Wow 9 posts on this episode! Can you tell I’m a little sad to move on from it?! On with the story! Lee and Amanda arrive at Das Geisterschloss having followed Dr Evil there.
Love Lee and Amanda’s argument about staying in the car.. They arrive at the castle and Lee sets about leaving Amanda.. he assumes she isn’t coming.
Amanda: Leee!! (calling him back to the car)
Lee responds simply: No!
Amanda: you don’t know what I’m gonna say.
[we all know what Amanda is going to say! ]Lee: I know exactly what you’re gonna say
and I don’t want to hear it. I don’t know what’s going on up there or what I’ll run into and I don’t have time to worry about you!
Amanda: Mrs Farnsworth sent for me.
Lee: Stay in the car!
Amanda: Lee! I am the one who remembered the sketches [hmm don’t think that tactic is gonna work Amanda…] and figured out the clues.
Lee: Stay! In! The! Car! Pleeeaase!!
Amanda: she’s my friend too and I could be able to help! Leeeee [he’s weakening!! keep it up Amanda ] I don’t know what’s happened to
Mrs Farnsworth, but I do know what happened to Marianna. [oh winner! that’ll do it!] If I wait in the car, the same thing could happen to me too.
Love the look Lee gives her here.. like ohhh that’s sneaky! you know I can’t say no to you when you say things like that!!
awh!! He knows he’s lost this one..
Lee: You promise me, that you will take off at the first sign of trouble Huh?
Amanda: right.
Lee: and you listen to everything that I say.
Amanda: I always do.
Lee: ohhh hooo haaaaa… ( grrr!!) love how he has no comeback for that in english just an ironic chuckle and growl kind of thing.. and he just shakes his head – no one believes that anymore Amanda! Least of all Lee
They know each other too well now huh!
Amanda: Thank you.
Lee: yeah yeah yeah yeah.. 😆
In a funny way, it shows how they are progressing! Lee knows she won’t stay.. and Amanda knows how to talk him into anything! And Lee knows Amanda has his number!
Don’t you just love this little exchange on the stairs?
Amanda: where did Dr Hanover go?
Lee: Where we’re going. Inside. this is what you get when you don’t wait in the car!
Amanda: I didn’t say anything.
Lee: Just stay close to me [ oh yes please!]
Amanda grabs onto him.. and sticks VERY close to him!
Lee: Amanda?!
Amanda: close, but not that close! 😆
Uh oh.. they get busted before they’re even through the door.. Scottish baddie says: We’ve been expecting you! [rofl! Everything that baddie says is a really bad cliche! Sooo was it a trap then? did Dr Evil want them to follow him?
Lee and Amanda are led down a steep staircase.. to join Emily, Metzger and Dr Evil..
Dr Evil is saddened very much that they are all there and have to die? Oh boo hoooo! Ohhh so one of the other baddies told him they were coming up the path.. so he hadn’t known they were following him.. I suspected it may have been a trap, but I guess not! I’m glad-because had it been a trap then Marianna had no reason to die!
The baddies must head off.. they have tapes to pack.. with juicy info on those Nato talks – had you forgotten about that? Yeah.. me too!
Nato shmato.. The baddies are leaving das geisterscloss.. setting up a little death trap for the Scooby doo gang (Emily is Velma!) and escaping..
Whooo here’s the part where we get an explanation of how the baddies will kill the goodies, only it can’t happen until the baddies have left, (so James Bond! Don’t you think?!) and the goodies then have time to try and come up with a way to avoid death.. yup.. off you go baddies! How else are we going to escape and take you by surprise hmmmm???
So.. the baddies leave them to die.. expecting the bomb will go off and the castle will crush them all! muahahahaha!!
It’s too funny how they don’t even tie up Lee and Amanda! rofl! these baddies really are dumb! Lee climbs up to get the bomb down off the rafters, while Amanda unties Emily and Metzger. You know what really cracks me up about this little action finale? What a dill Metzger is!! Yes the trained Austrian Intelligence officer seems to just watch the Americans save the day – doing nothing unless he is told to by Lee – it is so awful and ridiculous I find him hilarious!!!
Haaaa.. love how Lee is so rough around the bomb.. Love how he scares everyone jumping onto the thing the bomb is sitting on! He’s such a boy!!!
Bet trained Metzger knows nothing about bombs.. tee hee..
Love how Amanda starts to become hysterical and accidentally comes up with the solution for blasting the door… Well done Amanda! …Love Amanda’s confused expression at this undeserved praise!
Emily thinks it’s worth a try ( using the dynamite in the bomb to open the door).. Metzger warns if they open it up- it might blow!! ( whoooo he got a line of dialogue!! ) As the trained agents debate what to do behind them Amanda sneaks behind the big wooden chest for protection.
Lee calls out: Everybody get behind the wooden chest over there, you too Amanda! (Yes Metzger can’t like.. help or anything! He should just do what Lee says! I mean.. it’s not like this is his country or anything.. oh wait.. err yes it is!! they are in Austria! but still- do what Lee says!! )
Too cute! Amanda pops her head up from behind the chest: Already here.
Lee with the bomb ticking can’t help but chuckle at her!
Lee: screwdriver, I need a screwdriver..
Of course, Lee manages to remove some dynamite, doing a little macgyer with Emily’s glasses… Wow.. he even gave Metzger a job – throwing a couple of the excess sticks of dynamite out the window! whooooo!!!
And then Metzger just goes and hides behind the crate with everyone else again while Lee struggles to pull the little grating off the door so he can put the bomb on the other side! Metzger looks like such a wimp!! tee heee.. poor Metzger! but.. Doesn’t Lee look the hero eh!!!
Yippeeee for Lee! ( Hey! Stunt Lee does another star jump! Only this time away from the blast.. whooo hooo)
The gang take on the baddies, stopping them leaving with the vital info..
[Das Geisterschloss in the Slipper and the Rose is the King’s Castle! and this courtyard can be seen when the Prince breaks the glass case the Cinderella’s shoe has been displayed in.. devastated he hasn’t found her! I am guessing there will be English SMK fans who will know this film well!]
Anyway, Lee’s compulsory 10 minutes of action begins.. goooo Lee…
There goes Lee the human bird! did you see how far he jumped? what a man!!! Err what a bird! What a birdman!!! ( How Ironic. for a man codenamed Scarecrow!!!!! ROFL!!)
flap flap….
I love how in the middle of the episode, Lee took on the big smelly baddie, only to find his punches did nothing to him.. but here now, in the finale, Lee’s punches are extra determined! and they find their mark… and.. actually bring smelly bad guy down! whoa!!
Ahhh and again Metzger proves to be pretty incapable! He tackles Macbaddie to stop him shooting at Lee (hurray!) but is immediately knocked unconscious!! LOL! He doesn’t even get to put up a fight! Then MacBaddie [who suddenly has a really Macbad wig on!] is knocked out and draped unconscious over Metzger..
Yep.. Metzger actually finishes this fight not even throwing a single punch- out for the count and covered by an unconscious baddie.. LOL they really do make Metzger look like a dill! [I don’t know why Emily would have called him to come help her poor Austrian intelligence! I am sure they are in reality just as brilliant as any other country’s !! I can imagine any Austrians watching this ep would wish they had seen Metzger contribute something? anything???!! ]
I wonder what Amanda was going to do with that staff if Dr Annoying moved?
Love Emily’s encouragement for Scarecrow and Amanda.. and Lee’s congratulatory squeeze of Amanda!!! – Oh how far we have come from his Not Bad in Magic Bus!!!!
Tag time! and back to the wonderful restaurant with the views (that doesn’t exist! ) where Lee, Amanda and Emily are celebrating their success- I have been too busy to compare the script in detail (that job is open to anyone who would enjoy doing it!) but.. I did have a quick look at the tag in the script- and in the script Metzger joins them to celebrate! LOL.. he even got demoted from that too!
How close are Lee’s and Amanda’s hands on that table? hmm? do you think the director was directing them to do that? or do I just see it because I want to? !!!… and .. do I really care?!
Lee: Emily you never cease to amaze me. A case like this comes along and you shine like you always have. Eh? he should have been saying those words to Amanda IMHO!How exactly did Emily “shine” Lee? I mean ok, she figured out where the signals were being intercepted, left clues in her sketches – yes all very clever.. no doubt.. but she called for help, didn’t wait for it to arrive and just went off by herself and got caught- if she’d just waited till they got there, then there would have been no need for sketches (and well.. we wouldn’t have this lovely episode so three cheers for Emily! tee hee.. ) No no – I don’t think she was super clever in this episode sorry ( though I love her character!) Because she recklessly went off like that, she put Marianna in the position of knowing where she went.. and it got Marianna killed! Somehow this is completely forgotten here though.. Emily put Marianna, a civilian, in that position – and there is not a mention of it – it is the one part of this plot that bugs me the most..it doesn’t sit right with the tone of smk… This is just my opinion of course (like everything else I say!
) and I still love to bits this episode.. Because when it’s good – it’s sooooo good!
and so I shall continue on with this tag.. Emily: It’s like I always told you Lee, you don’t have to run rings around the enemy as long as you can think rings around him. (eh???!! How exactly did Emily “think rings around the enemy”? I must have been watching a different episode
)
Amanda: well you certainly did that! (??)
Love the smile Lee gives Amanda as she compliments Emily! Awhh!! Lee begins to pour drinks for everyone..
Emily: and you remembered my sketching! (Emily asks Lee for more schnapps in german- show off
)
Lee goes to pour some more for Amanda: oh no bitte! (love the playful scowl Lee gives her when she says no more! )
And Amanda and Emily have a laugh at Lee! Too cute..
Lee: I think a toast is in order! to Colonel Metzger and our Austrian friends, and.. the ghost castle of Salzburg!
I think that is lovely and makes up a tiny bit for the Austrian intelligence being made to look like fools (IMHO!) though I am sorry Austrians didn’t get to contribute really!
Amanda finishes for Lee: Das Geisterschloss! ( listening to Amanda try and speak german is very cute! I am sure Lee thinks so too )Like how Lee is making eye contact with Amanda over their toast.. awh… they seem to forget Emily is there for a moment! squeeeee!!
Emily interjects: And us!
They all chink glasses.. what is it you say in Austria when toasting? and there’s one hand you are suppose to hold the glass in isn’t there? If any Austrians are reading I would love to hear what the tradition is!
Emily: whooo! I almost forgot! …
(see Amanda grimace as she downs her drink?!)
A little momento of your trip.. Personalised..
Amanda: Ohhhh!!
Lee: Emily!! ( it’s too cute how he says that! ) ha ha haaaa..
Amanda: ohhh look! that’s a… that’s an A! That’s an A in the tree
Lee: no no nooo that’s an L
Amanda: and that’s a G!
Lee: no that’s an L
Amanda: that’s a G
Lee: L? [Lee and Amanda are talking at the same time.. so this dialogue is roughly what they say!]
Amanda: that’s not an L, no that’s an N.. that’s a P?
Lee wordlessly watches Amanda.. she realises, their eyes meet
and they burst into laughter at how silly they are! Wonderful to see them enjoying each other isn’t it??!!
I think I can hear Amanda quietly say: Oh gosh! as they begin to laugh – but the music’s pretty loud.. can anyone else catch what she’s saying?
A lovely way to end a lovely episode!! The script ends the same way, only it adds this interesting explanation: Mrs Farnsworth smiles as Lee and Amanda, like two excited children, continue to hunt for their names. – interesting! so it was suppose to be their names.. I had thought that maybe there were no letters in it- but because of their experience in this episode they were seeing them!
I love how the close up of the sketch with the hands pointing totally doesn’t match the rest of the tag. Yes, there is lots of Magic in this tag – all those looks between Lee and Amanda – and Amanda’s sleeves are magically transformed in the close up! (and Lee’s sleeve magically disappears! ) Rofl!! heheee.. Yep “that’s an A!!! notice that tiny miniscule letter hidden there? but completely overlook that the girl is wearing a completely different sleeve???!!!! too funny..
This sketch is based on one of their publicity shots from the first season..
Did anyone wonder what they did with the sketches from this episode? I think they are lovely.. and are there any fan fics about who gets to keep the sketch? Lee or Amanda? there’s only one.. so who took it home? Amanda? she couldn’t.. she couldn’t let her family see a sketch of her and Lee! Soooo.. maybe Lee took it home.. Hmm! I kinda like the thought of Lee having a sketch of Amanda in his home!
If Emily didn’t play matchmaker between these two before, surely she must now see how great they are together!
Thanks for joining me on our walk through this fabulous episode.. I am soooo glad they filmed in Europe – and that we get to see Emily really show her talents very soon! Any thoughts, comments, insights, questions?? Feel free to share and ask away! Thanks!
I’m a few years and seasons behind … 🫤
Just wanted to comment on a few things about this episode, mostly superficial stuff but my brain seems to focus in on all the touching that happens between Lee & Amanda:
Just like OMIT, there is soooo much touching. Lee & Amanda really have very little sense of personal space between each other 😉. Don’t get me wrong, I love how very closely they tend to stand together, especially when the situation doesn’t call for it. Some examples (that others may have already noted): chin flick when he says it’s okay for her to search Emily’s room, his thumb totally caresses her hand in the café scene, the omnipresent arm around her waist, even that scene where Lee’s trying to turn her around, he puts his hand around the front of her waist, and it’s totally normal for work colleagues to have arms around each other while running down a narrow street – just before they intercept Metzger, among many. And I haven’t even gotten to the “Just stay close to me” and “Close, but not the close” scene. Despite that exchange, Lee still manages to wrap his arm around Amanda’s waist as they’re led down those steep stairs at gunpoint. 😁
I do appreciate how progressively casual Lee gets: from his fully buttoned-up suit to his top shirt button being undone, to his tie being loosened, to no tie at all! And then … and then … wet, open-shirt Lee! 🤤 Honestly, I think I would take wet open-shirt Lee any day, over Colin Firth’s wet shirt Mr. Darcy. Never mind, I’ll take wet-shirt Lee any day, full stop! 😜
The table at that hilltop “café” must be really small. The proximity of their hands (if you can ignore Emily’s presence) – so very close! Reminds me of the similar scene in OMIT where Lee & Amanda are sitting together at a café table, hands nearly touching. Awwwh!
Iwsod, the connection to “The Slipper & the Rose” was a nice surprise! I actually have the dvd. My daughter and I loved watching this movie when she was little (sometimes she’ll still say “protocoligorically correct!”). We always laughed at the over-the-top wedding scene with the Spanish princess 🤣
And love that castle shot from Sound of Music – we absolutely love SoM and watch it every year. Don’t know why but the local tv station plays SoM every year around Christmas. My husband says he knows it’s Christmas when my daughter and I are wrapping presents, while watching SoM. LOL
Anyways … I’ve babbled on too long. 🙃

I love this episode & you did a great job covering it. Thanks for the extras with the script; they are always so interesting.
And there is just something about the name “Das Geisterschloss”! I love saying it. The kids looked at me like I was crazy when I said it at random times throughout the day after watching it.

Just one comment: Did Emily borrow that tag outfit from Francine’s closet? Yikes!

McBaddie lmao too funny IWSOD!
Really loved the Great Escape style music when they escape from the locked room, really love these touches.
I seriously think Emily is channeling her inner Maria with that dress she’s wearing in the tag. It completely reminds me of Sound of Music!
Yep more imaginary letters in the picture, perhaps with a bit more schnapps they will become clearer 😉 Sweet tag though. I am LOLing at the magic sleeve and I love the idea of the Scooby Gang!

So if Emily is Velma, does that make Amanda – Daphne, Metzer – Shaggy and Lee – Fred??? Yep, just missing the dog – Scooby Doo.

I watched this episode yesterday with my mum and you know what she said: “Hey… don’t you remember? We’ve been there once on vacation about 10 years ago, I think! The castle was fantastic, there was a bird of prey flight demonstration and…etc”
…. GEEE… I don’t remember anything of it 😦 That’s just not fair…

Thanks for sharing the script tidbit. I always assumed she had hidden their names in the picture, though the fantic is cute, too. I think Emily’s sketching talents and hiding the letters in them was what Lee was referring to when he said she “shined.” She does always seem to be thinking ahead. So, while she did go off by herself, she also planted clues so that she could be found or at least followed. (I don’t think Lee ever does this.)
And I do feel sorry for Metzger, as he doesn’t get to do a lot to help. But then, Lee is the chosen hero of the day, so he’ll always get the spotlight for that. 😉 (tv-land strikes again- lol)
