It seems to be the next day, and Lee and Amanda are back in Billy’s office. Francine (aka happy hooker) has joined them for a cuppa.

Francine: I did my happy hooker number on the muscle at the Potomac Plaza, the last thing they wanted to do was talk…

[Hey it’s the next day – she must have been working her happy hooker angle all night long? or why would she still be in that happy hooker outfit?!
Ah in case you want to cry – ‘it’s one of her ‘normal’ outfits!!’

…Anyway the woman left the hotel at 605 this morning under heavy guard.
(As Francine plants herself on the edge of Billy’s desk, we see Billy, Lee and Amanda are taking a look at a set of photos-what I don’t know. I guess the woman and her muscle leaving?)

It’s this photo we saw in Flight to Freedom – Lee (pretty boy) and his old mate Bart Stoller!!! whahahahaa!!!

We saw it HERE where one of the baddies had this picture and said the photo was taken in Angola with Stoller ‘last year at the US embassy’
I think Francine didn’t do her happy hooker routine, she got in a time machine and went back to a year or so ago in Angola! whoooo.. LOL. Okay okay.. I guess they could also be suppose to be the photos Lee took from the balcony..(from the waterproof and impact proof spy camera) but Francine taking photos in Angola is more fun!]

[Ummm Lee and Amanda witnessed her getting drugged without her knowledge! I think she has a right to know! A cover story could be provided to somehow cover the investigation.. but.. whatev. I’m transfixed by that photograph in Lee’s hand – I really want to get a good look at it!]

Billy holds this photo in THIS SCENE in J.Edgar’s ghost.. and it’s Nick Cross – booooooo to Nick Cross! Just how did he get mixed up with Krutiev, Martinet and Maria? Winking smile  This is getting complicated! Gee, maybe he knows Castille?! whahahaaa]

Lee continues (to Amanda): … I’ll introduce you to Ernie the Camera.

You guys notice- Lee opens the door for Amanda!! Smile We can see the photo Amanda is holding here but it’s rather dark so not easy to see.

At the risk of having more in common with Mr Ernie the Camera than I would like (eek)… I found this photo Amanda is holding.. Honestly.. it was completely by accident when I was hunting for the previous photo!

It’s Mr Tuttletowne outside and under surveillance picking up his Chinese food with extra crispy MSG.

All these reused photos tells me this episode can’t be before Wrong Number, J.Edgar’s ghost, or Flight to Freedom. LOL not that I was thinking any of those were possibly after this episode, but maybe someone was! (heck, maybe you still are thinking that: and that would be cool!)

Time for Amanda to be introduced to Ernie.
[LOL I guess we may have discussed Ernie at length the first time we saw him in the walk (a few posts earlier).
A quirky character.. very smk.. but he could have been so much more quirky! What will Amanda make of him?!]

Anyway, Ernie is reviewing tapes of photos again, holding a picture of Maria, on the balcony with Tony.

What’s your fave pic in Ernie’s gallery? I’m thinking Francine is way too comfortable walking around dressed like a happy hooker in the workplace. She should have changed out of that outfit – not sure what that means about her character! This blog post is a long one! I might wait an extra day before publishing the next post..

  3. Sooo, this is Francine’s “happy hooker” look – LOL. It is a very low-cut dress for the office. Since she’s worn it before (great catch, iwsod!), this must be her designated go-to outfit when she’s acting the upscale hooker in contrast to street walker.

    Hahaha – that coffee machine looks so ancient!

    I like Francine, always have, but it bugs me how she says and uses her body language when she says, “…and the last thing they wanted to do was talk.” Come on, Francine! Why do you have to say this! She must be insecure about her love life. Maybe that means she doesn’t have much of one? Is she jealous of what she is seeing with Lee and Amanda? Francine really is an interesting character. When the walk is over, I will like exploring her character more in-depth.

    Oh my gosh! Those photos they are using and your commentary, iwsod, are hysterical!!! I’m beginning to think this is more like an episode of Dr. Who than SMK. Or maybe all the SMK baddies are inbred or belong to their own League of Doom and live together in their very own fortress when they’re not out on an evil mission.

  4. I like how comfortable Amanda and Lee have gotten with one another and how they have no problem with being in each other’s personal space. It looks as if Amanda’s right shoulder is touching Lee. Fortunately Francine is otherwise occupied.

    I’m okay that Ernie was a one episode character. We’ve had several new IFF characters this season that have been one shots. So glad that Leatherneck stuck around.

  5. I am new to this site and am currently reading previous posts to catch up with everyone else going on the ‘Walk’. Already my hard work is paying off… I think that I can answer one of iwsod’s questions. “Nice strings” comes from the episode Welcome to America Mr Brand (I am still learning the ep abbreviations).
    I am excited to be along on the journey and can’t wait to find out what happens next.

  6. Ernie is too cool, an early version of the ‘Computer Nerds’ or whatever they are called these days that you find in so many crime shows. But, what I liked was that after he was done with his super photo talent(in an earlier scene) he popped in a Road Runner cartoon, that cracked me up!

  7. this doesnt strike me as a “happy hooker” outfit, like it’s too “modest” I guess? Also this outfit looks pink to me, wasnt the one she was wearing when she was chatting up Bentix in FFFT red? IDK … it might be my eyes playing tricks on me.

    2. Despite the way they refer to it by using the famous book title, I don’t think Francine is really intended to play a hooker when she’s doing these field items. She’s supposed to be more like party girl on the trawl in a town of “powerful” men who she can tease info out of by appealing to their ego. So she’s straddling the line between escort and young cougar. 🙂

      That velour would definitely be just the right kind of material to get men to want out and touch it but she’s actually pretty covered up except for the cleavage – and if I had MS’s cleavage, I’d be showing it off too. Also, despite everything else that’s wrong with what’s going in here with hair and makeup – is it crazy that I think that colour really suits her?

I think Francine plays a high class “hooker”, so she would need to dress in a manner that she could fit into high society places and events, but advertise by wearing a red dress (i.e. to show she is a scarlet woman) that she is offering, ahem, extra features and benefits to any gentleman who might be desirous of her company. 😉

  8. ROFL about Maria’s single ear-ring photo. Poor Caroline Smith probably forked out some of her hard-earned cash for a beautiful publicity photo back in the late 70s….only to realise her one ear-ring had fallen off on the way to the shoot. (You are brilliant at spotting these things, Iwsod)

      In MvC’s defense, during the 1980’s most women would remove an earring to talk comfortably on the phone handsets used back then. I know I did and sometimes forgot to put it back on. Us gals were pretty good at mentioning it to each other so we could dash back to our desk and not look foolish leaving the office. That’s maybe not so common a practice with the slimmer, lighter weight phones these days.

  9. I seem to remember reading that at some point, MS took on doing her own hair because the styles inflicted on her by the SMK stylists were getting so hideous. I think this scene may have been the tipping point for her. I never thought I’d say she looked quite refined as the happy hooker in FFFT, but she did compared to this set of scenes. Poor MS….

    1. She’s wearing what we used to call a “banana comb” in her hair.I had one back in the day during my unfortunate experiment of growing my hair long. Bigly mistake! Just as well mullets were in fashion at the time, because that’s what I had! 😯
      Lee’s tie looks crumpled. Love his jacket though – very styley and well fitted.

    And aren’t you glad that none of those pictures were the ones of Allen Chamberlain? I wonder what Lee would have done if he saw that one again now? Or Amanda for that matter.
    And someone needs to write the fan fiction for what happened after the wonderful hug and this scene the next day. I assume they put Mischa in the limo and drove back to DC. Maybe Lee and Amanda didn’t have anytime alone to talk… or hug… or… I guess they have to solve the case first.

    And, Iwsod, you crack me up with your suggestion that you could be Ernie. LOL I love it 🙂

  12. It’s possible that since Francine apparently stayed at the hotel to watch Maria check out at 6:05, perhaps she’s come straight from there without changing. (I’m assuming she keeps the hooker gear at the office for when she needs to go in the field quickly so her regular clothes would be at the office.) Also, if you wanted to play good cop, naughty cop while you’re interrogating Mischa, this sure would be just the outfit for that… “We have ways of making you talk…”
