Lee and Amanda head over to the cafe to sit and talk..
Lee is touching Amanda an awful lot so far in this episode huh!
Maybe he is trying to comfort her – but he isn’t wanting to say it with words??.. 
See the lady with the bag behind them? I had to laugh.. I think that is Humphrey Bogart on her shopping bag there! In Munich! (reminds me of the DOA: Delirious on Arrival scene where Amanda imagines her and Lee always remembering Arlington 
Though I am shocked it isn’t Bob Dylan! someone is slipping! )
Lee explains going home is going to be a problem, because lots of counterfeit American 20s have been showing up all over Munich. I love that their hands are so close on the table – kind of like they both subconsciously want to reach out to the other but they know they can’t! ( boy can I read something into anything or what! ) Still I like it! 
It is kind of obvious that Amanda just happened to be given the counterfeit $$- so find out where she changed her currency and then you find your bad guy.. but.. I guess as the episode progresses and things begin to happen – things will look a little more incriminating for Amanda! As I mentioned in the comments of post 2 – I wonder if Lee showing up to bail out a housewife from Arlington looks suspicious! Anyway.. Amanda tells Lee exactly what happened.. not that he asked..
Amanda: I was on my way to the airport and I decided to do a little last minute 
shopping. So I stopped into a little antique store and bought a tiny little bisque figurine for mother. [Love Lee’s look here of get to the 
point- but he bites his tongue- hurray! progress!!] Now that was before I went to the train shop and that was
where the man changed my marks for dollars. [the script actually has this scene Amanda is describing as opening the episode!]
.. I don’t know why he won’t admit it!
LOL..Oh Amanda! It is obvious why not!! but then.. the police would know this too- they are not dummies!
Amanda: you know, I was so excited about coming to Europe as a courier. All I had to do was just deliver an envelope for Mr Melrose and I get this 
nice, free trip and.. well I did that and that was no problem. The problem came afterwards. Well, I guess there are a lot of couriers.
Lee:Yeah!
Amanda: So this probably happens a lot [Amanda is all smiles – trying to make herself feel better! tee hee]
Lee is straight down the line: Never in recorded history!
Amanda’s smile disappears: Never?
Lee: Never.
Lee continues: Amanda, I gotta figure this thing out, otherwise you will not get out of Germany. [ Notice: ‘I’ have to figure this out.. not ‘we’ ??!!! Lee is totally in lone ranger mode.. Amanda is a problem for him to fix.. not his partner IMHO this episode is before Brunettes are In! ]Which means I will not get out of Germany.

[ Ahhh! IMHO even if she had not been released into his custody- he would have said the same thing.. ]
Amanda: I’m sorry.

Poor Amanda! This is not her fault! Lee doesn’t address it though, he side steps this and gets down to business..
Lee: you know, I remember what they said back at the station. 
If there’s a lot of counterfeit floating around Munich..and an ongoing investigation..I’ll bet Harry knows something about it. He doesn’t miss a hell of a lot.
Amanda: Who’s Harry?
Lee: Harry Hollinger. Our man in Tegernsee. [whooo they spoke the title in this episode too! just like they did in Brunettes.. I like it! ]…that’s a resort area about 45 minutes outside of town.
Amanda: you think he might know something?
Lee: If anybody does, he will. Ha, he’s one of our top operatives. He’s quick, sure, thorough, he’s a real pro. I’ve spent a couple of years with him….. Amanda, I think I’m seeing a little bit of light at the end of the tunnel! We’ll spend the night in Tegernsee with Harry. He’ll have a few answers… Hmm?!! [swoon!!]
Doesn’t Lee look gorgeous at the outdoor cafe? ahhh… One chat with Harry and apparently everything will be fixed! You know.. everything Lee says about Harry turns out to be true – only not in the way we all imagine!!
Ta Daaaaaa!!! Lovely picturesque Tegernsee!! Ok.. who here as been there???!!! do tell!!!
Cue the bavarian music!! whoo hoo!
Our (subtle) introduction to Harry:
Well we get an idea of this Harry guy’s character straight away.. big boozer huh..when asked if he wanted another drink, Harry just takes the bottle.. We see Lee and Amanda arrive. 
Lee sees Harry.. a fleeting look of concern on his face as he sees spots what Harry is up to before he sees Lee..
hmmm…
Lee’s momentary concern is brushed aside as Harry notices Lee standing there.
whoa! That smile is soooo wonderful to see!!! and such a weapon of mass distraction!!! 
I love to see Lee smile like that (when I am not too dizzy and can focus clearly! )
Harry: Lee?
Lee: Harry.
Harry: Noooo it can’t be!!!
Lee: Yes it is!!!!
Awhhhhh A joyous reunion takes place!
Harry is a good friend.. and it makes what’s coming rather sad! 
At least Lee has the best friend of all by his side!! Amanda
This is not a colleague hug.. this is a best buds man hug!! Love the huge slaps Lee gives him on the back!! haaa!!!
Kind of sweet to see Lee be so happy to see Harry.. and to see this side of Lee..
Lee: Ohhhhhh it is good to see you!
Harry: Good? It’s incredible! [I think this is the first real smile Lee’s cracked all episode! I also love to watch Amanda take it all in – paying special attention to Lee and enjoying his affection for Harry. Awh!!]
Harry: Ah what are you doing in Tegernsee, aren’t you still 
stationed down at DC? [Lee looks back at Amanda and moves back to her side.. ].. Got it! You’re the bearer of glad tidings I’m being recalled!
Lee: no. no it’s just a visit.
Harry notices Amanda.. and asks her: are you visiting too?
Amanda: ohh [Lee and Amanda exchange a look] sort of
Lee: Ohh ah this is Amanda King err.. ( Lee does a handwave! Hmm what’s the word to describe Amanda?? errr….. ) an associate.
Amanda holds out her hand to shake hands with Harry….
Amanda: Hello Mr Hollinger.
Harry: Oh.. err Harry Amanda! Even to non associates..
He gives Amanda a look up and down.. and says to
Lee: I see old Billy’s tastes have taken a decided turn for the better!
[Call me crazy but I hate that Line!! especially after last week’s episode.. describing her boss’ taste? ech!! oh .. hey! Meet this associate! Oh yeah she’s a babe!! err she’s standing right there! Maybe it’s a sign of the times but this to me is cringeworthy and not charming at all! Lee and Amanda don’t seem to mind though. UGH!!! they seem to just smile quietly in response, though sincerely.. ]
Iwsod’s dream dialogue to be inserted here->
“Amanda: err someone kidnapped me and tried to sell me into sex slavery last week because of their ‘taste’ so keep your sexist comments to yourself!
Lee: Yeah- Pal!”
Ahhh I feel better now.. thanks for letting me get that out!
Back to the actual episode! Whoooo Harry continues: So how long are you two staying? as far as I’m concerned the longer the better. 😉
[eww I think Amanda doesn’t like this come on! He just crossed a line with her.. and Lee’s smiles begins to wane..] My schloss is your schloss.
Uh oh… Harry wants to leave Tegernsee.. Last time Harry and Lee saw each other: Port Said! [I had to look it up.. it’s in Egypt! ] Harry thinks this reunion calls for a drink.. but Lee hesitates pointing out it’s a bit early..
Harry: Hey! would you lose all respect for me if I said, hey it’s five o’clock somewhere?!
Errr let me check.. yes Harry that would make me loose all respect for you – only I already lost it with the leery comments about Amanda!
Lee responds: what are you talkin about man? I never had any respect for you anyway! ( awhh.. so sad! It is clear that Lee did have respect for Harry.. especially given his glowing description to Amanda of how helpful Harry would be.. ) but Lee puts on a brave face here.. 
Everyone has a laugh, wanting to deny the bad feeling their beginning to have! Harry suggests they solve their problems with Pear Schnapps..
Lee: ahhh Not the problem I brought with me ( he says looking at Amanda!- Also: interesting to note the script says ‘not the problem we brought with us’ an interesting difference.. Lee is very much in ‘I am the pro, the agent and Amanda is the civilian who sometimes helps out the agency’ mode! )
awh.. Lee gives Amanda a little reassuring smile here..
Lee continues: I need a little help Harry. Is there somewhere we can talk? [The script says ‘we‘ need a little help!]
Harry: sure got you.. right out front!
[What…a… smile…… ]
Harry settles his account while Lee and Amanda make their way outside to wait for Harry….

So there’s a lot of counterfeit money floating around Munich. Amanda’s only been there what 48 hours max, how has she manage to flood Munich with so much fake money that the police notice in such a short space of time?! She’s clearly a tourist so am finding the police being a bit dense and short sighted. But however if they weren’t then we wouldn’t have the gorgeous big manly hug between Lee and Harry 🙂 Man who wouldn’t want a smile like that reserved for them *fans herself*
I never understood why Harry was stationed in a little resort 45 mins away from Munich. Surely an agent would have had more to do in a busy city than a holiday resort. No wonder he took to the peach schnapps (not that I can blame him it’s a lovely drink ;)).
Think BB does a great delivery of the no respect line. Manages to convey unease and hope that his gut instinct is wrong in that one line 🙂
I did kinda like Harry to begin with. He seemed like a nice guy who was genuinely bored with his job and as such let himself go a little. I was so wrong 😦

I saw Harry pretty much the same way when I first watched this eppy. It was one of those not broadcast in Germany, so when I first watched it, I had no information at all about what was going to happen. Sometimes, that can be nice, not knowing…

I love how close their hands are in the cafe scene. And Lee’s arm around Amanda’s waist as they are walking makes me think that they are comfortable with each other and physically touching offers reassurance to both of them.
I love Lee’s smile when he meets Harry. . .swoon worthy!!
Amanda is hesitant at first, but trusts Lee. I love her smiling at the reunion hug. Amanda knows that Lee doesn’t have a lot of friend, but for Lee to greet someone like this. . . Harry must be a good friend.

Oh, wait, don’t table the “was it sexist or not” discussion, I’m just catching up. (Or trying to, but with you on break I’m having a tough time, Iwsod!) I actually like how you referred to it in the original post as a sign of the times. I think that’s exactly it. My 27-year old daughter has exactly the same reaction as you to that (which I hadn’t even noticed/considered this I watched it with her!), but in the 80’s it was not considered as inappropriate to comment on a woman’s appearance. Totally agree that the work vs personal envirnment makes a big difference, but regardless, my “Gen-Y” daughter does not see the comment as a compliment as might have been intended. And when I consider something like this, I always use the “double standard check”, if a girl-friend introduced her associate to me in a public place like a restauant, would I say “wow, he’s a lot better looking than your last associate”? Ugh.
As far as distasteful lines, though, it pales in comparison to Brunettes Are In, and my all-time pet peeve of a sexist line is coming up when we get to Dead Pigeon, so I’ll be back on this topic!
Just one other thought about the jail scene but I’m too lazy to go back and post there. Lee was being so mean and cranky, then Amanda started expressing how she felt, bravely but her voice was cracking … and you know what that means … tears cannot be far away. As much as I like to think Lee felt some empathy from her comments and had a change of heart, it may be that at that point he just wanted to make sure she didn’t cry. We all know how he hates tears worse the bullets, right?! I compromise in my opinion here and decide that the threat of tears served as a wake up call to Lee and at that point he switched gears and began to put Amanda’s feelings ahead of his own disappointment.

Yeah I’ll say this and then promise to move on: (!)I thought Harry’s comment on Amanda’s beauty- as an associate he had never met, with the look he gives her and with last week’s ickiness still out there- was not ok.. It probably wouldn’t have bothered me otherwise! and Then.. with Harry’s comment of staying longer (with the drunken leery looks!) and Amanda’s reaction to it – I took that as a come on.. but alot of it was to do with the looks and the way Harry looked her over. ugh.. but I shall let that go – there are soooo many other reasons not to like Harry! and I figured it was the alcohol talkin..

The europe episodes were filmed in the summer – I figured they had a break – [or BB did a cowboy movie 😉 ] after season 1 and then they flew TWA ( 😉 ) to europe to film all the european episodes…times and tegernsee being the first two – with the short hairdo [and Lee lookin fine!].. but this is just a hunch of mine..
Oh and sorry if there was any confusion over your comments not showing Angela – first time posters have to pass through moderation – just the first time they post (it’s by email and IP I think.. you used two different email addresses so both were seen as first time posts, but then if you had used the same email neither would have shown up until I approved you ) – this is in place to stop spam from spoiling our SMK fun!
Hi Debilyn – yeah I can see Harry’s comments could have been taken another way – but ( for the reasons above) I went with the other interpretation! 😉 When I was slowing it down to take pics Harry’s drunken looks at Amanda were IMO not platonic.. and he knew Amanda was not Lee’s lady friend – Lee told him she was an ‘associate’.. ( and he didn’t introduce her as ‘Mrs’ – do you think that is normal?) Yeah with Lee’s affection for Harry we were suppose to like him I think. I am just being ultra sensitive! 😉 if we don’t like him the double cross is not as dramatic! 😉
Hi Julia, yeah the writers were going for drunk, bored Harry who is an old dear friend of Lee’s.. who starts to perk up because he has a job to do.. who is deep down likeable.. but then – pow!! we find out the truth! I wish I could remember what I thought of Harry before I had seen the whole episode!! Hey Charley!!! what did you think of Harry? did you like him until you found out he was a baddie? do tell!! Or anyone remember?
I love to watch that scene of Harry and Lee reuniting, inspite of the underlying tension of – who is Harry, can he help us… Lee and Harry share a sweet affection for one another.. and all of Lee’s smiles? Ohhhh myyyyy Gosssh they are huge and very genuine! It is a sight to behold!! and I love to watch Amanda’s joy at seeing Lee’s joy also! I was smiling the whole time I was taking those pics ( well between reaching for the drool bucket and swooning that is.. ) Looking forward to the rest of the episode Julia? me too me too!! I haven’t written the posts yet.. just cruisin because I’m on holidays! but I am enjoying this episode too (and have the time) so next post shouldn’t be far away!

I felt sorry for Harry when we first met up with him. But he definitely made some bad choices, especially later on when he betrays Lee!! 😛
Whew, you’re right, lots of really great smiles from Lee in this part of the episode! 😀 I also think he’s being really protective of Amanda… 🙂 His bark is worse than his bite… he’s shepherding her around with lots of arms around her, even if what he’s saying isn’t so sweet. 😀
When they first see Harry, Amanda’s face is so like “What?!” and she shoots Lee this look, as if she’s waiting for his opinion, but then when Lee greets him so nicely and they hug her face relaxes and she dons a genuine smile. 😀 So cute.

This little Curch is the “Sankt Laurentius” Curch in Rottach-Egern a town at the Tegernsee.
I’m looking forward to the pictures from Tegernsee, I have to take a close look because in the script they mention another town “Bad Toelz”. That is 30 minutes far away from Tegernsee.

I rather thought that line was actually addressed to Lee. Here’s Harry left with “nothing but drink” and Lee turns up with a lovely lady on his arm. I think Harry catches the closeness between the two and wants to tease Lee a bit. I remember that I almost liked the Harry character, at first, but it didn’t take me long to unlike him.

Whoo I just had a thought.. Amanda’s unimpressed response to Harry’s declaration ‘the longer the better’ – could have been because Amanda just doesn’t want to be there..(she’s stuck in germany, the police have her passport and she just wants to go home) it may have nothing to do with feeling uncomfortable with Harry’s checking her out.. that might be it. The leery look for his co-worker still bugs me though ( but I know I am probably being super sensitive about this in my interpretation! ) Ok okaay!!! I’ll let it go now – I promise!!! 🙂

I was thinking of that hilarious moment in Life of the party where Francine is working as a maid ( Sweeeeeet!! ) and the ex-boyfriend doesn’t recognise her – and she tells Amanda she has often been told she is unforgettable.. and she honestly believes it.. ahhh Francine.. Love to hate cha baby!!! 🙂 The show would not be the same without her! 🙂

I wasn’t deeply offended by Harry’s comments, in part because of the time period (as a young reporter around this same time frame, I was once asked to make coffee at a city council meeting – and then invited to sit on a councilman’s lap!), and in part because I think it was intended to be “drunk talk.” That is, I think the intent of the lines, from a scripting point of view, was more to embarrass Lee at his friend’s boorishness than to insult Amanda.
Side note: If Lee is fluent in German, why doesn’t he pronounce Tegernsee correctly? Surely the last syllable must be pronounced ZAY, not SEE.

No, Kgmohror, the last syllable must be pronounced SEE. Like the English word “see” or “sea” BUT with a soft “s” like in “zoo”. So you would probably write it “zee” to pronounce it correctly.
I havn’t seen the origin ep lately and I can’t remember how Lee (BB) pronounced it, so I can’t tell weather he does it correctly or not. 🙂
