Lee, Yuri and Amanda rush to the Odessa funeral homes to stop the baddies.. Lee tells Amanda to stay in the car! and at the first sign of trouble ‘ you know what to do’ – err go in after him? tee hee.. I am guessing he means call for back up?? but.. who would she call when operation possum is in effect? Oh I know.. she should scream!
Yuri and Lee make their way into the funeral home in stealth mode! ( what no black jumpsuit? whaaaaaa!!!)
Room by room they search the place ( err well Lee opens the door and pops his head in to look – LOL!)
Narrowing down to the last room, this room they decide to burst into?! ohhh and it just happens to be the room full of
bomb making equipment and a gagged Billy – hidden in a coffin! Creepy!! [I think they should had Lee hear Billy coughing in the coffin..
] I love how as they untie Billy, Yuri is still holding his gun aimed at Billy with one hand.. while he unties with the other – great gun safety! Not!!
Hooray! I like how Lee tells Billy Amanda told them about Kreschenko and the bomb.. Lee fills Billy in on how Yuri is working with them, and Billy fills in Lee – the bomb is set to go off that day, at Arlington National Cemetery, during a ceremony where the president and cabinet members will be present! Oh No!!! Lee explains that Francine has notified the white house – and a condition four has been announced or whatever they do! Billy declares that detonation is due to occur 30 minutes from now!!!! Time to get moving!
We see Kreschenko has the coffin (with the bomb inside) in place at the cemetary.. Barkhov is with him.. Kreschenko gives Barkhov a little pep talk.. and Barkhov is
looking forward to getting to the airport (how big does he think this bomb is?? will flights still be happening after a nuclear bomb goes off? LOL!!! He must be a bit dim!!! Even if Kreschenko fails to mention this is a suicide mission! they get in their funeral home limo and drive off..
We see Amanda’s station wagon pull into the cemetery.
Whoo Lee is driving now.. things are really getting serious! Yuri notes that the cemetery is immense how will they find them? weeeeelll firstly: Amanda is really lucky! 😉 and secondly, weren’t they putting the bomb at the ceremony the president was going to attend? I don’t know! Anyway, it doesn’t get that far.. they pass the Odessa funeral home limo..
Well done Amanda pointing it out!!! Aren’t you glad she came along??!! the editing is a bit weird, it’s almost like they pass the limo twice – magic!!!
well.. just in case they didn’t see them the first time How Amanda saw it I don’t even know – because I can’t find where it is identified as the Odessa Funeral home hearse! Lee does a nifty turn ( is that a bootlegger??? !! ) H0ld on Everybody! It’s car chase time! Only on SMK is it between a hearse and a stationwagon! yeee haaa! While the cars are racing away we hear Billy tell Lee: 12 minutes to detonation scarecrow! We better nail this guy quick!
Kreschenko tries to throw a grenade at the stationwagon – oh ROFL! Yuri goes to lean out the window specifically telling Lee to keep the car steady-he is going to take out Kreschenko – so immediately, it cuts to a wideshot of the stationwagon swerving between all the traffic which suddenly magically appears around them! LOL! Lee!!! I think they let the work experience boy edit this sequence
Oh hey! Look at this pic above – err where’s Amanda??!!
Yuri shoots Kreschenko.. who dies and drops the grenade in the hearse.. yeahhhhhh that didn’t work out the way Kreschenko planned.. I mean why not just distract Lee and Yuri till the bomb went off? LOL! oh well.. Barkhov sees the grenade is about to go off and he dives out of the hearse..
This baddie they capture is sooo tough! He jumps out of a moving car… refuses to speak.. but then..
Baddie Barkhov: a suicide???? Alright! Come on!! I’ll show you!!
whooo he was a tough nut to crack!!! A very tough interrogation! hehehhee [Or as Lee would say: it was brutal!
] whooo I love how here in the sun you can see Lee’s gorgeous tie and all the embossed pattern. love that tie! ( Love who’s wearing that tie.. ) Wait a minute – Billy tells Barkhov: you idiot! You really don’t know do you? You along with millions of people are gonna die in 15 minutes if you don’t talk. [Before Billy said 12 minutes.. err Billy can’t count.. err maybe someone else should err keep track of err when this bomb is suppose to go off?! 😉 ]
They make their way to the bomb..
Barkhov explains he helped Ulanovsky with the assembly.. so he knows it can be disarmed.. Wait a minute! Soooo this guy assisted in building the bomb- he can tell Lee how to dismantle it???.. I’ve got a better idea – why doesn’t he dismantle it? weird!! ROFL!!! I guess only Lee can be the hero here!!!
Poor Lee, he fidgets with his fingers.. clearly nervous..
he asks Billy for a hand with the screws.. following Barkhov’s instructions, this goes on for a while.. getting closer and closer to the inner workings.. At one point- Lee and Yuri must work as a team, co-ordinating the timing as they both remove one cylinder each- in perfect tandem- same speed..and same time..
Lee and Yuri share a look.. and then go for it: this is very symbolic don’t you think?! America and Russia in perfect synchronisation, working together to keep world peace!! I like it’s message!
Uh oh! .. there is a surprise for Barkhov – Kreschenko has added some extra wires! whoooo!!!
Amanda: what do the wires do?
Barkhov: three wires, all connected to the fissionable material. One will disarm it, the other two will-
Yuri: -will detonate it.
Billy: 30 seconds scarecrow! [Not helping!!!! Is it just me or is this hilarious? Billy is Lee’s boss! and he is hurrying Lee here to make a decision??!!! ROFLMAO!!!! Ohh that is just priceless! yes don’t go make a decision there Billy! ]
Lee confused: I.. errr.. ( he is frozen in place)
Amanda: I think you should pull the blue wire!….
I think you ought to pull the blue one
Billy: 15, 14
Amanda at the same time: I think you ought to pull the blue wire.
Billy: 13, 12, 11, 10
Amanda at the same time: I think you should really pull the blue wire, give it a good tug!
Billy: 7, 6…
Amanda: tug that blue wire.
Billy: 5, 4, 3
Amanda at the same time: there give it a good old tug…
Billy: two, one.
Lee pulls out the Blue wire –
Everyone is silent, frozen in place –Amanda
gives stunned Billy a side glance.. Barkhov takes off his glasses in an adrenaline fuelled awkward way.. Lee
waits to see if anything explodes!.. Those few seconds after the blue wire came out?? Would have felt like slow motion! you know- how everyone’s speech is slurred?! Lee looks at Yuri.. still stunned..
Amanda claps her hand and yells: whoo hoo!!
Haaa haa haa!!!
Amanda joins Lee on the ground and slaps his arm, he laughs with her. Amanda: haa you did it!
Isn’t it adorable watching these guys so openly happy??!!! Ahhh this is memorable smk stuff : the blue wire- love it! Amanda was determined that if she was going to die, she would die talking.. that’s for sure..
Billy joins in the laughing with one of his big barotone laughs – which are fabulous (!!) , then Yuri joins in too
Barkhov? He’s just in shock at what he almost did to the world.. oh no wait. he knew what he was doing.. he’s just upset that he almost died and that he is not going to be catching that plane like he thought. Rot Barkhov!!
Amanda: see, I knew you could do it!
Lee: whooo!
…Amanda, How did you know?
[I love the tone of voice Lee uses when asking this! very cute!!! Like: okay come on!! just how did you do that?!]
Amanda: Oh you know when the dishwasher at home’s broken…
I just jiggle the blue wire…. 😆
ROFL!! At this, Lee turns silent stops smiling
and looks at Amanda stunned by her explanation, while Amanda looks up at Billy
– That’s how you knew??? Because of your dishwasher?? Her temperamental dishwasher just saved us all from a big boom-boom?! -Yep! love that Mad Magazine spoof of ‘Scaredcrow and Mrs Kling’!! I’ll stick ‘big boom-boom’ in any chance I get!
Do you now it? this is the frame I am referring to here:(thanks Charley!)
Focus iwsod.. Here’s where we and Amanda really reap the rewards of our (and Amanda’s!) patience with Lee!!!
Amanda: it is, it’s always the blue wire!
Then Lee bursts into laughter, shaking his head at her
and he gathers up Amanda into a big swoonworthy hug. Lee envelopes Amanda with his sheer joy at her having guessed the right wire! Hooray!!
Isn’t it fabulous that this is definitely Lee hugging Amanda??!!! He initiates it!!!!! 🙂
When Lee shakes his head at Amanda in amazement: this (again!) reminds me of Burn Out!!! In Burn out, Lee shakes his head at Amanda in their big ‘moment’ when Lee realises how amazing she is –only he adds the words to go with this gesture!! Awhh!! More foreshadowing!!! Love it!! And lots of good stuff to look forward to!!
Have we seen any other hugs so far? Oh wait.. we saw one after Lee’s cabin blue up (get it?!) okay.. Blew up in A Class Act.
I love this hug!! There is the hug in Remembrance of things past – actually this moment reminds me of that: they hugged in sheer joy of discovering Lee is alive!!! Just like here!! Celebrating life!! Hooray!!! Any other hugs? Hey – someone who is good at numbers should keep a tally or something! 🙂
Hey, I thought Amanda gave the dishwasher a good kick.. but I am very happy that she upgraded that to a bit of wire jiggling..
Okay.. one more pic of this very special, swoony moment.. I’ve been hanging in there for this!!!
You know, Amanda was the only one to snap out of it and call a colour.. and thank goodness she did! Poor Lee – for a moment it was like he was left all alone with this decision.. everyone was frozen – including his boss!!!!! Aie!!! but Lee had to act- world peace depended on it! It was Amanda who came through for him- like she always does when he needs her Awh!! – not just because she guessed the right colour, but because she picked a colour at all! 🙂
[speaking of colour, apologies if the pics are not okay – I wasn’t happy with the colour..but did the best I could- ugh!! wish I could upgrade to NASA quality! ]
Share the joy smk fans!!! tell us what you think!! Any insights? what’s your favourite part of this sequence here?? anything you agree with? or disagree with? Has anyone had a run in with a blue wire?! I’ll be back to finish up this very enjoyable episode soon!!!!!!
Can I just say its a bloody good job Amanda isn’t colour blind LMBO things could have ended very differently otherwise 😉
I confess I couldn’t grasp the point of chasing the bad guys in the hearse. With 15….no wait 12…..oh hell not a lot of time to spare I would be looking for the bomb. Does anyone know if that’s actually Arlington Cemetery?
The bomb dismantling scene. Veeeeeeeery tense, sweaty palm moment. Love how Amanda is surreptitiously suggesting the blue wire, as though she has no authority to suggest it LOL she got it right though 😀
And boy oh boy that hug was well deserved, such joy and celebration in that hug for each other *swoon*

I wondered that too. I can only guess because maybe the cemetery is so big it would take all twelve minutes to find it?

Any electricians out there? Whenever I think about the blue wire and how memorable that scene is, it always makes me think there must be a strong element of truth behind the blue wire statement, regardless of how humorously it’s presented. Shows have to keep in mind that, while they are fiction (oh, sorry, am I allowed to say that about SMK? it seems sacreligious! 😉 ), people do take what they say as having an element of truth. To give bad information about wiring could have unintended fallout among amateur “electricians” and ambitious do-it-yourselfers! Sorry if that thought seems sort of random, but it hits me everytime I hear someone quoting “it’s always the blue wire”!

I’m not really an electrician but I know a bit about the wire colors since I watched my uncle doing such stuff several times (and I’m a curious girl ^^). The color of the wires has a special meaning but it depends if you have DC (direct-current/cocurrent flow) or AC (alternating current)… I hope that are the right terms, it’s what the dictionary spit out…
With DC red wire means (+) and blue means (-).
With AC blue is the neutral wire… now anybody out there who knows what this means? *laughing* It seems like it really is an important wire, so maybe Amanda was just right saying “It’s always the blue one” 😀

Hi Raffie and Charley – I’m thrilled to see it’s not just me wondering about how these wires work 😉 Thanks for the useful info Charley!! I don’t think I’ll be jiggling any wires anytime soon though 😉 Unless world peace depends on it!

For God’s sake! Take the blue one then!!!
Oh wait… in the moview “Juggernaut” it was the red wire and not the blue one… 😀

Such a good question about the wires. I found a site on Google that states the blue wire (in the U.S.A.) is a switch wire. For instance, if you have a light switch or a fan the on/off switch is attached to the blue wire. So if that is the case, Amanda jiggling the blue wire makes total sense.

Love the cementry scene…Amanda helping Lee decide, Lee in disbelief when he found out that she based it on her dishwasher, then that wonderful hug 🙂

Lee looks like he gives really awesome hugs. Just saying.

Absolutely love this scene — a chase between a hearse and a station wagon (even without the “hold it steady” and the extreme swerving and the magic traffic). Has me laughing everytime!
In Barhkov’s defense, I thought he was under the impression that the bomb would go off the next day AFTER he was on the plane.
Love the blue wire (it is always the blue wire). We were watching one of the Ice Age movies, the ferret-like creature named Bucky had to save Manny and Diego from a giant venus flytrap and had to cut a red or blue wire. Of course the blue wire saved the day.
The final scene was awesome — you make an excellent point that Amanda was the only one to step up and take responsibility for the fate of the world.
I love the mad magazine spoof of SMK – I had the original, unfortunately my mother had gone on an insane cleaning spree and I lost most of my memorabilia. If I recall, they also touch on how Lee knows or is connected to everyone.

Hi Cindy! Poor Barky! I accused him of being dim and evil.. when he’s just evil! 🙂
Would this be your favourite smk car chase Cindy? I have to say mine is ( well technically not a car chase) Lee vs the bulldozer in You only die twice.. the bulldozer moves at about 5 kms an hour.. so it’s a bit hard to work up the terror you know what I mean?!
Did they cut the blue wire in Lethal Weapon 2?? when the bomb went off because they cut the wrong one?
here is a link to ‘ The wire dilemma trope!‘ – very interesting!! [though sadly no mention of this scene- booooooo! ]
Cindy how is your computer going? hope all better! :)… your mother threw out the mad spoof? Ouch!!!
Charley did you write to Petra to request she host it? She can only say no.. it’s worth a try! 🙂 Petra may want to do it..
There was a blogger who was hosting it over on yuku.. but I don’t want to link to it without her permission.. [I’ll send her an email and ask.. no idea if she will answer but worth a try- it was years ago!] But! if you go to yuku and search mad magazine spoof, the thread should come up and you can follow the link..
Yes the problem with the blue wire gag is – you are not usually with people who get it: so you can seem a little nuts laughing at their dilemma ( or maybe have them looking as confused as Francine is in the upcoming tag! 🙂 )
Awh Charley! glad to see you also got a kick at Lee being the one to initiate the hug!
Is everybody away on holidays at this time of year? It is summer holidays here in Australia… and I am leaving to go housesit and holiday for two weeks tomorrow -soooo I expect posts will keep coming, but at a slower speed 🙂

Yeah, considering Barky was perfectly fine with his precious Svetlana being blown up — what a putz! Maybe he was holding a grudge because she wouldn’t go out with him.
I’ll get back to you on favourite car chases 🙂

This scene really cracks me up… Just Amanda can come up with such an idea in this very moment… who else would stand in front of a nuclear bomb knowing it will explode in a few seconds and say “Oh well… could be each of the three wires… just take the blue one… the last time I had to repair my dishwasher it was a problem with the blue wire… ” This is (our) unique Amanda! 😀
I remember that some days ago a friend of mine was having problems with his stereo unit. I just had watched this episode and so I told him unintentionally “It’s always the blue wire, just jiggle it a bit…”. He even checked the wires, telling me that there was no blue one… I nearly died laughing back then… X-D
But back to what’s important now. LOOOOOOVE the hugging scene! I mean LEE (!) initiates it AND he means it! AAAAAaaaaaaaa *sigh and watching again… and again…* 🙂
I’m glad you liked the Mad Magazine spoof, IWSOD! Big Boom-Boom, definetely! 😉 Anybody else who hasn’t seen it but is interested in it? *broad hint* 😉

I thought the spoof was well done, obviously the writer(s) were familiar with the show. I was tempted to buy the magazine from e-bay (take that, Mom!), but having it online has is a good enough compromise (for now!). Now, to find the Remington Steele spoof online…..

Oh drat I forgot to email and ask about that link – please remind me if I don’t mention it – my brain is currently like sieve – I have caught a summer flu- ugh!!! right when I started my holiday.. double ugh!!
They did a remington steele one too? I’d love to see that! though because I don’t know RS as well as SMK I wouldn’t get half the jokes – MAD is so detailed in it’s jokes- it takes the trouble to get to know the show it is spoofing very well 🙂
Byeee and hope you are all well!
