1/9 Season Four Episode Six: Night Crawler -Scarecrow & Mrs King

Welcome everyone!!!
Where has the last year gone? It’s been 16 months since we walked through a new episode. Bang your pots and pans! toot your horns!!! yell out to your neighbours!! okay okay.. well maybe others won’t get it but.. I’m super excited to be back here – let the fun continue!!!!

A huge thank you to Jaemie who has transcribed this episode for JWWM and for operation sandstorm: We Salute you!!!!
Since Jaemie has included all descriptions in the transcript I’ll rely on these at times while writing up this episode. I’d be silly not to use it! but..
I don’t want to present other’s words as my own.. soooo when I’m including the transcription’s written description, I will use these brackets { } Okay?

Thanks also to wonderful Learjet who has helped with formatting and saved me loads of time. Thanks soooo much Learjet!

Here we go! Smk starts in it’s usual fashion..4.06NC.avi_000081081 A vista of Washington DC… and.. whoooo Lee in uniform.
4.06NC.avi_000086986
Lee and Francine exit the terminal.
Lee: I’ll check in with operations.
(They part ways and Lee can be seen glancing oh so secretively at a guy putting tags on luggage. Lee keeps on walkin.)
[Lookin good Lee. Walk this way!
4.06 NIGHT CRAWLER.avi_000093626
I don’t know how I could have stayed away from smk for so long!!!!! tee hee..]

(Lee walks by Amanda, who seems to be playing a cover) [– as a trendy fashionista with funky white sunglasses.. ha!]
She speaks into her earpiece.. Amanda: I’ll have a feed for you at twenty after, stand by.4.06NC.avi_000100033
(Amanda doesn’t acknowledge Lee as he passes by.)
[We all know that on the inside, Amanda is thinking: Whoooo haaaa check out what’s headed my way! He’s all mine. Hope we can borrow that uniform for our date this weekend. ahgaqghalagho who needs ‘Rebecca’s fantasies’! hgaogogu
Ahem. Keep it PG Iwsod.. aie.. this is going to be so tough!!! Where was I… ]
4.06 NIGHT CRAWLER.avi_000108041
(A lady with a hair don’t walks into frame, and is seen putting down a suitcase, looking a bit smug about it.) [ha. In that shirt I can’t think why..]

(A Doberman comes along and sniffs the row of luggage. he seems to skip the one Phyllis just left?! …
4.06NC.avi_000114381
4.06NC.avi_000128695
Lee starts casually walking toward the luggage.. and.. a blonde walks by Lee and sneezes.) [Lee doesn’t usually have that effect on women. Whatever could be going on here?! Oh wait..
Hang on, it’s action time! ]4.06NC.avi_000129562
Lee: The woman in the black jeans!

(Pilot Lee, luggage guy, and flight attendant Francine all fly into action, [get it?! pun intended] now Lee has called out to let the woman in the black jeans know they are on to her. haaaaa… so polite of Lee to give her a warning.)
{Francine pulls a gun from her bag and steps up to Phyllis from her side and disarms her. Lee runs to the suitcases and picks up the one Phyllis had put down. Yusef and Francine are cuffing Phyllis. Among the commotion is a woman with a camera who is filming what’s going on} 4.06NC.avi_000136703
[That lady in the background is the one who sneezed. One second she’s behind Francine.. the next she is off to the side observing.4.06 NIGHT CRAWLER.avi_000137570 whooooo stealthy! ]
To the onlookers who are gathering.. Lee says:
It’s all right, folks. It’s all right…
4.06 NIGHT CRAWLER.avi_000139506
…Don’t panic.
[it’s flippin hilarious how Lee says  ‘don’t panic’ right when we cut to Lee and find he is actually pointing his nifty luggage handle/machine gun at the crowd!!!! Don’t panic people.. or Lee will shoot!! Seems Lee had a machine gun hidden in his case? and the case handle is sticking out the top of the machine gun? oh rofl. that looks so lame!!! but I bet in the 80s I thought that was super clever!]
{Behind Amanda, a black truck speeds onto the scene. }
Amanda: Leeeeeeeeee, look out!
{Phyllis uses the opportunity to break away from Francine and Yusef.}
4.06NC.avi_000145578
[umm Francine’s pointing a gun at Phyllis as she turns and runs away?! Yes this image above is Francine and Yusef just look really incompetent! It’s pretty funny! ]

{Lee jumps back out of the way of the oncoming truck. Everyone around screams and ducks as the truck speeds into the line of suitcases. Francine shoots at the driver as he speeds by.}
[Amanda screams ‘Lee Lookout’.. not Lee and Francine haaaaa… soooo I guess Francine didn’t feel that she needed to look out.. Everyone hits the deck – but.. not Francine!! 4.06 NIGHT CRAWLER.avi_000146680
she’s standing her ground with a revolver, heels and handbag no less… great to see her putting her flight attendant training to good use!]4.06 NIGHT CRAWLER.avi_000147347
{Lee also shoots at the truck as it comes to a screeching halt beyond them. Phyllis, with her hands cuffed behind her back, quickly climbs into the back of the truck and lies down.}
4.06 NIGHT CRAWLER.avi_000150016
Yusef: The suitcase! It’s going to blow!4.06NC.avi_000154854
{The truck speeds away.}
4.06NC.avi_000156523
[even not slowing it down, this looks nothing like an airport terminal at Dulles! rofl.]
{Lee picks up the smoking suitcase and hands Yusef his machine gun.}
Lee: Hit the ground, it’s live!
[Love how Lee takes the time to gesture to the crowd to hit the ground, while holding a live bomb and not moving it away from them. rofl.
Cue the women screaming in terror.. If I had randomly come across this scene, I’d think Lee was a terrorist! Don’t panic! It’s live! rofl.. ]4.06 NIGHT CRAWLER.avi_000159359
{Everyone screams and ducks . The camerawoman continues filming. [Boy, she’s good! She must be like a foreign war correspondent or something!]
4.06 NIGHT CRAWLER.avi_000161361
Lee runs the suitcase over to an armored van and pulls the security guard out of the way as he throws the suitcase into the back of the van and slams the door.}4.06 NIGHT CRAWLER.avi_000163363
[ummm Lee should not have been able to just grab that security guard and shove him away from the van he was guarding. Not without him showing ID haaaaa.. Okay maybe the security guard is in on it?
Lee does a showy somersault as he rushes away from the truck. haaaaa.. ]4.06 NIGHT CRAWLER.avi_000166700
{The back of the van explodes.} 4.06 NIGHT CRAWLER.avi_000167033

[Love how that guard just kind of sticks his butt in the air right next to the exploding truck. Does he think explosions are like lightning?! Isn’t it your butt you want to get hit?! tee hee..]

{Lee gives Amanda a slight wink and smiles gratefully as he sits up.
4.06 NIGHT CRAWLER.avi_000175742
Amanda smiles back .}
4.06 NIGHT CRAWLER.avi_000177143
[awhhh. Lee looks like he’s having the time of his life, and… Amanda gets it. Such a cute little look between them. Showing real affection, love and understanding, and.. happiness they are okay!
As the scene ends we are reminded one more time of that lady diligently filming everything for her holiday video.. hmm.. ]
4.06 NIGHT CRAWLER.avi_000177844
Moving on to an old shack.. 4.06 NIGHT CRAWLER.avi_000179579
Have we seen this place before? It looks familiar!!
(Inside, we find the video of Amanda screaming “Leee!!!!” is being viewed..) 4.06 NIGHT CRAWLER.avi_000182615
[rofl. we get a close up and everything! that’s quite the gifted camera work haaa!4.06 NIGHT CRAWLER.avi_000183450
It’s even edited to cut straight to Francine not backing down! 4.06 NIGHT CRAWLER.avi_000184250
Haaaa I love that we get to see that again! Oh and the footage cuts back to Amanda for her reaction to the events with a close up? It’s edited out the explosion to just focus on Amanda.. Whoooo freaky.. but also.. flippin hilarious. ]
4.06 NIGHT CRAWLER.avi_000185952
{The tape is paused on Amanda’s smiling face.}4.06 NIGHT CRAWLER.avi_000189489 {We hear the voice of Addi Birol saying something in his native Arabic and then we hear him say “Lee.” (NOTE: May be “Se rahat andar Lee.”) He is speaking on the phone and standing in front of the television set.}4.06 NIGHT CRAWLER.avi_000190557
Addi Birol: Scarecrow anticipated again. It’s impossible to get anything done!  Ask yourself, ‘how does he always know?’ Scarecrow has a source inside.
[How does a scarecrow ‘know’ anything?! tee heee. This guy seems especially interested in Amanda and rewinds back to her and pauses the tape..]
{He pauses the tape again. He slides the large square peephole open and sees that it’s Mara. He opens the door for her. }4.06 NIGHT CRAWLER.avi_000204904
[It’s sneezing lady from the airport!! Okay I confess I didn’t pick that up the first time I was watching this episode. My excuse? Ummm Lee in Uniform!!!! say no more..]
No! No, give me time to toss the snake from my nest. Ma’a salama.
(He hangs up the call)
Mara: Beirut?
Birol: Bunch of old women. They lie about their villas. Stuff their face with spring lamb and absinthe and belly ache because I’ve not burned Washington to the ground.4.06 NIGHT CRAWLER.avi_000223456
[Old women is an insult is it.. you know one of my abiding memories of this episode is what a creep this guy is, so very creepy with women. I ughhhhh to see Mara fussing over him. Yuck. Stuff your face with that Kentucky Fried as fast as you can creep so you can keel over! He’s such a baby to me here!]
Mara: Don’t they understand about Scarecrow?
Birol: They understand I let him stay one step ahead of me.
I’m not hungry for this zabla.
[Mr sookie pouty face grabs the chicken and throws it across the room. Make his life hell Scarecrow! but errrr uh oh.. he seems to be too interested in Amanda and that camera work picked up real feelings uh oh.. Ohh noooo!!! do you guys remember what you were thinking the first time you watched this episode?]
Mara: They can’t blame you. You put a Karbala terror squad in American soil. No one’s ever done it!4.06 NIGHT CRAWLER.avi_000257157
Birol: I put it here. Scarecrow dismantles it. One more busted operation and we’re gone…we’re dead. I’ve got to think of something!4.06NC.avi_000262328

Give up now – you can’t beat Scarecrow! Haaaaa..

So welcome back everyone! Got any thoughts you’d like to share? When was the last time you watched this episode? I literally have not watched it in years! So it’s all pretty fresh for me. Anyone remember the first time they saw this episode? I actually watched this episode for the first time when I bought the VHS tape of this episode – way before the DVDs were released.. Remember how this show released a few select episodes on VHS?! This episode was one of them… and.. I can see why!!!! Sooo can’t wait to hear from you lovely peeps!

Don’t forget how the formatting works:

  1. Night Crawler gets off to a fantastic start, with several of the random things I look for that can make an episode extra-special occurring in just the first three minutes. Main characters in costumes – check! Francine working in the field – check! Unusually memorable or dramatic music – check! Near-death experience for Lee or Amanda – check! A romantic “moment” between Lee and Amanda – check! And all of this is just in the opening scene. (To be perfectly fair, I suppose I should dock a point or two for bad Amanda hair and those ugly sunglasses, but Francine’s hair looks so pretty, maybe that makes up for it. 😊) And then we move to Birol’s safe house and already I can check off another thing on my list: An unusually compelling bad guy!

Seriously, though, Night Crawler is easily my favorite episode of SMK. In my teens and twenties it was Stemwinder, but this one has now surpassed it. It has an excellent plot, the most terrifying and compelling villain of the entire series, excellent use of the full ensemble cast, extreme danger, unusual tactics, high emotions, tremendous love, moving displays of friendship and loyalty… All that, plus what I consider to be the most significant Lee-Amanda milestone of the entire series. I could go on and on (and probably will in future posts!).

The first time I watched this episode was on the Family Channel, summertime in the early 90s (maybe it was the same day as Molly!) The CBS original air date, I see, was October 31, 1986. I know exactly where I was that evening: it was Halloween in the U.S., I was in 6th grade, and I was out trick-or-treating with a group of girls that I had never spent much time with before. None of them ended up becoming close friends. Oh, how I wish I had been watching this show instead! This episode has parts that are positively horror-like – it is great for Halloween. The spooky aspects, combined with the high drama and romance, make it well-suited for viewing in the dark, late at night. That is exactly what I did in 2020, when watching it for the first time in two decades. Afterwards, I swear, it kept me up half the night and haunted my dreams.

    1. I bet that was the same night — August 7, 1992! I only remember because I went on vacation to my aunt’s later that month and got home in time to see the honeymoon ep but missed the wedding — I was SO MAD! That vacation was a regular one the same week every year, so it was easy to do the math and figure it out, which is great, because now I can always remember it.

  2. Night Crawler is such an important episode that I always forget it comes early in the season. I keep scrolling down too far and missing it when I look for it! Anyone else have this problem?

  3. Oh, I remember my first time. I was a stubborn ten year old livid with Family Channel for taking off Father Dowling Mysteries and putting Scarecrow & Mrs King on during the summer of 1992. I hadn’t seen any commercials and figured it was Green Acres kind of comedy about an old lady on a farm. I had every intention of boycotting the time slot all summer.

I did happen to be in the room when my mom and stepfather were watching Burn Out, in time to hear the line “We want you to shoot Amanda King.” I pointed to Lee and said “Is he the bad guy?” Mom said “No, that’s Scarecrow! He’s the lead!” I thought “Okay, this series is even more weird than I thought if they want the main characters to shoot each other” and left the room.

Then I can’t remember if I found out Father Dowling was coming back in September or if I was just feeling lonely since Mom was working that night. (I’m pretty sure it was the second, but it might have been a combo of both. I do remember excitedly telling her about the episode she’d missed!) I decided to stay in the living room, even though my stepfather was being a traitor and watching Scarecrow in Father Dowling’s old time slot!

That night’s episode was Night Crawler. I didn’t understand a lot of it (masks, hallucinations, etc, and I was very confused by good guys who weren’t cops carrying guns) but I certainly knew enough to recognize an amazing ending when I saw it. After that I watched every night, until they changed the time slot to past my bedtime.

  4. So instead ending an episode with a cheesy action sequence, we get to start an episode with one.

I used to watch the soap opera “One Life to Live”. The actor who plays Addi Birol showed up one day. Imagine my surprise to discover he was playing a minister. Totally threw me off because I just remembered how much I disliked him in this episode. I never got used to him as the minister. Always flashed back to SMK.

    1. It’s great when actors can play a variety of roles, but……yeah, this ep would ruin seeing him as a minister. (SOUR FACE; gag; Ooooohhhhh Nooooooo.)

      1. Oh wow! It reminds of me of how Kip Niven, who plays an awful hypnotizing stalker on a Hart To Hart, popped up as a minister on a Waltons episode. I was thinking “I know that guy…OH WAIT!” Felt so wrong.

And I got used to David Suchet because of Poirot and hearing him do the voice of Aslan on the Focus On The Family audio CDs — and he’s AMAZING in that part — but for my mom it’s hard to imagine because she just thinks of him as a horrible scumbag on an action movie (Executive Decision I think?) It’s almost ruined her being able to hear him as Aslan for her. It’s been so long since she saw the movie though that maybe I can play the audio dramas for her and it won’t bother her anymore. I’ll have to find my set and let her try,

  5. It’s so nice to see Lee again! Amanda too, but let’s face it, I’m here for Lee 😀

I must admit I haven’t watched any SMK while JWWM was on hiatus. I have been cheating with Robbie and Laura (if you know who I’m talking about, you’ll probably know what I mean). Coming back to Lee and Amanda is revisiting my teen years…Lee may have been one of the best things about them – ha!

Other than seeing Lee in action again, the most interesting part of these opening scenes is the hair. We have Phyllis’ hair don’t. Lee’s hair is even looking a little mullet-like in that pilot’s cap. Amanda’s hair is looking a bit fried and I’m not even going to comment on those sunglasses. The star is the sneezy blond. She has beautiful hair. I wonder if she was a Breck girl. Aside from the odd side braid(?) thing in the second scene, I wish I had her hair!

I also think that Addi Birol is one of the scariest baddies in all of SMK. He is true terrorist. What happened to baddies like Zinoviev? Even Brodie has nothing on this guy.

  6. Hello everyone! Good to be back in real time (although what with computer problems, no internet {the horror!!} and the pre-Christmas chaos, it’s taken me 3 weeks to get here).
So am very excited by this episode. I have to admit that I usually spend this opening scene or two getting a cup of tea and a chocolate biscuit or two (or three). And a blanket. And maybe starting the washing machine. So, don’t find it too gripping. And also want to avoid those horrible white sunglasses of Amanda’s. But with those screencap of Pilot Lee, I may be a bit more keen to pay closer attention to it…

  8. On a completely unrelated note, I am watching Galaxy Quest tonight and Tim Allen’s character just headed off to chase something but starts with a somersault and Sigourney Weaver’s character rolled her eyes and says “Really? Always with the somersault! Does the somersault really help?” Tim Allen’s character stops for s econd, thinks about it and then says “Yeah, actually it really does!” and then they all continue the chase.

This movie really is the funniest fanfic parody ever!

  9. I absolutely love this episode. I first saw it maybe 12 or 13 years ago. I am from Germany and we don’t get all the episodes. We are missing most of the best episodes like Stemwinder, Utopia Now and Nightcrawler. It took me years to get tapes of the missing episodes.
Last time I saw Nightcrawler was exactly a year ago! I love Lee’s passion shown in this episode (later on, when Amanda is missing).

    1. Hello, Steeldust! That must have been a shock to you when you finally saw those episodes. I wonder why they weren’t shown in Germany originally?

      Like

      1. On some episodes it is because of the german history (we still have our problems with the aftershock of the third world war and SMK was more than 30 years ago). It was forbidden to show a swastika on TV.
Other episodes shown to much violance for an early family TV show.
But I have to admit that I prefer watching it in the original language. It is so much more fun to listen to Amanda and Lee.

  11. I just reread this post, and had two more thoughts.

First, I think Mara’s character is quite well done in this episode. She would have had to be a nervous wreck but seemed to handle creepy Addi quite convincingly. Her hair style is odd in that last bit, but nonetheless, her character is very intriguing to me.

Secondly, I have no idea what inspired this thought, but would it not have been hilarious if as Amanda is acting like a news person in the opening scene for a Connie Beth girl to come out of the airport – which one was that one that was so competitive? – and said, “Amanda? Is that you?” like the grocery store parking lot scene of There Goes The Neighborhood? 🤣

    1. I like the actress who plays Mara, too. Makes me wonder what she is doing with such a horrible slug.

Hilarious thought about the Connie Beth girl approaching A. Ahahaha. Very good!!!

  12. Hi. My first live walk through. Yeeee! My daughter is walking with me.

Francine also looks good. Maybe she should have been an stewardess. We love Martha Smith and my daughter is sure that no one could have pulled off Francine like Martha did.

Okay, everytime Lee rolls, we crack up. So corny. Run, you silly goose, run! But he rolls dramatically. When he smiles at A, I would really like to see him a little more scuffed up.

I agree about Lee pushing the guard out of the way. Not likely. Either the guard would have stopped him or helped him. So what was in that armored truck? Millions of dollars in cash? Did it all blow? Whatever it was or wasn’t, it would be 3-5 years of insurance misery. But Lee is smiling. Not his problem. He thwarted scuzzy guy again, saved lives, and A is A-Okay. Life is good!

    1. Thanks for the welcome. Dear Daughter (DD) and I are happy to meet all of you.

So, it started with Billy. Ahhh. His facial expressions are phenominal. We started to slo-mo the DVD and took pics of him, then would use them as memes when we texted each other. It grew from there. Lots of pics and video clips of our favorite scenes. I got this pic and the timing was perfect. I feel like it sums up a lot of what their relationship is about. He looks SOOOO protective and she is accepting his protection. This theme is often vice/versa throughout the series, along with friendship, love, holding each other accountable, doing the work, staying out of the way, etc. But, I wonder if it is precisely the contrast that makes the show so special. Thoughts? How many other shows allow a character, male or female, to be truly vulnerable AND strong? Maybe the audience can relate when characters are scared and accept help. Years ago, my DH and I both said we feel safe with each other. Awww swoon. I think when we see A feeling safe with Lee, our hearts just melt. Well, mine does. Where are those smelling salts?

  13. THIS IS SO EXCITING!!! My first real-time walk through! 🙌
This may be my favorite episode. Though I really have a hard time choosing just one, especially since finding JWWM and learning how to appreciate every episode. Before then, I would say this surely was my favorite. There are a lot of images that stayed in my mind throughout the years from this episode. I think this episode was a culmination of a lot of things professionally and personally for several characters (obviously, particularly Lee and Amanda), but also a serious step with plot and what they could do with a really intense baddie. Which brings me to….
Mommynificent, I totally echo your feelings about Addie being so creepy. And as much as he gives me the eebie jeebies, I also applaud the show for venturing into a character like him. Now if only Sonya from Stemwinders and Addie had had a blind date, they would win the ickiest couple ever award.
Random thought alert: I think Francine looks pretty here as a stewardess.
Phyllis reminds me of Rita from ALSALS. 😂 #hairdont
I’m glad to see the wardrobe person yet again is using humongous sunglasses on sweet little Amanda’s face (NOT!). (Remember the worst sunglasses moment ever in the van on Stemwinder 2?😂)
Did I mention that this is CRAZY EXCITING!?!?!

      1. Iwsod and the JWWM crew came up with “hair don’t” back in Season 2 when Amanda’s hair was super short. 😁 I’ve always thought it was hilariously brilliant!

I think I forget about 90% of what I’ve written here.. and fans who have recently discovered the blog and read through the walk so far? I think they probably actually have a better idea right now of what I think that I do. rofl.
But I confess – I actually remember coming up with ‘hair-don’t’ and giggling myself silly over it [not to say others hadn’t said it before – but I hadn’t heard it before]. can’t remember where I came up with it for the first time though, it may be over on the yuku form before I started this little hobbie. lol.
I think it was right up there with the ‘nonsemble’. which I didn’t come up with. Happycamper0 came up with that in the comments of ( you guessed it) a Lovely Little Affair. I was definitely snorting over that one! [In the comments of this post]

  14. Welcome back everyone! Excited for this episode!

I love that glance between Lee and Amanda. He’s looking for her to make sure she’s okay, but also may have just wanted to see her face after all that intensity. Lee’s somersault always makes me laugh. So dramatic. Or did he think someone would still try to shoot at him? Yes, that image of the guy with his butt in the air is sort of funny too. In case of lightning AND bomb threat maybe? lol

Quick question. The guy next to Yusef in the beginning. Is that Billy? Just curious and I can’t tell even though I’ve replayed the scene.

I took it to Geek Squad to have them check it out and they said, “Lady, it’s a PICNIC problem: problem in chair not in computer.” So I went home and checked my chair. No electronics there. Chair is working fine. Guess I’m lucky that I got the dud laptop that likes SMK. See, there is a God.

  15. So much of this episode passed me by on first viewing because it completely depended on you noticing all these little details like the camera operator being there so that Birol had the film later, or that Mara sneezed. It is really dense with the visiual hints.

I love that Lee is portrayed as this super agent who has managed to foil thei insternational terrorist group over and over and yet in the episodes he really just comes off as same old Lee: harried by paperwork, confused by computers and trailing in Amanda’s wake most of the time.

So true! I just watched the beginning of this episode and noticed the young woman, who placed the blue suitcase in the lineup, extended her index finger downward underneath the handle. I suspect she was arming the explosive device.

    2. I had seen this episode several times, and I never noticed that the sneeze woman was Mara. I must have been distracted by Lee and his fancy uniform. This is what is so great about the walk- even though I have watched SMK many times, there are still new small details to enjoy (or I am just exceptionally unobservant, but that’s a whole other subject!)

  16. I’m so excited!! I’m here for the walk in real-time!!! And it’s one of my top three favorite episodes!!! Squeeee!!!!

I confess, the first time I saw this, I had no idea what was happening here. The airport scene goes so fast, and well, Lee is in a uniform. Enough said. And then he looks at Amanda like that. Thud.

I definitely didn’t catch that Mara was sneezing lady. I’m not sure I even noticed that it was a sneezing lady that tipped Lee off actually. I am now wondering why Berol can focus so clearly on Amanda in the video and not notice sneezing lady??!

One more thing and I’ll stop. Berol is awful. He is a really bad baddie for me, so creepy, and so not funny. I miss Zeroiev already.

    1. I know!! I was thinking when I finally published this – whooooo I’m so glad that finally mommynificent will get to join us live for a walk through!!
I’ve been enjoying all the comments you’ve shared with us as you’ve caught up but sadly Real life means I can’t necessarily respond as I would during a live walk through. I look forward to discussing with you mommynificient.
I look forward to chatting with everyone again!!!!!!

Yup first plot hole identified. haaaa.. I guess the sneeze was so darn subtle it slipped the notice of the camera operator?!

I miss Zinoiev too – I think I say somethign along those lines a future post. there’s something to be said for the SMK baddies who were funny and not terribly threatening haaaaa.

      1. Wow, did I ever get that name wrong, lol! Thanks for understanding I meant Zinoiev!

No worries about not responding to all my comments as I catch up. I certainly don’t expect you to. I’m just glad you’re enjoying them and not annoyed at how many there have been!!! 🤣 I almost made my goal of catching up before Nightcrawler started! Finished Stemwinder 2 tonight so just two more to go.

    2. Yay! So glad to be back on the walk with all of you! Hi iwsod! Hi everybody! You raise a good point, mommynificent. Birol should have seen that the tall sneezer was one of his women. I think he focuses on Amanda because she screams Lee’s name and then the response team begins to act. He may not know who Scarecrow is, necessarily, but he must recognize that her shouting “Lee!” started a fire storm. Since he’s being thwarted by Scarecrow- maybe this is where he puts two and two together and realizes the good looking pilot must be Scarecrow/Lee. On the other hand, he didn’t recognize someone who shares his bed, so who’s to say?

      1. Yes! the idea that a bunch of paranoid psycho international terrorist doesn;t notice their own Nordic goddess giving the game away is the dopiest!
Although “single camera operator gets multiple POV shots” is a close second. (More on that one later)

      2. The only thing I can figure is that she was supposed to be there with Birol helping him and so he doesn’t really pay attention to her sneeze or catch that it signals Lee somehow. He is watching for the people he doesn’t know so doesn’t even pay attention to her maybe? There’s no way she isn’t on the video – in the pictures above, the camera is literally 3 feet away from her and it’s right between her and the hairdon’t person.

    3. Shoot, I also meant to comment on your comment about the sneeze. That has bothered me, too, for some time. No zoom in on Mara’s sneeze? But zoom in on Amanda’s face? I think it must have been those sunglasses that had the camera person’s attention. Could not look away. 🤣

    4. I agree, don’t think I noticed any of these details the first time I saw this scene, I was too enamored with the looks between Lee and Amanda. Thud, for sure.
