We pick up this episode the morning after the casino. We see Conrad again all business, he gets out of a Limo and has a meet with a diamond buyer – Who complains Conrad was late.. ok.. we got it.. Conrad is late! All this is suppose to add to the suspicion Conrad is the mongoose I suppose..
Whooo back to another iconic London location- Trafalgar Square.. how beautiful!!
Love Lee the busker!! I love this disguise!!! Totally unrecognisable as the boyfriend
with the perfect hair
Is that really him playing? I thought he was left handed.. anyway.. Lee has the guitar case open in
the background there near the fountain and is roaming around strumming his guitar looking moody, cool and hairy.. Is it just me or does Amanda look like she is trying not to giggle when Lee comes up in front of her strumming the guitar? That outfit Amanda is wearing, she wears that in the legend of das geisterschloss.. I guess she bought it here in London first huh.. [ that confirms their order]
Lee: You okay?
Amanda: Yes. I’ve never seen Trafalgar Square before. I would’ve hoped I could move around a little.
Lee: Move around: he may kill ya.
Amanda: Weeeellll, there’s a lot to see from here, too.
I guess meeting Amanda today was Connie’s way of trying to speak to her without the mongoose knowing he had set up the meet.. Anyway, it seems they have been waiting for ages.. Keaton approaches Lee to suggest they call things off..It’s almost noon, so Lee agrees.. I don’t think anyone would be fooled that all these people don’t know each other.. Keaton even talks into his walkie talkie ( talkie collar in the other jacket? drat!!)
Some shots in this episode are just constructed beautifully aren’t they!! Lee here in front of the fountain looks gorgeous!! ( Lee looks gorgeous, and the shot itself looks gorgeous ;)It’s like the director really loves London 🙂
Lee heads over to Amanda to fill her in on the end of the operation.. [Lee opens this scene asking if Amanda is alright, and now this next line? why this is positively gushing Lee
nice to see a hint of attentiveness!]
Lee: What’s the matter, your feet hurt?
Amanda: Oh, no, just a little. It’s these new shoes. I should have worn my old ones.
Lee: Are you sure Conrad said ten o’clock?
Amanda: Yes. But he’s not always the most punctual person.
Lee: Yeah, well, he’s almost two hours late now. [Ouch! Amanda stood there for two hours in those new heels? why didn’t she get to sit down??!! Connie didn’t say wait for me standing at Trafalgar square!! weird!!]
Amanda: He used to have an old pocket watch that his grandfather gave him. do you suppose he still has it?
Lee: Oh, that question is certainly uppermost in my mind right now. [ I agree Lee.. ]
Amanda: Lee, it’s very important because that watch ran slow and Connie was always late for everything.
Lee: Amanda, I have known this man to plan a kill when he had less than ten seconds for the hit. Now he’s playing with us again. [Err it screams Connie is a goose not the mongoose?]
Amanda: Ohhh. [yep, don’t argue with Lee.. he ain’t listening!!]
Lee: All right, look, I’m going to give Billy a call, give him an update. He’s going to be absolutely thrilled with this. [Amanda shifts her weight, wincing because her feet hurt]
Amanda: Well, look, do you mind if I do some shopping?
Lee: No, I don’t mind. With your money.
Amanda: Oh!
[Like: of course!]
Lee: While you’re out, can you pick me up some doulon doux Camembert cheese for me, it’s at Harrods
Amanda: Oh, not at all.
Lee: All right.
Amanda: Haa With your money.
Whahaha!!
Go Amanda!
Love Lee’s half groan/chuckle at Amanda’s response here.. shaking his head.. she got you good Lee!! ( I think
she deserves a tip for having to smell the stuff too!) – Bet Harrods was happy for another plug. Lee takes out a wad of cash and slaps the note into her hand.. LOL! 😆
Amanda: One more.
[Lee slaps another note into her outstretched hand]
Better give me another. [Love how playful she is.. I think she would have said another
another until he said no!
] Lee glares at her and places one more in her hand. Amanda just grins
away
and then we see haaa Lee has a small grin too
he just can’t help himself tee heee..
Amanda: See you later, Bob! Amanda walks off while saying this-Ha! Lee watches her go.. then turns and walks off in the opposite direction, stopping after a moment to glance behind him again at departing Amanda – whoo hoo.
Not only does Lee turn to watch her leave, but.. he is in such a tizz he leaves his guitar case over at the fountain How bummed is he going to be later when he realises he lost 2 hours of busking money, got squeezed by Amanda and now has a guitar with no case LOL!
We see Amanda leave and that Conrad was waiting for his chance – and he follows her shopping.. ( guess we are suppose to be scared for Amanda here huh.. Oh nooes! The mongoose is following Amanda! )
Another joke the smk writers are revisiting from season one!! Lee and his smelly cheese!! Remember in ACM kid- when all Amanda finds in Lee’s fridge is smelly cheese.. remember?
Lee: Just what the hell do you call that incredibly expensive Camembert?
Amanda: Moldy.
Ahhh they have come a way since then! So much danger, excitement and intrigue!!!
Well! getting back to this episode.. and it’s time to plug Harrods a few more times..
We see Amanda exiting Harrods.. whoo baguettes too.. were you planning a picnic there Amanda
Amanda walks down the street( she only has a bag of food there.. where are her shoes?) Love how we see Amanda take out the wheel of camembert and smell it, quickly putting it back in the bag while making a noise to say eww that smells!
Amanda’s walking very fast.. maybe she is wearing her new shoes! Still Connie catches up to her saying: That stuff stinks.
Amanda: Hi con—Conrad!!!
Conrad: Hi Amanda… he looks happy to see her!
Amanda asks Conrad why he was late, and he pulls out an old pocket watch.. asking Amanda if she remembers it.. whoo this is interesting! She says sure! and – she adjusts his tie I hadn’t noticed she did it here! I think that means Amanda has genuine affection for the guy..
When Amanda says ‘ Same old Conrad. ‘
and Conrad replies: Not quite. I always turn up late. It keeps the opposition off guard. But it’s not the watch. I had that fixed. – An old lady on a bicycle rides past looking back at them, sticky beaking and she actually rings her bell at them! ROFL!!! I don’t think that was planned!! tee hee..
Ok.. blah blahh.. we are suppose to think Connie is the mongoose here.. it’s not quite the same watching when you know it’s not the case – that’s when you start to notice fiesty extras on bicycles! Still, I guess all this tough guy act of Connie’s just makes it that much funnier when he gives up the act so dramatically!! Connie suggests they go for a drink, grabs her
arms and steers her away from pesky old ladies with a bell to ring.. Uh oh Amanda’s not sure this is a good idea..
I will finish up there with this post.. and be back with more when I can hope all you guys are well and enjoying the episode! Let me know you are out there reading! Say Hi!! Share the smk fun!! Any feedback, questions or comments?? I’d love to hear them!!! byee for now!

I can never get past the fact that Amanda complains about her new shoes hurting in this scene and then sets off to walk (or so it would appear) halfway across town to Harrods…

Totally random thought….I wonder if Amanda is shopping with her blackjack winnings??

Didn’t she leave all her chips on the table? We never saw her gather them up or put them in her evening bag or cash them in. Since Lee most likely gave her some chips, perhaps she just thought of them as “monopoly money?”

You are correct we never saw her cash them in. Maybe after Lee gets semi-strangled and she knows he’s ok, she goes back up to cash out? Maybe not. Just a random thought. 😁

This looks like a pretty good private club (as it would have to be to be running a casino in London) so I suspect it is full of rich people who simply walk away from the table and expect the casino to simply collect up the winnings and credit their account.
Assuming they did that, that does add some pizzazz to the “With your money” exchange because it implies a) Lee is still annoyed she did so well at blackjack and b) Amanda knows it’s bugging him and is enjoying herself hugely.

Never been in a private club, but crediting their accounts works for me. Even better is the brilliant pizzazz you bring to a very annoyed Lee being the source of Amanda’s enjoyment.

I’m glad that you all talked about this. I had wondered about the chips many times myself. Janet thanks for that explanation. I will go with it. I like the idea that she actually won that money and got to keep it!!

Yes! Clagjanet- love thinking that their little “with your money” exchange is a furtherance of the casino winnings and banter! Love it!

I have to say, I do love BuskerLee, but I don’t think he’s going to make much money with those guitar skills.
Do you think that Lee gave input into which clothes Amanda bought when they went shopping? Because she is looking so sharp in that blue and the back drape of the white dress is just stunning. Lee always has liked her in white. 😍

Did anybody notice that Connie is dressed just like Lee was at the beginning of this episode. KC, it even looks like he borrowed Lee’s tie? And then Connie changes his clothes when he actually does meet with Amanda later that day. Sometimes I wonder if they weren’t trying to highlight a little competition between Lee and Conrad? Just a little.

I liked his hippy look…it was so totally opposite from the normally “GQ” Lee…thought he was kinda cute and sexy with that rugged look….Oh well I guess that says alot for my taste.ROTFL

Is this the first time Amanda’s seen Lee in disguise (apart from his waiter outfit in the first episode)? I like her playfulness with him in these scenes – I think she thinks he looks (and sounds!) ridiculous, and she gets a kick out of it. The exchange about who’s money she’ll be spending is a little curious – has this issue been raised before?

Um, yeah, a year later, but I always assumed that at this point, Lee has and expense account and Amanda doesn’t? She’s always typing up his reports which include expense accounts and doesn’t she ask Billy if the agency can repair her car at one point (damaged in the line of duty I’m sure). I’m thinking Lee has a better chance of getting her trip to Harrod’s expensed than she does… but love the “one more” flirting – it’s so natural between them and it has that married vibe Lee’s so clueless about.

I love beardy Lee 😀
As for his guitar playing aside from his awful strumming maybe he does play right handed. As a lefty myself back in the day life was less accommodating for us. I remember having guitar lessons at school and they refused to restring the guitar for me. In hindsight I am glad, made me more ambidextrous 🙂
KJ looks really pretty in that blue/white shirt suit. Very swish 🙂
It made me laugh how the obvious copper in a trench coat called off the wait with his not so well hidden walkie talkie and then half the people in Trafalgar Square walked off at the same time LOL nothing like giving yourself away.
Nice little exchange between Lee and Amanda over the money, dying to know how much he handed over, Harrods isn’t cheap!!
It tickled me with the cyclist ringing her bell at Conrad and Amanda because they’re standing in the road. I’ve been shouted at before now by irate cyclists only hardly any use a bell these days LOL

I enjoy how Amanda keeps greeting Conrad with a smile and a cheery voice. She really doesn’t think he’s the mongoose. Though she does hesitate a bit when he pulls out the gun, she’s determined to think the best of him. Amanda really IS the cheerleader – she encourages people and makes them feel better. Lee enjoys this about her, and I think he’s just beginning to admit her good qualities to himself. (And doesn’t want to share them with any other guy. lol)

I noticed when I rewatched this, that Lee took off the mustache as he was leaving the square.

Right! None too swift for our superspy. If Conrad/Mongoose was watching, they’d peg him for sure. Although, him standing next to the copper with the walkie-talkie coming out of his trenchcoat already had his cover blown. 🙂

I am amazed, you really think he is looking anything but horrible??? Different than the boyfriend with the perfect hair for sure, and I can understand he must (although usually this does not seem to be a consideration, but maybe to humor the collaborating foreign agents?), but I can not like it.

Oh, I think he looks about as bad as he can. The disguise in “The Three Faces of Emily” is marginally worse.

Hi Everyone!

Julia, yeah I don’t find grungy Lee horrible 😉 YMMV! It’s not a favourite either.. ( I especially like the sunglasses though)..
These are horrible: (IMO!)
Stuff of nightmares!! (but I love them because they are hilarious!!!)

-I see Redgold loves this look too 😉 (haa kidding!!!) tee heee!
For me, compared to these.. Lee’s Bob looks ok! 🙂
Debilyn– so true! Lee can’t help but be won over by Amanda’s sunny disposition and generous, gracious manner towards – everyone 🙂

IWSOD, I hesitate to admit it, but dirty-hairy (heehee, a pun) Lee in that pic you posted cannot possibly attain repulsion simply on the basis of those drop-dead gorgeous eyes. I’d still run away with that man on a dime (sorry, Hubby).

I’ve always wondered if the moldy/stinky cheese running joke stems from either someone on the writing staff or maybe Bruce (or someone else) liking stinky cheese. It’s just so funny.
I love seeing Amanda giving Lee a hard time about the money. She’s flirting and teasing … it’s great. Even though Amanda is in love with Lee at this point she isn’t mooning or worshipping him.
I don’t know if Brad Pitt was inspired by Lee’s disguise here… but while it was funny as a disguise… it’s not a good look for a real person LOL.

I have to disagree…I really don’t believe that Amanda is in love with Lee yet…cares deeply for him as a friend but, I definately believe that she is in love with him by the end of this season.

Hi, IWSOD! I, too, thought that Lee might be able to play the guitar better if he had re-strung it for a left-handed person and played it that way. Maybe he doesn’t mind leaving the case because it doesn’t have any money in it! Does anyone else wonder if Brad Pitt was inspired by Lee’s appearance here when Pitt was deciding on a scruffy “look” for himself? So funny that Amanda calls Lee “Bob” and Lee mutters “Bob?” afterward, as if he’s trying to figure out what she means. (Bob Dylan, perhaps?) And I wonder how many times in SMK as a whole Lee asks Amanda if she’s all right. Even new shoes prompt this question!

I have a feeling BB was playing guitar right-handed because he’d sound about the same right or left! With Connie running so late, I wonder whether anyone got fed up hearing that same little riff he kept strumming over and over and finally took whatever change was in the case and threw it at him. I just don’t think musical talent can be included among the many talents of Lee Stetson.

Hi guys!!! As always it is just lovely to hear from you!! Hope you are enjoying this episode.. I am! I find it is just a wonderful episode to look at 🙂
Redgold – you must be right.. I am sure Brad Pitt would look at our Lee in awe and take his inspiration.. he would be mad not too 🙂 Although I think Lee’s beard was pretty short.. unlike Mr Pitts which can run amok!
I assumed Lee left the case because it was too clunky for him to go over pack up and leave.. this way it looks more cool 😉 but I like to add to the interpretation that he was so distracted by Amanda that’s why he forgot it 😉
Although, it becomes more clear why Lee didn’t pick up the case in the next installment..
Yes someone on the SMK staff was a Bob Dylan fan for sure!! ‘ Times they are a changin’ (the next episode!) is a Bob Dylan song.. Bill Froehlich and Mark Lisson are both credited on the writing staff both episodes. Maybe one of them is a fan.. not sure if there are other Bob references- we’ll have to keep our eyes out for them!
[they did the same thing with WC Fields in season 3.. which we’ll get to eventually :)]
How many times does Lee ask Amanda if she’s alright? Lol! there’s a project for you redgold 🙂
Hello Allofakind! Glad to see you here again 🙂 The stinky cheese gag is great huh! I don’t know, yeah it would be fun to find out where it came from!
Maybe from now on, if we see something we don’t like: we could say it is a doulon doux camembert!!! LOL!!! It stinks!! 🙂
Flirty Amanda is a sight to behold – go girl!! you think Amanda is in love at this point? Man.. we need a post on that! come on guys I really mean it- if someone would like to write this post to get the ball rolling let me know – Me? I am going to stay on course with the episodes, now I have started my studies again I don’t have time to do extra sorry 😦 darn real life.. it’s a doulon doux camembert!! 😉 )
Haaa! I kinda like the scruffy, edgy Lee 🙂 Yeah Paula you are probably correct – left/ right it didn’t matter.. so they probably also just went with what looked best in the shot.. I love the idea that Lee is in disguise and really bad at something.. but exposing this fact for the sake of the case, and protecting Amanda 🙂 If Lee was great at everything- that would be boring!!! Yeaahhhh!! Lee has other..ahem.. talents 🙂 I can get my music elsewhere ! 😉
