Walk 2-10/10 The First Time 1.01-Scarecrow and Mrs King

Ready to finish up walking through The First Time? [Me Neither!]
Having just found out the leak is drugged Francine getting her cooking lessons, a helicopter arrives outside, and Lee is seen being lead toward it with Mrs Welch and another baddie.
1.01 TFT.avi_002402502

We see Amanda sneak out of the cellar1.01 TFT.avi_002412045

noticing a bag of sugar and coming up with another plan. 1.01 TFT.avi_002418518Go Amanda!!!

(Lee is lead to the side of the helicopter. Mrs Welch sees the helicopter is loaded with boxes in the back.. )
Mrs. Welch (to agent): Get these pile boxes into the cellar! (to Lee:) Good-bye, Mr. Stetson.1.01 TFT.avi_002424891
(The two agents carry boxes to the cellar. Amanda pops up from behind their car…
1.01 TFT.avi_002443743
Lee of course doesn’t expect to see her at all ever again but there she is!!!
1.01 TFT.avi_002444044

(And his reaction clues the one remaining baddie into something being there. He turns to look but doesn’t see her. 1.01 TFT.avi_002446513

Still looking quite stunned, Lee goes along with being put in the helicopter while watching Amanda behind the baddie in amazement.) 1.01 TFT.avi_002455088
[I kind of wonder if Lee thinks he is hallucinating there for a moment about that completely confusing woman in his final moments.. ] 1.01 TFT.avi_002456890

(At the helicopter, Amanda tiptoes behind the agent. Then she holds her fingers up like a gun.)1.01 TFT.avi_002457791
Amanda: Freeze!
(The man turns. When he sees Amanda does not have a gun, he turns back to Lee, who kicks him. 1.01 TFT.avi_002459659The baddie falls. Amanda rushes over.)
That is what you say, isn’t it?  “Freeze!”?1.01 TFT.avi_002464664
[Love the hand on his leg Winking smile ]
Lee: Yeah, usually when you’re armed! Untie me!
1.01 TFT.avi_002469169
(He twists so that Amanda can reach the ropes. She looks at the knot.)
Amanda: Oh, Lord! The Killick hitch!1.01 TFT.avi_002470937
[I thought the Killick Hitch was supposed to be super easy to undo if it was done right. Is Amanda a pro t identifying a poor attempt at the Killick Hitch? Maybe that’s it. I think I have previously thought oh yeah this is a knot we know for sure Amanda can’t undo! and I forgot the bit about how she hadn’t done it right rofl.]
(Lee looks over and sees the other agents coming.)
Lee: Oh, boy. Come on, come on, get in, get in! 1.01 TFT.avi_002477510
(Amanda looks at the agents.) Come on!
(Amanda runs over to the other side of the helicopter. She gets in the driver’s seat and Lee gives her instructions.)
…Feet on the pedals! Right hand on the stick! Left hand down on the throttle!1.01 TFT.avi_002490390
Amanda: Why?1.01 TFT.avi_002492459
Lee: We’re flying! 1.01 TFT.avi_002493660
Whoa. 1.01 TFT.avi_002493960

(The baddie Lee saw starts shooting at them as he runs toward them. 1.01 TFT.avi_002495161Amanda starts the helicopter. It flies up kind of wobbly and shakily.)
…Here, I’ll do the pedal… 1.01 TFT.avi_002502469……More throttle! More stick! Let’s get this thing up!
(It goes up, wobbling like it’s drunk. More agents come out of the cellar and start shooting at the helicopter. Mrs. Welch runs out of her house. The agents run to their car.)
Amanda: Look out!
(Lee shouts some more instructions to her.)
Lee: Look out!
(Lots of shots of the helicopter flying wildly..)
Amanda: I hate this!
(The agents are in their car, but it doesn’t start.)
Lee: Why are we going back to the house? [Why are you thinking Amanda has any control over what direction that thing flies?!]
Mrs. Welch (in the car): It’s not starting!… 1.01 TFT.avi_002542842
(They get out of the car and shoot their guns again. Mrs Welch firing is hilarious..)
…There’s another car! Take it!
(They run to Amanda’s car.)
Lee: Pedal!
Amanda: Pedal!
Lee: No, not that pedal!
Amanda: Which pedal?
[There’s more than one? Does anyone reading this know how to fly a helicopter?!]
(Lee looks down at the agents running on the lawn.)
Lee: It’s lucky their car coughed out.
Amanda: Lucky nothing! I put sugar in the gas tank! Phillip did it once to Dean’s car, it’s never been the saaaaaaame!
[I’m chuffed to hear Philip did this – and ties in nicely with a future Lee/ Philip moment over Lee’s precious car.
Also, don’t underestimate Amanda Lee!!! Smile ]
(They scream as the helicopter does loop-de-loops. Lee falls against Amanda.)
…Golly, I’m sorry!
(The agents zip along after them in Amanda’s car.)
…How am I doing?1.01 TFT.avi_002575141
Lee (with his eyes closed tight): You’re doing just fine!1.01 TFT.avi_002575742
(Amanda looks at Lee.)
Amanda: Open your eyes!!!!!!!1.01 TFT.avi_002578478
(Lee opens them and screams. In the car, Mrs. Welch spots them.)1.01 TFT.avi_002579612
[Aie. This is an awesome gag!!!! But the screaming makes me want to fast forward I think as far as action sequences go this one isn’t a fave of mine… What are your thoughts on this action sequence?]
Mrs. Welch: There they are!
(She leans out of the window and fires a gun at them. The helicopter changes directions and soars over the car.)1.01 TFT.avi_002589389
[Mrs Welch packing heat? that’s hilarious.]
Lee: Look out! Pedal! No, not that pedal!
Amanda: I don’t know which pedal!1.01 TFT.avi_002602035
[I thought Lee was doing the pedal? Amanda has enough to do lol]
Lee (suddenly not sounding panicked): What are you wearing?1.01 TFT.avi_002604437
[Hold on a minute, don’t worry about the baddies chasing us and shooting at us. What are you wearing??!!!!! this delivery is gold!!!]
Amanda: What do you care?1.01 TFT.avi_002605839
[This exchange makes this far too long action sequence worth watching alone in my book!]
So now that joke is done. Let’s cut to the helicopter chase shall we?
1.01 TFT.avi_002610443
The helicopter continues to wobble around looking like it’s about to fall out of the sky, changing directions, as the baddies are in pursuit in Amanda’s car. Lee yells ‘Throttle’ a lot.. and I don’t really care enough to follow.. somehow the baddies drive Amanda’s car into a ditch and crash. Chase over.)

Amanda: We got ’em! We got ’em!1.01 TFT.avi_002650450
(we get a view of Amanda’s wrecked car.. Hang on a minute..)
1.01 TFT.avi_002655455
Lee: Gee, I’m sorry about your car.
[Lee understands how people get attached to their cars Winking smile ]
Amanda: My car? Oh, what am I going to do?1.01 TFT.avi_002658358
Lee (shakily): Land? Oh, Lord.

(King kitchen. Dotty is cutting vegetables, ready to watch “Colonial Cookery.” The TV is on.)1.01 TFT.avi_002663596
(The sign behind Dotty reads: MOM- Dean called. He will be on time)
[Who calls to say they will be on time? I’m surprised he didn’t leave a message saying there is a 2% chance he will be late. What a dingbat!]
Announcer:
Television’s Colonial Cooking lady is in custody …

(Amanda comes rushing into the kitchen.)
Amanda: Hi, hi. I’m home.
(The boys in their PJs watch Amanda rush around..)
We can hear on the tv in the background: … as part of a suspected espionage ring. Apparently the group was running out of the Tv Personality from Virginia’s estate the same ???? by the way as John Hancock …

blah blah I can’t make out the rest – anyone? is it in the script?
(Amanda goes over to the refrigerator and removes a chicken already on the oven rack. She places it in the oven and sets the timer. She runs back and forth, grabbing things and putting them on the table, including a vase of flowers from the cupboard. 1.01 TFT.avi_002677844[Speaking of production errors recently – you can see the kitchen and family room have no ceiling when Amanda puts the flowers down on the table. At least it looks that way to me. lol. 1.01 TFT.avi_002686186

It’s hard to get a shot of. ]
Dotty, Phillip, and Jamie are standing there, watching. 1.01 TFT.avi_002693993Amanda lights two candles and blows out the match.
We hear the front door bell, then Dean calls out..  having let himself in we hear his voice only)
Dean: Honey, it’s Dean. So, how was your day?

[Is he still around? I was hoping he’d be gone by now!]
(Amanda smiles puts on her mask and a quiet smile as Dean enters unseen by us.. ) 1.01 TFT.avi_002704771

The scene feels like a tag.. but then. no the episode isn’t over yet!
(On to the agency, and we get another exterior shot of the agency.. 1.01 TFT.avi_002710443

Tag 2 is in Billy’s office. Amanda is explaining to Billy..
While judgy Francine listens and Lee paces. [I’m guessing he doesn’t want Amanda talking to his boss or Francine. She’s not supposed to be here, or rescue him. She’s supposed to be the case. and back home in suburbia.]
Amanda: Anyway, I couldn’t get it out of my mind, I thought, Duck a la Nathan Hale, and Valley  Forge Flapjacks, and all the recipes that Francine gave–well, what I did was I put sugar in her gas tank, because I knew that when I saw the helicopter, that was the only way we were ever going to get out of there, alive, I mean, those men had guns, they had guns,…1.01 TFT.avi_002723423
[We see Billy listening with a stunned smile talking it all in lol. Love the cardy Billy!
I think we don’t know for sure, but I’m guessing this is the first time Amanda has directly spoken with Billy – we didn’t see her and Billy meet earlier they were in different rooms… just my take though! His demeanour here has a this Amanda is novel and new kind of vibe to me..] 1.01 TFT.avi_002725125

…so, um, I ran up to the helicopter and I yelled “Freeze!” but I didn’t have a gun, but Mr. Stetson kicked the man and the man fell down, (Amanda points to Lee) 1.01 TFT.avi_002728962(We cut to Lee pacing and looking kinda nervous?? Like he wishes the ground would swallow him up) 1.01 TFT.avi_002733233
… and he–I ran over to untie him, but I couldn’t untie him because he was tied with a Killick hitch, and who can undo the Killick hitch? So I ran around to the other side of the helicopter and I got in, and we went up!1.01 TFT.avi_002737771
[Amandaramble #1!]
Billy: But had you ever flown a whirlybird before?1.01 TFT.avi_002739472
Amanda: No, but it was just like my dishwasher, you give it a good kick and it will go just fine!1.01 TFT.avi_002742142
[Lee’s hands suddenly become more animated and he wants to move things along and get Amanda out of there IMHO] 1.01 TFT.avi_002742542
Lee: Uh, we gotta go, Billy.
(Lee smiling nervously walks over and grabs Amanda’s hand guiding her to stand up and leave with him. But Billy pauses her. Francine is gaping just taking this all in. You just know she is gathering material to tease Lee with!)1.01 TFT.avi_002747080
Billy: Uh, if there’s a need, I trust we can count on your help upon occasion.
Lee: What?1.01 TFT.avi_002747981
Billy: Well, Lee, we do use civilians from time to time. 1.01 TFT.avi_002752352...She’s anonymous, idealistic, responsible,…
[she’s right there Billy!]1.01 TFT.avi_002754320

and besides, maybe having her around will help you to be more careful.1.01 TFT.avi_002758091
(Lee is unimpressed! 1.01 TFT.avi_002758692
Huh. 1.01 TFT.avi_002759059

Amanda has a quiet smile hearing this, 1.01 TFT.avi_002759325and enjoying, but then – it’s time for business. Amanda gets assertive!) [Go Amanda!]
Amanda: Does this job pay anything? I mean, I have been looking for work.1.01 TFT.avi_002760360
Lee: Say good-bye, Amanda.1.01 TFT.avi_002763296
Amanda: Good-bye,1.01 TFT.avi_002763897 good-bye.1.01 TFT.avi_002764497
(Francine gives Amanda a little wave)
[Claudia referred to it as a ‘snooty wave’ in her transcript. haaa that’s gold!!] 1.01 TFT.avi_002765665
[I do wish there had been some kind of reference to how it had been Francine being drugged, and how Amanda saved all their butts!!! but.. I guess this sets up what is ahead, lots of minimising of Amanda’s contributions by Lee and Francine, while Billy is her initial champion. Okay. I can go with that, but a ‘Bye Francine glad the drugs have warn off’ on the way out would have been delightful to hear rofl.] 1.01 TFT.avi_002766066
Billy: Scarecrow… (Lee, following Amanda out of the room, turns to face Billy, Amanda having left the room.) 1.01 TFT.avi_002768134I think we’ve finally found you a partner.1.01 TFT.avi_002770637
[Billy looks like he finds this pretty amusing! While Lee responds with a look like daggers!!]1.01 TFT.avi_002771204
Lee: Knock it off, Billy.1.01 TFT.avi_002772405
Francine: Oh, you two are darling together…1.01 TFT.avi_002773973 …I understand she knits or something.1.01 TFT.avi_002775375
[Booo Francine, not flying the equality flag here! boooo.]
Lee:
I’d button it, Loose Lips.1.01 TFT.avi_002779479

[Is ‘Loose lips’ a reference to Francine’s blabbing while drugged? Hmm I’ll take it! ]
(Lee leaves closing the door and we’re left with a shot of Francine reacting – oh really???!!! And looking just as smug as ever.)
1.01 TFT.avi_002781681
The scene ends there..

So, for our 3rd tag – we find Lee and Amanda walking outside..
1.01 TFT.avi_002790423

Looks like a historic part of DC – anyone care to explain this location? Please? Smile
Amanda: So, if I work here, does that mean that I work with you? I mean, that’s what you do, isn’t it? You have partners? But you know, I might need some special training. I’m not sure I have the right skills. I mean, I type, I don’t shoot, you know? But I do love this area. Oh, I’m crazy about it…
1.01 TFT.avi_002795729
…All the fresh vegetables come in here, and besides that, the boys’ dentist is right around the block, 1.01 TFT.avi_002802402so what I could do is, I could drop them off at the dentist, then I could go into spy headquarters, and then I could pick up a fresh melon all at the same time. 1.01 TFT.avi_002803870Do you have a good vegetable man?1.01 TFT.avi_002806439
[Amandaramble #2!]
Finally, Amanda pauses for breath and waits for Lee to say something. He stops. 1.01 TFT.avi_002808108
Looking a bit shell shocked he turns to look silently at Amanda…
And the episode ends there. This ending definitely has a this is the start of a beautiful relationship kind of vibe.. Smile

What kind of relationship?? hmmm!!! Winking smile

I’m thinking Lee is trying to take it all in and struggling to keep up. How exactly did I end up here? having to listen to her talk about kids, dentists and vegetable men?? me? possibly work with her?? How is this my life?! Gah!!!!!!

LOL what do you think is going through Lee’s mind here as the episode ends?

I think Amanda is in the whole – I can do everything! I can make it work! I like to think she is full of energy here because she’s excited about what she has accomplished and hopeful that she can maybe make this fascinating work at the agency job offer thing happen. Thoughts?

Gosh all – do tell me what you think too please? don’t have to agree with me share your own take if you like!! Smile

Overall, I think to Amanda, Lee is exciting and opening up a whole new world to her – full of possibilities. Dean is a well worn path, and she can pretty much guess what that future is going to look like there..and it looks boring and unfulfilling.. So far Amanda seems to be going along with that, but through Lee – she’s branching out and exploring her life looking different than the boring suburban mom and wife thing [‘housewife’] . While being a mother is important to her, she’s trying to accommodate a career.. and maybe wants to find a different way to do motherhood.. Go Amanda!!!

I think Amanda is extremely resourceful and brave.. I can see why this would be intriguing to Lee even if he doesn’t have a clue at this point what to do with it. I think throughout this episode Amanda constantly takes Lee by surprise – he thought the suburban mom would be predictable and easy to play… what he found was a resourceful, brave woman who actually showed care for him and went out of her way to help him. I think he’s super thrown off balance by Amanda and he finds it simultaneously confusing and addictive.  Not what he expected at all!! Amanda is no push over, and was a huge help to him.

So begins a journey of change and self-discovery for them both!

  1. #re-watch2025

The grand finale in the pilot episode. Only 7:30 minutes left to go.

Lee doesn’t look very happy as he’s led to the helicopter. He knows that unless a miracle happens, he’s going to die. Not a pretty prospect. No one knows where he is, and he’s tied up. I am sure he was trying to hatch an escape plan in the basement, but with the Whirlybird, things are looking very bad for him. At this point, we do not know how old Lee is. Nevertheless, he is still a young man in his prime. Not a nice time to die, is it?

However, Lee, miracles do happen. His reaction is absolute disbelief and disbelief. He can hardly believe his eyes. Amanda? The little suburban housewife with two kids and a station wagon is right here? OMG. Is he hallucinating after the blow to the head? No, not a hallucination. Amanda is actually there and manages to distract the baddie so Lee can kick him unconscious.

    Lee: Untie me!
Amanda: Oh, noo! The Killick hitch!”

I laughed so hard. The baddies can’t do it properly any more than Amanda can. And to make matters worse, another of the bad guys notices the escape attempt. Amanda now has to fly the Whirlybird.

Lee: Feet on the pedals! Right hand on the stick! Left hand down on the throttle!
    Amanda: Why?
    Lee: We’re flying!”

Amanda’s face at this is simply amazing. She’s supposed to FLY the thing???? Amanda’s helpless attempts cause the super spy to panic. First, she saves him, and then kills him with the helicopter? God be merciful.

No, the screaming isn’t my favorite scene either, but Lee’s facial expressions are simply hilarious. I wonder if KJ really shot the first (flying) scenes and how the producers implemented them. Oh boy, I would have loved to have been there….

    LeeWhat are you wearing?”

That sounds like it was recorded afterwards. Lee sounds so cool and the background noises are suddenly very, very quiet. But yes, this delivery is gold. The action scenes are long, but I laugh until I cry every time I see the forward and backward maneuvers of the helicopter and the car. Wonderful choreography, hilarious. Like a ballet.

Amanda: My car? Oh, what am I going to do?
    Lee: Land?”

Gosh, I love that answer… Too bad, we don’t get to see THAT.

How did Amanda actually get home? Lee doesn’t have a car because she was kidnapped. Amanda doesn’t have a car because she was wrecked by the baddies. Yet Amanda is home on time to set the table, put the bird in the oven, and prepare everything for dinner with Dean.

Seriously, how long does this giant bird take to cook through?
It must be hours. It’s still raw!!
Why didn’t Dotty put it in the oven already if she KNOWS Dean will be there on time? She is standing right next to the sign.

    TAG SCENE (Amandaramble)

I wonder if KJ managed to pull that off in one shot. I would have died laughing. Lee, in any case, isn’t happy with this debating. He is pacing back and forth, hoping to finally get rid of the blabbermouth. Ready? No, she’s just getting started, and he’s keeping pace. Francine raises her eyebrows, but Amanda saved her too. I hope that the stupid cow realizes what Amanda did for her.

Billy: Scarecrow, I think we may have finally found you a partner.”

Gosh, I LOVE Mel’s face at this moment. He knows exactly what he is doing to Lee. Correct me if I misheard, but I think this is the first time we hear the name Scarecrow in this episode.

    IWSOD, yes, you’re right.

I feel for Lee at the end, adjusting to good things that come into your life and change – it takes time, and can be a little painful, and man does he look like he’s in pain.”

I think it’s really painful for Lee to have to listen to Amanda’s ramble and know that his supervisor has assigned him this woman as his (civilian) partner. And that there’s nothing he can do about it. Nothing. He has to deal with this chaotic, arduous woman.

I also think that at this point he neither registers nor appreciates everything Amanda has done for him.

My personal favorite moment in this episode:
The scene from 16:05 to 16:15. The dance. Lee’s slight smile, the glances between the two, and the physical closeness. Lee’s closed eyes and the way the two lean their heads against each other. It gives me butterflies every time.

    Funniest moment for me:
Lee’s facial expressions at 21:08 min, 21:18 min, and 21:37 min.

    My saddest moment:
The arm movement at 25:58 min when he leaves.

It’s a shame that Walk 2 hasn’t started for the next episodes yet. But I’ll just comment on Walk 1… and hope it doesn’t continue until 2026. But I’ll be there, IWSOD.

  2. I have a question- who else thinks Netflix or one of the channels should do a reboot and have Lee (Bruce Boxleinter) be the head of the agency and Phillip and Jamie as agents?

  3. That looked like a raw chicken that Amanda put in the oven, which would take a while to cook. Dean might have waited a long time for his dinner. Good tie-in that the plot was about food and cooking then Amanda is seen making dinner at the end of the episode. Wonder if that was one of Mrs. Welch’s recipes. Love the look on Lee’s face when Amanda rambled about dentists and vegetables. Priceless.

  4. Love Amanda’s instincts and resourcefulness in putting sugar in the gas tank. Love that Billy recognizes what an asset she could be.

Lee’s attitude in the office always bugs me. Amanda saved his life, so you would think he’d be more grateful.

Francine sure is cocky considering she was the “Loose Lips” that almost sank Lee’s ship!

Overall, I think this was a very good pilot. It sets up the characters nicely and leaves you wanting to know what happens next.

  5. This last scene, I love it. Lee’s face and expression when he sees Amanda again. He thought he would never see her again. As far as what his first thought is, when he sees her as he’s being taken to the helicopter. His thoughts were surprised when he sees her, and realizes this woman is amazing, which caught him off guard.

When Amanda starts flying the helicopter is hilarious, when Lee looks at her and asks what is she wearing? his expression when looking at her is priceless. I can watch that over and over and still laugh.

In the kitchen, when Amanda is putting the chicken in the oven, I never noticed the ceiling. Never knew that Dean had a key to her house, as he just walked into her home. He is just so dull, it was so obvious that Amanda was never into him, most of it was her Dotty meddling in her business.

Back at the Agency, when Amanda is describing to Billy what happened as he tries to understand what she’s saying. Amanda is looking quite confident while Lee looks as if he just wants to hide as she just saved his life.

As she and Lee are leaving, and Lee calls Francine Loose lips, I never related that to Francine babbling in the kitchen. I also wondered if Lee knew they had Francine and drugged her. As they’re walking, and Amanda is going on about how she likes the area, and the thought of working with Lee, little did they both know that was the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

    Love it!!!

    1. My favorite underappreciated moment in this episode is the look on Lee’s face when Amanda has figured out where the action is and has not shirked from danger. How did she get here?? He works alone. It is out first real insight into the deep loyalty each has to the other. It is so much fun to see him see that for the first time.

      1. So true!!! Amanda exceeded Lee’s expectations huh!!
He is not used to having others come through for him, he’s use to being on his own. Ah Lee…

  6. “Loose Lips” is absolutely a reference to Francine (albeit drugged and coerced) giving up vital information regarding the whereabouts of their agents. As in “Loose Lips Sink Ships” as the motto was during WWII.

All my thoughts at this point are kind of random:

Given Phillip / Jamie’s age at the time of the pilot, I don’t think there’s a chance in the world either one of them were capable of leaving a note for their mom on the chalkboard with such legible handwriting.
The helicopter scene is really a pretty great piece of action — no CGI there, just a very skilled stunt person spinning that thing around to look dangerous. The whole scene plays out as quite thrilling to me, even by today’s standards.
I agree that, in the midst of all the chaos, Lee stopping to wonder what on earth Amanda was wearing, while meant to be derogatory towards her wholesomeness, was actually a clue that very early on he was quite dialed in on everything she did and wore. And let’s be honest, Amanda looks darling all kitted up like a den mother.
It does seem like this tag scene is the first time Amanda has directly communicated to Billy and I think it’s hilarious that he asks, “but had you ever been in a whirlybird before?” I doubt that’s what Billy would call a “helicopter” but it implies that Amanda’s first breathless recap (that the audience doesn’t hear) included her calling it a “whirlybird” and Billy was charmed by that, so repeated it back to her.

  7. I’ve always loved how Lee is surprised to see Amanda as he’s being led to the helicopter because it shows how he’s used to not depending on anyone but Amanda will change everything for him and it’s wonderful to see their journey together!I love Lee’s “What are you wearing” because it shows that he’s paying attention to Amanda even though he won’t admit it!Love how Billy is just so interested in Amanda’s explanation, he always saw such potential in Amanda and always treated her with such respect, unlike Lee and Francine but they will learn and Lee can’t get rid of Amanda fast enough but I love how when Amanda gets up to leave and Lee instantly takes her hands to leave the office because he just can’t help himself and we don’t want you to either, his body is making decisions that his head and heart aren’t ready to and when Billy offers Amanda to help and Lee’s not happy because Amanda makes him feel confused and uncomfortable and Billy always knew that with Amanda around,Lee would be more careful and that’s exactly what happened and he takes her by her arms again! It’s like he’s thinking I must touch her, his body language was always the only way that he could show his affection for Amanda in the early years! Totally agree that Lee is struggling to keep up with Amanda and he will for years because this woman is a one of a kind, she doesn’t fawn over him, she’s a genuine woman with a good heart, she’s in this work because she wants to do something important besides being a mother and Lee coming into her life also begins her journey to a more fulfilling life!

  8. As for the location for the last tag, you can clearly read a street sign saying ‘Thomas Jefferson Street”. I wondered if that was just plonked in for the shot to go with the whole motif throughout the ep of colonial USA, but a quick look at Google maps and streetview shows Thomas Jefferson St crossing the Chesapeake and Ohio canal so I am guessing it is somewhere around this area

    1. The C&O canal is historic–mules used to tow barges filled with lumber, agricultural products, etc down the canal to be sold at market or shipped. This particular location is right in Georgetown and not far from the Agency, so it’s not out of the realm of possiblity that Lee and Amanda would be walking there.

  9. “I think Amanda is extremely resourceful and brave.. I can see why this would be intriguing to Lee even if he doesn’t have a clue at this point what to do with it. I think throughout this episode Amanda constantly takes Lee by surprise – he thought the suburban mom would be predictable and easy to play… what he found was a resourceful, brave woman who actually showed care for him and went out of her way to help him.”

Fantastic summary/observation Iwsod of the dynamic between Lee and Amanda and the reason for the attraction for Lee. Amanda is resourceful and brave, you have put it so well.

I totally think Lee’s ‘loose lips’ was a comment about Francine being the source of the leak. Francine could been a little more sheepish. Francine may also want to rethink the whole ‘housewife’ thing; take a look at Mrs Welch, as you note Iwsod, she is packing heat! And she is the head and/or major player in some big espionage thing (do we ever find out why they are killing agents?? What is there criminal enterprise about???) that is using a kitchen and cooking to communicate top secret deadly messages. Watch out for these domestic types Francine, I think they are about to take over the world.

How fabulous to have a middle aged lady that does a cooking program as a senior baddie, I love this show

Looking at the great screen shots here, when you look at the shots where Amanda is trying to untie the Killick Hitch, you can see the helicopter windows are surrounded by a big brown outline but when we see the helicopter flying (right after ‘Whadda you care”) the brown is gone, looks like a completely different helicopter.

“Dean called to say he will be on time”. And then ‘so honey how was your day’ , an absolute perfect scene to show the differences between Dean and Amanda and where Amanda’s life is going

Ha! Never noticed before, thanks Iwsod, this ep definately has three tags! All three add a lot of info about the characters and where the series is going so I am glad they showed all three
