Lee and Amanda find their cabin and meet their steward Emiliano.. they are polite..
but I think they just want him to go – a little foreshadowing of a certain little chambermaid in Do you take this spy?? maybe?? I like to think so! Anything that reminds me of that little scenario is good!! [I won’t be specific incase people aren’t up to watching that ep yet!! But hey Redgold! Once you get to the end of season 4? spoilers galore!!
]
The door closed on Emiliano, Lee immediately moves to reassure Amanda, Ahhhh shades of Weekend!
Lee: Uh, Amanda?
Amanda: Yeah?
Lee: Well, I know what you’re thinking, but…
Amanda looks surprised by fast Lee here Kudos to Lee: he tackles this head on! And.. he is excited and proud to do so
Ahhh he is improving!! He is trying!!! This I like to see!
Lee almost runs to the door of the interconnecting room and opens it. With great flare he waves his arms and introduces this great prize to her!
Lee: Voila!…
…adjoining rooms.
Lee looks so very pleased with himself. Proud even! This should make Amanda happy! He’s trying to learn from previous mistakes with Amanda- very good! Amanda smiles momentarily.. but .. she’s not happy! Amanda: Mmm.
There’s silence for a moment between them..
Uh oh.. Lee wasn’t expecting a ‘ Mmmm’ he was expecting a ‘ Wow! thanks Lee that is so great!’
Lee: That’s not what you’re thinking?
Amanda: No, it isn’t. It really isn’t.
Alas.. No Lee..you haven’t learned all your lessons quite yet (but, it is encouraging to see he cares!!! And.. that he is trying!!!)
Amanda: What I was thinking is that you’ve had plenty of time to tell me all of the details about our
assignment…. You could’ve told me in the supermarket, you could’ve told me in the
car on the way to the
airport. You could’ve even told me in the airplane.
[I love how it cuts to Emiliano listening to this entire conversation from out in the hallway – does the Queen Mary really have paper thin walls? It kind of underlines just how very right Amanda is, that Lee should have told her earlier!! oh and Amanda is so cranky.. it seems her engagement ring has momentarily disappeared while she is counting on her fingers there!
]
Lee: All right…
… maybe I should have said something.
Amanda: Maybe you should have said something?!
Lee, on a need-to-know basis, I think maybe this time
I had a need to know.
Lee: Okay, okay, I apologize.
Wow!! I find this all very exciting to watch! Firstly.. Amanda is direct with Lee about her displeasure here – that is growth for Amanda!!! In Weekend? We just got an awkward expression from Amanda! Then.. when Lee admits that he could have told her earlier? Not good enough! Amanda stands up for herself and gets a proper apology out of him! I LOVE THIS!!!! I think this is huge!! And it shows how their relationship has truly begun to grow.. how Amanda has grown.. and Lee listening to Amanda and apologising properly: Growth!!! Hoooray!!! These last few episodes have felt like groundhog day to me.. but this! this is refreshing! but… there’s even more good stuff to come! Amanda: Well, why didn’t you just tell me?
[I love it!!! Amanda asks him a direct question!! ]
Lee: Because I didn’t think you’d agree to come along.
Amanda: Well… [she pauses here.. she can’t think why he wouldn’t tell her!]
….. why not?
Lee: Because I…
…because I know how strongly you feel about
marriage. Look, Amanda, I have two whole
days to wrap up this investigation.
We won’t even get as far as the ceremony, believe me.
Lee gives Amanda a silent look before answering.. he starts to answer but catches himself.. and then – he is straight with her. It’s almost like in that moment Lee decided enough!I can be direct and honest with Amanda! I love that Lee has no line for Amanda here when asked why he didn’t tell her
Ohhh I am loving these two post Brunettes are in!!
At the same time though Lee’s honesty has it’s limits! Love Lee’s plea at the end there ‘ Believe me!!’ errr.. Lee can’t be honest with Amanda where he isn’t being honest with himself the moment the ceremony is mentioned he quickly turns back to salesman Lee – all is fine! 2 days is all I need! All will work out!!! but.. I don’t blame him- he is as much afraid of the looming ceremony as Amanda is and he isn’t willing to even think about the possibility of having to marry Amanda! [ Hmm it’s almost like Amanda is not the only one with ‘strong feelings about Marriage’ huh Lee!
]
I think in previous viewings I was harder on Lee than I am now.. I can see Lee is trying here.. yes, Lee does trick Amanda in to coming by withholding information- but I believe his apology is sincere, and that he is not use to working with a partner whom he needs to treat with equal respect.. This whole partner thing is another learning curve for Lee.. and here he learns he should have been up front with her!
Okay guys.. Do you think Amanda would have been okay with sharing a bed with Lee here?? Do Tell!!
My thinking? [I’m by no means the ‘ resident expert’ as Lee would joke haaaa] This is pure speculation on my part: Amanda seems to have come along way – without Lee realising it- she’s okay with the marriage cover now!
Amanda wasn’t concerned about it, but then Lee didn’t give her a chance to be – I think she would still have not been thrilled with the idea of sharing a bed (she’s crazy!
) but.. she could have done it now if she needed to IMHO. I see Amanda as being much more in control of her response to Lee now than in Weekend. I think she was probably pleased Lee made the effort of getting two rooms- but it was trumped by her unhappiness of being kept in the dark. That is no longer okay with Amanda! She is demanding greater respect!! and I love it!!!
Amanda: Wait a minute.
Lee: What?
Amanda: What if we do?
Lee: ha we won’t!
Amanda: What if we did? What if we had to go through with it and get married…
… so we wouldn’t blow our cover.
I do believe this is the first time Lee has even considered this possibility!! and.. he is terrified!!
Lee: Yeah.
Amanda: Yeah?
Lee: Yeah. Uh…
… look, I’ve got work to do and, uh, I’ve gotta go.
I sure am looking forward to hearing what you all think about this moment!!!!
Lee has no answer for Amanda (or himself!)- other than rushing to the door to get on with solving the case ! LOL! He hasn’t got any time to waste! If he doesn’t solve this in 2 days he has to get married Haaaaa! Now that is a strong motivator right there!
Amanda asks where Lee is going.. and Lee explains to Amanda ..
Lee: All right. They decoded Orlando’s message as “two-four-C.” Well, maybe it’s supposed to mean 24- C. So I’m gonna go check cabin 24-C. Okay?
Oh dear.. Amanda still isn’t wearing her engagement ring you might want to have words with her about that Lee! She must maintain her cover! [While you stand in the open doorway and tell her about the contents of the oohhh so secret coded message ;)]
And.. Lee leaves to check cabin C24! I think they part knowing neither of them want to have to go through with the ceremony!
Watching this episode on my TV last night, I was shocked at how much eye make-up Lee is wearing in this scene! I think he is wearing eyeliner AND eyeshadow toooooo!!! Anyone diggin the pirate look? 😉
I think this is maybe the heaviest make-up in this episode, maybe in the whole show! I’ll get this out of the way and I promise not to bring it up again!! [Or I’ll walk the plank! argghhh]
He wears a lovely shade at his upcoming wedding too- What? You didn’t know they would get married in this ep? Haaa! As if! 🙂
I swear the same make up artist did this ep and Double Agent- ugh!! Or should I say: ARGHH!!!! I guess it’s kind of appropriate.. given he is sailing the high seas to the caribbean!!! Arghhh!!
[I think I’ve been watching too much Horrible Histories! ]
Amanda’s make up is very heavy too –and I guess it has to be to top Lee’s!! and.. it isn’t just Lee who’s got smoky eyes going on! The baddie coming up, [Captain? ;)] Rackem, has it also. Argh!!!!
That will do us for now.. Hope you are all well.. and enjoying the journey! I would love to hear from you! thanks byeeeeee!
I think Lee is accepting that Amanda is fitting into the role of partner these days. We know nothing of his previous partner – do we? All I can recall about him was that he took a bullet in the head for Lee, but we don’t know when. Lee may be struggling with allowing a partner back into his life – although his growing feelings for Amanda are making the thought a little easier!

Ok first Lee is wearing too much make up. I thought that happened a lot the first two seasons. Don’t know why they did that just takes away from his natural gorgeousness. But I digress. What I really want to know is why Lee chose to take Amanda on this case when he knew it would be so ackward. Why not just take Francine? Wether he admits it or not at this point I think he has really come to enjoy spending time with Amanda, but is he letting his personal feelings get in the way of the job? Not sure I approve of that unless Amanda is actually in danger. Maybe Lee just thought Amanda would make the cover more believable as the two of them have become so comfortable with each other. Maybe he really does think of Amanda as his partner now so it goes to say that she would be the one he works with. I am just wondering.

Hey Misty! Enjoyed your wonderings!!!
Very interesting.. why not take Francine? indeed.. what a great question!
Yes I’m thinking Amanda is easy to be with – Francine? Anyone ever thought of her as ‘easy to be with’? Francine and Lee are on the same team, but there is competition between them- which makes Francine not easy. Lee has to be on his guard with Francine..
But already at this point, Lee I think feels he can be more himself with Amanda 🙂
Then you also raise a good point – maybe he does see Amanda as his partner now at work.. and this is what we are seeing here..
When there are a number of ideas I like – I tend to think if they can all be simultaneously correct 🙂 ..then I’ll go with that!
Great to hear from ya Misty- hope you are well!!

Iwsod, I had never even heard of Horrible Histories till now. I can’t believe I missed using them in my classroom for my entire teaching career! Brainfart on my part. They are wonderfully inane and demented so thanks for the heads up! And now I return you to your regularly scheduled programming……

I do feel a tiny bit sorry for Lee. Sure he dropped a clanger by keeping her in the dark, might not agree with his reasons but in his mind he felt he had no choice or she would have said no. He thought he had covered all bases by getting adjoining rooms only to be rebuked. Not a good start to their cruise. Then Amanda drags up the inconvenient truth about the possibility that they might have to get married. Poor Lee, stuck his head in the sand on that one! He looks like such a rabbit in the headlights when the implication dawns on him. I guess he was too worried about getting Amanda on board he never wanted to consider any other possibilities.
I don’t mind his makeup and guyliner so much. If he wants to look like Johnny Depp and mince about like Captain Jack Sparrow I am in favour of that 😉

Rofl! Jenbo thinks the captain sparrow look on the high seas is appropriate! 🙂 tee hee..
way to go standing up for Lee Jenbo!
I agree – Lee looks so crestfallen.. it’s sweet!!! 🙂
But.. he also was naughty.. but this situation is a real mixed bag..
For both characters the audience may feel mixed emotions [yes I’m a ‘tiny bit’ sorry for Lee too 🙂 ]- there’s so much going on here.. it’s really a fantastically written scene when I stop thinking about Lee’s guyliner! 🙂
Hope you are well Jenbo!

I love Lee’s deer-in-the-headlights look at the thought of having to go through with the wedding in two days and how he immediately has to rush off to solve the case! Poor Lee 🙂 The trouble he gets himself into! And this all right after he thought he’d been such a good boy with the room arrangements. This cruise is turning into a nightmare for him, isn’t it?
Hmm, I hadn’t thought about Amanda possibly now being willing to share the bed with Lee. I figured she just was distracted by her annoyance with him, and so she wasn’t about to reward him with a “good boy” pat on the head even if he had done a good thing. I also figured she had no qualms about having him sleep in a chair or a closet, at least not now when she was good and annoyed. She might have felt guilty later.

I find it interesting that the next time this situation comes up he solves it by getting two rooms and she is actually upset. ha. I think Lee just enjoys her company more than Francine, and that’s why he would rather go with her. Plus, he knew Amanda would be excited to go on a cruise and not ask too many questions about what they are doing. He likes to be in charge!

Amanda is so complicated!
No wonder Lee finds her a bit of a riddle 😉 but.. he does enjoy a challenge 🙂

I have always loved this episode and I am surprised how my views have changed when I saw it on DVD . More on that later.
But I do agree, the makeup artist should have been slapped upside the head. Maybe when the box set with extra features (hey- a gal can hope!) is released, they will digitally enhance his makeup off.

Hi Debilyn – I agree! lovely he wants Amanda now 🙂 Not Francine!!! We can see evidence of this.. but it is a subtle change – love it!
Whoa Cindy!! Now I want to hurry to find out which bit you are not happy with!! It will be interesting to see if it is what I think it is 😉
Box set? I like the way you think Cindy!! Let’s send out the vibes to Warners: box set!!! Extras!!! bloopers!!!! Interviews!!! A doco on Kate Jackson the brave trailblazing woman in hollywood 😉 A doco on the Cars of SMK.. the fashions.. the baddies.. Yes please!!! Anyone else have something to add to our wishlist?

I have a less cozy theory on Lee choosing Amanda instead of Francine. Given Billy’s stubborn resistance to allowing even one agent time away to investigate this case, I’m betting he wouldn’t budge on the suggestion of sending two. Once again, Amanda probably was second tier on the roster. However…I do believe Lee enjoys being “stuck” with Amanda by now. I’ll bet Francine was more disappointed about being left behind than Lee was to be leaving her. Practically speaking, it probably would have been less stressful for him to take Francine, knowing she wouldn’t put very much weight behind the implications of going through with a wedding ceremony. Amanda, though… not only will she take the event seriously, but with the sexual tension going on between those two, it just might be hitting a little too close to home for either of them!

Hi Paula! Very interesting ideas!!!! Have you read the script? The script reads much more how you describe it! You may be right!
I decided though, that the episode didn’t play as it did in the final draft because they wanted to leave it open to suggestion.. they wanted to hint that Lee was planning to take Amanda all along.(wishful thinking? maybe! 🙂 )
I also go with my interpretation because I see Lee as privately having accepted Amanda as his partner now.. but- the agency wouldn’t know that..
I also thought Lee would have guessed Billy wouldn’t let two agents go.. [again, maybe wishful thinking! 🙂 ]
You are right- Amanda complicates things in a whole different way doesn’t she 🙂
but then Lee hadn’t thought as far as the wedding: we see that in this scene with Amanda
– I also figured Lee’s wouldn’t be thinking of how their sexual attraction complicates things: because (IMHO only!) he doesn’t admit to himself there is any sexual tension between them yet
– I think Amanda is easy company, and he enjoys spending time with her 🙂
Francine? Combative! Competitive! Critical! Never easy company.. at least that’s my impression 🙂
Lovely to hear your point of view!!! Hope you are well!!!

ISWOD – more of a re-evaluation of wedding scene and consequently the tag (for the better). I always liked the tag, but now it’s probably in my top 5, if not top 3. 😛

Have to get married? Lee’s response here is hilarious. I think he just realized it was really a possibility. He was so worried about getting Amanda to come along that he didn’t fully consider the possibility of the ceremony until just that moment. He definitely is not ready to think about that yet!
I find it lovely that he wanted Amanda to come along, not Francine. Obviously, he enjoys his time with her, and wants to be around her – he just hasn’t realized why yet.
