Lee and Amanda are off to the muuud wreeestling!.(I never thought I would type that! 
nooo it’s not a date.. it’s business! )
It is kind of ridiculous though, once they get there, how Lee is super gorgeous and Amanda has been pelted with muuud! It looks 
to me like all that girls in biiikini’s and muuudwrestling stuff is all stock footage.. ( footage recycled from a Duran Duran film clip maybe ) clean lee and muddy amanda = ridiculous!!! but hey! At least Lee is apologising! ( Is he apologising here for the mud, or for men in general!!!
)
(it looks like he is holding her hand here huh.. but he isn’t ) I gotta say it is sweet when Lee is 
preparing Amanda for what is ahead, that he is going to have to leave her where she is and go talk to the 
worm.. I love the look on her face though when he first says he wants her to wait there
( surrounded by men drooling over muuud wrestling women all 
alone – yuck!!) But Lee is sensitive to her here- and he does say please! 
(Also, he knows the worm is even more icky than what’s 
going on in the main event! )..and because of it- Brave Amanda goes along.. Lee gets up to leave…Amanda: Leeeeeeee.
Lee: what?
Amanda: I’ll be.. waiting ( but not forever Lee so hurry up, get a clue and ask her out already ).. ….here.
Lee: Goooood.
Lee gives her a sweet little smile (if not slightly bemused) for being a trooper! awhhhhhh..
So, into the picture comes Auggie Worm errr Swan! the lecherous information broker.. I must 
say this introduction to Auggie is a shame.. I don’t find men who 
mistreat women funny.. so I just try and forget about him 
coming on to that poor girl calling him a pig as Lee arrives.. yuck.. Only to have Auggie tell Lee ‘ She likes me. ‘ yuck! I don’t think that joke would be attempted these days.. no longer pc.. YMMV but I find there are a few moments of sexual harassment in SMK that make me cringe.. this introduction is one of them!
Auggie making the mistake of calling Lee a 
friend? Lee isn’t having any of that with Auggie! ( but hooray! Amanda is in that club now! ) Anyway, Lee 
treats Auggie like he really is a worm.. turns out Auggie doesn’t know who has the book..
Overall I enjoy the Auggie character.. he’s great for adding humour- what about you?
Love it when Auggie is defending himself and his worth to Lee and he says “did I ever give you false information?!!! … oh purpose!” ”
or ever jack up my price in the middle of a deal?!!!… outrageously?!”
Auggie doesn’t have the book, but he does have some pages which were dropped off with the ransom demand.. and he hands them over to Lee.. 
Meanwhile Amanda has sat still long enough. 
Looking at her watch, I think it suddenly dawns 
on her how long she has been gone while off to get something for her headache!! LOL at this camera angle!! Amanda takes 
off looking for a phone.. LOL!!! See the big poster on the post??? That’s Bob Dylan!! Three weeks in a row!!!! Anyone who can find the Bob Dylan reference in the next episode wins a prize!!! 
Auggie hands over the pages of the manuscript..for Free.. what a guy ( Lester the duck?!) Lee says he owes him one.. and leaves a happy man- until…
Just as Lee is leaving and opens the door, Amanda is on the other side looking for a pay phone.. and Auggie thinks his dreams have come true! 
(love how Lee at first tries to stand between Auggie and her!)
Amanda: Oh excuse me.
Lee: Amanda? what are you doing here?
Amanda: I was looking for a payphone I need to 
call my mother.
Auggie: Lee where have you been 
hiding this one? 
(to Amanda): August Riley Swan! At your service.
Amanda smiles nicely and silently shakes his hand.
Lee: Auggie. She’s not your type.
( Lee thinks he is an expert on what ‘type’ Amanda is!! Lee gives Auggie the message – 
hands off!!!) 
Haaa!!! Lee can’t get Amanda out of there fast enough!
Auggie: don’t be so sure, we could use the clean cut American type.
Lee tries to usher Amanda out.. (whoo he’s so protective here! I’ll bet that’s why Auggie is so persistent too.. Just to annoy Lee! )
When Auggie tries to give Amanda his card and offer her a job muuuud wreeestling?
Auggie: Have you ever done any wreeestling?
Amanda: no. (Lee is annoyed Amanda is nice to Auggie I think- Amanda! don’t encourage the guy!)
Auggie: Never matter
Lee: Auggie!
Auggie: they fake most of it anyway. Here. Take my card. Ever want to try out..
Amanda: I don’t think I-
Lee: Auggie!!!
Amanda: No thank you, I don’t think I will.
Auggie: are you sure? I can get you a cut rate on dry-cleaning.
Lee: AUGGIE!!!!
I just love watching Lee in this scene 
– he can’t believe Auggie is trying to give Amanda his card, he almost takes it off Amanda and hands it back to Auggie himself, only Amanda beats him to it! when Auggie tries to hand it to her again, Lee was close to clocking him!!!!
Auggie: just keep the card.
Amanda: no thank you.
Lee: Hey!!!!!
Auggie: whaaa????!!
Lee: Amanda. we have work to do.
Amanda: gotta go
Auggie: okay, are you sure?
Amanda: I’m sure
Auggie: well if you ever change your mind
( oh will this ever end??!!! rofl!! ) you let me know okay?
Amanda starts walking off.. finally realising she’s 
just got to leave! lol!! Amanda mutters as she leaves: you’ll be the first.
Leaving Lee to follow her, growling at Auggie as he leaves: Get outta here!! grrrrrr!!! 
Sooo funny!!! He really thinks Auggie is slime.. and even more for trying it on with Amanda… offering her a job mudwrestling? and discounted dry cleaning haa haaaa!!!!! 
( Now that is no average housewife to get an offer like that 😉 ) You know, I think Amanda left that place feeling like she needs a shower.. because of all that mud? nah!!! because of the sleazy way Auggie was drooling over her!!
This is a great scene! I love seeing Lee in protective, slightly possessive mode! Interested to see if you ladies think that Lee is acting jealous here? I think it is fabulous to see a man gushing over Amanda ( err ok ok even if he is a total slime like Auggie!!) .. almost worth getting pelted with mud..
I don’t think Lee was jealous..was he? Hmm.. possessive and protective sure. but Auggie was no threat.. if anything he was annoying Lee! I imagine Lee would be thinking he is so cranky because Auggie was annoying.. and men picking up on Amanda and getting in the way of their important work is just annoying!! ( why does she smile and encourage them??!! sooo annoying!! ) tee hee.. when really, I think what is going on is – he doesn’t like seeing men crack on to Amanda. especially men who are unworthy – and Auggie the worm is definitely unworthy!! My understanding of jealousy is that the other person is seen as a rival.. and Auggie is no rival.. (And again here is that same theme from last week with Lee’s displeasure at the the playboy baron.. unworthy!! ) I am certainly glad Lee learns he is good enough for Amanda- eventually!
Wait a minute! Connie in To Catch a mongoose was competition for Lee too!!! wow.. three episodes in a row with men vying for Amanda’s attentions in some way.. 
do you think the writer’s decided to um make Amanda more ‘admired by men’ in the second season???!!!! Do you think Lee was jealous in all three of these episodes? how do you define jealousy? maybe I have too narrow a view of what it means! I’m open to persuasion I thought Connie at the end could have been a rival, and the baron in the beginning could have been a rival.. Hmm.. anyone? 🙂
The scene ends with Auggie drooling as he watches Amanda walk away and we hear Amanda ask Lee off camera: do I have mud on my face? ( I think it is a pun – being offered a gig muuud wreeestling? tee hee.. nooo I think it is Lee here with Mud on his face – because he gets soooo angry with Auggie! too angry IMO! )
I have mixed feelings about Auggie – and his introduction.. soooo what do you all think? Love to hear your take on Lee’s jealousy – especially over the last 3 weeks..

It’s interesting to go back to these earlier episodes and see just how far Lee has come in his attitude and his view of Amanda. I think that Lee very much had Amanda pegged as a certain kind of person in the very beginning and he was very protective of that ideal he had in his head. As he got to know her better he discovered all those wonderful nuances to Amanda. I don’t really see jealousy here in regards to Lee seeing Augie as a rival. But since SAAB he has these impulsive type reactions to men giving Amanda attention. For the most part I think it’s protection, but I think there are shades of jealousy there as well. I wonder how much Lee weighed whether or not to leave Amanda at the mud wrestling pit or have her see him deal with Augie. I guess he went with what he thought was the lesser evil. I guess he figured that any guy there would have been focused on the wrestling so much that they wouldn’t have bothered Amanda.

Hiya! A friend has very kindly sent me a copy of the script for this episode.. hooray! It says it’s a final draft, but then is also labelled on other pages as being revised.. soooo I think it is a revised final draft.
Anyway, a couple of little interesting notes to make about this part of the episode.
Auggie’s muuuud wrestling bar is called ‘Here’s mud in your eye’ – LOL! I think they should have kept it 😉
When Lee gets up to leave Amanda at the table, and go talk to Auggie? He stops a moment and is completely distracted by the muud wrestling.. no sign of that in the episode!
In the script, Amanda clears her throat – Lee realises what he is doing and responds: Oh… sorry. Well, enjoy.

Auggie is described as ‘30, good-looking in a greasy way’ haaaa!
As Lee leaves Auggie and runs into Amanda the scene in the script plays out the same as in the episode.. except there’s a surprising additional line from Amanda here!
Auggie asks Amanda if she’s ever done any wrestling.
Amanda responds: Only in parked cars in high school.
Wha????!!! .. oh my.. to me this doesn’t sound like something Amanda would say at all! Kinda glad they left that line out..
Oh and interestingly, the script explains why Lee tells Amanda they have to leave because they have work to do- as Auggie seems to be holding them up not Amanda. It’s because in the script, Auggie mentions being able to get reduced price dry cleaning and this causes Amanda to turn back to Auggie with great interest! I didn’t see this reaction in the episode we got.. and always wondered why Lee was telling Amanda they need to go like she was holding him up. LOL! That explains it..

Wow, glad they changed some of the things from the script. It seems the script has Amanda being rather cheeky. That seems rather out of character, and Lee was already ready to punch Augie’s lights out. Amanda acting like that would have ticked Lee off more. I never saw Lee as being jealous at all in the scenes with Amanda and Augie, just protective and offended that Augie treated Amanda that way. I think he would have been jealous if Amanda had played along but it doesn’t seem to me to me like Amanda would encourage it when he’s already ticked, she usually tries to calm him when he’s upset I actually like protective Lee who is concerned about Amanda’s honor. Jealousy in this scene would be completely unnecessary.
I am also really glad they left the part out about Lee getting into the mud wrestling. That seems pretty out of character to me too. I know Lee had quite the eye for the ladies early on in the show, but it always seemed to me that when he was in work mode all he really cared about was getting the job done. Even Amanda was an after thought sometimes, But he did seem genuinely concerned about Amanda being uncomfortable being in that place which I thought was very chivalrous. It would have taken away from that if all of sudden he was getting into being there. Just doesn’t fit IMO.
Anyway glad SMK was more often than not able to adapt from the original scripts to be truer to the show. As you point out the differences from the script of a lot of these shows to what actually aired many times it seems SMK adapted to stay more true to character.

I think Lee is just in that over protective mode where he runs interference for her from the slimeballs and undesirables…he doesn’t know he loves her yet, but he does feel like her protector….the good stuff is yet to come…Oh yeah…

The pristine Lee and grubby Amanda reminds me of the infamous food fight scene from The Great Race whereby Tony Curtis as the Great Leslie is immaculate amongst the pies being thrown all around him 😉
Am liking protective Lee 😀 I agree with all the comments, Lee isn’t jealous he just knows what type of man Augie is.

LOL I imagine owning that kind of a business, he would have to know a good dry cleaner, I am sure Amanda isnt the only one who has been “mudded”, so i am sure he has a good dry cleaner on retainer to avoid being sued haha.

I don’t think Lee’s jealous in the sense that he actually thinks Auggie is any kind of competition, but I think he gets vaguely jealous and irritated on general principles when any man at all tries it on with ‘his’ Amanda, even if he won’t admit it. This time it was mostly protectiveness 😀
Auggie is really funny. I wish that a lot of the minor characters had been in the show for the long term and not just a couple of episodes (Auggie, Emily etc)

I didn’t see Lee as commenting on Amanda’s type here, but on Auggie’s type. It nicely reflected Lee’s conviction that Amanda is far above the likes of a worm like Auggie, or any kind of woman that would find such a guy appealing. In a way, Lee “idolizes” Amanda, sets her up on a pedestal, makes her a personal icon of all that is wholesome and beautiful and right. Maybe it’s under his conscious radar, but he certainly has become her self-appointed guardian against all influences corrupt, ugly, and wrong. I think his biggest hangup against pursuing her at this point is his own self-image as a skirt-chasing cad. That, and his lingering reluctance to give up his vice.

I agree with Paula. Lee is definitely saying, “Keep away from Amanda, you are not worth her time.” Not only with his words but also with his actions. Lee is very protective of her.

Oh, Claudia, I’m looking forward to seeing your map of Munich! As for Lee, I agree with you that he doesn’t want to admit Amanda’s appeal for him. I think that at this point in the series, he has flashes of insight–times when he realizes how amazing Amanda is, how much she means to him, and how much they might mean to each other in the future, but he quickly turns away from those confusing ideas and comforts himself with thinking about her as a “type.” It makes his blood boil to have Augie anywhere near her, though!

Amanda’s never the type! We hear that from Lee again in “An affair at Bromfield Hall”. This time , we don’t see Amanda upset because Lee doesn’t consider her “that type” lol.
I don’t see Lee as jealous of Auggie though. He just thinks he’s a Low life!

I agree that Lee isn’t jealous. I think he is still irritated that he has to deal with Auggie. Maybe also irritated that Auggie got some pages from a drop. Why didn’t our superspy know about the drop?

Amanda’s not the type in “Filming Raul,” too. Lee seems to spend a fair bit of time thinking about what type Amanda is. I think that she does mystify him in some ways. She’s so unlike anyone else for him!
As for the jealousy, IMO, he expends a lot of energy in squashing his feelings for Amanda down, but they often find a sideways channel in jealously, whether the other man is someone Amanda might be interested in or not. Lee isn’t rational in this reaction; he just knows that some blasted man is approaching his Amanda, and that brings out a surge of protectiveness and possessiveness in him. I wrote about this once before, but I think that Lee does love Amanda by this point, unconsciously, but his love is basic in the sense that its main elements are a desire to keep her safe from harm and a combative urge to push other men out of her sphere. He wants her all to himself, but he can’t admit that yet.
I see some significant changes in the way he responds when Amanda is interacting with other men in S3, and I still have seven episodes to go in that season, so IMO, Lee’s feelings for her grow in breadth as well as depth over time. I’ll look forward to the posts and responses on those episodes. (Not that S2 isn’t fabulous–it is!)
