Amanda is lead down to the bottom of the boat blindfolded, and we see Lee in a room furiously pulling on his shackles to get free of the pile he is tied to- you can hear how determined he is Grrrrr!!!!! He hears the door is
being opened so he slumps down and pretends to be really out of it. The door opens and in comes Amanda ..Man! I do wish we had seen Lee’s face when he saw Amanda come through the door!
He has his back to camera-[we see he freezes when he realises it’s Amanda but man I wish I could see his face!] he must have been frantic with worry about what was happening to her, where she was… then to see her enter would have been such a relief!!
Amanda’s blindfold is removed: Leee!!!
The baddie closes the door behind him as he leaves, and Amanda tries banging on the door..
Lee: Amanda, it’s no use!
Amanda: Ohhh Lee! Are you alright?
Amanda rushes back to Lee’s side to comfort him.. you know I never notice this before, but before she grabs his arm, I think she reaches out to touch his cheek! See:
then her hand rests on his (huge) biceps
Lee: Am I alright? …
…I’m chained to a pipe do I look like I’m alright? !!! ( haaaaa.. now that is classic smk.. 😆 )
Amanda: I’m sorry [ Amanda is very tender here, inspite of Lee’s response.. awh!!-I think I am going to say that a lot from this point onwards! better than ‘ewww’ all the time huh!]
Lee: It’s okay, it’s okay.
Amanda notices Gail passed out on the bed: Gail? Lee: yeah.
Amanda moves closer to check on her: Gail?
Lee calls her back to him: Amanda she’s drugged. Look, if we don’t get a move on you’re gonna be next!
[Don’t you love that Lee’s concern here is for Amanda.. he isn’t thinking ‘microdot’ at all..AWHHH!!]
Amanda: Lee.. they were ar-after after me all the time. they were never after the microdot
[and I love that with a future in slavery possibly ahead of her- Amanda has kept her head!!!! Amanda’s thinking- microdot!!!! She has a job to do!! ]
We see Lee give a silent, understanding nod – like yeah.. it wasn’t your fault-Awwwh!!! (at least that’s how I interpret it.) Amanda continues: My purse is upstairs on the desk.
[ What a PROOO!!!! ]
Determined Lee: You saw it??!! [He might be more concerned about Amanda, I’m convinced! but he still wants to get the job done too!! ]
Amanda: yes it’s on the desk I’ll bet the sock’s still in it.
Lee: come on! we gotta move!
Lee grabs his shackles and starts pulling on the pipe.. you might want to fill Amanda in on your plan there Lee.. you don’t always automatically have a plan you know – ‘you’re belt !!! give me your belt!!’ don’t you remember?! ‘No plan’?? ‘not at this moment’! tee hee.. well I certainly haven’t forgotten.. [Can’t Amanda now magically use the prong on his belt to unlock his shackles? it worked in double agent, and on Jamie’s bike!
ok ok. Amanda only magically knew how to unpick locks for one episode..] What is the plan here Lee?
Amanda: I’m gonna getcha out of here.
(awh!!) Amanda starts searching around the room for an idea.. but Lee already has one..
Lee: no wait! Now Amanda?
Amanda: yes.
Lee: err Amanda ( his tone becoming more insistent.. just tell her Lee! she’s not a mind reader no one can pick up those nuances! )
Amanda: Yes.
Lee: Amanda, I have got a plan!
Amanda: what is it?
Lee: look, I’ve worked this pipe loose from the joint, just a little bit more with some more weight and I think we can disconnect it!…
… Grab that towel, wrap it around the pipe. Go on!
Amanda: Yes? [her towel is wrapped around the pipe]
Lee: Alright, now.. let’s pull down.
Amanda: drop our weight?
Lee: Yes. Right?…… Now!
(grunt grunt..) It’s goin.. it’s goin..
Look, Amanda?
Amanda: yes?
Lee: you know what we were talking about before?
Amanda spins around to face the camera.. is it my imagination or does Amanda have a little smile here?? (almost hopeful?-whooo I just saw her lick her lips!! ) at Lee bringing this up??
It’s so hard to see their facial expressions and get pics without an elbow in their face or something! Lol! Amanda shuts her eyes waiting for Lee to continue..
Amanda: yeah. [Amanda immediately knows!]
Lee: Maybe it’s a good idea..
…that you do leave the agency.
[Lee looks so regretful when he says this- (AWH!!) would you agree? It isn’t what he wants- but he wonders if it is best for her.. I love that he doesn’t tell her what to do though good one Lee!]
Amanda: Ohhh no I don’t think so!
[hurray! Amanda has an idea of her own now! ] Amanda spins back to face Lee..
Lee: Look, if you weren’t at the agency, you wouldn’t be in a mess like this.
[Aaaactually, in this instance.. she would!
but.. we finally learn what is at the heart of Lee’s resistance to Amanda’s career at the agency!]
Amanda: Yahh!!! but I wouldn’t have you to save me either then would I! [They save each other.. their sweet aren’t they!] One more pull!!
Call me crazy guys – but that is a huge line from Amanda don’t you think? and.. we can’t even see her face when she says it!!! We see this:
I think this has been rewritten post production! Hmm!!! It’s in the script though.. Hmm maybe KJ did a boo boo…
You know what we can thank our lucky stars about? yes this whole selling women thing is disgusting.. but check out this little exchange in the script ( thank goodness it never made it on screen or I would have thrown something at my tv!) In the script only:
Amanda: Lee, I don’t want to be somebody’s slave.
Lee: Ohhh it’s not so bad, you get to travel.
Amanda: Lee!!
Lee: I’m kidding!! sometimes you use humour to ease the tension [Hmmm I don’t think Lee defines ‘humour’ the same way we do here!! Ewwwww]
Amanda: well, it didn’t work.
THANKGOODNESS!!!!! that never made it on air – I am surprised that was even written.. appalling!!! I am really happy we didn’t see Lee make such a disgusting Joke! – Feel a bit better about the slavery plot now? ( it could have been alot worse! )
Anyway, back to what we did get! We hear a baddie off camera: Hey! what’s going on in there? he opens the door.. and ta da!!! the pipe magically gives way at that moment spraying him with burning steam straight in the face as he walks in.. whoa! looks like the boat is on Lee and Amanda’s side
Lee chooses his moments to resolve things huh! And.. he is a man of few words!! (I guess there is nothing like being kidnapped to help you organise your thoughts and priorities!) Why didn’t the creeps tie up or drug Amanda?[err not that I would wish that on her] hmm.. oh of course! silly me- how else could she escape .
The logic here is all wrong though.. If Amanda wasn’t with the agency, she still would have been in this situation – because the agency had nothing to do with it- the creeps saw her at a charity event and then wanted to sell her, that is nothing to do with the agency! Soooo really being with the agency keeps Amanda alive! Know what I mean? It kept Dotty alive in Fearless Dotty too! it wasn’t the agency that got them into it. it was the agency that got them out of it!
LOL.. I don’t really get the whole finding your way around the ship thing.. the smoke is not that thick and the ship isn’t that big.. but Lee depending on Amanda to find his way out? Ok! I’ll go with that!
Amanda: there’s a step up be careful!
Lee: Owwwww!!!
Amanda: Oh you found it.. -haaa!!!!
Amanda heads directly to her purse and finds the sock still in it- she immediately hands it to Lee. Lee finds the microdot inside it still- hurray!
Lee: alright, here it is. Now you put that some place where it will be safe. Lee hands Amanda back the microdot!
Amanda: right. Amanda nods… and pulls out a mystery locket to put it in! What luck she happened to be wearing it for once that day!
Lee sees what she’s doing: Good!
Amanda: ha! close to my heart!
Lee: Yeah! Nice touch!
They both smile here.. awh!!! the look Lee gives Amanda here as she is focused on fitting the microdot in the locket is very meaningful..(and swoonworthy!) I love it! In one look he says: man.. I’m so glad you’re here with me!! AWH!!! What a contrast to his behaviour at the start of this episode!!
Hey! Wait a minute!! Lee gave Amanda the microdot back- for safe keeping??!!! Well, sometimes Lee speaks more with his actions.. and that is a huge statement he makes by doing that! That is so great!!! Way to go Lee!!!! With his actions, he shows Amanda- he knows she is capable- and he trusts her- awh!!!
Lee tries to find keys to his manacles but there too many keys to try so he keeps them on.. as they look for a radio Lee wonders where Sinclair is ( did Lee see Sinclair? How does he know Sinclair is involved? Maybe he saw him lead Amanda away at the mansion.. Hmm..) Anyway, they get sprung by Kurtz and an axe! argh!! Lee and Amanda split up, Amanda heads to the CB radio to call the agency and Lee fights Kurtz…Lee throws everything he can at Kurtz and that axe- lots of yellow flowers died in the making of this scene!
Billy answers the radio? too funny!! [I love how Amanda appears to be shocked that Billy actually answered too!
] Billy just does everything doesn’t he!!
Billy: Melrose here! ( what not Lancer anymore?!)
Amanda: Sir! It’s Amanda!
she whispers: we have the microdot sir!
Billy: where are you?
Amanda: On a boat (LOL!)
Billy: what’s the name of the boat? [We see Francine in the background listening in- ROFL!! Looks like her little playdate with Rollo produced nothing but nausea! ]
Billy armed with the name of the boat, says they are on their way! What Billy personally? nah.. he’s the big boss.. right?
Lee returns to find out Billy is on the way .. and Slimey Sinclair surprises them at gunpoint..and brags they’ll both be dead and he’ll be long gone before ‘they’ arrive. (LOL- just who does Sinclair think is coming? the good taste police? he doesn’t know about the agency or the microdot.. Hmm I guess he assumes it is the ordinary police!) While Sinclair turns to look at Lee, Amanda swings her trusty handbag and knocks Sinclair off his balance.. way to go Amanda! What a woman! You can almost hear her thinking – take that you creep!!! Don’t ever touch my skin again!!!!
Whooooo! flap flap…Lee the birdman reappears
bounding off the boat and tackling Sinclair before he has a chance to shoot!! Take that Sinclair! (that’s the funniest leap yet! )
Wow. Just two punches with Lee’s shackles and Sinclair is out cold.. very satisfying! Now that is a double scuzzball bozo!!! Job well done Lee!!! Thanks Lee!! It’s for the children!!! The children thank you Lee!!!! Their smiles will thank you Lee!! wahahahahahaa!!!
With all the baddies knocked out cold by Lee, Amanda and Lee exchange a look.. all is under control now! phew!
Lee looks at his manacles and holds them up saying to Amanda: These came in handy!
Amanda gives a look – uhhhh huuhhh!!! baaaad joke!!! but she’s glad he’s alright!
From the looks of him. I don’t think he realised the pun this time- until Amanda reacted that way!
Well.. I shall finish up there.. we are in the home stretch now.. one more post to go!!! Hope you have enjoyed the ride!! How fabulous to see Amanda take an active role in bringing done the badguys!!!
I always wondered why Lee gave the microdot to Amanda to hold, especially since he blames her for losing it! Why not put the dot in the sock in his pocket?
Also, after they get the sock/dot, why didn’t they get off the boat???

it’s been a long time since I looked at this ep. I remember thinking it was lovely that Lee gave the microdot back to Amanda for safeguarding, as I took it as a lovely demonstration of his faith in her – after a pretty rocky episode where it was tested.
LOL I don’t know why they didn’t get off the boat. tee heee… Ummmmmm
-iwsod attempts mental gymnastics-
maybe they were guarding the crime scene and protecting evidence?
[ouch. that somersault kinda hurt! Next time I’ll aim to do some mental stretches first! haaaaa.. ]

As Lee and Amanda are working together to bring the pipe down, Donny and Marie were singing “It Takes Two” (in my head, of course). Snort.

My main reaction through these final scenes was, “Why don’t you just get OFF THE DAMNED BOAT!” Instead they dawdle in the cabin with the microdot exchange, then Lee sends Amanda to the bridge to find a radio – seems like they might have found a pay phone on the dock, WHICH THE SHIP WAS TIED TO. Oh, well. Gotta give Lee his 10 minutes of Action Man footage, I guess.
Wonder what they’re going to tell poor Gail when they rouse her from her stupor?

I love the scene with them hanging on the pipe. For all the obvious reasons but also because it reminds me of yet another scene in the film Top Secret. Val Kilmers character and his love interest are having a heart to heart whilst parachuting down together and they twist and turn to face one another just like Amanda does to Lee. Wish I could find a YouTube link for it but I can’t 😦
Anyway I like the imagery that alone Lee cannot break the pipe but together as a team they can 😀
Love the line “I’m chained to a pipe do I look alright?!” Love the humour especially in such an angsty episode 🙂

Jenbo–LOL, yes to the Top Secret parachute scene reference! (That’s now at least three Top Secret recalls. Maybe that’s where SMK got the baddie phone from too. 😀 ) I love that movie…

LOL the enormous phone that the Nazi General picks up?! Haaaa I’d forgotten about that! Silly and cheesy movie but so many parallels to SMK love it 🙂

Not just the General’s enormous phone, but yes.
Oh–and I swear the SMK baddies took notes from the TS baddies in the fight scenes–ROFL! The SMK baddies are as bad at hitting their target as the TS ones are. (Too bad Lee couldn’t have taken on a baddie at noughts and crosses (tic-tac-toe). 😀 )
TS classic fight clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBuAfIjsFVk
And if anyone wants to see the General’s giant baddie phone, it’s near the end of this trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y-YHw1sqjL8

Flying squirrel. . LOL I usually just refer to him as “Leaping Lee”. Lee does like to tackle his opponents that way.
The fact that Lee chooses to address Amanda’s resignation while trying to escape shows how much the arguement/discussion bothered him. He didn’t want to wait until they were safe. He wanted to talk about it as soon as possible.

Lol – well, for one thing, I never got the ‘handy’ joke till just then…. but all the little things you point out are so fun to read. 😀

Awww – we start off with my favorite scene and the conclusion to my little Lee insight for this episode. In Lee’s mind, Amanda is in danger because of her association with the agency. The fact that these men were going to sell Amanda forces him to realize that her friendship (and her being there for him) definitely has some meaning for him both professionally and personally. He doesn’t know the extent of his feelings yet, just that he has them. Her growth and abilities have to be recognized, and he knows it now. However, his white-knight heart can’t stop from wanting to be the one who saves her, so he has to encourage her resignation. The ultimate save of Amanda is to keep her away from the bad guys all together.
She’s had time to realize that she works at the agency because she believes in what it does. It’s not just about Lee anymore. However, she also realizes that together they are a great team, and he needs her. She knows he is thinking of her best interest, so she pulls the “white-knight” card to let him know that she trusts him to be there when she’s in trouble.
I think Lee held her resignation up because he wanted to come back to their discussion/argument after the assignment was over. The scene with the pipe clarifies the whole issue, and he is free to let her know he values her as a part of the agency. The “partner” and handshake to come (jumping ahead again) reinforce the fact that she has grown and he is ready to accept her as a part of his world (the agency). He’ll still struggle with the responsibility thing because it’s a part of his personality, but he will allow her growth and encourage it even more as their relationship moves forward – both professionally and personally.

Hi Julia – glad I am not the only one addicted to this blog! If you ever want to do a blog post let me know 😉 I am glad you are here! 🙂 thanks also for sharing a couple of the things you enjoyed from the post – I always love to hear which specific things people enjoy – everyone is so different and different things tickle different people’s funny bones!! 🙂
Hi other Julia 😉 haa! great to hear from you!! yes!!! Season 4 is on it’s way.. It doesn’t seem real!! Oh I would love to hear what was new to you- if you would have the time to share.. but otherwise it is still fabulous (and very encouraging!) to hear from you! 🙂
Ann! ‘ Flying squirrel’??? ROFLMAO!!! that is hilarious! I love it!!! can I call Lee the flying squirrel in future? rather than the birdman?? after all he is code named scarecrow 😉 so he doesn’t have an easy relationship with birds 😉
I wasn’t sure what happened in the doorway there.. so I left it out.. I had jabbered on enough! 🙂 so glad you brought it up! yeah Amanda punching Sinclair’s lights out would have been very satisfying.. but.. Seeing Lee do it was satisfying enough for me, and more believable 😉
Hi Christy, yes Lee does look too good for what he has been through.. he should be dusty and all rumpled.. and I do enjoy rumpled Lee.. tee heee.. 😉 oh well.. I can enjoy heroic still lookin good Lee too 😉
Hi Debilyn! yeah good point.. that is the focus of it all – Lee’s realisation of what Amanda means to him, personally and professionally 🙂 I am not sure Lee is in love with Amanda at this point (and I’d say this is everyone’s own judgement call..and there is plenty of room for different interpretations 🙂 ) but IMHO there is at least no question he is realising she is very important to him!!!!! squeeee!! I commented on this in the final post – if you have time to read and respond I would love to hear what you think of my comments on where they are at after this episode.(but if not no worries!).
Debilyn ‘ it’s not just about Lee anymore’- awesome!!! 🙂 well put!!
Yes I agree with you Debilyn, regarding why Lee intercepted the resignation.. haaaa yes it is hard not to jump ahead I know! 🙂 indeed.. the partner, and handshake is huge!!! and one reason I view this episode as a turning point in the whole show.. just huge! Thanks for sharing your thoughts Debilyn!
byeee!

Lee looks awfully good considering he has been thrown from the top of a van into the dust, manhandled unconscious to the boat and chained to a pipe. His suit is still perfect when he and Amanda find the microdot etc…. (Of course when does Lee not look good 😉 ) LOL!!!!!

One thing I noticed that I didn’t notice the first time: after Amanda hits Sinclair with her handbag, she makes to go out of the door first but Lee takes hold of her and pulls her behind him protectively in an ‘oh Amanda’ kind of way, then does his flying squirrel act. I thought they were both so cute. Nobody can say Amanda doesn’t have guts but did she really think she could beat up Sinclair by herself? (Not that I wouldn’t have loved to see her try, though because what a grade-A creepy slimy rapist creep he is)
