2/6 Season Four: Episode Fifteen- Bad Timing–Scarecrow & Mrs King

Back to IFF, and it looks like Amanda has quite literally dragged Lee to the Doctor’s!{Lee is with Dr. Kelford. Amanda is standing behind a counter. Dr. Kelford is checking his eyes with an ophthalmoscope.} 4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000354988

Dr. Kelford: Now relax, Scarecrow. We don’t let blood using leeches any more.
{Dr. Kelford laughs. Moves on to the next eye.}
Dr. Kelford: Besides, you hot shot agents got to realize that you get the ouchies just like everybody else.
4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000361695
{Pats his shoulder and sets the ophthalmoscope down.}4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000363396
[the ouchies? I love this guy! Lee totally deserves this haaaa]
Lee:
Oh, come on, Doc. I don’t have any ouchies…4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000364998
…I told Amanda that.
4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000367300
Dr. Kelford: Now, don’t drag her into this…4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000368101
[Lee gets a talking to. Excellent!]
4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000368501 …Mrs. King was following agency procedure when she phoned. 4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000370603
{{SARA: Soon-to-be Mrs. Stetson…wink wink}}
[whooooo nice one Sara. Gosh, if the marriage is ‘secret’ that means they are going to need to continue to use ‘Mrs King’ ugh… I’d prefer she return to Ms West!]
4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000373506
Dr. Kelford: Besides, you ought to be glad that there’s somebody out there in the world who thinks enough of you to drag you down here.
[Literally! Awh. Kudos to Dr Kelford for calling out Lee and his ouchies.. and defending Amanda!]
{Dr. Kelford pats Lee on the shoulder and gets up from his chair.}
Lee:
Doc, I’ve got a very important meeting in approximately forty-
Dr. Kelford:
-Yeah, I know. Melrose phoned. They postponed it for an hour.
{Lee looks over at Amanda.}
Lee: Oh? How’d Billy know?
4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000386619
(Amanda avoids eye contact…
4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000386920
then,) {looks sheepish. Shakes her head. 4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000388021
Kelford chuckles.}
[Her expression is too funny! KJ has the best facial expressions! ]
Dr. Kelford: Hold your arm up there.
{He prepares a needle to draw blood, then sticks him. Lee groans.}
[Most awkward posture for taking blood no?! haaaa I mean his arm is raised?! haaaa]
4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000389622
[I love how Amanda silently watches on with a quiet smile, as super tough Lee is all ouchie over getting his blood drawn. haaa]4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000392726
Dr. Kelford: Well, I’m finished here. You say goodbye. Make the standard donation in the john.
{Dr. Kelford hands him a cup in a sealed bag.}
Dr. Kelford: Meet me next door.
{More arm patting.}
(To Amanda) Thanks again, Mrs. K.
4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000402535
{{SARA: Doctor Arm-patter sure does like Lee.}
Amanda: Thank you, Doc.
4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000404637
{Dr. Kelford leaves. Lee stands up, puts down the cup in the bag, and rolls down his sleeves.}
Lee: Well, are you happy now?
Amanda: I’m happy as long as you’re well.
4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000411344
Lee: Mm-hmm. Well, you don’t know Doc Kelford. I’m going to be in here for hours while he rediscovers the human body. And meanwhile, I have a room full of agents sitting on their thumbs.
{{SARA: Lee, stop being such a crabby pants!}
[Purlease Lee!]
4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000419252
Amanda: When is your meeting over?
Lee: Depends on when I get it started. Why?
Amanda: I thought maybe I would fix you a little dinner to reward you for your heroics down here, huh?
{{SARA: Don’t forget the lollypop, Amanda.}
[Wahahahaha.. yeah seeing a doctor= heroics. Genius Amanda.]
Lee: Really?
Amanda: What do you say? It’s kind of practice for the real thing.
[Practice? Real Thing????!!! Pleeeeeeaaaaase tell me Amanda is not referring to how once they are married she will be cooking for her husband?!]
4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000428361
{{SARA: Both look smitten. Too cute.}
[Amanda plays Lee so well. He totally buys it and quits his complaining]
Lee: Well, I’m a firm believer in practice making perfect.
4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000433867
Amanda: Me too. 4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000434668
{They both lean in for a quick kiss.}
[Mwah! That was a noisy one haaaa]
The scene ends there..
[by the way, one more thing.. I’m quite worried for this Carrie lady that Joe is planning on marrying (revealed in Promises to Keep) – if she becomes ‘Mrs King’ she could be in danger because of mistaken identity no? And.. haaaa her name would be Mrs C.King (seeking) do you think that’s on purpose to go with Joe King (joking)?!
Oh and Amanda is A.King. (aching!!!) flipping hilarious!!!! Err sorry I digress]

On to Amanda’s place. 4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000436169
(Amanda arrives through the back door with a bag of groceries calling out that she’s home.
The boys rush in already arguing and not acknowledging Amanda.)
[Amanda, there’s still a chance to sneak out the back door before they notice!
I tire of the boys’ bickering, and really don’t find it amusing like I use to in earlier times, occasionally! It’s just plain nasty. Kudos to Sara for transcribing this – we thank you for your sacrifice haaaa– ugh!]
Phillip: And while we’re there, I want you to leave me and Nancy alone.
[Nancy! Are you dating Phillip and you didn’t tell us??!!! haaaa] 4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000446513
Jamie: Huh, don’t worry.
{Jamie pauses by the refrigerator, takes the milk out, then joins Phillip near the sink.}
Jamie: That means I’d have to get close to her and I haven’t had all my rabies shots.
[Oh. I’m sure Jamie is not referring to you Nancy. It must be a different Nancy! haa]
Phillip: Do you know why you’re saying that? Cause she called you Zorba the Geek.
4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000449716 [Cough. Yeah Phillip, this Nancy sounds like a real catch. Not.]
Amanda: Fellas, you’re going to have a great time. Can’t you be nice to each other?
[Iwsod is trying really hard to not comment on Amanda’s parenting. Reeeally hard.]
{Amanda starts taking items out of the bag she brought in and sets them on the kitchen island. Dotty enters.}
Dotty: It’s very difficult, they’re brothers.
[set the expectations low – and this is what you get. zipping my mouth. zipped. totally zipped.. ]
4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000457223
(to Phillip and Jamie): Look, you two. You go upstairs and get your stuff. I’m not going to be your Sherpa this time.
Phillip: Alright, come on.
{Jamie and Phillip leave the kitchen and go upstairs. Dotty reaches for a box of rice Amanda set on the counter.}
{{SARA: Why are these boys constantly taking stuff out of the refrigerator and leaving it on the counter?}
4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000465732
[just my guess – but it makes the scene less boring for them to be moving around and doing stuff.]
Dotty: Oh, my, look at this. Wild rice…
{Dotty laughs, then picks up another item.}
Dotty:
Truffles… Ah, and chateaubriand.4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000471938
{She picks it up and looks at it.}
Amanda: Well, yeah, I thought I’d kind of fix myself a special meal and see if there’s a good old movie on television.
4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000475742
[Okay peeps, why is she lying? at this point, why not just say Lee’s coming over for dinner?!]
Dotty: Popcorn used to do just fine. 4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000478745
[and goes well with a good dictionary! haaa]
Amanda:
Well, I decided I’d go for a change. 4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000482048
Dotty: Hmm, yeah, well… I can certainly understand why they serve chateaubriand for two. 4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000486252
Amanda: Yeah, it’s big, isn’t it?
{{SARA: lol…forget it Amanda, your cover’s been blown.}
Dotty:
Mmm… Oh, wine. 4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000491257
{She picks up the bottle and looks it over.} {{SARA: Dotty’s thinking about inviting Capt. Curt over to ‘watch a good ol’ movie’ sometime? }
Amanda:
Yeah. Mother you have a great trip.
{Amanda kisses Dotty on the cheek.}
4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000494561
Dotty: I will, darling.
{Dotty picks up her things and prepares to leave.}
Dotty: And you say hello to Lee Stetson for me. He’s such a charming man.
4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000499065
{Amanda looks sheepish. Dotty grins back at her and leaves.} 4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000501267
[Honestly, what’s the big secret here?! Don’t get me wrong, I find these ‘Dotty knows even if Amanda isn’t telling’ scenes charming, but it honestly doesn’t make sense at this point. At least not to me. I wonder if any of you guys think this says something about episode order for season 4? I’ve not participated in any of those discussions yet sorry as I’m blank on what is ahead for the rest of the season, but I would like to come back to this. Eventually!!]

Back to the agency. {Lee enters the bullpen.}
Billy:
Scarecrow… You feeling alright?
Lee: Yes, I’m feeling alright. How’d you hear?
Billy: Amanda told me.
Lee: Ah, that figures.
4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000517984
{{SARA: He already knows she did, why is he asking?}
[So true, he knows Amanda called, and he knows that ‘Melrose’ knows! I think the script editing was being done by a work experience kiddy that week. ahem.
Then again, maybe Lee’s concentration and memory are starting to be impacted by PD2 haaaaa..]
Billy: Well, she knew you wouldn’t mention it. She also told me that she made an appointment with Dr. Kelford. What did he say?
Lee: Not much. He prodded a little, he poked a little, grunted a little. He took some blood and says I’m going to be fine.
Billy: You sure?
Lee: Yes, I’m sure. [No need to wait for blood test results!! Lee’s sure! lol] I’m fine, okay? Now, I’ve got a meeting to get to. Thanks for covering me.
{Lee starts to leave and Billy follows.}
Billy: Amanda was in my office at 7:00 this morning.
{Lee turns back.}
4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000537303
Lee: Oh, Billy. You know the way she is.
Billy: She was worried about you. Yeah, I’m beginning to get the drift.
4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000544144
{Lee chuckles and Billy is grinning. Lee steps away and enters the meeting room.}
[I figure this is Billy saying – I notice things are serious between you two.. but. I gotta say – Amanda has always been like this when it comes to Lee!]

We move on to Amanda’s that night..
4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000548548
[Lee parks out front these days huh.
Way to go keeping things secret but not keeping it secret. Am I bitter about this? yes I am!]
{We find Lee looking at a bottle in his hands.}
Lee:
Amanda, this is a fabulous Beaujolais.
Amanda: I’m glad you like it.
[Oh my. love this call back to Remembrance of things past! Back then Lee offered to get a Beaujolais from her cellar as it goes great with hamburgers! Now? Amanda actually provides the Beaujolais, and something more eeerrrr refined (?) than hamburgers! Oh how far she has come!]
{Amanda is tending to dinner. Lee twists the cork and opens the bottle to pour the glasses.}
4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000554154
Lee: Someone once said that a good relationship is like a fine bottle of wine…
4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000560960
(Lee checks out Amanda hooo haaaa)4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000561561
…The older it gets, the better it is. 4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000562162
Amanda: Now, that’s very wise. Who said that?
Lee: Me.
4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000567067
[Smooooooth. Unlike that sweater – which screams the 80s!]
{She smiles back at him.}
4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000567667
Lee: It was just a theory, though.
Amanda:
Oh.
{Lee leans in and kisses her on the cheek.}
4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000570270 Lee: Until now.
[Curse whoever decided on this camera angle and a kiss combined!!]
{Doorbell rings.}
Amanda:
Huh?
{Lee and Amanda exchange a glance. She goes to answer it.
Lee looks at the glass, then takes a sip of the wine.}
Lee (calls out to Amanda in the next room): Ooh, Amanda, this wine is to die for!
4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000584384
{{SARA: Not funny, Lee.}
[Oh come on writers! You’re killing me with all this angst/irony!!]
{Amanda returns to the kitchen with Billy.}
(The mood is subdued and sombre)
Billy: Sorry to bother you, Lee, but when I didn’t find you at home, I… We have to talk…Alone.
4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000601201
Lee: Well, is it business?
Billy: No.
Lee:
Well, then…
(Lee moves over and to stand beside Amanda.
Billy seems to take in the wine, and that they were probably having an enjoyable evening together.. that he’s about to really interrupt!
4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000605605
They both face Billy.)
Lee:
Amanda doesn’t have to leave, right?
Billy: Dr. Kelford phoned in the results of your blood tests. They’re not good.
4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000610010
{Amanda peers over at Lee, then back at Billy.} 4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000610610
Lee: Meaning? 4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000613413
Billy: You’re carrying something called PD-2. A bacteria. The chemical warfare people think it’s Russian.
[I’m not an expert but this seems super fast to get a bacteria identified isn’t it?! Given how fast it acts that’s probably lucky for Lee!]
4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000620720
Lee: Well, cut to the chase. What’s the damage estimate?
Billy: Death is certain within 72 hours…
4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000626726
[Billy does not sugar coat this! Holy cow.. Whhhaaaaaa???? ]
…And we don’t have the antidote.
4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000628728
Shock.. 4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000629629
Disbelief.. 4.15 Bad Timing.avi_000631231The scene ends here.
[Nice touch that it fades right here to a commercial break! Lee’s life is fading away too.. but good to know if they had an antidote that it could work.
Not really following the whole antidote vs a bacteria lol.
Wouldn’t that be more of an antibiotic? Whatev. What do you know about fictional russian biological warfare anyway Iwsod.

It’s a good thing you can’t seem me. I think I’m gonna ugly cry!

The performances here from BB and KJ are totally heartbreaking. I guess I should buckle up because this is gonna be a really bumpy ride. I might go grab myself a nice Beaujolais to drink for what’s ahead! Who’s with me!??
I bet Jule will join me- right Jule???

Okay well, let’s stop here, consume some booze and pick up where we left off in a week. tee hee…

  1. Oh dear iswod, I see my reputation is firmly intact 😁. Fine, you grab the wine I’ll grab the chocolate and I’ll meet you all down in the gutter!
    While I’ve been trying to ignore extreme stupidity of the secret marriage plot line, I’m thoroughly enjoying little bit & pieces that pop up, ie Lee acting like he’s six and Amanda just rolling right over him. Besides, I’ve rewritten most of season four in my mind since I originally saw it in the 80s, except for the good moments of course.
    Congratulations Nancy on your cradle robbing marriage to Philip 😂. Good luck! Actually I find the whole discussion even funnier because I’m really named Nancy too.

  2. Just looked at those photos you took of Lee and Amanda in that last scene again and you’re offically killing me here.

    This ep turns me into a basket case every time.

    I wonder what it’s like for the actors to film storylines like this. When I think of how intensely something affects us just watching it and they’re essentially having to live it as they act it out. I wonder if it’s hard to shake off that night or if you ever dream about what you just filmed.

    I know SMK doesn’t get really bad but this ep and Night Crawler are kind of heavy. Not to mention the individual scenes where they’re fighting for their lives or having some lunatic jump out at you. (Rememberance Of Things Past anyone?)

  3. I wish Amanda was wearing her engagement ring during their date night at her home!

    Doesn’t Lee keep her engagement ring at his apartment? I suspect he had other things on his mind and simply forgot to bring it.

    • Sorry, the reply thingy didn’t work. This is in reply to peacockdancer, below.

    • I never really thought where she kept her engagement ring. I think Lee may have been thinking about, “practice for the real thing”.

      Liked by 1 person

    • I’ve read that in a lot of fanfics, but did they ever establish on the show that Lee keeps Amanda’s ring at his apartment? I can’t remember. I do recall several time where they are alone together in his apartment and she is NOT wearing the ring. If it were me, I would want to wear it whenever I could and I would want to keep it close to me the rest of the time! But maybe Amanda is more of a “save it for special occasions” person.

      • I don’t recall them ever mentioning her ring. The only time I really noticed it was in this episode, at the restaurant. And of course, when he first gave it to her.

        • Same! I don’t think it’s explained, and this is a totally new theory to me to hear – which leads me to guess it’s a fan fiction thing since I consciously choose not to read SMK fan fic at this point in my love of smk…

            • Nothing against fan fics here, I think they are awesome!
              So why did I choose not to read smk fan fiction? Funnily enough this discussion about Amanda’s ring illustrates why I made the choice not to read it (for now) – something in a story can gets into your brain, and become incorporated into your smk story over the years. This is how minds work. So writing the blog, I chose to limit myself to the episodes and save myself the confusion.
              Maybe one day I’ll get to smk fan fic. They are awesome and I’m in huge awe of fan fic writers. FYI this is a fan fic thread over at Nedlindger’s for people who wish to discuss stories etc.
              If anyone is wishing to discuss fan fics further – please head over to this thread to continue this discussion. https://nedlindgers.proboards.com/thread/41/fan-fiction?page=22

          • My thinking had nothing to do with fanfiction, it’s just deductive reasoning. If Amanda kept her ring at home, there’s a major risk that Dotty would find it.

            • Or the boys when they’re searching for birthday/Christmas presents! (Just rewatched Fearless Dotty!)

              It still blows my mind that kids do that. I never would have thought of disobeying and looking at my gifts ahead of time. Talk about a way to ruin your Birthday!

            • A ring is so small, though. Easy to tuck away in a little velvet bag and put in the back of a jewelry box — one that could be locked up, for that matter. I know that Dotty takes a lot of interest in Amanda’s personal life, but the idea that she — or the boys — would go into Amanda’s bedroom and rifle through her personal things to find something small and hidden doesn’t seem in character, to me. It would be an outrageous invasion of privacy.

              Like

              • I would have to agree with that! As meddlesome her mother is, I don’t see her going into Amanda’s room and looking through her belongings, especially something as small as a ring.

                Like

              • I agree Dotty wouldn’t for that reason, but I’m not sure about the boys, just because of the gift thing they mention on Fearless Dotty. I can see Phillip thinking his mom wouldn’t expect her to look so it would be the perfect spot and check her dresser drawers. That’s where Laura Ingalls Wilder found a gift once by accident. And the more you go for a “hiding” place, the more likely it is to be a place that’s searched. Amanda coukd just out it in her jewelry box but then it would be easy to see by accident if Amanda’s getting ready for a fancy occasion and Dotty were to come in.

                • I just wish Amanda wore her ring more (especially when she’s at Lee’s apartment, but that’s not this scene). Purely for romantic reasons, I prefer to think of her keeping it at her home in a safe hiding place. I imagine she must feel terrible keeping this huge secret from everyone. Being able to look at her ring in private when she has a moment alone could help her feel closer to Lee and make it all seem more “real.” That’s how I like to think about it, anyway.

                  I love how we can all get down into these nitty-gritty little details that, in the scheme of things, are not really important! LOL. Love you guys.

  4. I am also bemused that Amanda won’t admit to her own mother that she is making dinner for Lee. More than that, actually — she goes that extra step and lies to her, saying she is making dinner for herself. Amanda in the early seasons felt so bad and conflicted about lying to her mother, and now the lies just roll off her tongue naturally, and not even for a good reason! This is a man, after all, who spent Christmas with Amanda’s family. Dotty herself refers to Lee as Amanda’s “boyfriend.” I get it, the writers are just trying to keep some kind of mystery element alive, but this is just silly.

    The one good thing about the secret relationship is that emphasizes how very important Lee and Amanda are too each other — how the ONLY people in the entire world with whom they are 100 percent honest is with each other. There is something powerful in that. Imagine if the worst had happened at the end of this episode — no one would truly understand the extent of Amanda’s loss and grief.

    I wish Amanda was wearing her engagement ring during their date night at her home! She wore it at the restaurant, after all, and really, there is probably more chance of running into someone they know at a restaurant than there is at Amanda’s house, while her family is out of town.

    I also think it is funny that, given all the secrecy and lies, Lee has no problem calling out “this wine is to die for!” while Amanda is talking to some unknown person at her front door!

      Preach it Peacockdancer!!!! Bemused is an awesome description!
      I think it doesn’t sit right with me because it’s not consistent with Amanda’s character. We should at least see her struggling with it, or regretting it. but.. Nope!

      • Trying to remember the last time we saw Amanda seem to struggle with lying and I can’t recall anything after Das Geisterschloss. I could be wrong but I’m wondering if the whole attempt at telling the truth on Playing Possum basically did her in and left her realizing “Apparently she’s never going to believe the truth so might as well just stick with lying for both our sanity!”

        Plus I can see wanting to fib about her romantic relationship because of how much Dotty pushed with Dean. Heck — I’d probably lie about my romantic relationships too if she was my mother, and I’m not a spy! (Sprry, Lee — an intelligence operative!)

        Like

        • That’s why I think Amanda didn’t want to tell her mother the truth about fixing dinner for Lee, the way she pushed Dean on Amanda was too much. Dottie liked Dean and would have loved for them to get married. Lee on the other hand, isn’t anything like Dean. Amanda probably felt she would have projected her feelings about Lee on to her as well, and knowing the difference between the two, her opinion about Lee may not have been as highly favorable as they were about Dean.

          Her mother was very meddlesome.

  6. About Amanda’s decision not to mention Lee coming over… I wonder if she doesn’t want Dotty to assume things are as serious as they are? Dotty dates different guys, maybe because she doesn’t want to get serious with one. So by throwing Dotty off or making her think she doesn’t see Lee exclusively, then Dotty won’t catch on that they’re getting ready to tie the knot? Or maybe she won’t be like other moms are and ask ‘when’ they’ll be getting married? (Sorry, that’s all I got as a theory, and it’s not that great).

  7. There’s a phenomenon in older series especially that I call the “Who’s gonna get shot” scene. Where you just KNOW something is going to go wrong with a main character. Sometimes it’s a line “What’s the worst that could happen?” Or there’s this special kind of smile they give when they leave the room. But Lee or I guess Bruce (because he knows, lee doesn’t) has the body language down perfectly. I could have turned on my TV just as Lee comes into the bullpen and talks to Billy with no prior knowledge of the series, characters, or episode storyline and I’d immediately be thinking “Oh no. He’s in trouble.” That scene just rips my heart out every time — just something about Lee’s voice and body language.

    And at Amanda’s house. When they exchange looks! It’s so heartbreaking!

    On a lighter note, I really like the style of sweater on Lee. I’d prefer a different pattern but I can overlook that.

    And I love the scene with the doctor. Lee’s fear of all things medical is really endearing. (He has the little groan when Francine injects him with the Zap gas antidote on Night Crawler) And the flirting is so sweet.

    But Dr. Kelford is way too condescending. “Ouchies?” Lee isn’t six — he’s 36 for pity’s sake!

    I both love and hate this ep. I love the story and everything but at the same time it’s so hard to watch!

  8. I think it’s cute how Amanda looks out for Lee by having him see the doctor, and staying with him while Doc draws blood. So what was a bit off to me was, back at the agency when Billy asks Lee how did it go with the doctor, then he tells Lee, Amanda was there at 7:00 this morning. When Lee tells Billy, you know how she gets, Billy looks a bit puzzled, telling Lee he gets the picture now. For starters, Billy looks a bity surprised, like he just figured they had something going on. Dah! he already knew, he had said early on he was fine with their relationship.

    Now, as far as the scene at Amanda’s, they’re both in the kitchen while Amanda is cutting up the food for dinner, i guess that’s practice for the real thing. Although, considering they’re marriage will be secret, not sure how they’re going to do the real thing. A secret marriage, no one will no. So does that mean she won’t be spending the night at Lee’s? Confusing to me.

    Lastly, when Billy goes over to Amanda and tells Lee he has to talk with him alone. Okay, it was Amanda was the one who took Lee by the doctor, why did he feel the need not to let Amanda in on the results? That scene really confused me. Lee is over Amanda’s, she’s cooking dinner for him, Billy already knows they’re together. So again, why the need for him to tell Lee without Amanda. I’m sorry, but Billy made me a bit upset by not wanting to include Amanda with the results of the bloodwork. Really? That scene was just as confusing as the restaurant scene. Obviously, the writers forgot earlier episodes.

    • Yep! super duper confusing!! I wonder if the episode order being changed might explain this somewhat?

      I haven’t gone back to look if this explains it.. I’m leaving that project till I’ve finished writing up the walk! Anyone else have insights on this?

      Great to hear your thoughts neckieh!

    • I think in this case, Lee just means “You know how overprotective she can be” and Billy’s getting the picture means both that he’s understanding how much Amanda cares about Lee’s safety and thinking “And you secretly love that about her”. Because he saw how Amanda acted when Lee was hurt on Eyes Have It.

      And I don’t know that her reaction woild necessarily be an automatic reaction of every girlfriend in their line of work. I don’t see Francine for example automatically going to Billy’s office at 7AM after finding Lee being mygged, even if she and Lee were engaged. I think she’d have driven him home and patched him up with an icepack, but not necessarily been as alarmed because she knows the job and knows Lee has a knack for getting beaten up unfortunately.

    • I love that Billy knew to go to Amanda’s house when Lee wasn’t at his own home. The fact that Billy initially asked to speak to Lee “alone” doesn’t surprise or bother me. This is Lee’s personal medical information and Billy is his supervisor — I don’t think it would be appropriate for him to include Amanda in the initial reveal of the test results without Lee’s permission.

      Moreover, while Billy knows they are romantically involved, he still doesn’t know the exact nature of their relationship. He may have his own theory but he doesn’t know anything for certain. I’m sure “secretly engaged, soon to be secretly married” is too stupid to have even crossed his mind, but I digress!
      And regardless, from all he knows about Lee, it is reasonable for Billy to think that he would want to be told this terrible news privately in the first instance, so that he has a chance to absorb it before telling Amanda. Lee has always seemed like a very private person to me. I actually find it rather remarkable that Lee did ask Billy to say whatever he had to say in front of Amanda, knowing that it was obviously something very bad. It shows how much he has changed and come to rely on her as his partner in all aspects of his life.
