About

This blog is for walking through all 88 episodes of the 80’s TV show Scarecrow and Mrs King. Together SMK fans chat as we go… discovering and sharing new things and just plain having fun together!!!

If you are new here, good things to know: –
Jump on in and say hi and please read the blog commenting guidelines in the sidebar.
Your first comment will go into moderation and need to be approved, once your first comment has been approved you should be able to comment without moderation or any delays in future. Make sure it’s clear from your first comment you are a real person (spoiler: I’m a real person too!) who knows what SMK is – if not – I won’t approve your comment. We want to keep this little corner of the web peaceful so please keep this in mind.

Update!
We’ve finished the walk through all 88 episodes..
it’s time to do it all over again!!!

Walk 1 – Walk 1 aimed to walk through the episodes not jumping ahead with Lee and Amanda’s story- but focusing on where Lee, Amanda and the story are at in each episode as we go along. We tried to keep references to future events to a minimum during Walk 1.

You can view all the Walk 1 posts anytime.
You can find Walk 1 episode posts links in the Season Top Menu.
I will keep comments from Walk 1 permanently readable with the blog posts so these gems are not lost. However, as Walk 2 progresses, Walk 1 blog posts will be gradually closed to new comments, to keep the new comments in the current walk.

**Updated:**

Comments across multiple walks for the same episode/ season will get confusing fast – so I’ve decided to limit this as we go. Once it’s time to walk through an episode, the walk 1 posts will be closed to comment in preparation for walk 2. Let’s see how this goes..

Okay? You are always free to share your comments over on the Yuku forum. (link in top menu ‘SMK Forum’.)

Walk 2 – we are trying out:
shorter length blog posts more often.
being able to refer to future events briefly in current episode being walked through, this has been requested… we’ll give it a go.
Brief references to future events – all good.
Deep dives into future episodes – are best covered in that episode’s own blog posts, or if the comments on the earlier walk are closed – you can discuss on the ‘SMK Forum’ or hold those thoughts for when we get to the episode in Walk 2 and comments open again – won’t be long!!  (This keeps the blog readable)

Two things the blog owner Iwsod would like you to know –
1) Iwsod = ‘I Watch SMK Obsessively Daily’
Soooo it’s basically a lie at this point. haaaaaaa… but, I have kept the name to make it clear who I am online.. and it works for me 😉
2) This blog is not an authoritative reference guide. Nope. 😊 My thoughts and the thoughts shared by fellow smk fans here are not facts, they are just thoughts – I can and probably will change my mind and don’t stand by an opinion I had over 11 years ago – yes this blog is that old. rofl. But then, the show is 40 years old so this blog, in SMK years, is still a baby!!!! 😉

If you love SMK – I’m glad you found us!!!!! And, I hope you will feel welcome to join the episode discussions here – but also no pressure – SMK IS FOR FUN!!!!!

  1. Hi everybody,
I watched SMK in the 80s when it first aired (I was about 8 years old) and then again 30 years later after a friend and I discussed our favorite old TV shows (like The Fall Guy, Remington Steele, MacGyver, …). I bought the SMK DVD set, but my (male) friend just wasn’t as hooked as I was (I really don’t know why 😊). As there was nobody else in real life to discuss it with, I started looking around on the Internet and found your wonderful blog, which I enjoyed very much! Unfortunately, back then you were already in the middle of the walk. The timing just didn’t seem right and I would have been to shy to participate anyway 😉. After I watched all the episodes, I missed that your walk had continued (and even finished).
Now another 10 years later, just a few days ago, I remembered a scene from SMK and got that old DVD set out again. I thought about your blog and was really excited that it is still there and that you are even going for a second walk! So, if you don’t mind, let me catch up on the first episode and I might make it this time! 😊
PS: I´m not a native speaker so please excuse mistakes (or let me know what’s wrong and I`ll try and learn).
PS2: The DVD quality is really poor — is there a better resolution available on a streaming service?

    1. hi Roadrunner! Whoa, what a journey to get here and join the walk! 🙂 Welcome!!!!
I’m really glad you were reminded of smk and found this blog again – just in time for the next walk woot woot!!!
I know that the show is available through apple, but others may have different suggestions on where to stream it, I think it might depend on what country you are viewing from. (I’m in Australia)

  2. My daughter texted me one day that SMK was on tubi. I hadn’t watched it in years. I’d even forgotten my other daughter had the DVDs. Oh my gosh! I’m having so much fun reconnecting with an old favorite!

About 2-3 weeks later my husband asked me what I was watching and I told him. He remembered the show but never watched it. He wanted to know how many episodes there were. I said 88. He said that’s a lot to catch up on. I didn’t have the heart to tell him I was already in the 3rd season after a dedicated effort to watch several episodes every evening. Lol.

I’m looking forward to walking with you all!

  3. I watched this show religiously as a kid in the 80s with my mom. I’m certain this show set me up for future favorites like “Moonlighting” and “The X-Files.” I remember being confused when the show just went away without any fanfare, but a lot of things did in those days and life moved on, etc. I watched a little bit of Bruce Boxleitner in the 90s in Babylon 5 but those were college years and I had little time for television. I’m certain I never finished it.

But I’ve always known that I really loved Scarecrow & Mrs. King even though I had forgotten the details of the episodes themselves. (Somehow the only scene I remembered with great clarity was their post-wedding scene where they stand by, annoyed while the hotel maid takes her sweet time making up their bed.).

I recently came across the episodes on Tubi and sat down to watch. Or binge. I made it all the way through four seasons in a shockingly low amount of time. (I swear I have two jobs and a life–honestly not sure how I did it.).

But I’m glad I did. S1 and S4 were probably my favorite. There’s something so charming about this genre of TV that is virtually non-existent now. The pilot was spot on — funny, thrilling, romantic with great acting and great production values. And holy cow, the one thing that stuck in my head all these years was how good looking Boxleitner was, with his perfectly feathered 80s hair. The pilot reinforced that I was not wrong to cling to that memory left over from my 9 year old self.

While I still consider myself a massive consumer of pop culture and television, I no longer watch much in the way of network TV anymore; the more interesting and challenging TV are all on the premium channels and streaming platforms.

I had so many questions in my mind as I ran through the episodes that I did some Googling to see if anyone was still around discussing the show. I’m glad I came across this blog. I’m glad there are others out there still interested.

  4. Hi. I just found this site, SMK is my favorite show. It was actually the first show in English I ever watched. I just started watching the 2nd season. I think the 3rd season is my favorite. I didn’t like Lee in the second season, I thought he was so mean, rude and didn’t give Amanda enough credit. I know he starts changing, but man.. I had to fast forward some episodes. I do think that Amanda was the funniest in season 2. I wish we could have seen more of the wedding episode and then maybe have the following episode the one where she gets shot. Hope to talk more later.

  5. Been reading your blog after I found SMK on streaming in the past few weeks. I just love this show- I watched it with my mom throughout my childhood. Lots of good memories. I’m convinced this show is why I love all the crime solving duo shows (xfiles, castle, bones, fringe to name a few lol). Romance in other shows just doesn’t compare! I binged the first 3 seasons and now can’t bring myself to watch the fourth because then it will be over.

Anyway, glad I found your blog. I’ve been enjoying reading your recaps after I watch the episodes. 🙂

I haven’t made a final decision yet, but I think LeesMolly was suggesting we aim to start The first time on 3 October – which is the same date it first aired and a great idea.. I’ll make some decisions/ announcements in time – so subscribe to the blog to get emailed any updates if you want to keep informed. 🙂

Weren’t we lucky to have a show like smk to watch when we were young!!! (ok I only had a few episodes but that was enough for me to totally fall for a certain spy cough cough)

  7. I’ve just found your site. I did not watch SMK when I was younger. I’m now watching reruns of the show on a cable channel in Quebec. I’m obsessed. The writing, the cast, they are great! I am at season 4 and I find that we see less cute scenes than in season 3. I hope you continue writing on SMK. Thanks.

  8. What a fun site! Congratulations on such a large undertaking and commitment. So sorry I’m late to the party. BB and KJ had the best chemistry that still holds today as I watch as an adult. Your commentary on the episodes are hilarious too. Having a blast reliving one of my favorite show couples of all time.

  9. Hi Iswod!

I’ve been lurking for a few weeks now and just wanted to thank you for the gift of this site. I remember watching SMK seasons 1 and 2 when I was in high school (oops! I think I just aged myself). But university got in the way and I don’t remember much of seasons 3 and 4.

Fast forward a few years and I re-discovered SMK in the early 2010s before the reality of being in the “sandwich generation” caught up with me. I think I still only got to season 2 and I’m not even sure I got through all of that season. Looking at the episode list, I have no recollection of the last few. Apparently 2 episodes made an impression on me, as I bought OMIT and SOS from the Apple store and it was in my video library for years. I found those 2 episodes a few weeks ago and have re-watched them. And somehow ended up reading your walk-throughs. I am now thirsty for more Lee & Amanda goodness!

Thanks again for this fantastic site!

      1. Hi Iwsod! Thank you for the warm welcome and apologies for mis-spelling your name in my earlier comment (sorry!).

I’m planning on re-watching season 1 soon. Trying to ration the Lee & Amanda goodness, to make it last as long as possible, but there’s no guarantee that I won’t binge-watch. LOL!

      1. Thanks so much! I see references in several posts to changes made to the show from the original “scripts.” Is there a place we can see the drafts of the original scripts? It is so interesting to see what changes they made between a draft and airing.
        thanks again! Mary Nelson

        1. Hi Mary, sorry for the delay in responding, I don’t tend to get online till the weekends unless it’s really urgent at the moment.

Anyway, where to find the original scripts? You can head over to: http://www.smk-land.com and sign up to get access to a members only area where all the scripts, transcripts etc are all gathered together – Petralit a fellow smk fan created the site, and smk fans from all over have been sourcing the scripts and then kindly sharing them with everyone over at smk-land.
So head on over and enjoy!!!
If you find anything interesting – please share it with us (in the episode walk for the episode would be ideal if possible pls – so anyone stopping by will be able to find it easily).

I’ve been enjoying your posts and having you share with us your thoughts as you go – do please keep them coming.
I don’t get to respond or check here as often as I would like at the moment, but your comments are definitely being read and hitting the inbox of others here so keep them coming and me or someone will reply to you eventually – or, there’s always the next walk through to loop around and start this walk all over again!!!! 🙂
