Back to the baddies.. “we sell women, not luggage.” My.. how charming.. what a super creep!! Uh oh.. the ‘buyer’ has seen Amanda’s picture? ohhhh I find this whole thing hard to believe..but ok ok, I’ll go with it! Only our gorgeous lovely Amanda will do…Ewwwwwww!!!!!
Gail is a ‘luscious creature’(Who talks like that?!!) but alas, she is ‘only a blonde. She will draw a decent dollar but Mrs King is a Brunette… And, Brunettes Are In’
Pearce is a piece of work, I can’t wait to see Lee direct some of that anger back onto Pearce! where it belongs! “our client is looking for a cultured woman to add to his collection, someone who could train the others, now I am not a flesh peddler, I deal in class….
Kurtz: What’s the big deal about this Mrs King? there’s plenty of Brunettes.
Pearce: suburban housewives appeal to the buyer’s sense of humour..
Yep, you’re a classy guy.. He’s no normal flesh peddler, he’s a class peddler!! ewwwwwww….. I can’t remember what happens to this guy.. but I hope it is slooow and painful!! ‘Collection’? I hope someone helps the women that are already a part of his collection!!!!!
Pearce: Mrs King is worth five blondes [well I agree with that.. but for different reasons!
] he wants HER!(he slams his hand on her photo) not just her purse! All of her!!
Ohhhh kay.. soooo the baddies are set on kidnapping Amanda.. uh oh… [This storyline is really awful – far more gritty than your usual smk episode – do you agree? ]
Back to Suburbia.. and Dotty is a woman of action.. cancelling credit cards, contacting counsellor Hogan.. and
Amanda finds out Gail has been missing since the night before last- Poor Gail!! It’s fabulous to see Dotty get so
steamed about the crime that is happening around her – it kind of makes me think: that’s where Amanda gets her drive for justice from. A nice touch!
The kids ask Amanda if she’ll be in a commercial anytime soon- Amanda says she doubts it- it didn’t work out so well – ( Amanda talking about the microdot-) Interestingly: the script here adds Amanda saying: I don’t think I’ll be going to work for a while. Things didn’t work out so well. While it didn’t make it into the episode I think it’s interesting- and highlights how Amanda at the moment sees her job at the agency.. With Lee being so cranky with her, it’s unlikely she will be working there.. (ie. Apart from Lee, she has no job) Just a guess- but interesting! The boys ask permission to play football in the backyard. Amanda says sure! Just don’t talk to any strangers.
Phillip: In the backyard??
LOL! strangers in the backyard?! but also: why do they need to ask permission to play in their backyard in the first place? eh???
Dotty interrupts: You won’t believe this!! I got a recording!
Amanda: I believe it! ( so random!! and it adds a nice touch to the chaos of the home.. interruptions etc. These home scenes are really well done huh!! )
Jamie: Is Billy Bartlett okay? [ Is that a reference to Juanita Bartlett? one of the writers?? ]
Phillip: Jamie, Billy can’t catch.
Jamie: well at least he’s not a stranger!
Amanda: that’s right!
The boys head out into the yard.. and Amanda tells Dotty she is going to go fill in at the Charity for a while.. Dotty is very distressed about all the crime going on, gives Amanda a kiss and tells her to be careful.
Very sweet! For me, it underlines a reason why it is good for Amanda to be doing the work she is doing- she is making the world a safer place..
On to the Charity.. We see Mr Sinclair approaching Amanda.. LOL watch the lady to the side carrying the red bolt of fabric. She stands there, waits for Mr Sinclair to pass and the bing! she jumps into action walking in the background- I think she didn’t realise she was on camera!! tee hee.. and then, she tries to stay in the shot as long as she can! go check her out!! rofl!!
Sinclair: that lovely perfume must be Mrs King! – ewwwwwwwwwww.. this guy is soooo disgusting!!!!
Whoo Amanda’s hair is short again – have you noticed how it is short long short long throughout this whole episode!!
Amanda: Hello Mr Sinclair. Is there any news about Gail?
[Here we see the same lady behind them, who had walked across with the red fabric just turns and watches KJ and this guy deliver their dialogue – rofl!! that’s probably what I would be like if I had ever been an extra!! ]
Sinclair: Noo.. the police are doing all they can. Try not to worry.
Amanda: Well I just thought I’d come by and see if I can help out.
Sinclair: well, I’m sure Mrs Taylor would really appreciate that and if there’s anything you need you just look for me or any of these people can help you.
Amanda: I will
Sinclair: Mrs King, the children thank you.. ohh he is sooo sappy and soooo lying!!!! yuck! I really want this guy to get it good too!
Here is Lee the good guy treating Amanda badly, and then.. here is Slimy Sinclair being nice to her – and he is evil!!! (Hmm another similarity with Artful Dodger!) Speaking of Lee.. He arrives suddenly carrying flowers!
Lee: excuse me! where would you like me to put these flowers?! [ I can think of somewhere you can put them right now
grrrr…] Amanda whispers: what are you doing here?
Lee: Amanda I need you…djga’ghahga’ghaai shgaskghaskgha… wha? [I think that line is total Fan Service!! and I love it!!
I bet that snippet was included in the commerical for this episode! Lee finally expresses his feelings??!!!
]
Lee: we may have gotten a break on this case. One of our street sources seems to think the guy who grabbed you the other day was a purse snatcher not an agent. Now I didn’t get a good look at him but you did. I really need you to come down look at some pictures
Ohh!!! Leee!!! I thought you were finding Amanda to say sorry! Nooo he’s all business! How did he know she was there?
[he has his ways ]
I think Amanda is feeling the weight of her screwing up the assignment- even though I don’t think she did.. I think at this point she believes it.
Amanda: well alright.
Lee: good come on.
One thing I will say, Good on Amanda for not holding a grudge here.. she could have told Lee where to shove the flowers.. but she doesn’t – because she wants to finish the job she was given and help the agents.. good on Amanda!
Lee doesn’t have the good sense to feel ashamed or embarrassed about the way he treated her when he saw her last. To make matters worse- he is all business.. explaining it was a purse snatcher..sooo it wasn’t Amanda’s fault? go on- say it!!
Ok, I will finish up there for now.. hope you are enjoying this episode! As always I would love to hear any insights, feedback, questions or anything you would like to say!! Thanks for reading and back with more soon! byeeeee
(sorry for the occassionally small fonts.. the blog is not co-operating! Bad Blog! hope you can cope with it ok!! )
Just a take on the backyard thing. Part of it is just so your parents know where you are. If they need to find you, they aren’t searching the house getting agitated and wondering if you’re playing hide and seek to avoid going somewhere or hiding in a corner to scare you.
Also there are legit times when it mught not be okay. Maybe Amanda is intending to take them shopping for clothes or they have responsibilities to finish or something like that.

Hey, wasn’t there an episode of Charlie’s Angels about human trafficking where Sabrina was kidnapped or her cover was blown? Am I making that up? Anyone?

I’m not that far into CA but it wouldn’t surprise me. I’m only like 7 episodes in and I have seen one other similar story and a physical gag as well. I have wondered if it’s just a fluke or the writers paying homage to KJ. Hmm

“why do they need to ask permission to play in their backyard in the first place?”
Just an answer from a mom……. 🙂 I don’t like looking for my kids all over the house, then yelling for them, not being able to find them, & then discovering they were outside the whole time & never heard me. I think its pretty realistic that Amanda as a busy mom would have a rule that she wants to know when they are going outside.
And I’m sure they put it in to be tongue-in-cheek since the “stranger” in the backyard would most likely be Lee, & she wouldn’t want them to talk to him either!

I love Lee’s hair in this “Amanda I need you” spot. It is in place but doesn’t look perfect. He is looking particularly good. Imagine how much better he’d look dressed in an apology!
I agree, iwsod, the whole topic of selling women as ‘slaves’ is a bit gritty as you say for SMK and an 8pm time slot in the US in the 80’s. I wish I could remember what I thought of it when I watched it the first time as a teenager.
I haven’t read the script for this episode, but I think that Amanda realizes that it’s going to be a while before Lee asks her to take anything else on at the agency. Perhaps she’s not sure herself. I think she was a little scared after the guy who gave her the microdot told her it wasn’t safe. Lee was not there to be her safety net and she’s had no training.

Even if it was a KGB agent her bag being snatched wouldn’t have been her fault either! Makes no difference whether its a crook or a spy.
Meh. I need you. Lee that line would have been so much better had you not been Mr Stroppy Pants 😦
I wondered whilst watching this whether the film Taken took its inspiration from the plot of this episode LOL I keep waiting for Liam Neeson to jump out LOL
