Lee calls to Amanda as she gets herself together again after the talking to from Dotty..
Lee: Amanda?!
Amanda: Yeah.
Amanda approaches Lee and Billy again.
Oh wait.. Lee changed out of the guard’s uniform back into his jeans! Hmmm this man has his priorities right!! Haaaaa… oh wait…jeans or uniform..hmm actually that’s a toughie..
(Billy suddenly has his jacket back too!!! haaaa)
Lee: I think we’ve got it. Alright. Zorbel said “overpower”, right?
Amanda: Right.
[Amanda suddenly has her purse again and her jacket.. she took her jacket off in the elevator.. and I guess she left her purse in there too- but when the baddies left they would have used that elevator no? I think too much…
Me confused.. it’s hard to concentrate around the jeans ]
Lee: If he uses a microwave dish close to an earth station, he can overpower real satellite signals.
Amanda: Well, yeah, but how are you going to steal money like that?
Lee: Well, banks don’t move money around anymore. They move energy – electronic cash.
[Energy?? This line cracks me up every time.. it’s so lame..it’s hilarious!! and BB delivers it with such believability and authority!!! and.. the jeans look good ahem!
So did Zorbel in the opening scene tazer Aghaney with money?! tee heee
Was this an electronic funds transfer? whahahaaha..]
Billy: Canaan’s going to use the microwaves to put a lot of it into the Cyclops accounts. [That’s interesting.. wouldn’t that mean they could possibly track the $$ and find out Cyclops’ accounts? LOL I guess Cyclops would cover their tracks well]
Lee: And if we don’t stop him, it’ll be the first billion dollar bank job in history. [Him? not them?]
Amanda: Well, we’ll stop him. How are we going to stop him?
[Love that! so Amanda!!!! She’s sure they
will stop them.. even if she has no idea how yet!
]
Lee: Well, all we have to do is find their microwave dish by 9:30.
All we have to do.. I love it..
The three start walking away..
Amanda: How? It could be anywhere in the district.
Lee: Yeah. Let’s see. There are only four commercial microwave stations. They’ve got to be close to one of them.
[Four? well that doesn’t sound so bad.. You know what – I love how they never think to you know like call the banks and like tell them to halt transmissions for like you know like an hour or two!..
Surely the agency would be able to temporarily shut down a satellite and give some kind of cover story for this? – you know like ‘Francine’s in charge and she pressed the ERA button by accident.’ yes that would have done it. It certainly would have made my day to hear that! 🙂
Ohhh dear I’m rambling! sorry!]
Billy: The Agency chopper!
[Eh??? Dr Smyth said to leave the agency out of it?! I love how it’s ‘the’ agency chopper.. do they only have one??!!]
Lee: Yeah! Look, I’ll start from the phone company and work out in concentric circles.
Billy: Amanda and I will cover the street, and if you find them and flush them out, we’ll be waiting for them downstairs.
Amanda: Right.
Lee: Alright. Good luck.
Billy: Yeah.
[You can’t see Lee’s hand when he says good luck, but I think it might be on Amanda’s elbow- I picture him giving her a squeeze as he says this good luck.]
Oh swoon.. you see when they wish each other luck coming down the stairs Amanda puts her hand on Lee’s shoulder…
and Lee quickly reciprocates with a quiet little side hug Billy won’t see?? swooon!!!!!
Awhhhh you know.. for all my gripes about this ep, this is smk at it’s best – these little ‘touches’ (no pun intended!) between Lee and Amanda.. really well done!
And so begins a rather drawn out and yawn worthy 5 or 6 minutes..
A tour by air of Washington DC.. Oh well.. at least we have action man Lee Stetson as our guide.. although his commentary is not very helpful!! 😉
It’s almost like they needed to fill up some time in this episode.. I find it quite strange! I’m going to cover it all – I think the totality of this ridiculous sequence needs to be seen to be believed.. Oh smk!
We cut to a stretch Limo pulling into a car park..
Then a chopper taking off somewhere else..we hear Lee saying: Let’s get this baby in the air. We’ve got a lot of ground to cover.
Oh hey this is cool.. smk uses actual footage of a helicopter in DC – you can see the Washington Monument behind Lee.. (and the double for Lee is wearing Lee’s clothes.. not bad!)
We cut to the station wagon zooming down a freeway.. and hear Billy say: We’re on our way, Scarecrow. Let me know when you see something.
[umm how is Billy talking to Lee while in Amanda’s car?? Does Amanda have a CB radio??!!!
Oh and did Amanda go home and get her car?? cos I could have sworn they were in Lee’s car when they headed to the building in the first place!]
The timing is so confusing I don’t know what to think – it seemed outside the building while discussing their plans that it was morning and they were heading off to look for the baddies before 930am wasn’t it?? Honestly.. I give up!
That silver limo we saw earlier pulls up on a rooftop.
Can anyone see the hollywood sign in the distance? I’m still hopefully that one of these days I’ll find it!
The limo does a squeal for the camera and pulls up in front of another evil looking black high rise
with a big white satellite dish on it’s roof.. lol stands out for us nicely!
Daisy and Canaan get out.. with a couple of his henchman.. they seem to be in a bit of a rush.
Lee: We’re heading north from the beltway. We’ll check out the southwest sector first.
[We see the helicopter flying over DC.. hey does what Lee say match where the helicopter goes?]
Back to the rooftop and a baddie gets out a white portable dish/umbrella thingy.. uh oh.. that umbrella thingy is pointing at that other umbrella thingy.. stand by for microwave thingies!!! Tetra mono microwaves!!! (snigger!!)
More shots of the helicopter with Lee in it flying over DC.
DC is sooo pretty..
This time we see the Lincoln Memorial.. so lucky for us that all these dishes happen to be located in a flight path that sends us past all the picturesque DC sights!
Lee: Nah, there’s nothing suspicious-looking yet, but we’ll make a quick sweep of the southeast sector, then rendezvous with you at 16th and M.
[funny I don’t see any dishes.. just world famous sites.. isn’t Lee suppose to be looking for satellite dishes? (probably plastic ones.. for use with microwaves! ) ]
We cut to Billy’s voice and Amanda’s car.. just how does Billy do it?! Is that Georgetown they are driving around?? any locals able to dissect all this footage for your and our amusement??!!
The station wagon pulls over..
Okay.. I got curious.. I often wonder about these things and move on because of time constraints.. but this time I’ve gone exploring.. I think the old stone building is funnily enough: ‘Old Stone House’ located at 3051 M street. Here’s a panoramic pic I found of it.
Billy: Roger, (no it’s Lee!! sorry been watching flying high/airplane!) …we’ll pull over and wait for you.
Back to Daisy and Canaan on the rooftop.. Hey Canaan has put on a new suit!! –Seems this is suppose to be the next day.. though Daisy is wearing the same thing she wears the whole episode, maybe that is the Daisy uniform..
Back to Lee’s voice (
) in the helicopter as he now flies past the White House (LOL!! the scenic route!): There’s nothing much happening over here.
whooo we cut to a close up of Lee.. He reeeeeeally is on that helicopter – honest!
Lee: …Pretty quiet down here, too.
We see a view of DC from Lee’s perspective..
and then cut to Billy and Amanda in her car.
Ahhh Billy is on a radio – okaaaay.. that little antenna can pick up Lee from across town?!
Billy: Scarecrow, we’re at 16th and M. Do you read me? [are they?? anyone? Whooo well the M part fits with Old Stone house- but if I’m understanding correctly.. the 16th part doesn’t.. Anyone? ]
We cut to a close up on Lee yelling into his radio- his hair is suspiciously very still.. even with the amount of mousse Lee uses, it should be moving in that helicopter!
Lee: I got you, Billy. I’m following Mass. Avenue to Rhode Island Avenue. I can see the phone company’s dish from here. (I thought I heard Lee say the Montgomery dish but.. I don’t know!)
We see a rooftop and a dish (other than the one sitting in the helicopter!) .. yeah yeah.. get on with it already!!
Man.. quite a long winded geography lesson on Washington DC… I gotta say it goes on waaay too long.. but I am looking forward to hearing some local knowledge on this!!! I’ll pause here before we continue the getting to know Washington DC tour!
Can’t wait to hear from ya! byeee for now!
Pingback: 7/- Season Three, Episode 17: The Eyes Have It-Scarecrow and Mrs King | "Just walk with me.."
It’s only been a few days and I’ve missed three posts!! Rough week at school, winter seems to have come early, and I took a tumble down my icy porch steps…need my SMK fix.
I’ve enjoyed all the comments about the touching. It’s a wondrous thing how Lee seems to find the same exact spot at Amanda’s back. I also like how the touches seem to linger a bit.
I was thinking about the previous post and wondering what exactly Billy and Lee discussed. I wonder if Lee told Billy about his discussion with Dr. Smyth and if he explained Amanda’s involvement. I do like how Lee makes sure to include Amanda in on the discussion with Billy and what their next steps should be to bring down Cyclops.
This little trip around DC is about the point where I start to fast forward or at the very least zone out until we get to the good stuff again.

More touching…these two are definitely having a hard time keeping their hands off each other, especially after the back-to-back, er butt-to-well, you know, touch. Poor Billy doesn’t even seem to notice. But if he did, I don’t think he would think anything of it, except to knowingly smile and think to himself, maybe I finally did find him a partner. : wink: Swoon, indeed!

Well, I think Billy’s lost. The Old Stone House is on M street in Georgetown (not far from IFF), but 16th and M is north of the White House. One does have to be careful in DC since there are four quadrants of the city and addresses include the quadrant names (NW, SW, NE, SE). The Capitol is the center point. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Streets_and_highways_of_Washington,_D.C.
Lee’s going the wrong way, too, unless they’re going to sweep around the Lincoln Memorial.
Maybe all this chatter is to confuse the bad guys who may be listening in. 🙂

Oh Hooray!!! I was hoping you would be able to share with us your local knowledge LASinLA!!
Thanks so much.. I’ve always wondered!
Whahahahaha yes they intentionally got it wrong to confuse the bad guys -I love it!!!
Great to hear from ya!

What I don’t get, is why they had to “sweep” DC with the chopper. They already know there are only 4 location possibilities. Surely between the three of them they already know where they are. Why not just make a beeline to each one?

Those touches hidden from Billy and so mutual and comfortable really do make this scene. Lee and Amanda communicate so much through their touches, they always have. At this point their mutual touch reminds me of a couple that has been married for a long time and can communicate volumes to each other while in a crowd of other people with just one simple touch. Lee was probably acknowledging the undercurrent of Amanda’s difficult phone call as well as wishing each other good luck with the next step of the plan. They have done this case so far exclusively together, now they are splitting up and taking two separate courses, I think the touch was a goodbye until we can see each other again thing too.
I kind of like it that it is Amanda driving, although it would have been interesting if they had let her take the Vette, instead of going to get her car.
And I do find the tourists view of DC interesting,It sure wouldn’t take long to fly over all those parts of the Mall, there is a lot more to that city than those monuments and the White House.

Nice take on this scene, Morley. I love the idea that the touch from Lee is communicating his feelings about her difficult phone call.
As to the microwave dishes and the car radio, this episode sure reminds us of how much has changed in the world of communication in the past 30 years! The idea of a bank heist not involving a gun, and mask, and a burlap sack was very avant garde.
On a shallow note, how disappointing that Lee did not don his black jumpsuit for this helicopter ride. Perhaps that along with the uniform and the jeans would allow us to totally forgive plot holes so gaping that even I noticed them.

Oh Raffie.. the black jumpsuit? would have been amazing!!!
But jeans, a uniform and the black jumpsuit? I don’t think my heart could have taken it!
Sigh…

In the script there is a longer conversation that happens between Billy, Lee and Amanda and it all happens at Lee’s apartment of course. Having said that, the storyline here is pretty weak and even the scripted version of this discussion doesn’t really lift it out of the doldrums.
I wonder why they filmed all this outdoors when they could just have easily made the time frames (day/night) make a bit more sense by filming it at Lee’s apartment?
The script appears to suggest that Lee is flying the helicopter as well as trying to spot the “microwave dish” :
INT. CHOPPER ABOVE DC – DAY
Lee’s alone in the chopper. He glances out the window to the city below, adjusts his headset.
One thing that always makes me wonder about some of the outdoor shots in this episode is the height of the skyscrapers. The baddies are on a rooftop and there is a much higher black building next to it. I wondered about the “Cyclops building” too. Isn’t there a height restriction on buildings in DC?
I know I should just think about Lee in jeans and everything will be okay, but even Lee in jeans isn’t enough to cover the holes and inconsistencies in this script.

The “touches” as they go down the stairs are worth putting up with the silliness of this episode. This is the moment that always stick in my mind with this episode as the naturalness of it makes me think their personal time together (“dates”) have become more touchy-feely too.
I think this moment was a bit of an ad-lib by KJ and BB because KJ is in her heels again and going down stairs can be treacherous in those things! I think she put her hand on BB’s upper arm just in case she stumbled. It works on both levels for L&A – both as Amanda looking for Lee’s support and him giving it, and as a clue a to how close and easy their personal relationship is now.

That “naturalness” is something that, for me, really sticks out in this episode. I see the same thing in a lot of their interactions, in both words and body language. They’ve always had really good non-verbal communication, but I think there’s elements to it that weren’t there earlier.

Hey — don’t be dissing Lee’s SuperHot Superspy Hair! Its ability to look awesome even in hurricane force winds has saved the free world multiple times.

I like the ‘hidden from Billly’ touching. And Lee’s blue shirt. I agree, the rest is rather yawnworthy…
