It’s tag time!! Back to IFF and the Q Bureau. Amanda is on the phone.
Amanda (on phone): That’s terrific Sally, I know you’ll be happy. (Lee comes in)
Amanda: Well, I don’t – You never know, maybe someday…
(pause) Okay…
…Say hello to Carmine for us. All right. Buh-bye. (hangs up phone)
Lee (sits on side of Amanda’s desk): Who’s that? Sally?
Amanda: Yeah, you know, Carmine’s been working all day with the Army engineers on the Omega Triad System.
Lee: I think the judge might take that into consideration at his trial.
Amanda: Hope so, he’s got a lot to look forward to.
Lee: Why?
Amanda: He asked Sally to marry him.
Lee (grinning): No.
Amanda: Mm-hm.
Lee: When’s the big day?
[Wait wait wait.. did Sally actually say yes?! I mean. Tee hee.. for me Carmine is no catch! Sally is the catch! ]
Amanda: They haven’t set a date, they’re going to take it one step at a time. (Amanda doesn’t look up)
[Typical Carmine. ask her to marry him, but don’t set a date. LOL I know I’m so mean to Carmine!]
(Hearing this, Lee is thoughtful a moment, taking in Amanda)
Lee: Well, you never know. Maybe one day…
(Lee gives Amanda a sideways sneaky look)
Amanda: What?
Lee: That’s what you said on the phone. [Whoooo Lee is sooooo attentive I love it!
Is he wearing his kissing tie?! With the lips??!! lol I don’t think so.. but in the close up it looks like it! ]
Amanda: Oh yeah. (smiles) Well, ahh she asked me if I thought I’d ever get married again and I said “You never know, maybe someday.”
[Amanda is such a strong woman. She manages to give an answer while keeping it casual and keeping herself composed.]
Lee reacts..
(Lee winks at her.)
[I’ll do a wink gif.. winks always look funny in still images!]
Lee quickly leans in for a kiss…
closer..
closer..
closer..
– but Billy walks into the Q-Bureau. Gah! They pull apart.
[CINDY: Of course Billy walks in. GRRRR!]
[ROFL how Amanda immediately goes to act like she is writing something.]
Billy: We have a meeting at the White House. Where’s the report?
(Lee [Mr Professional] rummages around in the bookcase for the report.)
Lee: Uh, it’s right here, Billy. Just relax for a second.
Amanda: Yeah second one under.
Lee: Yeah, right here
(Lee hands report to Billy.. Lee moves to leave the office following Billy.)
[Almost like he is trying to usher Billy out of the office so Billy can’t address his suspicion he walked in on something.. Both Lee and Amanda trying to act casual.]
Amanda: See you later!
(Lee gives Amanda a last look as he heads out the door.)
(He lets out an audible sigh)
[I think Amanda would have heard that! I swear this is ‘It’s in the Sighs’! ]
[I think this sigh is a – ‘I wanted that kiss.. and I wanted to finish this conversation!’ what do you think?]
Lee closes the door giving Amanda a last little sly smile.
Amanda looks up slyly smiling to herself also.. [what’s she thinking folks?!]
Amanda looks up and chuckles to herself..
[Ahhhh she is one happy woman!!!
Is that two zebra on her desk?!]
And the episode ends.
What a way to leave things!!! Swoony!!!
Talk of marriage?! Amanda is open to marriage?! Lee also seems to be open to exploring marriage no??!!!! Squeeeeeee… Is marriage on Lee’s mind??!! I’m left with the vibe that this conversation is by no means finished!!!!
Okay if it’s thanks to Carmine that we get Lee and Amanda actually talking about marriage – then I like him. haaaaa..
For me, this episode has a couple of cute moments, but overall it’s pretty slow moving and seemed full of lots of filler.. and not the good (Lee and Amanda in love type). So I’m really sorry that this episode went so long on JWWM!
But.. this tag does leave me with warm fuzzy feelings about this ep. LOL!
Thanks again to Cindy for her transcription – and for sharing some comments along the way – it’s been lots of fun!!! Anyone else transcribing dialogue – feel free to do the same if you like!
Sooooo do tell! what do you all think of this tag? Of this episode as a whole?
Okay, this is just a comment about my comment. I just noticed as I posted the last comment that it listed in the web address that it was comment number 45,494 on this site. I’m not sure if that’s been notated anywhere, but I think that’s a pretty impressive number. Hope you all are well!! Congrats, Iwsod on the new job!!

Hi Valerie – very observant! I didn’t know the number showed up in the address!
I’m blown away by how many people have joined in the fun here at JWWM but I confess it is not 45,494 comments.
This is the number of comments including those which are spam or not approved. But – the true number to me is still thrilling to see 🙂
This comment of mine is the 26,989th comment that has been published on JWWM 🙂

I agree that the tag was probably the best thing about this episode. It fits nicely with that stroll where Lee makes the comment about a little romance complicating things.
I’m not as much bothered by this missed kiss as I was by others, seeing where they are now as a couple. This tag could be titled Unfinished Business. It is nice to see Lee so relaxed about a marriage discussion. He was so uncomfortable about the whole concept before.
I think of the whole Eva situation as a glitch and a lack of understanding and experiencing what true love is and can be. He indicated that lack of understanding when he asked Amanda about knowing when something is truly over. Lee was inexperienced about any kind of love relationship, whether it was love between two people, the love of friendship, or family love. Amanda has been able to show him that whole spectrum (even the downside in how she has handled her divorce) and he has been embracing all those aspects.
Poor Sally, I hope she’s not going to become another enabler to Carmine’s immaturity. She already seemed a bit overprotective of him.

The tag is by far the best thing of this episode, it’s cute and promising and they have definitely set the stage for a proposal, if not a wedding — in fact after this I’d be disappointed if they wouldn’t follow up on it 😉 But it’s nice that the thought of marriage is so obviously on Lee’s mind as well, given that he acted like the forever bachelor until he met Amanda… (I’m just gonna erase the whole Eva debacle from my mind -> shudder).

This is very cute 🙂
I do love it when Amanda knows things that Lee doesn’t know and she gets that mischievous secret glint in her eye. I can imagine that those watching this episode must have been gagging to see what would happen in the next episode.
I have always enjoyed this episode in a low key kind of way. Since I spend a lot of time at a university, I enjoy the backstory and I like the balloons. However, Carmine up close has really put me off it. I really don’t know why Sally accepts him. He just comes across as needing to do a lot of growing up. Heaven help them survive the rigours of married life! But this just highlights how much more mature Lee and Amanda (and their relationship) are

I think Lee was definitely feeling out Amanda as to her interest in marriage partly because it’s unlikely he has forgotten her “forever cured” comment about marriage in FFFT. With his wink, it may be the first time that Lee has let on to Amanda that perhaps his interest in marriage has been piqued too. No wonder she has is absolutely glowing, with a huge smile on her face, as Lee regretfully walks out the door.

Absolutely the most encouraging chink in Lee’s armor thus far. Hope springs eternal!

Probably the best thing about this episode is the tag, honestly. We’re definitely in one of those pendulum swings where they are torn between the comic silliness that was so enjoyable in S1 and S2 and the desire to do something more with the spy work when real world 1980s was filled with news stories about the Iran-Contra Affair, the war in Afghanistan (although it was the Russians fighting it then) and the general worries about bio warfare starting to rise. They did a very poor job with Carmine, unable to decide if he was man or boy, but I did enjoy his world-weary parents.
They had definitely seen the risks of having your leads become romantic on other series, and this tag is a pretty good effort at keeping the romantic tension simmering, with both of them obviously enjoying it. Still, it could have done with a LOT more cute stuff!

This may have been a “meh” episode, but the commentary here has had me rolling! Thanks for getting us through it.

Seconded. Even with the most boring episode you can rely on the great commentary to make it worth your while.

Yeah, the episode definitely had potential, but just went all “meh”. I wonder when Sally and Carmine get married, will they still go to his parents house to do the laundry? Point for man-baby Carmine – at least he was doing his own laundry. Oh wow – I hope he was not having his mom do it.

I’m thinking that Sally did all the laundry while simultaneously cooking and writing journal articles, and Carmine blew up balloons on the couch…. 😦

The Episode as a whole was so so. But, like Always it was fun watching Amanda and Lee(Shirt Collar Up) in action. The Tag was fine and makes note of all the sweet things like Lee is in Love, and Amanda is left there with what looks like to me Dreams of Kissing Lee and all that Romance stuff.
