11/13 Season Two, Episode 15: A Relative Situation-Scarecrow and Mrs King

Ok, we see Lee arrive at the baddie’s possible hang out.. LOL I think that’s a stunt Lee!  I swear something really weird happened with the cars in this episode!
2.15 A RELATIVE SITUATION.avi_001817117
Lee breaks into the baddie’s hang out..[Is it just me or 2.15 A RELATIVE SITUATION.avi_001830130is this a bit slow??
2.15 A RELATIVE SITUATION.avi_001834134
The whole let’s watch the maid plug in the vacuum cleaner??!! though it is funny how Lee tippy toes out of there! Winking smile whoo hooo!]
2.15 A RELATIVE SITUATION.avi_001887187
Lee enters the baddie’s office.. how do I know? well.. it’s got a baddie phone on the desk.. that phone is used by smk baddies alot! Winking smile
2.15 A RELATIVE SITUATION.avi_001936736
Lee finds that computer thingy (that’s the technical term).. how could he possibly know what it is and what button to press? Maybe he’s seen one in spyclass…
2.15 A RELATIVE SITUATION.avi_001979479
I’d be thinking it is a bomb! hehehee.. but.. it looks to me like the machine Luke is suppose to use to target the weakness in the death star Winking smile only Obi Wan Kenobi tells him to use the force!!! so he puts it away!!!
LOL.. Wouldn’t the baddies hear all that beeping Lee’s play station is making? Actually it sounds like R2D2! Winking smile (Quick Lee find the volume button first!!) I think this is great Babylon 5 training for BB!! Winking smile LOL.. he does a great job of looking convincing pressing random buttons!
Whooo here’s a close up of the baddie phone!
2.15 A RELATIVE SITUATION.avi_002001501

The baddies bust Lee walking down the hallway.. so he tries for a getaway- Love that vine tree thing that Lee slides down as the baddie pursues him.. he ends up 2.15 A RELATIVE SITUATION.avi_002065565using it like a fireman’s pole.. and stripping all the branches off it at the bottom! haaaa it looks funny for the usually 2.15 A RELATIVE SITUATION.avi_002072072graceful Lee the birdman named scarecrow Winking smile .. hey and notice how green and lush the plant is when Lee first climbs 2.15 A RELATIVE SITUATION.avi_002076576onto it and the baddie tries to grab him? then.. when he reaches the bottom – well it looks like it is a different tree in a different season with all the leaves about to fall or something! haaaa.. magic tree..
Lee is stopped in his tracks by a baddie with a gun.. and makes a lame joke.. ahhh Lee!
Lee: ha haaa.. I guess I should have called first!
2.15 A RELATIVE SITUATION.avi_002089589Oh this next line is so funny! who does this remind you of? Lee is being tied to his chair, and turns to the colonel who is tied to the chair next to him and says..
Lee: are you alright?
2.15 A RELATIVE SITUATION.avi_002106873Colonel: do I look alright?
2.15 A RELATIVE SITUATION.avi_002110610ROFL!! have we heard that before??? You bet we have!!! I love it! Lee said the practically same thing to Amanda in Brunettes are in! (when she gets lead down below the ship and finds Lee tied up?) here look!:
Lee: Am I alright? …
2.06 BRUNETTES ARE IN.avi_002435869
……I’m chained to a pipe do I look like I’m alright? !!!

Ha haaaaa… Lee and the Colonel really are alike!!! haaaa.. very well done SMK!!! Hey, the writers may not keep the age of Lee when his parents died and he moved to live with his uncle consistent?! but these little nods to character they do beautifully! Winking smile tee heee..

Also, I love how the camera pans out to find Lee is being tied up also-I don’t think the Col is impressed with his rescue! Winking smile Lee struggles to break free but the Colonel tells him not to bother.. Lee thinks he should give it a go anyway..
Lee: Sir, I might know a trick or two that you don’t.
2.15 A RELATIVE SITUATION.avi_002130130 [that about sums up these two! The col. thinks he doesn’t! Lee thinks he does!]
Col.: ha! who do you think trained you suits in the first place?
2.15 A RELATIVE SITUATION.avi_002139139
You suits? Ouchy.. that’s just mean Colonel! You’ll be eating those words!!

The  Colonel wonders how Lee came to be there.. and 2.15 A RELATIVE SITUATION.avi_002144144Lee tells him of Lt.Mauntel’s connection – the military is not so wonderful after all buddy! I like how Lee 2.15 A RELATIVE SITUATION.avi_002148148regretfully shares this news with him – he doesn’t rub it in like he could have.. by using it to defend the ‘suits’ Well done Lee.. He isn’t thinking of himself! Smile
2.15 A RELATIVE SITUATION.avi_002153653Love this line of Lee’s: Next time take a cab will ya!!
[Lee I thought you were suppose to drive him?!]

2.15 A RELATIVE SITUATION.avi_002169669Lee tells the Colonel how he found Luke Skywalker’s jamming device – and that’s what brought his squadron down.. Immediately the 2.15 A RELATIVE SITUATION.avi_002177177Colonel is as motivated as ever to get out of there and seek Justice! [Again! Reminding me of Lee in that same Brunettes are in scene – when Amanda tells him her purse is upstairs and probably still has the microdot in it – Lee is spurred on to get out of there! Smile]

Col: We’ve got to get out of here! Someone’s going to pay dearly for this!!!! Does anyone know you’re here?
2.15 A RELATIVE SITUATION.avi_002181681Lee
suddenly realises
: Yeah! Amanda does!  Smile
2.15 A RELATIVE SITUATION.avi_002186186
Col: Amanda?
Lee: Yeah!! I promised I’d call within the hour it’s got
2.15 A RELATIVE SITUATION.avi_002193693to be that right now! Look, if I don’t call she’s gonna know that there’s some trouble.
[ahhh see it’s not so bad having someone look out for 2.15 A RELATIVE SITUATION.avi_002195195ya!]
Col: Are you sure?
2.15 A RELATIVE SITUATION.avi_002198198Lee: Yeah!! I know Amanda, she’s got a good head on her shoulders. She’s very resourceful.1surprise.. what the....2.15 A RELATIVE SITUATION.avi_002199699
…Anyway…

2.15 A RELATIVE SITUATION.avi_002202202
(LOL cue the smug spy expression!!)
2.15 A RELATIVE SITUATION.avi_002202702
…I taught her everything that she knows.

1surprise.. what the....Wha?? did I just hear that?? hang on.. hang on.. I 2.15 A RELATIVE SITUATION.avi_002206206gotta replay that.. Now this is funny.. did you notice that Lee in Amanda’s absence was complimenting her?? again – just like how his uncle compliments Lee 2.15 A RELATIVE SITUATION.avi_002206706but wouldn’t tell him that himself.. [Just what is the colonel suppose to make of Lee teaching his girlfriend everything he knows?? I swear there is a scene missing in this episode!!]
No sooner has Lee bragged – yes bragged- about Amanda’s skills..  than the door opens and  Amanda is escorted in by the baddies.. rofl!! very funny, great moment..
2.15 A RELATIVE SITUATION.avi_002210710
Lee groans audibly!!!!
2.15 A RELATIVE SITUATION.avi_002212212
colonel: everything she knows huh.
2.15 A RELATIVE SITUATION.avi_002213213
Whoo! I like the colonel’s response here!! Rofl!!  A great line!! and topped off by the funniest/grumpiest look from Lee…
2.15 A RELATIVE SITUATION.avi_002214214
I think Lee is always funniest when he’s the straight 2.15 A RELATIVE SITUATION.avi_002215215guy (and credit to BB that is a very hard thing to pull off!) Yep. I think Lee wishes the ground would open up and swallow him!!

The big reveal of the big bad General Ted Patterson here at the same time as Amanda is brought in doesn’t really work- maybe it’s just me.. but I’m too busy laughing at Amanda, Lee and the Colonel to care about his big reveal! Winking smile
2.15 A RELATIVE SITUATION.avi_002218718Ted: have a seat Mrs King. [Okay how does he know her name???!!!] The baddies pick up Amanda LOL very funny! KJ is so funny with this physical humour!
2.15 A RELATIVE SITUATION.avi_002221721
2.15 A RELATIVE SITUATION.avi_002230730They plonk her in her chair.. You know, I use to think Amanda got curious and turned up.. that she’d made a mistake and followed Lee, but having read the script, I’ve changed my mind.
Lee says to Ted here: No loose ends huh.

2.15 A RELATIVE SITUATION.avi_002235735I think Lee’s referring to Amanda.. The baddies actually went to Amanda’s house and got her and brought her there (which makes sense.. given they knew where she lived!!) as Amanda was a loose end… I’m glad to have finally figured that one out! Aie!!! took me long enough!
2.15 A RELATIVE SITUATION.avi_002241741Whoooo time for Lee to explain the plot..again!..  he 2.15 A RELATIVE SITUATION.avi_002250750seems to cover old ground explaining how they jammed the flight controls.. aie! This must have been after the commerical break! Winking smile  the good friend of the colonel’s – ‘ the general’ is 2.15 A RELATIVE SITUATION.avi_002257757behind the whole thing! Ted tells ‘Bob’ to not take it so personally..ouch! it’s very personal!!!!! I think Bob is cranky because the General leaked the story to the press (you know the one about his toolbelt Winking smile )  the rat!! Still he is a very helpful rat! he tells them 2.15 A RELATIVE SITUATION.avi_002262762he has an appointment at Berkstone field. Thanks for the heads up rat! We’ll catch up with you there!! Smile And the baddies all leave Lee, the Colonel and Amanda tied to chairs.. head off.. 2.15 A RELATIVE SITUATION.avi_002304304

Soooo come on you guys!!! anyone reading? do share your thoughts!!! Was anyone else confused by Amanda showing up like I was?  Any questions? insights? I would love to hear your thoughts! byeeee!

I am loving the discussion from the original comments and also on Iwsod’s original post about Amanda’s arrival. I remember always being confused about how in the world she ended up there at that time! I mean, she had been the one to find the address, but I kept thinking it would have been well over an hour that would’ve had to have gone by in order for her to have missed a call from Lee AND driven to the address…so her being picked up by the baddies makes good sense…I guess…or maybe I’m still confused. 😂😂 Regardless, it’s a great scene and one that visually stands in my memory from many years ago. That is a unique room for the conversation between Lee, Amanda and the Colonel to have a good amount of humor. 😊

Criminals are found out by the way they splash too much cash around – you’d think someone would have noticed Ted’s palatial digs, Even for a general, this mansion is fantastically over the top – but also designed by Escher because Lee comes up the stairs, turns left and goes into that study, then when he comes out, he’s on the nearside of the stairs, and runs past the stairs again and disappears back into the same door.

And completely aside from that, is this the same staircase that Lee is standing on at the party in the first episode? I know we see that one again in “Billy’s Lost Weekend” but can;t decide if this is it again.

I have wondered the same thing about the staircase!! And I always thought this house looked a bit un-DC area from the outside, architecturally speaking.

      Like

      1. From my time living in DC in the 1980s, I can assure you that there is almost nothing off limits for architecture – thanks to overly rich people, embassies and long time politicians, believe me, it can be one weird hodge podge of over the top and often tasteless architecture! LOL

So the Colonel looks down on Lee claiming, we …

trained you suits in the first place.

Not so fast Uncle Bob! You ignored Lee’s request to take a cab to Amanda’s house. The story gets bogged down here. I was actually quite surprised Amanda didn’t call Billy Melrose and bring him up to speed.

  4. Hello! Just had to mention.. got a lovely surprise today while eating my lunch and catching a little Hart to Hart on TV! I don’t know the name of the episode.. but in it Jennifer’s having her portrait painted as a surprise for Jonathan – and the artist is murdered.. well to cut a long story short.. later in the episode, they’ve located the baddie.. so they go visit him at his home, they are shown into a very flash room and the baddie offers Jennifer and Jonathan a cup of tea while he pours himself one.. the room??? It is this very same room where Lee, Amanda and the Colonel are tied up!!!!!!!! 🙂 Hmm maybe I’ll take a picture of it when I get home.. I have season 1 & 2 on DVD- only I’m not staying at home these next three weeks.. so if I think of it I’ll get back to it.. if you have the show yourself? check it out!!! haaaaa!

  5. I agree, iwsod – that’s a stunt Lee!

And is it just me or is anyone amazed at the size of the baddie Lee encounters after he slides down the fireman’s pole? BB is 6’2” and the baddie makes him look small! No wonder he doesn’t try to get the gun away and fight him!

Geez! – I NEVER noticed the “Do I look alright?” comment from the colonel!?!?! I did notice that *wonderful* elephant foot lamp on the table next to him though. Wonder where I could get one of those – it would go perfectly in my safari room! If I had one….hahahaha! 😛

Ouch, Uncle Bob! You really have no respect for the suits, do you? Guess it’s a good think the military didn’t train housewives or you’d never get outta there!

I know it seems like the whole girlfriend pretext is dropped, but the way the colonel says “Amanda” it makes me think it hasn’t been dropped yet. Uncle Bob seems surprised at this tidbit of information.

Iwsod, I noticed another BAI parallel – Lee also gives Amanda a compliment when discussing the attempted kidnapping at Amanda’s house. Lee says how she was terrific in fighting back. Francine says something dumb about her doing a “suburban swoon” – whatever the heck that is. Is that like Cindy and Jenbo getting the vapours? 🙂

I wasn’t confused by Amanda showing up – I never gave it any thought. What confused me is how Lee just all of a sudden seemed to know the whole plot. I guess he could just be bluffing, but it sounds like he’s got it all figured out. Why are we just hearing about this now?

    Like

    1. I don’t think the girlfriend pretext was lost, maybe it was forgotten by Lee and Amanda, but I don’t think the Colonel would be aware that it was a charade, because there was no charade. Lee and Amanda have a close tender personal and professional relationship. If Lee was to have a good personal relationship with a woman she would have to know some about what he does. And because Lee is dedicated to his work, if a woman wanted to be a long term part of his life she would have to let him teach her some survival skills because she would be at risk due to her acquaintance with him. Maybe the Colonel saw the truth and Lee and Amanda are still believing the charade? “We are still not personally involved,” that charade.

    2. Yeah, I’ve noticed the size of that baddie too! Although I think the record goes to a goodie in Photo Finish, particularly if height is not the only determining factor! (No, don’t read any innuendo into that … definitely not the point!!)

I’m sure this has been mentioned before, but the suits vs military rivalry certainly makes me believe that Lee’s career choice was an act of rebellion, something which the Colonel is all too aware of. Which makes we speculate that the Colonel is perhaps very straight-laced with the ladies as well, thus Lee’s behavior would be another act of rebellion. Which brings me back to the significance of that deleted scene in Lee’s apartment …. hmmm. Maybe the subplot for this episode was more than just Lee coming to terms with his uncle’s parenting, but also Lee starting to come to terms with his acts of rebellion … and perhaps finally starting to see past them. Once again, this dawning fits very much into the image I have of the emotionally teen-aged Lee who matures slowly but surely before our eyes in S2.

      Like

      1. As much as I don’t like the deleted scene, I like your idea about Lee coming to terms with his reactive rebellion. Rebellion can only fuel behaviors for so long and it seems as if Lee is loosing his appetite for it and for some of the things that go with it. There is a scene coming up in Life of the Party that specifically makes me think this.

        Like

      2. Genius, Raffie! Love the idea of the subplot! I never really thought of Lee maturing so much as Amanda touching his heart and him slowly coming round to that touch.

There’s a big goodie in Photo Finish? I’m trying to think of him, but can’t. I’ll have to go check that out, but after I tie up one of my kids first!

        Like

        1. Ha ha ha – I am getting a mental picture of you tying up your kids – I wish I thought of that excuse when mine are running amok — but honey, I am not restraining our darling children, we are doing research!

          Like

      3. Raffie – are you talking about Tanner? The very wide man who Amanda talks to about site security? There is one scene where both his and Amanda’s profiles are in the same shot – it would take about 6 Amandas to equal 1 Tanner! He’s about Lee’s height, I think though, based on his height compared to Amanda.

        Like

        1. Yes, BJo, the name Tanner rings a bell. He is one big dude! I can never pay attention to what is being said in that scene with Amanda because I am too distracted by the difference in size between to two of them.

  6. I love this line, “I taught her everything she knows.” I wonder if the Colonel has figured out that Lee and Amanda are co-workers, and not emotionally involved.

I had never really thought about how Amanda got caught. I always assumed that she was impatient waiting for Lee to call her and showed up, but it does make a lot more sense for the baddies to have grabbed her.

And now notice that we have Lee driving an agency sedan that has enough seats for them to get to the airport.

  7. Thanks for the welcome greetings. I am so loving this blog and the comments. It’s nice to be able to chat about this show.

I love Lee’s comments and reactions in this scene. He seems pretty proud of how he has “trained” Amanda.

I think that the baddies went and got Amanda based on the “loose ends” comment and later on we see the three of them arrive at the airfield in Lee’s borrowed car. I would think if Amanda showed up in her car Lee would have sent (or at least have tried to send) her home.

That computer-gizmo-jamming-device thing looks like something that was in the V mini-series that aired about the same time as SMK. It must have been an 80s go to tech device.

Cindy, you mentioned that you hoped she turned the oven off. I’m wondering if she ever closed the door when the Colonel was first grabbed and she flagged down Lee. It’s funny to notice those things.

    Like

    1. Good catch, Valerie, her car wasn’t at the baddie”s house. Of course they went and picked her up.
And your mention of “V” is the second one for his episode (I think). I don’t know what show “V” was, never even heard of it till now.

      Like

      1. V was a mini-series turned into a tv series. Supposedly nice aliens come to Earth but are really heck bent on enslaving, impregnating and eating humans. There was really cool special effects of the alien queen eating a rat.

        1. “There was really cool special effects of the alien queen eating a rat.” LOL, Cindy! You state that so matter of factly! I’ve never seen V either, but have heard of it.

          1. Whoa! so many comments today.. so little time!!!
I’ve loved reading them all and hearing from you!
please keep your thoughts coming!! 🙂

Great to see you back with us Valerie! 🙂
Yeah I always missed the loose ends line! It wasn’t until I read the script that I realised – I wasn’t very clear, but there are a few extra lines that actually spell it out ( for dummies like me! LOL and I like to complain that SMK states the obvious sometimes! eek!!)
Oh good point about Amanda showing up in her car! I didn’t think of that.
The same gizmo was in V? no way!!! The original V, with Jane Badler or whatever her name was, is burned into my cortex.. I’ve tried to erase it.. even stared at Lester the damn duck for ages.. but no good! Peeling off her skin to reveal her scaly skin is forever in my mind now – ohhhh thanks Cindy for reminding me about the rat eating fiasco!! argh!!!! 😉

LOL.. I looked and Amanda’s front door closes by itself- I thought the same thing! haaa.. I even checked to make sure there were no cookies in the oven haaa!

Jenbo I loved your story of waiting 5 minutes to see if the game loaded properly!!! too funny and sooo true!

Julia glad to hear you are enjoying yourself! Yes smk is a lovely soothing balm for life’s troubles!! Hey I like your idea.. yes all my critics are complimenting me behind my back? that’s it!!!! Julia that is genius!! 🙂

Ohhh thanks for clearing that up Morley.. you know that would be a great idea for a post- one on Lee’s defense mechanisms! 🙂

Jeanine you’ve done it again!!! haaaa… that’s true! they can’t get to the airport in Lee’s car! sooo funny!!! so that’s why the cars are so weird in this episode! haaaa!!! Gee they really did make a rod for their own backs when they gave Lee a car that was a two-seater!! 😉

True Bjo.. the colonel does sound surprised that Amanda knows where Lee is.. I’m pretty confused about that pretense.. not that it’s very important to the plot or ruins the episode in anyway- it’s just a side issue that confuses me! Another BAI parallel??!!! brilliant!! yeah.. Lee does compliment Amanda there with the lamp to Francine – and I did feel that showed a significant shift in how Lee was starting to view her! so cool!
LOL thanks for letting me know you saw the elephant lamp too Bjo.. Oh roflmbo! you have a safari room do you? hmmm?? 😉 too funny!

Well I’ve had a big day.. my eyes are quitting on me here! I’ll try and get the final post of this episode up tomorrow (my time) so it will be another 24 hours at least.. I’m not that fussed on the tag.. it’s okay and all.. but I probably won’t cover it in detail- but the upcoming scene of Amanda and Lee tied to a chair? hoooo haaaaa!!!! 😉
            Okay bye everyone!

I watched V as a kid, aside from the red jumpsuits, an alien-come-human rubber baby and Freddy Kreuger NOT being in costume the plot eludes me LOL

            1. I watched V as a kid and actually liked it, except for the rodent eating parts. I was surprised that it became a TV show. It did have some Nazi/Holocaust undertones and it was brought up in the movie, which made it even stranger. But I like weird Sci-Fi. Oh well.

  10. I thought Lee was gonna atart playing pong on that computer 😉 as kids we had a ZX Spectrum 48K, it took over 5 mins to load a single game! Kids these days dont know the meaning of patience, try waiting 5 mins listening to a tape cassette screech like a fax machine only to discover it didnt work and you had to start all over again…….
Haaaa Lee and the Colonel are two chips off the same block 😉 Do I look alright?! Lol
Love Lee’s change from smugness to looks that could kill. Still pretty sure the compliments about Amanda still stand though 😉

I never ever considered how Amanda got captured either, the loose end comment passed me by!

    Welcome Valerie 🙂

  11. I never thought about why she showed up, I figured a hour went by and Lee didn’t call. But she would have been a loose end, wouldn’t she? I mean they took the Colonel right under her nose…

“Amanda has a good head on her shoulders, she is very resourceful,” and he would follow her blind, in the dark through a snowstorm. Wasn’t that how it went? I believe he would be able to tell Harry Thorton that about now (well after Amanda gets them out of this predicament)

And a belated welcome to Valerie! So glad you joined in the fun.
