Hi Everyone!!!
Are we ready to continue? On with the show!
We cut to a produce truck backing up. I bet you’ve all been looking forward to this produce truck. rofl! 😉
LOL this is a magical hotel! the front is in a city location..
The back loading dock is in a country location! rofl! it’s one massive hotel!
the driver of the produce truck hands a few crates to another guy wearing a cap, to take into the back of the hotel.
We see an agent.. (agency I guess)
Kilroy: Deliveries coming in. Two men.
Inside Zhmed is in a corridor at payphone, frantically slipping though telephone book.
Zhmed: Fifty-seven Bolton Place, Kile. A.
He flips the pages some more.. and as he does so, the guy we saw in the cap happens to take off his cap, and jacket and put it on a random hat rack behind Zhmed. Camera zooms in on page to show King, A, 4247 Maplewood Drive, 555-7043 which he reads out loud.
[Anyone want to give Amanda a call?! You have got to be kidding me!!!! Amanda knows Russian bad guys up close, and her name and address and phone number are all listed in the phone book???!!!!! Whahahahaaha!!!! Why is there no suburb for anyone with the last name king? And why are all the numbers around Amanda’s starting with 555 but none of the others do? Is this a real page that’s been doctored? I wonder!!
Oh I could pick at this listing like crazy it just doesn’t make sense! I’ll move on!]
I never would have guessed it. (err Yep I would). Zhmed steals the guy’s coat and cap..
We cut to Lee (lookin good) and Amanda still waiting at the table..
Keeping an eye on the KGB agent, and an eye out for Zhmed.
We cut to the back loading dock.
Zhmed is hopping in the back of the delivery truck, covering his face with an empty box on his shoulder.
The truck drives off slowly.. with Zhmed the delivery guy in the back.
So Kilroy turns to speak into his radio.
Kilroy: Delivery men are out…
…Stetson and King are still covering subject in restaurant. [What, not code names?!]
Having gotten past Kilory, Zhmed jumps out of truck and starts running away.
Kilroy: Teams One and Three, remain at your present posts.
Inside, the KGB agent gets up and heads to the restrooms to see what’s taking Zhmed so long. Lee and Amanda take it all in. The KGB agent quickly heads back out in a hurry, knocking over a waiter. LOL way to be inconspicuous!
Lee: I think your tourist just took another vacation. Come on.
Lee and Amanda immediately make to leave.
Lee grabs Amanda’s hand Awh!!!!
They begin to leave.
Kilroy intercepts them to explain. I note Lee immediately lets go of Amanda’s hand.
Kilroy: I missed him out back. Team one thinks he went towards the Metro.
Lee: Alright. Put spotters on the next five stops… (Kilroy leaves without another word. Lee’s giving the orders)
…This guy is doing more than just checking out the sights.
Amanda: How could we miss him?
Lee: Yeah,…
(Lee reaches out for Amanda’s hand again)
… well if it’s any consolation, the KGB lost him too.
With that, they leave.. and the scene ends..
Back to the King home and Amanda arrives home..
Dotty: Amanda! I’m in here.
Amanda: Hi Mother! I didn’t expect to find you at home
Amanda enters the kitchen and heads over to the flowers on her kitchen bench to move them over a few inches.
Random! She then looks up to notice her mother is involved in something..
Dotty: I know. But I got so involved with my ATC introduction that I pushed ground school back an hour. Captain Curt made an exception.
(Amanda sits next to her and picks up a brochure)
Amanda: Wait just a minute! What’s ATC and ground school and Captain Curt? What in the world is this?
(Amanda opens the brochure and we can see inside)
[This episode is sponsored by….. Cessna!]
Dotty: Oh that. That’s a Cessna 172….
…It’s a single engine, over instead of under wing, fixed landing gear, 15,000 foot ceiling,…
[We see Amanda nodding.. her expression is pretty neutral.. I’m wondering if it’s deliberately neutral!]
…but it’s going to be weeks until I get up there…
Amanda, I will clean all this up when I get home but I’m in a hurry.
(Dotty goes to get up and leave.. Amanda speaks up!)
Amanda: Mother! What are you talking about?
Dotty: Flight school.
Amanda: Flight school?
(Dotty gets up)
Dotty: It won’t be long. In sixteen weeks, I’ll be soaring with the eagles… and Captain Curt who’s my instructor. Fifty-three, six-two, a real buff hunk.
(Dotty starts heading for the door)
Amanda: This is my mother who gets a rash on the Key Bridge?
Dotty: I know. But there is something about the wild blue that is so… I don’t know, so…
Amanda: Invigorating.
Dotty: That’s right!..
…And I aim, I just aim to conquer it.
(Dotty flings her white scarf over her shoulder with great flair!)
[Dotty is hilarious here! I just have to share these funny slightly blurry images of her!]
Amanda: You aim to conquer Captain Curt.
[whooo haaaaa! Go Dotty! I’m thrilled to see her a) getting a hobby and b) showing an interest in men again! I think it’s been pretty quiet since Rebecca’s fantasies! Umm now I think about it.. maybe that weekend away didn’t go so well
Hey Amanda you can tell Dotty about how you flew a helicopter once!!! and.. you kinda flew a 747 down a runway.. ahem.. ]
(Dotty behind her, Amanda is distracted by a movement out the window.)
….Who’s that up in the treehouse?
Dotty: That’s little Bobby Kenwood. He is testing the laws pertaining to squatters’ rights. He goes up there every afternoon and the boys chase him away.
Amanda: Mother, he’s too little to do that. You gotta tell him to come down.
(Amanda heads out the back door to go stop Bobby’s squatting)
[More flowers?! We are going a little over the top with the flower pots now aren’t we?! four flower pots???!!!]
Dotty calls after Amanda: You are absolutely right. I’ll call his mother when I get home .
(Dotty heads out the front door leaving Amanda to get Bobby down).
We see Amanda outside in her suddenly massive back yard!
Amanda: Bobby! It’s too high for you up there… [Amanda gets no answer so she tries a different tactic to get Bobby down.]
…Alright, whoever you are, you better show your face or I’m calling the police.
Zhmed’s head pops up!
Amanda looks shocked!
Amanda: Mr. Stringell!
Zhmed: No. It’s Mr. Dorloff…
…Zhmed Dorloff of the USSR…
(We see a fast zoom in on Zhmed)
… I want to defect.
Whoa.. Amanda sure is lucky!
Even she can’t believe it!
LOL, KJ does her funny I’m confused schtick!
And the scene ends here. I better pause here – any thoughts you’d like to share everyone?
Anyone else thrilled to see Dotty has two new pursuits? (Captain Curt and flying?!)
Inside Zhmed is in a corridor at payphone, frantically slipping though telephone book.
Well, it happened. We got to this scene tonight – my 12-year old son and me – and when it showed Zhmed looking through the phone book, my son said, “What is that????”
😫😭
….And speaking of age, how old does everyone think Dotty is? Capt. Curt at 53 is a little younger than her, right? I love Dotty in this scene. I think that as the boys are growing up a little, Joe is back in town and with them more often, and Amanda is out and about with work and Lee, it’s a really special thing to see her spread her wings a bit. 😉

Hiya you fabulous people!! I’ve had smile on my face all week – every time I see a new comment from one of you – oh yeah! the walk is back!
Okay, it’s slow.. but.. still.. it’s back!!!
And rofl at all the Dotty and her ulterior motives talk! I really want to meet this captain Curt now – I wonder if he will be anything like Lee??!!!
[don’t tell me if we see him! 🙂 ]
Actually, Dotty has mentioned many men she’s dated and we never see them.. so lol maybe we won’t..
Anyway!
Isn’t all the hand holding fabulous??!!!
edited to add: I’ll publish the next post over the weekend! byeee!!

Love the hand-holding with Lee and Amanda. Considering Lee’s complaint about not seeing her much he’s trying to get in as much togetherness as he can. Still can’t be regular yet.
Love Dotty so much. Considering her difficulty with learning how to drive, Captain Curt must be a real buff hunk for her to take on flying. She certainly seems to have studied up on the plane. Way to go, Dotty!

Yes, love Dotty in this scene! We can definitely see that the Amanda apple did not fall far from the Dotty tree. I also googled to check, but I wonder if the 6’2” reference was on purpose…that is BB’s height according to my online search – lol. And at the time the episode aired he was 36, but maybe he was 35 when it was written, hence the 53, because we all know he’s a real buff hunk 😉
Oh my gosh! Amanda’s back yard is killing me!!! This has got to be one of the worst non-plot plot holes. Does that make sense? It looks very DC suburb … ahem, not! I think even as a teenager when I first watched this I was annoyed at the low-budget location here. They could have at least put some fake grass down. That small bit of white picket fence beyond the tree is so random. It looks like it is just leaning against the tall grass.
Can I just say that I really don’t care for Amanda’s hair here? I don’t think it is flattering for her face shape.

I suspect there is a lot of hairspray involved in the shape of her hair (was it a windy week in LA?)

Good question. The notorious, blustery, hot, dry Santa Ana winds occur in the December-January timeframe. This episode was aired October 10th so they couldn’t be a factor. I researched September 1986 in L.A. Three straight days of rain September 23-25, 1986 with 20 mph winds. The winds and higher than normal humidity may well have increased the sale of hair spray. If there’s reason to believe this was filmed earlier, there was persistent fog (high humidity) the first 11 days of September 1986. Good catch, learjet1.

Interesting, Nancy 🙂 . Maybe they stuck KJ outside in the humidity for an hour or so until her wet hair dried and puffed up, then brought her back in and hairsprayed it in place. No need for teasing that hair 😀

You’ve got some mighty unusual hair styling ideas; but then, we did learn early on in S&MK, that hair dryers can be verrry dangerous!

That back 40 of a garden slays me – Dotty is supposedly such a big gardener and their garden looks like Jamie and Phillips run monster trucks through there. No wonder they have to have so many potted flowers inside.

I’m thinking Dotty went on a rampage! She cut almost all of her fall flowers and put them in vases because Captain Curt and her flight school studying left her no time for gardening. With Dotty away more and preoccupied when at home, the boys are free to play monster trucks and “ride roughshod” over all her hard work.

It’s magic!! and rofl. good one clagjanet – that explains the massive quantities of potted flowers indeed!! haaaaaa

You have to look closer, but there is one red flowering shrub in front of that decorative fence. LOL

This scene with Dotty just makes me realise again why I love this show. She’s just so hilariously over-the-top. Love it!! Especially in her trainee pilot khaki vest. Of course, there is always an ulterior motive with Dotty (the delicious Captain Kirk, I mean Curt)
On as side note, that treehouse is NOT high. Unless little Bobby is about 3….

Wondered why Dotty wore that odd khaki vest; then, realized she and Amanda both wore pink blouses. Amanda’s work has gotten her out on many invigorating adventures these past few years and with a handsome colleague! We know Dotty’s been frustrated with her daughter’s secrecy about her work life and love life. So Dotty obviously decided: if you can’t fight ’em, join ’em! She found a way to seek invigorating adventures and, with a handsome instructor, all on her own. Like mother, like daughter in more than pink blouses!

Zhmed running away while Kilroy talks on the phone just cracks me up. Glad to see the Agency put their top team on surveillance facepalm.
Glad to see Dotty is so comfortable driving she is willing to tackle flight school. Well, I guess you don’t need to parallel park a Cessna to get your pilot’s license, so maybe she will do great.

I think it’s less tackling flight school and more tackling Captain Curt…

You mean Dotty has ulterior motives?
Say it isn’t so!

Fifty-three, six-two, a real buff hunk… I’d have ulterior motives too.

Ok, Maybe Dotty really does want to learn how to fly a plane. I mean she is of that generation when a Woman could be a Stewardess(A Glamorous Job back in the early ‘Jet Age’ days) But a Woman Pilot, not the Norm. However I do not think she is interested in flying ‘Solo’?

Maybe she’s tired of always getting stuck helping with the boys when Amanda disappears overnight and is planning to fake her own death and be the next Amelia Earhart?

haaaa yes! Back in the day when they were still called ‘Stewardess’!
Hey- Dotty wants to ‘take off with a pilot’!!! whahahahaahaaaa….

Yeah I think if Howard the driving instructor had been half the hunk Captain Curt is she may have stopped avoiding those left turns years ago! 😉

My favourite part about the phone book is that it’s not even in alphabetical order! “Kines, Kinaburg, King”??
And the hand holding – so cute! Especially the expression on their faces and body language when Kilroy shows up that looks exactly like they’ve just been caught by their parents or something.
But the way he turns and grabs her hand again and is unfazed by the fact that Zhmed got away – this is all very partner-y and equals stuff here and I’m liking this new Lee. In the old days of Season 2, he would have been ranting by now and almost-but-not-quite blaming her out of frustration but now his body language is just swoony.

Also on the handholding – they are really bad at “not holding hands, no sirree!” when they both let go and then their hands stay almost attached.

The pretend like we’re strangers at work/no touching thing is laugh out loud funny to me. They really must have no clue how much they touched before their brains caught up with their hearts and bodies (i.e. seasons 1-3, lol). I have seriously never seen another show where the main characters actually touch each other less after they finally get together than they did before. Remember season 2 where Amanda couldn’t take two steps without Lee’s hand coming to her arm or the small of her back? Can you imagine if you had worked there the whole time? I would be absolutely cracking up at their “pretending to be strangers” act. It’s no wonder the other agents never get anything done – they can’t stop laughing at Amanda and Lee trying so hard not to touch each other and thinking that no one knows they are together!

😁 As I recall, Billy was suspicious way back in Saved By the Bells (S1x8) and at least one other agent “had always assumed…” in Odds on a Dead Pigeon (S2x17)
*ish. You know…depending on your own personal episode order 😉
