Back the tux.. errr I mean the party!
Amanda continues: What did you think of the baron?
Lee: A little compulsive. [Understatement alert!!]
Amanda: He notices even the tiniest piece of lint.
Lee: Yeah.
Lee sees his target across the room! : Hold it, hold it, hold it. There he is. Matthew Hearns. (Amanda follows his
gaze and sees a grey haired, man.. The script says he looks like Marvin Hamlish! ) Look, Amanda, why don’t you get rid of the woman? [good thing Amanda didn’t have a mouth full of champagne here or I think she would have done a spit take! ]
Amanda: Get rid of the woman?
Lee: Just- get- rid of the woman.
Amanda: I’ll get rid of the woman.
Lee: Yeah .
Lee is ridiculous here.. why couldn’t he get rid of the woman! Maybe Lee figures if he went over there the woman would never leave!
And.. although maybe it is not his intention, he is giving Amanda a chance to spread her wings a bit here.. Usually Lee is telling Amanda what she can’t do.. for once he is giving her a job to do! In his own way, this means Lee has confidence in Amanda to do the job! Love Amanda’s confusion over what Lee is asking her to do! tee hee.. I do think this is one of the reasons Amanda loves to be with Lee though, he gets her to do things she wouldn’t usually do!
and at least he gives her a smile when she says she’ll get rid of the woman!
So Amanda turns, and seems to lean into Lee who is behind her for a moment, building up the courage to ‘get rid of the woman’
Ha!! She takes a deep breath ‘Come on! ‘
Lee says.. urging her on.. I love that once she starts off in that direction, Lee has a little smile to himself.. He is not so stern and mean as he would like to appear! and I think he finds Amanda’s hesitancy, and then courage – kind of endearing
I really like this moment! It says a lot about their relationship – and not just their romantic relationship – but who they are.. and how Lee spurs Amanda on to step up and go for it here – it’s not all as one sided as I sometimes think it is-(in terms of spurring on the other to break out more- Amanda tends to challenge Lee emotionally/relationally but here it’s Lee’s turn to challenge Amanda! ) It’s lovely to have a little moment of Amanda learning and growing under Lee’s tutelage- such that it is!! haa!!
So Amanda walks over, waits a moment for her chance to interrupt and says: Excusez-moi? (The woman keeps talking, ignoring Amanda- we see Lee is watching – looking
gorgeous- from across the room.. and he has a quiet little smile to himself at Amanda’s efforts) Amanda chimes in more
forcefully again: Excusez-moi?
[Ok german speakers!! what is the lady saying to him?? do tell!! ] Finally she stops talking and smiles at Amanda and says: Achtung? [eh? doesn’t that mean danger or something?! help!!]
Amanda: Hello.
Woman: Hello.
Amanda: Oh, English.
Woman: Yes.
Amanda: Well, there is a very handsome man in the hall and I think he’s looking for you.
Woman: For me?
Amanda: I think so.
Woman: Oh, how Wunderbar! [ Sucker!!]
Amanda: In the hallway, there’s a small group of people.
At this we see Lee watching them again, he lowers his head so he doesn’t make eye contact with the lady looking for her handsome man!
Woman: Thank you.
Amanda: Yes. You’re welcome. Goodbye. (The woman walks off, nodding to Lee as she passes him. Ohhh my.. Lee just flashed his dimples while smiling at the lady Amanda was to get rid off..)
Is it just me or has anyone else thought wouldn’t be hilarious if the lady mistook the handsome man in the hallway for Lee?? and then Lee had to get rid of her?! Lee begins walking over to join Amanda and Hearns.
Amanda continues: Mr. Hearns? Please forgive me, I’m such a great admirer of yours. Amanda King.
Hearns: It is my pleasure, I assure you, Amanda.
Amanda: Oh, thank you very much. (Lee clears his throat.) Oh! And, this is a friend of mine, Lee Stetson.
Hearns: How are you? Good to see you, sir. I have to tell you, it’s nice to hear American voices, and by the way, thanks for rescuing me from the Countess.
Lee: It’s always a pleasure to help a fellow American in trouble.
Hearns: Well, I appreciate it.
Amanda: Oh! Uh, well, you’re the goodwill ambassador to Europe now, aren’t you, sir?
Hearns: That’s right.
Amanda: Well, that must be wonderful.
Hearns: Well, as the song says, it’s nice work if you can get it. But unfortunately, one of the drawbacks is that there’s so much to do, so little time to do it. As a matter of fact, I have to prepare a speech for tomorrow night. So if you’ll excuse me, I’ll say goodnight to the baron.
Amanda: Certainly.
Lee: If you don’t mind my asking, just how is your schedule for tomorrow? [what a weird sounding question!! Love how Hearns acts like everyone asks him that question
–LOL! this guy is a great goodwill Ambassador always full of goodwill!]
Hearns: Well, in the morning I’m making a speech at the glockenspiel, after the puppets’ dance. [Aie!! is that clunky dialogue or what!!! tee hee..it sounds very inserted for plot purposes only- cringe!! ok ok we needed to be somehow reminded of the glockenspiel and informed Hearns will be there.. and he had to say after the puppet’s dance because he couldn’t say after the knight falls! otherwise –bing episode over! what puppet dance?? weird!!]
Amanda: Oh, my boys just love the puppets’ dance.
[what puppet dance???!!!] Do these two look cute together or what?? Just insert a swoon emoticon at the end of every sentence in this scene.. they look adorable.. and the tux.. Ohhhhh the tux.. [don’t look directly at the tux!!]
Hearns: So do I. I guess I’m still a kid at heart.
Mr Hearns continues: Well, again, many thanks. Nice to see you.
Amanda: Oh, very nice to meet you, sir, Mr Hearns.
Hearns: Mr Stetson.
Lee: Good luck.
Hearns: Thank you, sir.
Amanda: Oh, he’s a nice man, isn’t he? [me thinks Amanda and Lee are oozing I’m proud to be an American right now!! ]
Lee: Yes, yes he is. Now, look, Amanda, I want you to stay here and mingle with the crowd. I’m going
to take a look around.
Amanda: Mingle?
Lee: Yes, mingle.
(come on Amanda you can do it!!
) Amanda: All right, I’ll mingle.
Lee smiles and walks away. Oh my.. if Lee looked at me like that.. I’d mingle till the cows come home if he asked me to.. swoooon!!!
Amanda looks around. She raises her glass to someone and says: Hello.
Lee makes his way into a stairwell.. only to be caught out by Inga.. I guess they know he is up to something because he arrived with Amanda – Hmm why didn’t he think of that! and given people are trying to kill Amanda why did he leave her alone.. hang on.. I’ll just look at this pic one more time..
Ohhhhhh myyyyy!! where am I? where was I? errr what was I thinking? ohhh nevermind I’m sure it wasn’t important.. now is a good time to sign off I think! who am I? err.. byeee for now!! back with more of something ( but can’t remember what at the moment) soon! oh wait.. I know- More Lee in a tux! byeeeeee

Dimples. Tux. Haircut. That is all.
It’s the trifecta remedy to any plot-hole filled, bizarre wardrobe and hairdo saturated, rude Lee episode. 😂

Yes, Nancy, and that is why Amanda is our hero. If she can do that, she can do anything, and is certainly capable of getting rid of that woman. 😂

Lee, tux, dimples! OMG, time to swoon! And I love everyone’s observations about Lee and Amanda subtlely encouraging each other to leave their comfort zones. Isn’t that what friends and spouses do, make you stretch and grow. Enough thinking, back to your wonderful photos now….sigh

Ahh the gratuitous tux shot lmao!!! You can never have too many screen caps 😉
Anyway I love how Lee bows his head to avoid being mistaken for the handsome man but never caught his dimples when he smiled. Must go back and rewatch it now 😉
I really like your take on Lee giving Amanda a role and encouraging her to do it. Didn’t notice her lean back towards him either as she gathers her courage (me I would have just knocked back the champers and gone for Dutch courage LOL).

Excusez-moi? is French for “Excuse me”.
We now return you to your regularly schedule life, but the best part is that I can come back. . .

Oh, I know, I see it now. When Lee looks intently at Amanda and gives her directions, he’s putting her into a trance. hehe!
“Just get rid of the woman”
“I’ll get rid of the woman”
Sounds like she’s entranced to me. 😉

IWSOD, I really liked your commentary about Lee giving Amanda a job to do and Amanda learning under his influence. I hadn’t noticed that Lee is now giving Amanda tasks to do and roles to play in their work. They have a lovely way of subtly encouraging each other to branch out, don’t they? I feel for Amanda having to mingle, though. That obviously doesn’t come easily to her, especially in this unfamiliar setting.
I always thought that Amanda specifically says that the handsome man is in the hall so that she doesn’t send the woman straight to Lee.
I think that the puppets’ dance refers to the coopers (the men dressed in red) who come out after the knights joust. If I’m remembering right, there’s a tradition that the coopers danced after the plague ended, and real coopers still dance every seven years in Munich to keep the plague away. (I eavesdropped on a tour guide while she explained all this.)

Welcome back, IWSOD! These two look so cute together! It’s sad Amanda doesn’t wear a gown, but hey Lee in a tux, yeppeeee!
Countess says: Wonderfull! This caught my breath! If you only knew what I have experienced today! My eyes tearing, my blood…
And then she really says: Achtung / Attention
Maybe: Attention Mr. Hearns I must stop my big talk!

I think it’s cute how Lee smiles when Amanda mentions her boys here. And I do think it’s in response to her comment, not Matthew Hearns’. I think he enjoys the puppet’s dance, too, and the comment “still a kid at heart” rings with Lee, as well. Okay, so the dimples get to me as much as the tux. Just saying …
