About

This blog is for walking through all 88 episodes of the 80’s TV show Scarecrow and Mrs King. Together SMK fans chat as we go… discovering and sharing new things and just plain having fun together!!!

If you are new here, good things to know: –
Jump on in and say hi and please read the blog commenting guidelines in the sidebar.
Your first comment will go into moderation and need to be approved, once your first comment has been approved you should be able to comment without moderation or any delays in future. Make sure it’s clear from your first comment you are a real person (spoiler: I’m a real person too!) who knows what SMK is – if not – I won’t approve your comment. We want to keep this little corner of the web peaceful so please keep this in mind.

Update!
We’ve finished the walk through all 88 episodes..
it’s time to do it all over again!!!

Walk 1 – Walk 1 aimed to walk through the episodes not jumping ahead with Lee and Amanda’s story- but focusing on where Lee, Amanda and the story are at in each episode as we go along. We tried to keep references to future events to a minimum during Walk 1.

You can view all the Walk 1 posts anytime.
You can find Walk 1 episode posts links in the Season Top Menu.
I will keep comments from Walk 1 permanently readable with the blog posts so these gems are not lost. However, as Walk 2 progresses, Walk 1 blog posts will be gradually closed to new comments, to keep the new comments in the current walk.

**Updated:**

Comments across multiple walks for the same episode/ season will get confusing fast – so I’ve decided to limit this as we go. Once it’s time to walk through an episode, the walk 1 posts will be closed to comment in preparation for walk 2. Let’s see how this goes..

Okay? You are always free to share your comments over on the Yuku forum. (link in top menu ‘SMK Forum’.)

Walk 2 – we are trying out:
shorter length blog posts more often.
being able to refer to future events briefly in current episode being walked through, this has been requested… we’ll give it a go.
Brief references to future events – all good.
Deep dives into future episodes – are best covered in that episode’s own blog posts, or if the comments on the earlier walk are closed – you can discuss on the ‘SMK Forum’ or hold those thoughts for when we get to the episode in Walk 2 and comments open again – won’t be long!!  (This keeps the blog readable)

Two things the blog owner Iwsod would like you to know –
1) Iwsod = ‘I Watch SMK Obsessively Daily’
Soooo it’s basically a lie at this point. haaaaaaa… but, I have kept the name to make it clear who I am online.. and it works for me 😉
2) This blog is not an authoritative reference guide. Nope. 😊 My thoughts and the thoughts shared by fellow smk fans here are not facts, they are just thoughts – I can and probably will change my mind and don’t stand by an opinion I had over 11 years ago – yes this blog is that old. rofl. But then, the show is 40 years old so this blog, in SMK years, is still a baby!!!! 😉

If you love SMK – I’m glad you found us!!!!! And, I hope you will feel welcome to join the episode discussions here – but also no pressure – SMK IS FOR FUN!!!!!

  1. Hi everybody,
I watched SMK in the 80s when it first aired (I was about 8 years old) and then again 30 years later after a friend and I discussed our favorite old TV shows (like The Fall Guy, Remington Steele, MacGyver, …). I bought the SMK DVD set, but my (male) friend just wasn’t as hooked as I was (I really don’t know why 😊). As there was nobody else in real life to discuss it with, I started looking around on the Internet and found your wonderful blog, which I enjoyed very much! Unfortunately, back then you were already in the middle of the walk. The timing just didn’t seem right and I would have been to shy to participate anyway 😉. After I watched all the episodes, I missed that your walk had continued (and even finished).
Now another 10 years later, just a few days ago, I remembered a scene from SMK and got that old DVD set out again. I thought about your blog and was really excited that it is still there and that you are even going for a second walk! So, if you don’t mind, let me catch up on the first episode and I might make it this time! 😊
PS: I´m not a native speaker so please excuse mistakes (or let me know what’s wrong and I`ll try and learn).
PS2: The DVD quality is really poor — is there a better resolution available on a streaming service?

I’m really glad you were reminded of smk and found this blog again – just in time for the next walk woot woot!!!
I know that the show is available through apple, but others may have different suggestions on where to stream it, I think it might depend on what country you are viewing from. (I’m in Australia)

  2. My daughter texted me one day that SMK was on tubi. I hadn’t watched it in years. I’d even forgotten my other daughter had the DVDs. Oh my gosh! I’m having so much fun reconnecting with an old favorite!

About 2-3 weeks later my husband asked me what I was watching and I told him. He remembered the show but never watched it. He wanted to know how many episodes there were. I said 88. He said that’s a lot to catch up on. I didn’t have the heart to tell him I was already in the 3rd season after a dedicated effort to watch several episodes every evening. Lol.

I’m looking forward to walking with you all!

  3. I watched this show religiously as a kid in the 80s with my mom. I’m certain this show set me up for future favorites like “Moonlighting” and “The X-Files.” I remember being confused when the show just went away without any fanfare, but a lot of things did in those days and life moved on, etc. I watched a little bit of Bruce Boxleitner in the 90s in Babylon 5 but those were college years and I had little time for television. I’m certain I never finished it.

But I’ve always known that I really loved Scarecrow & Mrs. King even though I had forgotten the details of the episodes themselves. (Somehow the only scene I remembered with great clarity was their post-wedding scene where they stand by, annoyed while the hotel maid takes her sweet time making up their bed.).

I recently came across the episodes on Tubi and sat down to watch. Or binge. I made it all the way through four seasons in a shockingly low amount of time. (I swear I have two jobs and a life–honestly not sure how I did it.).

But I’m glad I did. S1 and S4 were probably my favorite. There’s something so charming about this genre of TV that is virtually non-existent now. The pilot was spot on — funny, thrilling, romantic with great acting and great production values. And holy cow, the one thing that stuck in my head all these years was how good looking Boxleitner was, with his perfectly feathered 80s hair. The pilot reinforced that I was not wrong to cling to that memory left over from my 9 year old self.

While I still consider myself a massive consumer of pop culture and television, I no longer watch much in the way of network TV anymore; the more interesting and challenging TV are all on the premium channels and streaming platforms.

I had so many questions in my mind as I ran through the episodes that I did some Googling to see if anyone was still around discussing the show. I’m glad I came across this blog. I’m glad there are others out there still interested.

  4. Hi. I just found this site, SMK is my favorite show. It was actually the first show in English I ever watched. I just started watching the 2nd season. I think the 3rd season is my favorite. I didn’t like Lee in the second season, I thought he was so mean, rude and didn’t give Amanda enough credit. I know he starts changing, but man.. I had to fast forward some episodes. I do think that Amanda was the funniest in season 2. I wish we could have seen more of the wedding episode and then maybe have the following episode the one where she gets shot. Hope to talk more later.

  5. Been reading your blog after I found SMK on streaming in the past few weeks. I just love this show- I watched it with my mom throughout my childhood. Lots of good memories. I’m convinced this show is why I love all the crime solving duo shows (xfiles, castle, bones, fringe to name a few lol). Romance in other shows just doesn’t compare! I binged the first 3 seasons and now can’t bring myself to watch the fourth because then it will be over.

Anyway, glad I found your blog. I’ve been enjoying reading your recaps after I watch the episodes. 🙂

I haven’t made a final decision yet, but I think LeesMolly was suggesting we aim to start The first time on 3 October – which is the same date it first aired and a great idea.. I’ll make some decisions/ announcements in time – so subscribe to the blog to get emailed any updates if you want to keep informed. 🙂

  7. I’ve just found your site. I did not watch SMK when I was younger. I’m now watching reruns of the show on a cable channel in Quebec. I’m obsessed. The writing, the cast, they are great! I am at season 4 and I find that we see less cute scenes than in season 3. I hope you continue writing on SMK. Thanks.

  8. What a fun site! Congratulations on such a large undertaking and commitment. So sorry I’m late to the party. BB and KJ had the best chemistry that still holds today as I watch as an adult. Your commentary on the episodes are hilarious too. Having a blast reliving one of my favorite show couples of all time.

  9. Hi Iswod!

I’ve been lurking for a few weeks now and just wanted to thank you for the gift of this site. I remember watching SMK seasons 1 and 2 when I was in high school (oops! I think I just aged myself). But university got in the way and I don’t remember much of seasons 3 and 4.

Fast forward a few years and I re-discovered SMK in the early 2010s before the reality of being in the “sandwich generation” caught up with me. I think I still only got to season 2 and I’m not even sure I got through all of that season. Looking at the episode list, I have no recollection of the last few. Apparently 2 episodes made an impression on me, as I bought OMIT and SOS from the Apple store and it was in my video library for years. I found those 2 episodes a few weeks ago and have re-watched them. And somehow ended up reading your walk-throughs. I am now thirsty for more Lee & Amanda goodness!

Thanks again for this fantastic site!

You can head over to: http://www.smk-land.com and sign up to get access to a members only area where all the scripts, transcripts etc are all gathered together – Petralit a fellow smk fan created the site, and smk fans from all over have been sourcing the scripts and then kindly sharing them with everyone over at smk-land.
So head on over and enjoy!!!
If you find anything interesting – please share it with us (in the episode walk for the episode would be ideal if possible pls – so anyone stopping by will be able to find it easily).

  12. Hello! I recently discovered this site and think you have done an amazing job with it. I know I am many years “late to the party,” but since people are still offering new comments from time to time, I thought I would like to start weighing in too. SMK is my very favorite show, and I am currently re-watching from beginning to end for the first time in nearly 20 years. It is such a joy to rediscover these wonderful characters and their journey together.

A little about myself: I was still in elementary school when the show premiered, but I remember very clearly watching the pilot with my mother, who was a big KJ fan from Charlie’s Angels. I only remember watching a couple of other episodes in “real time,” both from Season 1. My first serious “walk” through the show was in the early 90s, when it was airing on the Family Channel. My sister and I quickly became obsessed — we just loved it so much. We recorded all the episodes on VHS and watched them over and over.

Fast forward a few years, and I moved to Washington, DC to attend college. Sometimes I wonder if SMK had put a subliminal message in the back of my mind that made me want to come here! My second serious watching through the series took place in the early 2000s when I was in law school at Georgetown (Joe King alma mater, LOL). It was airing on Pax, and I was a very active participant on the Pax message boards. So sorry that those are gone now, there were a lot of great people there.

Now, here we are in 2020, and I live in Arlington with my husband and two sons, who are about the same ages as Philip and Jamie! And on a street that looks very much like Amanda’s, LOL. I am watching the series through with my boys, and I am thrilled to find that they love it as much as I do. We all have an especially fun time with it because we know all the DC locations (and we can spot everything that is distinctly NOT filmed in DC). Plus I get to point out the office buildings I have worked in in some of those aerial shots of DC.

As I write this, my boys and I are deep into Season 3, we are really hitting the “good stuff,” and I find that I would love to start offering some comments here and there. So if is okay — you will be hearing more from me! I have found that as I have grown older, married and had children, many of my thoughts about the characters have changed and deepened. I won’t say too much about it for now, only that I used to broadly think of the show as “Lee figuring out that Amanda is good enough for him,” and now I see it much more as “Lee figuring out that he is good enough for Amanda.” That is an oversimplification, but I hope it makes some sense.

Thank you again for creating this great site!

  15. Hello! Not sure how I stumbled across your blog, but have been lurking here for well over a year. You’ve got me hooked! IWSOD, I love how your posts are a delightful mix of minute detail, excellent screenshots, hilarious emoticons, and respectful irreverence.
I’m a child of the 80’s and my family definitely watched SMK, though I think a lot of episodes were preempted for Monday night football? I was always excited by the opening credits because we had the exact same scarecrow which we hung up at Halloween!
Lee is, of course, as “cute” as my little girl memories of him. He looks especially fine in all the European episodes and in the one where he brings a pizza to Amanda’s house. Back then, I couldn’t understand how Lee could be remotely attracted to Amanda, especially in her “hair don’t” phase. Watching the eps in your revised order, as well as from an adult perspective has really helped change my opinion. Service Above and Beyond is the ep I remember most clearly because of the beautiful blue dress (love the color, not the style) and Lee carrying her down the stairs (swoon!) I agree with others that it’s BB’s and KJ’s chemistry that makes this show still watchable today.
Lastly, I’ve been struck by and have been building a list of similarities between SMK and my 90’s favorite, The X-Files. If anyone’s interested, would this make a good guest post or would it be better over at Nedlinger’s?

I haven’t been to Neds in ages! any smk time I get is spent here these days because I don’t get enough!

  16. Well, I am finally biting the bullet and making a [very long] post here! Like so many others, I watched SMK as a younger version of myself, wearing out the VCR to record episodes once it syndicated. Then life happened – college, marriage, and four “small” kids (only one “small boy”, the rest girls) – and gradually my all-time favorite show had become an old friend that I totally lost contact with. About a year ago, something triggered a memory of the show, and I just started searching for SMK anything and everything online, which led me to JWWM. I ordered the series on DVD, and as I watched, I would read through an episode on the walk alongside. I absolutely LOVE this walk and am so very thankful for you all who have kept it alive and well. I genuinely love every post, and find that you articulate so well things I feel or think about a particular scene, character, etc. I am now going back through older episodes now and re-reading them during this break…it is a great way to unwind, look into the development of these amazing characters, see some swoony pics of BB, and laugh out loud so often at comments (or Francine’s outfits)!

I have never posted anything anywhere (I don’t usually even do reviews on Amazon! Ha!), but this blog has become such a special part of my world. IWSOD and other moderators, I just wanted to encourage and thank you for all of your time and effort into this project and the integrity with which you have maintained it. I look forward to finishing season 4. I’m also thankful to find I’m not the only person out there who loves [and obsesses over] this show so much!

Ok, I hope that isn’t too long, so sorry. As long as it is I know I didn’t get everything out that I wanted to! I genuinely thought I would probably never post!

  18. Hello again…just finding the About section and that one can comment here too. Now I did explain a little how I got here in my first comment on the TWWH post, but here it definitely makes more sense. 🙂

So, my actual name is Natalie, and I stumbled upon an SMK episode while it is currently being rerun on German TV. I’ve not watched it during the original run since that’s virtually impossible as I’m too young…let’s just say, if Amanda and Lee should be expecting a baby by series end that could be me, lol.

Anyway, at first I was like “oh my gosh, an 80ies show…ugh”, but then nothing else was on and I was preoccupied with something else, by the end I was watching and found myself doing so the next week too. Quite frankly, BB and KJ’s chemistry had me totally hooked and now I obviously wanted to know if they got together and how – um, the characters that is, lol. …oh well, the rest is history as they say. I ended up looking for info about the series and this is how I found the blog. And am I glad I did! It made me appreciate and love the show even more. It’s just great to be able to see what other fans think of the characters and episodes. That kind of experience helps obessing with a show which I’m definitely am doing now – no day passes by without me watching an episode (Of course I already got myself a copy of the DVDs 😉 )

So that’s my little story of how I found YWWM. It actually made me wish there was a blog like this to every show I love out there. FANtastic idea and terrifically realized!!! ❤

A friend and I taped every episode when it aired in syndication in college and parsed them down to minute details and glances. 1. So far I really surprised how they have NOT commented on technology. haha
I have a hard time not drinking every time Lee has to go find a payphone. Blue Leader can zero in on their radios in their cars but they can’t have some kind of radio for their work communications? I’m betting even in the early 80s military and government had enough technology for that. 😉

My friend and I chalked a whole lot of stuff like that up to “PP” (plot purposes) even in 1990. 😉

  20. Great blog! I am so happy to find other SMK fans. When the showed aired in the 1980’s I was working shift work so I only saw a few episodes. I do remember work colleagues talking about SMK, and ‘Back Then’ the water cooler comments were often the best info on a TV show. Fast forward to another century and country, Germany. SMK was on German TV dubbed into German of course. I started watching SMK, and enjoyed it! For me it was time travel without the DeLoren auto. One thing I get a kick out of is seeing the computer equipment and other high tech toys that were state of the art back then – I worked with a lot that stuff(Yes, I am that old). I then found all 4 seasons on DVD so I could enjoy SMK in English. Another nice surprise was that 8 or 9 episodes were never shown on German TV? Maybe a copyright issue because a few of the actors in these episodes are well known German actors.
I found this blog because I watched SMK episode ‘The Eyes Have It’ and noticed that the photo of Lee’s parents is Kathleen ‘Kick’ Kennedy on her Wedding Day to an Englishman. I was wondering if I was the only one to catch that detail? I was not, and happy that I am not the only person that notices details like that.
Another thing I noticed is that Bruce Boxleitner’s wardrobe in SMK is really good, Ok the guy is a clotheshorse and could were almost anything, but still many of his outfits could be worn today. With the ladies, they would have maybe get rid of the shoulder pads.
Anyway, looks like I found a blog that I will enjoy along with watching SMK.

You’ll find several blog posts about Lee’s ties and the characters’ wardrobes. We love to make fun of some of the 80s fashions, but we also are quick to say when we think they look good. Lee in a tux is a particular favorite look around here as is Amanda in her evening wear. I hope you enjoy reading the many posts and following along with the episodes. Comments on any post are welcome at any time, but we do not get ahead of the blog, so no talk about S4 or even the latter part of ATWAStage (episode we are currently walking through). See you around the blog!

    2. Welcome Donald! – glad you found us! 🙂

Yeah there have been a few interesting differences in what Germany saw of smk – some episodes missing, some story lines changed.. as you read through blog posts you’ll see other German fans have mentioned some instances – let us know if you come across any yourself! 🙂

  23. Again: lovely site! (I posted in a S3 thread yesterday). Last week, I found some old files (txt documents from Usenet in the 90s, when I was in college!) by a “Continuity Queen” which I’d always found hilarious, and decided to google her. This was one of the links that popped up, but …is anyone here the “Continuity Queen”? Just curious and wanted to give her a shout out for years of enjoyment in the late 90s, WELL after the show was over. The writing SEEMS really familiar, but my “continuity queen” folder didn’t have any other name attached (and the files were incomplete too).

It’s so great to see a community up and running in 2016!!!! Thanks!

I think we’re generally a kind bunch 🙂 I must say that I am jealous of your location come next month…I am originally from CT, but I now live in GA where we are sweltering about this time of the year! There is no escaping the heat, even indoors, when Lee Stetson’s dimples are concerned!

  26. Not sure how to begin this as I have never commented on a blog before and sort of a bit embarrassed to do so. I know this will not be as eloquent as many of the posts I have read. However, I wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart to this entire wonderful SMK international fan community for putting this incredible blog together and getting the show released.
I recently rediscovered this show by accident along with the blog. I was searching for the history of fairy tale romances in the media for my middle schooler’s fairy tale unit as I am a teacher. To my shock, the clip from Utopia Now popped up on my search as a YouTube clip. I nearly fell out of my seat not having seen it in I think 30 years.
This show brought back so many wonderful memories for me as it got me through some very tough transitions in my life. It was a wonderful escape from a hard reality. The chemistry and adventures of these two characters kept me coming back every week.
In college, I had a poster of a silver Corvette, and having come from the northeast of the US actually wore a lot of plaid at the time. I could never find Amanda’s red and black plaid. I had green and black. LOL! Unfortunately, with a lot of moving around, I lost my beloved poster, plaid shirts, and VHS tapes of the original airings of the show that I used to watch after late night study sessions.
It is funny timing having found the show again and now the SMK fan community at yet another hard transition in my life. I bought the entire series on Amazon recently and right now am just watching the shows I happen to remember. I am looking forward to starting from the beginning as I am pretty sure I missed some. I have found a place to escape reality or as I have read on this blog to escape into a rabbit whole with a glass of wine and some chocolate at least for a little while. This show puts a smile on my face, a giggle on my lips, and a sigh in my heart every time I think about some of their wonderful scenes. I have found myself actually laughing out loud again at the comments and insights I have been reading. Just wishing I thought to search for this years ago, but I guess better late than never. If I do have some time to comment, I will make sure not to jump ahead and stay where the two characters are in their development. Thank you again from a very grateful long time fan.

I’m really glad you’ve found this blog and that you can join us for the walk. Feel free to share your thoughts from the start, blog posts never close..

thanks for your consideration with not jumping ahead 🙂

Don’t worry eloquence is not a requirement here lol or I’d be in big trouble 😉 tee heee.. All that’s required is an affection for this quirky little 80’s show (ha!).

Like you I’m from the northeastern US and found this blog a wonderful escape that helped me through a very rough time in my life.

Your comments are welcome on any post at any time; we often revisit old posts. That’s part of the fun. So welcome to this fun and wonderful world of Lee and Amanda and Corvettes and plot holes and ridiculous baddies and beloved support characters. It’s definitely a great place to escape to!

    3. Welcome!
I remember feeling just like you. I had never commented on a blog before when I made my first remarks here. Now it doesn’t even feel like an online blog, it feels like a place to hang out with friends. JWWM is the perfect place to unplug for a bit and enjoy pleasant diversion from real life, isn’t it? I think its interesting the way so many of us rediscovered SMK at a difficult season in our lives. I did too. And between Lee and Amanda and the people on this blog I was able to laugh during a time in life where laughter wasn’t really available in real life.
I live in southern New England and I homeschool my children, so I also understand the beauty of summertime!!! I love it! I hope you use your summer to comment often. We love revisiting older posts and hearing new views on the episodes. Everyone brings something interesting to the discussion so don’t hesitate to add your two cents even if you think it is seemingly insignificant. It won’t be because it will give us all something SMK to think about.

      Welcome!

I have homeschooled my daughter too on and off at home where we currently live as well as at her school as her classroom teacher because of her medical issues. We are moving to be near medical specialists for her and my husband as well as the educational programs and services offered. The area is simply beautiful.
With your encouragement, I will share some thoughts and questions that have been bumping around in my head as I have been reading the older posts. I first have to stop laughing and giggling long enough (especially when looking at the photos) to compose my thoughts coherently.

  28. Hi Iwsod,
I just binge-watched all four seasons of SMK (thanks to my 2-week vacation) and was kind of reluctant and sad to let go of the series and the characters just yet. Somewhere in the middle of season 4 (as it became obvious that my happy little bubble was coming to an end) I discovered your amazing blog and I’m sooo glad that I did. Your blog gave my life meaning and purpose again as I can now start watching the entire series all over again – this time in the right order or at least an order that makes more sense 😉

To be totally honest: I’m kind of obsessed with SMK at the moment. I can’t count how many times a day I visit your blog just to walk through episodes. It’s kind of embarrassing, sitting in front of your laptop and grinning like a fool just because you’re watching SMK, reading this blog or watching videos on Youtube (“Sharp Dressed Man” has me grinning like crazy the whole time).

Greetings from Germany and many thanks for this amazing “place”.

I look forward to maybe hearing some of your thoughts on the episodes as you walk through again and rewatch. Any and all insights related to the smk walk are welcome!
[Just avoid jumping ahead of where the current walk is up to please 🙂 ]

I’m yet to get into season 4 with the walk, so I guess that ‘impending end’ feeling is going to hit me eventually too.. gah! I intend to go back to season 1 and walk through that again – in more detail than I did originally.
You’ll see the blog has been (and still is) a work in progress, and the walk has varied a little over the years – I’m now at a point where I think I’ve mostly found a happy groove…. and it involves lots of wonderful smk details! 🙂

A two week smk binge sounds ideal for me right now. Lucky you!!
Real life is more busy than I’d like but.. oh well.. I squeeze in smk time where I can!

Sharp dressed man is fabulous indeed! Do also check out Lovesmk’s blog- she’s a real talent I agree! (The link is in side bar – ‘getting to know you’ it’s called) and also check out the forum called Nedlindger’s – which is an smk forum that is an off shoot of this blog. We needed a little place to go to for conversation not directly related to blog posts (on a blog random conversation can get lost quickly!). See the side bar for a link to the Nedlindger’s forum also 🙂
uh oh… have I just fed your obsession even more? muahahahahaaaa!!! 🙂

When I discovered this blog I was sad to see that it stopped somewhere mid-season 3 and I thought that whoever created this blog had lost interest (or that life got in the way) as I only remembered the date the blog was started. You can’t belive how relieved I was when I saw that you where still “walking”.
I look forward to commenting as much as my time will allow. Sadly vacations can’t go on forever…

I can’t believe it either!! We started in 2011. wow! 🙂 I think if I’d stopped to think oh it will take me about 6 years to walk through all the episodes, I might never have started!! 🙂 I’m glad I didn’t think that.. and I’m glad I started 🙂

And I need to be honest here Christina, this walk is not something I continue on my own at all!!!!
This walk continues thanks to everyone who stops by and joins the walk – if there was no one walking with me, I would have hopped on a bus by now 😉 [notice Christina, this includes you 🙂 ]
And.. so many smk fans who stop by here actually practically contribute to the walk, by transcribing dialogue and sending it to me, so I can use it in the posts.. Without this – I would not have been able to keep the walk continuing at any pace due to real life commitments.

So.. long story short – everyone who stops by here is contributing to keeping this walk going. And thank you everyone!!!! 🙂

I look forward to commenting as much as my time will allow. Sadly vacations can’t go on forever…

  34. Hi, I have just recently found you.
I loved the show in the 80’s and had to get my friend to tape it for me, as I did not have a VCR yet, I can’t remember why I couldn’t watch it when it aired, but I remember racing over as soon as I had time, to watch it. I loved it.
I still need to buy the DVD’s and gave only been able to watch episodes online, but quality not great that way.
I am really looking forward to following the rest of the series with you and when I get my DVD’s I will be watching over and over again.
Where is the best place to get them? I have been looking online, but need to make sure I can play in Australia.

    1. Hi Carol! And welcome to JWWM! You have come across this little “All-things-SMK-loving” community at the perfect time! We are just discussing Utopia Now and that big “Not exactly….” walk-off comment by Amanda! I live in the States, so don’t have any useful DVD purchasing advice for Australia, but I’m sure that Iwsod will be along soon to welcome you and can help you out with that – she is an SMK DVD master!

Welcome again and hope you enjoy hanging out here!

By the way, and I know you are concentrating on Utopia right now, but which episode does Lee, realize he loves Amanda and actually kisses her properly?

      1. Hi Carol. I’m not iwsod but I am in Australia so I can tell you about the dvd. I did see the region 4 (Au/NZ) dvds in Target and Big W but they don’t seem to be there at the moment (but I’m in the West so it might be different for you as either you’re in the Eastern states or you wake up very early). Your best is the Australian ebay. My advice: if you can afford it, buy all four seasons at once so you don’t have to wait….
Iwsod’s policy with this blog is that we don’t skip ahead of where we are in the walk so no-one can answer your kiss question, but we have a forum called Nedlindgers where you can ask your question and I (or someone else) will answer quickly 🙂

        Like

      2. Welcome Carol!!! Another Aussie??!!! whoooo hoooo!!!! So exciting!!!

To answer your questions about DVDs, I bought season 1 at target when it was first released, but I think there wasn’t enough Australian sales so they didn’t release anymore in Australia.
I ordered the rest from Amazon.com – I’d say go for it and just get them from Amazon.com- or as Learjet suggested.. ebay.com.au might be a source also. At least with Amazon you know they are not counterfeit..

A great question -when does Lee realise he loves Amanda and actually kiss her properly?
For a straight out answer to this one – please head over to the forum Nedlindger’s and ask it there – people will love to help you with that there. [It’s very simple and easy to join]

Here on Just Walk with Me, the philosophy is that we stick with where the characters are at – and we don’t jump ahead with the story (or maybe I should say we don’t walk ahead of Lee and Amanda.. we walk WITH them 🙂
… the idea is that we can attempt to experience the story as the characters would have.. or as we would have when we originally watched the show air back in the 80s.

I think I watched 2 episodes in the 80s and completely lost track of it, so experiencing the show’s story like this has been a really new and interesting way to enjoy the show.

So to answer your question in a Just Walk With Me frame of mind Carol.. now we are at utopia now, I’m thinking that Lee on some level realizes now that he loves Amanda – but figuring out how he can do this love thing, and actually acting on it with Amanda and ‘actually kissing her’ has not happened yet. Will it happen soon? I try to forget what I know of what’s ahead.. which raises a whole bunch of new and interesting questions which help us to explore the characters and their journey – now Amanda has put ‘not exactly’ out there- what’s Lee going to do with it??!!!
Some of us put Sour Grapes after Utopia Now.. but.. if you didn’t.. you would be looking forward to the next episode to see where they stand wouldn’t you??!! You’d be wondering for a week- eek!!! what’s Lee gonna do with it?!! he going to jump into things?? or is he going to take a step back?? or will he maybe do neither?? I look forward to continuing this walk and enjoying the story as it unfolds [If you’d like to discuss utopia now, head over to the episode posts to discuss – if you can’t find something on JWWM feel free to email me and ask for a link, the layout of the blog might take some getting use to]
        – sometimes what the characters don’t do can tell us new things about the characters we wouldn’t learn if we didn’t stop to explore where the characters are at right now..
Soooo Carol, this is a rather long and rambling welcome.. eek!
I hope you will feel free to jump on in and share – any smk thoughts of every variety are very welcome.. we don’t always see the characters the same way here on JWWM – and that’s half the fun.. the only request is that we don’t refer to anything that’s ahead in the story 🙂
I look forward to hearing from another Aussie!!! whooo hoo!! (you in the west or the east? – don’t answer if you don’t want to.. all good! byeee)

  35. Hi Iwsod! I came across your site about a month ago and have been reading, laughing, smiling, enjoying, daydreaming….ever since. You have given me much joy – LIke many people here I have loooooved this show for many years and often felt like the only one who knew of this great series. I remember seeing the commercial for the first episode and it catching my attention that I made it a point to watch it. I’ve been a fan (sometimes fanatic) ever since. Of course, I loved Scarecrow (and his hair) the most but the chemistry and love story really connected with me for some reason.
For a long time I thought I was the only one out there but looks like there’s lots of us SMKers.
Many many thanks. Reading your blog has definitely brought happiness and smiles to me.

And yep, there are lots of people out there who love SMK (and Lee’s hair 😉 ). I’m sure iwsod will also greet you as soon as she can, but I just wanted to say welcome and happy exploring the blog! Do you have access to watching the show now?

you’ve picked a really interesting time to join in commenting as we swap ideas about over the limit – phew! Such a big episode for Lee and Amanda and dare I say it- for us fans too! 🙂

      1. Thank you all for being so welcoming…I do have access to watching the show – have all the DVDs (yeah!) but just need to find the time. With 2 small kids the tv is mostly on SuperWhy or Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. No nice hair there….

I loved the show so much that I taped the episodes on a VCR when they originally aired, then taped them to a cassette so that I could at least listen to them. (My folks wouldn’t allow me to watch tv on weekdays but they let me listen to my Walkman. Oh boy, showing my age…)I no longer have a VCR but I still have those tapes someplace.

I’m starting reading from Season One but perhaps I should bounce ahead…Thank you again. Knowing others share fondness for this show is a great thing!

  37. Dear iwosd,
I discovered your blog a few months ago and I was so surprised, amazed and so happy to find out that I am not the only maniac out there who is still obsessed and in love with a thirty year old TV show.
Back in the 80s I was such a big fan of this show but over the years I completely forgot about it and last October by accident I stumbled over some SMK music videos on YouTube and I was swept off my feet… and later I found out that exactly that day was Kate Jackson’s 65th Birthday – nice coincidence :o)
I immediately ordered all DVDs and watched all episodes almost twice until now. Amanda and Lee are for me definitely the most lovable TV couple I’ve seen so far. They’ve really touched my heart. Every time I watch an episode it just makes me happy and having found your blog, reading all the funny comments and interesting discoveries you make it is really the cherry on the cake. Please keep up with your journey… I will certainly walk with you.
Maybe not with actively commenting so much, as English is not my first language it always takes a while to write things down and it’s difficult to express all this subtle interpersonal nuances you discuss, but be assured I am out there a big, big fan of SMK and your blog.

    1. Hello MarA! Welcome!!!!

So glad you decided to comment and say hello!!! It is such an encouragement to hear from you and others that you are reading and enjoying the journey!

I understand if you don’t comment often – there is no pressure – just know that if or when you do – I love to hear from you 🙂 it truly is an encouragement!

If there’s anything said here on the blog by myself or others which you don’t understand feel free to ask us to clarify or explain what we mean.. I try to avoid too much Australian jargon but it does slip in from time to time! what a great way to practice your English – with Lee and Amanda! 🙂

I had a similar experience to you – when I rediscovered smk, I consumed all the smk you tube videos I could find!!!!
You are lucky though MarA! when I rediscovered smk, there were no official dvds which I could order.. I just lived in hope they would be released one day..

I guess this blog is a celebration of this hope being fulfilled – we did get the dvds in the end after all those years of wishing!!!! So now, we can revisit the show on a long, slow journey and just savour it – you know?

The exact day of Kate Jackson’s 65th birthday? very cool!! I agree – and am sure many others here will agree with you- that this is the most lovable couple on tv I’ve seen! All others pale in comparison! Lovely to hear they’ve touched your heart MarA, I hope your heart is touched some more as we walk through the episodes – you’ve joined us at a very crucial time in Lee and Amanda’s story!

At the same time though, feel free to go back to earlier episodes.. and share any of your thoughts or likes or questions as much as you like. Posts are always open for us to post new comments 🙂

Just started watching our favourite duo again from the beginning last night & thought I’d try the watch/read along – though I do admit I think it took me longer to read the blog on ‘The First Time’ than it took to watch the episode LOL!
Looking forward to watching the coming episodes with everyone.
I’m in Australia as well & can well relate to Iwsod regarding anyone away from here thinking I was a weirdo re drooling over Lee whom I had a massive crush on from the age of 10.

I understand well how few people really got to see smk in Australia and the lack of Austrailan smk fans – why do you think that is? I think the humour would have appealed to Australians.. maybe people just didn’t get to watch it?
Did you see the whole show on tv during it’s first run? I didn’t. I saw two or three episodes and that’s it!
which state (or territory) are you in?

Really glad you found us.. Hey so you are starting at the first time are you?

      1. Hi
        Thanks for the nice welcome.
I’m in NSW – grew up in Newcastle at the time SMK would have aired on tv. I did watch a lot of it on tv at the time as my mum & dad were fans as well – they’ve also had a walk down memory lane & watched the DVDs.
I also remember ‘torturing’ my friends in primary school with recaps of the episodes the next day after they had aired & none of them seemed to watch it so the recaps were fairly substantial – always with a great big dose of how gorgeous Lee was. It must have had some kind of following though cause I remember having pics & posters of him from tv week stuck to my wall (with glue – mum wasn’t happy!)
As far as the avatar – absolutely adore ‘cute Lee’. There are a few times he pulls that ‘puppy dog’ face & I melt every time – really glad individual spots on DVDs don’t wear out!

I think I’ll be able to catch up pretty well to where you’re at in the series, although I definitely don’t want to rush through the first 2 seasons too quickly as they are definitely my fav’s.

Thanks again for the nice welcome & hope to have something more to contribute soon

I bet your mum was mad because she wishes she could have had Lee Stetson on her wall 😉 haaa…
I wish I’d had a friend like you in high school Ebineez, because I wasn’t able to watch the show most of the time.. and with no vcr, I just missed out – which probably explains why I’ve gone nuts with smk over the last 5 or 6 years since rediscovering it.. [and why my ol handle was initially ‘I Want SMK on DVD’!!! but then they were finally released so I just became ‘Iwsod’ 🙂 ]

Email me if you’d like to get more specific about geography [though no pressure] 🙂
          iwsod@optusnet.com.au
I’m in NSW now and moving to QLD this week! (but try not to get more specific than that on the web!) 🙂

I look forward to hearing your thoughts Ebineez, the pace of the blog over the last few months has been fast [because iwsod has been impatient to move forward and had way too much time on her hands 😮 ] but I am now slowing down things a little- so this will make it easier for people to catch up on earlier episodes too I imagine..
I am thinking I’d like to go back and reread posts on s1 and s2 to refresh my memory on what has come before Season 3. I am thinking there will be lots of looking back to earlier times as things move forward with Lee and Amanda 🙂

I may have said what I use to copy dvds.

I use to use AoA dvd ripper.. till my computer died and I had buy new software.. now I use DVDFab and that’s so far great too.. either is fine.

There are free versions but I did a trial version of DVDFab, gave it a go and then bought it..

      Good luck! 🙂

And can I ask what other series are off interest to SMK viewers? I just re-watched Remington Steele (hate that last season, like most viewers, I think). Looking for other series. 🙂

  41. Hello! I have to say that this is an awesome site. I loved Scarecrow and Mrs. King when it originally aired and recently got a Kindle and have been streaming it. I am so happy that others love(d) the show so much. After reading some of the posts I go back and look at the episode again and sometimes see it in a new way. I even wear headphones to catch some of the comments.

I also like the stats for each episode and thought it would be great to see how many times they ask each other “Are you all right?”. It would also be great to count how many times Amanda has that purse of hers. I hadn’t really noticed it until I watched several episodes all at once. In “Spiderweb” she even keeps it on after dropping everything else to pick up the bat and Lee even puts it back on her shoulder when it starts to come off.

I also wanted to add that I recently came across a two part interview on Youtube that they did with Merv Griffin. It was so cute and so true to their characters. When Kate Jackson started to sort of ramble at one point, Bruce Boxleitner called her “Amanda”. It was awesome.

I can’t wait to read each post and look forward to each one. Thanks for providing a place for us die hard fans.
