came in acting like she thought they were in bed for Sonya’s benefit. I think she knew something was wrong with Lee and wanted to figure out what.

Those make out scenes are revolting. I hate fastforwarding through anything when Lee is onscreen, but UGH! We didn’t need to see all of that for goodness’ sake. They could have shown less and let us assume what we wanted to.

  2. [I accidentally lost this comment earlier, sorry if posts twice:]
Starting with the moment Amanda comes in to find Lee and for the rest of the episode, I feel like you do when you’ve had a stomach bug, and you start to feel like you are ready to eat crackers again. Hopefully I’ll be up to chicken noodle soup by the end of the episode. 😉

Since I’m retyping this comment, it’s hard to remember exactly how I worded this. But I have always had such a desire for us to get to this point in the episode without having to endure the parts we’ve had to endure. And then I had a thought. Lee and Amanda have overcome so much together as partners. But this situation is so different, because now they are partners and in a new relationship with each other. Wouldn’t we all like to fast forward through the ick? Do we ever really face ick at a “good time”? It may feel unfair that Lee and Amanda get shoved into this mess – I mean, mission – at the beginning of the relationship that has taken three years to begin and already been through so many challenges. BUT!!! Doesn’t making it through the toughest situations in life make a relationship even stronger? And all that comes on the other side of the ick even sweeter and more special? So my level of appreciation for the moments after the Peackock Dance ends becomes even greater, knowing to the extent they (and my eyeballs) have been put to the test.

    1. You know, I appreciate this thought from a couple of years ago and am thankful to have read it again, because I had lost that perspective.

      Also, Iwsod wrote:

Yep, another Duffy sighting. That guy is everywhere.

  3. The whole peacock dance scenario is just so hard to watch. I’ll go along with Amanda’s sentiment from the night before that this is a drag.

I’m assuming that because of Amanda’s feelings about guns that she had to start with one that she’s most comfortable with. Although she was pretty handy with that rifle in Utopia Now. Was the gun in the glove compartment. Need to watch this again. I can’t even imagine Amanda’s stress levels right about now.

    1. hear hear Valerie! Very hard to watch! Great we can support each other through this! 🙂

hey great catch with the rifle in Utopia Now – I think Amanda was suddenly happy to have a gun because the baddies had interrupted that long awaited kiss between her and Lee. She was one cranky, frustrated gun totin lady! 😉

  4. I just have to say that I’m very impressed that Amanda is able to walk up and into Sonja’s apartment with no apparent limp or hunch. After all, she’s been sitting in the foot well area of the Vette’s front seat for 7 nights in row now hasn’t she???

  5. But why he can’t tap tap it in his pocket I don’t know.

That is just such a lame thing to have our Scarecrow do. I get that the audience needs to see him actually tap tapping to Amanda, but to do it like this when Sonja could so easily see him? Lee has been easy to dupe so far in this episode….they didn’t even need the Sorcerer to pull it off.

Amanda and the gun. Sigh. I don’t remember what I thought the first time I watched this episode. I’m guessing I thought it probably fit with Amanda’s new level of partnership with Lee on such an operation. But that gun? It looks like a little black squirt gun. I guess it could be enough to stop Sonja momentarily unless Amanda shot her in the eyeball or something. I know there are tiny guns – even smaller than these – that work, but the teeny tiny gun coupled with Amanda’s line “Okay, Lee—you’re caught! You can come on out!” makes Amanda look just a tad silly IMHO. It’s as if they’re still trying to portray Amanda as the housewife agent rather than the agent housewife. It doesn’t work for me and I think takes away from this episode.

Someone (sorry I forgot who and am too lazy to check) said that the writers did seem to be trying to get deep into espionage for this episode, and I agree, but the execution of the script is just falling a bit flat. I do know that the first time I watched this episode I had no idea what the heck was going on. I was very confused about it all.

  6. I have been binge reading to catch up with the posts and have really enjoyed them. When I say I like SMK everyone just looks at me weirdly. Let alone when I say I like BB. So I’m very happy to have come across this site. I remember seeing this for the first time in the 80’s and how I was no this can’t be happening but still liked Amanda coming in with the gun. After going through the third season with you and reading all the posts I can see so much more. How much Amanda has grown going in to look for Lee rather than waiting for him to come to her rescue, much more of an equal footing. But her first thought is still Lee, is he alright.

    1. hi cjlps23,

now able to give you a better welcome! You’ve picked an interesting time to jump in and join the chatter! i’ll look forward to hearing more from you as the walk continues!

Do you remember when you watched this in the 80’s – did you think Amanda thought Lee had taken off with Sonja? and if she was really mad here?

Glad to hear walking through season 3 and reading all our comments (and our own changing thoughts along the way) has helped you to see more! If you like, you can go back to previous posts and share things you newly discovered.. but no pressure!

But her first thought is still Lee, is he alright.

This is how I see it too!
      Welcome to JWWM cjlps23!

      1. I’ve been thinking about this and I must admit the peacock dance has always been a scene that I fast forwarded through if I could. When I first saw this it was just too much like cheating and after my parents divorce that was something that just really affected me. I think this is probably the first time I have really looked at this scene as an adult. I have never liked Sonja I know she is being manipulated by everyone, her grandfather, Rostov and Lee but she is manipulating Lee, Amanda and Rostov. I think I remember what happens with her grandfather but I don’t want to jump ahead. So I cannot feel sorry for her she had a choice. I have always felt for Amanda out in the car waiting though I must admit I don’t know whether I could have waited for two missed check ins I think I would have wanted to bust in after one. I trusted Lee back in the 80’s and still do today he was always the knight in shining armour and I knew he wouldn’t run out on Amanda or me. Funny how characters on tv become so real to us, I think that is when there are good actors.

        1. Yeah! When it comes to Sonja there isn’t much to like so far!!

I’m yet to figure out whether she is just a pawn or a willing participant here.. this question is in the back of my mind as we continue..

Awh.. it’s true cjlps23 we the audience intrinsically trust Lee and Amanda and we know he wouldn’t run out on Amanda!

Funny how characters on tv become so real to us,

So true! Weird fans end up starting blogs and sifting over episodes about these fictional characters! haaaaaaaaa!!

    2. WELCOME cjlps23! Yes, it was a relief to me to find I wasn’t the only one with a great affection (okay, borderline obssession, okay, maybe not so borderline) for SMK. This scene is always very hard to watch — wow, and I thought the She-who-must-not-be-named episode (Lost and Found) was tough. This is brutal.

  7. Made a stupid mistake and watched a few Remington Steeles. I think I’ll eventually watch a few more, but it really stands out now how “squeaky clean” SMK was compared to RS for a rom/com 80s show.

Can anyone here tell me if I’m mistaken in thinking Lee/Sonja have seen more action than Lee/Amanda did in all four seasons of SMK? Or is that just me?

I know (and respect) that KJ never wanted to be a sex symbol (though she was one, anyway); she wanted to break new ground and so forth. But dang, you can’t cast BB and ratchet up the will-they/wont-they for 3 seasons, then serve 4×01 featuring the male lead macking some random baddie more than he’s kissed everyone the entire previous 3 seasons!

I will say it suddenly dawned on me WHY there was (is?) a question, sadly, of when L/A hit the sheets. I’d always assumed S3 easy (ATWAS), and never understood why it was even a question. But if they were “intimate” prior to this episode, my Amanda respect would be in trash heap. I’ll still struggle over (ahem) S1 Dean sleepovers in her first year post-divorce, then Amanda making Lee wait more than, say, five minutes after ATWAS —but maybe this is why. Maybe the woman was prescient and knew some boundaries were going to need made before she “went there.” Yep! I’m on board with the “she waited” because who knows what Lee contracted from all that Sonja spit. (I can’t believe I actually watched this. Self-flagellation! And I couldn’t have done it without you guys LOL 😂)

Paused, and I don’t recall the rest (really, I’m not sure I ever watched the rest because I didn’t recall them taking Lee anywhere), but right now, the Soviets are looking great, while the Agency is looking really, really lame. As in, I’m surprised SMK’s USA wasn’t smoked by the Soviets.

    1. I don’t think L/A went there prior to or immediately after ATWAS either. Who’s to say Dean didn’t spend the night on the couch on any nights he did stay over? I don’t think there was anything intimate between them. A chicken peck every now and then, but not much beyond that. I’ll throw this point out there too. I think she carried some feelings for Joe, which probably made intimacy hard with someone else. Then along comes Lee who makes her forget all about Dean. By then, she was ready for more intimacy. I still think her and Lee waited until some set time (that hasn’t happened in the Walk just yet.) As for Lee, he could have been imagining he was kissing someone else. 😉

      1. I’m so glad you guys feel you can share your opinions here freely 🙂 And its so great too we all remember not everyone sees things the same. And.. that’s cool!
That said, I tend to see it the same was as you Sara! 😉

I’ve always been ‘agnostic’ about the do they/don’t they question, we are now heading into the part of the show where this is going to be more of a question! So I look forward to discussing and keeping a watch out for clues. I have found one recently that we’ll get to eventually….

At this point, I think smk deliberately leaves these sorts of questions unanswered, and gives either view point evidence that can support their view of how they want to see things. It’s a tv show, and unless it’s declared outright there is no absolute truth – I think we are free to think what we like regarding Amanda/Dean or Amanda/Lee – and I am really glad they left it vague and we can have whatever we want really 🙂
Of course, I may change my mind on this as we continue – maybe there is a definitive clue along the way that solves this one for us..
We’ll see! I look forward to exploring this with everyone.. different viewpoints will be very welcome.

      2. Sara> I don’t think L/A went there prior to or immediately after ATWAS either.

Yeah, I went for years just assuming otherwise because of that S3 hotel episode one, where they were brother/sister. I guess I just didn’t think about it much. But I truly find this display disgusting, even if A/L were NOT an item. I know Francine had to throw herself under the bus a few times, but wasn’t that just talk? (Flirting with boring guys?)

I don’t know, I made it this far into Stems (lol still paused with Billy yelling!) and will finish it out. (With a sincere hope that Sonja doesn’t wind up pregnant… tongue-in-cheek only a little.) I think this must be the worst of the Stems judging from the comments.

Note: I don’t think any show could get away with something like this today. Not a one. Twilight-esque love triangle, yes, they do that all the time (and I’m not a fan), but this just comes off as filth on so many levels. Is there even a “considered-worse” episode in SMK prior to this episode?

Interesting comment Trebuchette! I wonder if this is deliberate.. and they are wanting to frustrate the viewers..

I look forward to coming back to this with you Trebuchette as we continue this walk.

yeah I’ve always found the clues we are given of Amanda’s history of intimacy to be a little uneven, it did seem like the show was hinting she and dean were intimate… but I also don’t think the show ever outright confirmed it. I think they were going for a vibe of Amanda and Dean being like the Jo Beth Williams character and her husband in American dreamer – Amanda (whatever she was getting up to) was going through the motions and completely uninspired!

Whooo I see Sara has replied. I’ll reply to Sara’s comment and continue this discussion 🙂

Just don’t let me explain this fishing trip where Amanda took the picture we saw in ‘There goes the Neighborhood’ with Dean and the BIG fish. I guess they took either two cabins or one with two bedrooms and Amanda insisted on a huge alarm system, warning her if Dean should have tried to cross ‘the border’ into her territory.
Yep, that works just find for me. 😁

            1. Hi L&A, let me put your mind at ease! Discussing alternative ideas is fine. Go for it! I do it all the time..

I’ll give you a little background to this Fan Fiction situation on JWWM.
Fan fiction discussions are not a good fit for JWWM – as a blog it tends to send discussions off track – so as this walk progressed I learned it is best to redirect these discussions elsewhere. They are fabulous discussions, but when people want to discuss fan fic, they want to discuss the story, how it was written, what they like or don’t like – and the discussion seemed to quickly shift from the blog post to a story written by a third party and hosted somewhere else on the net – a blog can’t cope with this type of meandering discussion.

It’s also better not to share direct links to fan fics here on JWWM, because people then want to comment on the story [very naturally!] – and it sends the discussion off in that direction… Instead, directing readers to Nedlindgers for the link also directs them to a location where they can discuss the story freely if they wish to.

Does my decision to redirect fan fiction discussion away from JWWM make sense? Any questions do feel free to ask away.

So while discussing or sharing fan fic stories is redirected to another location – it is also very related to the walk, to say (for example) – I know a great fan fic (by so and so) that fills this plot hole! It says….
briefly share the idea, acknowledge the author, and direct readers interested in the fan fic to Nedlindgers for a link to the story, and to discuss the story itself. [As Cindy has done – thanks Cindy!]
We would likely incorporate that idea into our discussions and enjoy what it could contribute!

By all means discuss ideas, but to discuss the fan fiction story itself – JWWM isn’t the place to do it.
I’ve found people love to discuss fan fiction – and more power to you if you do! But JWWM is for discussing the walk through the episodes.

I think a blog dedicated to discussing smk fan fic would be a great project for someone who is across all the smk fan fic [I won’t be starting it! I’m holding off on reading fan fic and have no time at the moment anyway lol]

Have I explained adequately how to handle fan fiction here on JWWM L&A? and the rationale behind it? If there is any confusion please speak freely.

Thanks so much for being so thoughtful about JWWM and so glad you sought clarification. Hope it frees you from your concerns while also freeing you to discuss fan fic [just not at JWWM 🙂 ]

    3. “Can anyone here tell me if I’m mistaken in thinking Lee/Sonja have seen more action than Lee/Amanda did in all four seasons of SMK? Or is that just me?”

That’s possible, especially knowing Lee/Sonja “pea danced” for 7 nights, but we were (mercifully) shown only two. I keep telling myself it all comes down to quality versus quantity. Perhaps Lee Sonja won the quantity issue, but it’s no question that Lee/Amanda took the prize for quality.

  8. Lee is always telling Amanda to “stay in the car”. This is the one time she should have really listened. If she had, she would have seen Rostov and Sonja dragging Lee down the stairs in a stupor. But I did enjoy seeing Amanda go in gun drawn and putting her new agent skills to work by picking up the phone with a cloth so as not to leave fingerprints.

    1. lol – great shout out jhahn!

It feels to me like some time lapsed between the taser and Amanda deciding to go in. I am thinking Alexi knew she was out there and would have waited to walk out, or gah he would have just killed Amanda on the way past. They knew Amanda was out in the car listening [the way Sonja picked up the clicker/mike and put on the little audio show for Amanda to cover what was happening tells us this] – and who can miss Lee’s car 😉 tee hee..

Hear hear! Great to see Amanda utilising spy skills!!!

  9. I don’t think Amanda would have gone in with gun drawn if she really thought Lee and Sonja were in bed. She knows he’s in trouble. I think she trusted Lee when he said he wasn’t going to stay the night. I’m glad we got what we did in the last scene as well, rather than some dialogue about slashing tires; Lee knew this could bother Amanda, so he addressed it voluntarily, openly yet delicately. It didn’t sound to me like an agent just informing his partner of his plans; the fact that he said “I don’t want to” instead of something like “I’m not going to” is suggestive. It sounded like Lee telling Amanda that he although could spend the night and call it business, he is so committed to her that he isn’t even tempted. Followed by his definite statement of when he would be out, it’s as much as saying “I don’t want to, and I’m not going to.” And Amanda seems to recognize that, and believe it. What a yucky agent’s option, though!

  10. The scene with Sonja and Lee is so distressing that it’s actually a relief when Lee is knocked out! Amanda is a remarkable woman to have survived 7 evenings of this. Maybe the reason she didn’t hear the sounds of the attack because she’d had to develop selective hearing to survive?? I do enjoy see Superspy Amanda go on in to the apartment and handle the situation. And it must be serious is we actually see a dead body being wheeled past Billy. I think that is SMK code for “this is a very serious situation. Much more serious than a usual spy crisis”

    1. Haha Sara, Sonja’s blouse does bring to mind a deflector shield when she holds her arms out. She accuses Lee of “teasing” her, while her evil grandfather “tazers” Lee. Remember, a peacock loses its peripheral vision while its tail is on display, which is how The Sorcerer snuck up on Lee. I call that fowl play!

Plus, I really hate it when the bad guys use an injection on Lee (or Amanda). It’s rarely a fair fight, man-to-man, with the KGB and Lee was so darn HAPPY when he turned the Stemwinder frequencies over to Sonja. After 7 grueling evenings annoying his best girl and himself, it was FINALLY mission accomplished and Lee was so eager to get back to Amanda!

As iwsod said, “Uh oh… Lee is in a lot of trouble!!!”

      1. This bit of your comment struck me Nancy:

I hadn’t stopped to think – but you are so right, at this point Lee was thinking of Amanda… I hadn’t thought about the significance of it but when he gets his clicker out to signal to Amanda this tells us that he is thinking of her, definitely playing the peacock here and he is still wanting to leave. I thought all the focus on the clicker a bit funny but now I can see why it was significant and important to show! and.. I’m really glad Lee was thinking of the clicker and Amanda waiting in the car!

  11. Another masterly segment, Iswod. I do find it a little hard to comment on as I find the scenes with Lee and Sonya very distasteful . (I was trying for a more sophisticated word than ‘ick’)
So I will go for what humour I can find. Amidst all the drama I have to admit I find Amanda’s gun very funny. It is so tiny. Is it meant to be a ‘lady’s gun’ ? The first time I watched this, I was taken back that she was carrying a gun. It seemed so out of character . But seriously, where did they find one so small? I keep thinking that a shot from that wouldn’t hurt anyone much.
I also find it quite funny that after 2 hours of drinking and dancing, Lee is still wearing his coat and Sonya is very formal and covered up. I am not complaining, I approve but I do notice it.
There is not much else to laugh about , it is all very dramatic. I actually think the twists and turns of the plot of very good and really shocking when you watch it first (actually I still find it shocking when the Alexi’s plans begin to unfold and Billy answers the phone from Dart’s office and Lee is dragged off helpless) .
    Excellent job as always, Iswod.

    1. Small gun or not, after 7 nights listening to Sonja and Lee (Lee said 6 nights earlier, so this would make it 7, I guess??), Sonja’s in a heap of trouble with Amanda! I’d ike to have seen this scene if it had been a showdown between Amanda and Alexi and Sonja. Amanda, of course, coming out ahead. .

      1. I think you are right. Amanda was that mad that she could have easily taken out the two of them with the champagne bottle never mind the gun. Sadly, we didn’t see that version.

Amanda’s gun looks like a Concealed Carry handgun used for self-defense. They are lighter in weight and quite common. It has a very short barrel, which is what makes it look “so tiny.” That short barrel causes it to be effective only at very short range. Rules qualifying a person to carry a concealed weapon have been regulated state-by-state in the USA since the 1800’s. No I don’t own one myself, but have family and friends who do. As to whether Amanda would hurt someone with this gun at close quarters depends mostly on the proficiency of her aim.

    3. Awh! thanks Michele!
re the distasteful aspects? I hear ya! I know at times like this I can revert to 8 year old iwsod watching her crush do ick things.. lol it’s a coping strategy I think haaaaa..

Anyway – finding the humour [or heck just creating our own!] is a fabulous idea!

I want to experience the story along with the characters – which is what JWWM is really all about..and has evolved into focusing on I think.
As I think the thoughts and emotions that arise while we are in the story are part of the story. Hope that makes sense.

The only thing is sometimes the emotions and thoughts that arise from the part of the story that is unfolding are just plain uncomfortable and unpleasant! Sooooo while I want to stay with that to understand the story – I love to take a step back from it all and just make fun with all us smk fans together to get us through it! 🙂

So I will go for what humour I can find. Amidst all the drama I have to admit I find Amanda’s gun very funny.

It’s true I agree! and because.. it’s Amanda! and all that entails 😉 I think that one shot of her scowling and holding the gun looks hilarious – err when I step back from the seriousness of what is unfolding that is..

I also find it quite funny that after 2 hours of drinking and dancing, Lee is still wearing his coat and Sonya is very formal and covered up. I am not complaining, I approve but I do notice it.

His coat is still on? haaaa.. I’ll choose to see that as a positive!
Maybe he left it on because his clicker thingy was in the pocket and he needed to check in at regular intervals. but I much prefer to think of it as his antibacterial protection against Russian germs 😉

There is not much else to laugh about , it is all very dramatic.

Yeah again I agree! Things started off in this ep with a vibe of something looming.. and.. it’s starting to arrive!!!! We don’t yet know the full extent..but given what we just saw of Lee and the dead body being wheeled past – we are definitely in uh oh territory here now!!

I actually think the twists and turns of the plot of very good and really shocking when you watch it first

I agree again! Oh dear.. how dull? 😉 tee hee..[kidding!]
I love to sink my teeth into a good plot. Spiderweb is still one of my favourites, a really clever plot! And I appreciate that the writers are giving the plot a red hot go in this one! No Amanda coincidentally stumbling into something? hoorah!

(actually I still find it shocking when the Alexi’s plans begin to unfold and Billy answers the phone from Dart’s office and Lee is dragged off helpless) .

‘Shocking’ Michele??? – that’s a brilliant pun!!!! whahahahaha!!!! Yes it all happens like a ‘bolt’ out of the blue 😉 tee hee..

We’ve seen helpless Lee before – but this has a new vibe doesn’t it… here it’s been set up to be very serious -and a real threat. That is a credit to the writing I think. [okay let’s toss in a nod to the acting also 😉 ]

Thanks for your encouragement Michele – you made my day 🙂
