Harry, Lee and Amanda head to the outskirts of Munich.. Hey insert gratuitous cutsey cultural references here!!! 🙂 A marching band, beer drinking and partying!! whoo hooo!! (what no reference to TWA?? )
They stop at a village party.. to leave Amanda there, to wait while they do their tough guy stuff.. The village isn’t referred to in the episode.. and I can’t see any signs –except this one:
Anyone know where this could be? the location ‘ Sollne’ is referred to in the script – is this correct? where is Sollne? can anyone help us out here?
Amanda objects to not coming with them. Arguing she can stay in the car ( honestly! really truly she can!! ) and.. ‘ If anything goes wrong I can call for help’ – Hmmm it seems Amanda doesn’t trust Harry to look after Lee – maybe??
Lee: Just for a change will you do what I ask you to do?
Amanda: That’s not very nice to say just for a change. I am very good at following orders when they are clear. [Ohh dear!! I don’t think Lee can make it any clearer! she’s not going to win that one..Poor Lee! ]
Lee: then follow this one: Stay here! We’ll come back and get you when it is all over. Believe me.
Amanda: When it’s all over? what if there are a lot of them?
Poor Amanda!! You know, Amanda wouldn’t be so worried if Lee hadn’t taken some crazy risks in the time he’s known her! Well.. that and she probably doesn’t trust Harry!
Amanda continues: Listen, I could wait in the car, I could be a lookout, I could honk the horn if I saw anyone coming…
Lee gives Amanda a look here.. lol.. she knows he isn’t budging!! and Amanda continues in the same breath: …alright I will stay here please be careful!
So Amanda! so Funny! and at the same time.. very sweet!
I think Lee thinks it’s kinda endearing also!
[I always wondered why Lee didn’t tell her about his plan.. but I’ve come to the conclusion that he couldn’t – because Harry was watching.. and if Amanda wasn’t so worried- maybe Harry wouldn’t buy it.. at least.. this is how I make sense of it! What do you all think about this???]
LOL.. bemused Lee leaves with Harry.. come on Lee- you’ve got to admit: Amanda is never dull!
So off to the Old Mill.. and… it’s an ambush..There are three baddies inside.. and Harry- somewhere..
We are suppose to think Lee has made a big mistake coming here with Harry..( I think that was what I was thinking first time I saw this!). Lucky for Lee, these baddies don’t shoot at him while he is just standing there in plain view! ( well, he might get hurt!!) no.. they wait till he has some cover!! and.. they
are really lousy shots!
)
Still, Lee is penned in with no way out! eek! What will our super spy do?
We see Harry heading away from the Saw Mill – definitely not backing up Lee..and leaving him to die! (Maybe he didn’t want to see Lee get killed? well.. he is still Evil!)
And we cut to lots of gratuitous bavarian dancing… Ok ok.. yes we are in Germany.. hehehee.. Poor Amanda.. we see her wandering amongst the happy, festive
strangers, she smiles -but she is worried sick about her friend – and in no mood to party! Poor Amanda..
Back to Lee and Uh oh.. things aren’t looking good ( except Lee.. I mean.. he’s always looking good- even when things aren’t looking good ) He is still trapped in the same spot.. with no way out..
But wait! Volkenauer comes with his men and saves the day.. wow.. for once Lee didn’t save the day? NAH!! no chance!.. Lee is still the hero!! ROFLMAO!!! Turns out, Lee knew all along and planned the whole thing.. he tipped off Volkenauer, the german raincoat! [the look of confusion Lee gives when hearing this back up arrive is a cheap shot! LOL!! It makes no sense when we find out Lee was expecting him! Aie!! ]
Loved how Volkenauer posed at the doorway with his gun drawn and his hand in his pocket.. Oh yes.. Lee- he can give you a run for your money!!!
tee heee..
Anyway, all the baddies have been rounded up.. except Harry – maybe Lee assumes he is being held outside by the police..
Lee comes over to thank Volkenauer for saving him.. oh wait..Errrr no it doesn’t quite come out like that: Where the hell were you?! [ ROFL!!! Typical Lee!]
Volkenauer: I was fascinated to watch an American operative in action. Just like John Wayne. [I bet BB enjoyed the cowboy reference! 😉 ]
Lee: Ah.. [ Lee is busy brushing himself off – lookin good Lee.. ] Bravado over- Lee continues: thanks! [Ahhhh there it is!!!
tee heee..]
I think Volkenauer gave as good as he got with the John Wayne crack- Lee deserved a ribbing!! Though I don’t remember John Wayne cowering waiting to be rescued Ok.. I exaggerate.. but Lee deserves a bit of teasing!
As Portillo passes them Volkenauer says: this must be your senor Portillo.
Lee: Not mine.
Volkenauer: you are much too modest Herr Stetson. Impetuous, but modest. [ LOL! the one upmanship is alive and well! ]
Volkenauer adds as they leave the sawmill: Your pleasure is probably not as great as mine. Herr Hollinger was your friend?
Lee: yeah, he was my friend. Where do you have him?
Volkenauer: He never entered the mill of course, one of my men was assigned to your car, he will have him in custody…
At this moment they realise- the car is gone!!!! arghhhh!!! Harry has the jump on them!!!! The one baddie who knows where Amanda is has gotten away!! argh!!
Whooo we have an Amanda in Danger moment!!!
As soon as Lee hears Harry has gone he mutters: Amanda!!!!!! [man.. I wish we had a close up of that moment!! ] and he and Volkenauer run for the car!!
I’ll finish up there for the moment.. I’d love to hear from ya! byeeeee!! back with more soon!!!
The way Lee says “He was my friend” rips my heart out.

So Volkenauer has his hands in his pockets. Again. Doesn’t that man every worry about trip hazards…..he’d never be able to save himself if he fell 😉 Lord he even shoots with one hand down there!!!
I forgot to say in previous comments IWSOD I agree at times Volkenauer sounds South African so you’re not alone in your thinking.

I always figured Lee didn’t tell Amanda why she couldn’t go with him because it wasn’t need to know. At least that would be his official reason. Unofficially (and speaking from job experience as well as parental experience 🙂 I think that sharing too much information opens the door for a point/counterpoint discussion that Lee did not have time to go into, nor was this negotiable. In other words, Amanda was baiting Lee in her usual way, but this time Lee didn’t bite. Amanda realizes that Lee is not giving in this time, and almost certainly guesses that there is need-to-know info that she isn’t aware of. I’m sure that only added to her anxiety while Lee was gone. This must have been a really angsty time for Amanda … do we see that many times in SMK where Lee is in serious trouble, she knows it, but she *can’t* be there? Of course there are some, but most of the times Lee is in trouble, she at least has the comfort of knowing she’s watching his back.
And I’ve always attributed Lee’s look of surprise in the sawmill to being surprised that it took so long for Volkenauer to show up, combined with one of relief that he finally did…. the old “it’s about time” look.

Lee knows the sawmill is a trap but enters anyways. Luckily he brought his own back up, because he knew Harry wouldn’t. I also wish we could have a close up of Lee realizing that the “Amanda is in trouble moment” is here. Love how concerned he is for her.

Hi Jeanine! Yeahhh Lee put a lot of trust in the German police huh!! 🙂
Yes! there are a number of Amanda is in trouble moments of realization for Lee – but we don’t really see his reaction – ugh!!! so frustrating!! instead, the scene cuts or we hear in a wideshot ‘ Amanda!’ or.. we see Lee just start running! Nooo I want to see the big scary close up of angsty Lee – then he can run 😉 tee hee.. I’m greedy I know 🙂
I love how concerned Lee is for her too..

I love this John Wayne reference… and Volkenauer is just great… 😀
Well, Iswod, you made me curious and I searched a bit in the world wide web. “Solln” (without the e at the end) is a district of Munich. Anyhow, I read “Mesner Gütl” on the sign in the screencap. Found out that there is a restaurant “Mesner Gütl” but not in Munich (Solln) but in “Rottach-Egern”. It has a lake terrace with a great view onto the Tegernsee as it’s mentioned on the restaurant’s homepage: http://www.mesner-guetl.de/
I also found this picture and I think it’s the view we also have in the screencap, isn’t it?

Hi Charley! LOL!!! sooooo they filmed some of the drinking/partying scenes in Tegernsee and then slid them in to the scene at the end?? ahhhh the Magic of television!!! It’s a charming place! I’m adding that to my Tegernsee locations I must visit when I get there!! ( could be in 10 years but I don’t mind!! I’ll get there one day!)
Thanks so much for sharing that info with us – so interesting!! 🙂
