Time to hear from the baddies! Rackam is checking up on crazy eyes from earlier, his name is 
Gretz…
Rackam: Did our cargo get loaded all right?
Gretz: None of the crew suspect anything. Our transfer point still San Angelo?
Sure is! And whatever ‘it’ is will be safe until they arrive in San Angelo.. [I think San Angelo is made up for SMK.. only San Angelo I can find is in Texas! Anyone??]
Rackam: We’ve got a couple of nosey passengers on board. This Stetson guy and his girl, they’re asking a lot of questions. [His girl? ]
Gretz: He the one that got the telegram?
Rackam: Mm-hm. When I steamed it open, you couldn’t make heads or tails out of what it said.
[whooo here’s that thing with the ‘code’ again! It seemed to be pretty clear English to me! they just don’t know what ship of spies means- but- whatever it does mean: it doesn’t make Lee and Amanda seem like regular folks on their wedding ceremony cruise! Bad agency for sending that telegram like that!!]
Gretz: You think it was in code?
Rackam: You can bet on it. They may be the ones Orlando was trying to contact. We’re getting paid a lot of money to pull this thing off, Gretz. I’d hate for them to mess it up for us. [Ahhh so they are not idealistic insurgents, just your regular greedy bloodsuckers!]
Gretz: And if they’re not the happy couple they’re cracked up to be?
Rackam: Then we may have to arrange an accident.
Gretz: Then we’ll have to keep our eyes on them.
Rackam: I’ve got something better than that.
[Rackam holds up a bug.]
Rackam: We’ll keep our ears on them.
At this, we cut to an exterior close up on the Mardi Gras.. Seems Cruise Director Rackam is the boss and brains of this little operation.. Can you imagine Carnival Cruise lines watching this episode? Here is two members of their crew chasing down a guest (Orlando) – killing him? well we don’t know his fate yet.. but they are also: illegally transporting something, spying on two guests, threatening to arrange an accident for their guests AND (!!) the cruise director is wearing pirate eyeshadow and eyeliner! Their ship is being portrayed as the Ship of Lies and Spies. I think they would have been okay with ‘ship of guys’ – they should have gone with your idea Cindy ! 
Brilliant!! But.. I guess Carnival dubbed this episode the Ship of Cries!! Poor Carnival!
On the outdoor deck.. we find the serial smoochers from cabin C-24 are still kissing away.. while they are suppose to be playing a 
game of some kind.. [looks the people they are playing keep on playing anyway! ] Lee and Amanda pass them, Amanda doesn’t even notice – she is so caught up in solving the puzzle, but Lee smiles quietly to himself and can’t resist pointing them out to Amanda: Looks like it’s going to be a long game.
Amanda: Lee, maybe Orlando’s clue was trying to tell us what was hidden and not where it was hidden.
Huh? how do they know something is hidden???? But Lee isn’t convinced.. and well, neither is Amanda.. too many possibilities for what the C could be that is hidden! [Or what K could be hidden if you are watching in German-LOL! Thanks for pointing that out Claudia!!]
You know, I think they should have made the kissing couple bad guys. Or fellow good guys – from Customs or something LOL! But agents of some kind: Though maybe them sleeping together while Lee is in the closet is too OTT! It could have been cool to see how Lee and Amanda reacted when they found out all that kissing was just them ‘playing their cover’ 
Plus! They are in cabin C-24 : C-24 being mentioned in the telegram.. so they could have intentionally booked that cabin.. oh well! We still get a cute little line from Lee here about the long game!
Lee continues: No, I don’t think Orlando would be that vague [He was!] unless he was in bad trouble [He was/is!].
…I just wish the hell I knew what he did mean.
[you don’t know what it means because it’s vague! I don’t know what you mean! ]
Amanda: Was he a good friend? [Such an Amanda question! I love it! but ‘Was’?? past tense?? uh oh! 😉 ]
Lee: Mmm, he was one of the best. He saved my life once in Haiti. Port-au-Prince. (WAS??? Lee takes a deep breath). Yeahhh…
It’s kinda scary how many people have saved Lee’s life over the years.. but .. it is lovely to hear he consideres Orlando a good friend because he has saved his life: Amanda has too – multiple times!! So Amanda must be a very very good friend!
At this moment.. Lee spots Myles coming out of a doorway..
Lee (through gritted teeth): Oh, no. Look who’s coming.
Amanda agrees.. Uh oh!!
They turn to leave but it’s too late, it’s obvious he has seen them and they’ve seen him- doh!
Love how Amanda turns back first.. then Lee- so true to character!
Gee anyone would think Myles is following you I think this is a hint: they are indeed ‘keeping an eye’ on Lee and Amanda.. [The script calls him Miles- oopsie.. I’ll start spelling it correctly ]
Miles: Oh, there’s my two lovebirds.
Miles: How about a little smooch for the folks back home?
Amanda quickly looks at Lee..
[together] Lee: Ahhh!… Amanda: Ohh , Uhhh…
Then.. Lee looks at Amanda
(and licks his lips!!!)
Miles: Oh, come on! Animate it up a little bit. You only 
get engaged once. [Miles, Mr 4 marriages knows that’s not true oh and this is Amanda’s second ] Come on!
This little moment of indecision between Lee and Amanda reminds me of the scene where Dr Hanover [another eventually revealed baddie!] assumes they are a couple in The Legend of Das Geisterschloss [another ep where Lee is trying to find an old friend in trouble 😉 ] – I know not everyone interpreted that scene the same way I did.. but for me: it was another moment like this: are we going there?? Is he okay with that? is she okay with that? They are not sure what the other is comfortable with IMHO.. In Das Geisterschloss it was: should we play the cover of being a couple? and here it is: if we play this cover couple should we be kissing?? eek! It is delicious to watch them smile away politely but internally they are squirming!!
Lee: Well, [Lee throws up his arms..as if he’s giving in.. for a second we think he is going to go for it!]…
….How about a hug instead huh?
[Amanda licks her lips here!!!!]
Amanda: Yeah!
Lee reaches out to Amanda and they side hug!
Miles: Wow, you’ve got a real Mr Warmth there Amanda. Just make sure he doesn’t get overheated!!
Rofl! The look on Lee’s face when it cuts back to him as soon as Miles says this? ROFLMAO!
It may be a cover.. but Lee’s pride is at stake here haaaaa! Amanda notices Lee is not happy at all! haaaa.. so she tries to cover for him which..
challenges Lee to come to the party even more I think! haaa!! Lee is so funny here
Amanda: ohhh he’s shy!
I think Lee would like to punch Miles in this moment..
Lee: shy?!!
Amanda: smile for the camera!
Lee obeys! and gives his biggest, cheesiest smile ever!
Miles takes their photo..
Miles: Ah! that’s a good one!
Amanda: thank you!
Lee is still wearing his fake smile.. and isn’t making eye contact with anyone for a moment.. rofl he is just too funny here.. I think he just wishes Miles would fall overboard.. enough! you got your photo now get lost!
You know what? this little scene has everything that is brilliant about SMK in it: We have humour.. we have romance.. we have sweetness.. sexual tension.. suspense and we have intrigue! This is what SMK does so well IMHO!!!
Miles: Ok, I’m gonna get these developed in the ship’s store overnight. I’ll see that you get a copy. Good?
Amanda: Good.
Miles: Okay.
Lee: Thanks, Miles. Thanks a lot.
Miles walks away, leaving Lee and Amanda to walk off with Amanda on Lee’s arm..
Miles calls out to them and Amanda turns around-
Lee is not so fast to turn back around again – LOL! it’s like Amanda grabs his arm and makes him
Miles: Oh, by the way, Jillian’s down in the card room. You two up for some pinochle?
Lee: Yeah. Maybe later, huh? 
At this Lee turns to start walking away, making it clear to Miles they’re leaving!
Miles: Okay. See you.
Amanda: Thank you.
Lee (still smiling through gritted teeth): Jerk!! 
As they exit the scene we hear Amanda say: He’s just trying to be nice.
Soooo in character for them both isn’t it?! Lee (Mr Patience and control ) thinks he’s a jerk, and Amanda thinks he is just unintentionally being annoying.. cute! )
Soooo what do you think of this scene?? Why no kiss?? Anyone not happy with no kiss?? Please feel free to share!! and if so – why?
I liked that they didn’t kiss.. I think Lee is kind of being shy here! There is a moment where you could think they are going to and then – no! I like it because it adds to the anticipation of the wedding kiss And makes that whole upcoming moment even more powerful!!

In the pics leading up to the cheesy smile, it looks like Lee isn’t even really holding Amanda at all. He just has his hands clasped together to make an opening for her to be in. Totally illustrates Miles’ comment. Lee is acting like a little boy that still thinks girls have cooties. (oops I guess that’s North American slang “a children’s term for an imaginary germ or repellent quality transmitted by obnoxious or slovenly people.”) Can’t wait for his eye opener later on…

Yes, to Raffie’s comment, the “boxy hug” could illustrate Lee’s awkwardness due to his respect for Amanda’s feelings now and his own reluctance he doesn’t know why. Especially since Amanda didn’t react to the adjoining rooms setup as he expected her to. She’ s got him off balance. Love it that she is holding him closely and also agree that it is good they didn’t kiss here and cheapen the wedding kiss.

I agree with raffie that Lee’s awkwardness about the kiss for a photo wouldn’t have existed in S1, he would have just dived right in (cover necking *snigger*) but the fact that he doesn’t shows there’s lots of stuff going on underneath which raffie has explained so well.
I love his cheesy fake grin, hilarious. You can really see how he would really like to flatten Miles. They’re not performing seals after all 😉
Am I glad they didn’t kiss? You betcha because it makes what’s coming up all the more sweeter 😀

I just wanted to add that the unknown game they are playing on board is called “shuffleboard”. It is very popular onboard ship because unlike other games that have a ball that bounces – there is little danger of losing the heavy shuffleboard puck over the railing and into the sea!

It is also popular with elderly people on land, as there is very little chance of injury unlike other active sports. It is a very safe game. I live in Florida and all the retirement communities around here are rife with shuffleboard courts. Just for everyone’s useless knowledge! 😀

I agree.. like in Playing Possum – their genuine friendship and caring are evident throughout – In an upcoming post, I wrote that regardless of the wedding – it’s clear they have real affection for each other throughout this episode! [So glad the pre Brunettes episodes are behind us!]

Interesting how in S1 Lee is okay with a cover kiss (or cover necking) …. well, okay until afterwards … but by S2 things have changed enough that Lee doesn’t want to go there. There’s a healthy respect for Amanda’s feelings here, along with a subconscious awareness of some other emotion of Lee’s own that is hovering under the surface and that he can’t quite come to terms with, doesn’t want to face. I actually think there’s a sense of a respect that comes from a deep friendship going on here as well. The days where Lee puts work over Amanda’s feelings are starting to fade.

OMH! Brilliant! Absolutely brilliant! You captured the scene so well with your screen shots. The look on Lee’s face when Amanda says he’ shy and that cheesy smile — I laugh every time I see this play out. I am so glad they didn’t kiss — IMO the scene would have lost much of its charm.

After the earlier conversation concerning secrets and relationships, to kiss here would have been too personal for either of them. This whole scene is so very tongue-in-cheek to me. They need to be a couple to keep their cover, but truly “being a couple” would be too personal at a time when they are trying to avoid getting married for their cover. And the wedding scene is a whole different level of complications for both of them (different reasons, I think.)
