Hi everyone! Before we jump into The Eyes Have It – I’d like to pause for a little moment of SMK Whimsy… Here’s a little celebration of SMK Pick up Lines (so far) 
they’re in random order.. and by no means a complete list! Okay.. I confess – some of the pick up lines may not strictly meet the definition of a pick up line.. but it’s all in good fun and I’ve gone for it!
To save time, I haven’t identified the episode.. or at times, the context. So if you can’t recall the moment- feel free to ask here and I’m sure someone here will be able to jog your memory! Goodness knows with all these swoony moments it can be hard to remember 
Here goes!
Lee: “Just walk with me..” 
[Of course I would start with this! Yep.. the title of this blog could be considered a pick up line ha!]
Lee (softly): “Yeah, but ‘okay’…isn’t good enough for you.”
Lots of pick up lines in J.Edgar’s ghost!
Lee: “Well, that’s why they call it Happy Hour, Amanda…Come on, get in the mood.”
[I think this is a general flirty challenge on Lee’s part]
A well timed pause on the stairs.. then: Lee: “Mrs King!”
Lee: “We’re getting married”
Amanda: “You can look but don’t touch… [Amanda shows Lee his photo] … This is freeeeee! It’s the negative that’s gonna cost ya!…
…I think we’ll probably start with dinner at Spencer’s…and we’ll take it from there! ”
Lee: “Hi. What are you doing tonight?… Oh no problem, you should be able to break them (her plans) by nine o’clock”
Random dude: “Bonsoir Cherie!” 
[LOL I just noticed he’s wearing a wedding ring!]
Ahhh Craiger.. the serial pick up liner user!
Craiger (to Amanda): “Hi.. Everybody calls me Craiger.. I uh, saw you come in,……umm… We’ve met somewhere. No, no, no, no. I, I remember, it was, uh, Senator Bacon’s cocktail party…at the reception for Joan Sutherland at the, uh, Kennedy?…Uhh…
… Uh, oh, I got it! The champagne brunch after the BMW rally. Maybe we, uh… Maybe it was in our, er, distant past. I went to, uh, law school at-…..Maybe it was in the cafeteria at the Department of…
(to a new woman): Hi. You, you look familiar to me, too…”
Delano : “ Victoria Greenwich, Where have you been all my life?”
Amanda “…well did we.. have.. are we? ah have.. are we inv.. involved in anyway?” [unintentional pick up line!]
Marvin: “You know, I don’ t think there’s a prettier sight anywhere… than a full moon over the Marvin’s plant.”
[Yes I think this was a disguised pick up.. he was IMHO seeing if Amanda was interested]
Lee: “Look, why don’t you lie down and rest. You can use my bedroom….”
Alan Chinberlain: (to Amanda) “excuse me, miss. I was just.. uh.. I was wondering if maybe we could walk for a while and talk if you have the time….It might help us both recover from that near miss.”
[smooth. Okay it’s a moment later where he asks her out.. but this image is way better]
Amanda says she still feels a little cold after her run in with the freezer, Lee responds: “Ah, well, you know something?…I’ve got just the cure for that…… it’s gonna take some time…… and dinner…… and a very special bottle of wine.”
Lee: “You know.. Ahhh.. these things go on… sometimes for hours.” 
I think this whole sequence next is one big pick up!
Lee: “…Now a professional, trained agent plans every detail, every nuance……The word “accident” does not enter into his vocabulary…
– it takes technique…Look. For instance,…
…uh I’m sitting right here on this park bench. Now –… your assignment……is to make……a casual and natural contact, establish a relationship with me…… and then get me to ask you to the Kennedy tonight……for a Verdi festival…
[Lee gives Amanda a lesson in the pick up!]
…. Look.. you sit, and I’ll show you… Hey Toots!!!
How’re you doing?….Heard any good opera lately?…
…Well, what do you say we ahh hit the Kennedy later for a little Verdi?..
…Ooh, Gee, that’s…that’s too bad…[he gets out the tickets]
…These were for tonight. Hmmm….
… About 8?…
[A successful pick up! ]
… See how easy that was?!” 
Captain Lee: “Call me!”
Lee: “You’re still cold huh?…
…..Look, here, let’s huddle closer.. Let our body heat warm us up huh?! 
… How’s that?
Amanda: Oh that’s much better, thank you.
Lee: you sure you’re okay now?
Amanda: yeah, that’s much better.
Lee: good.”
this whole sequence could be a lovely pick up
Lee: And she has a very special daughter too.
Lee: “…she (Penny) asked me to give you something. Personally…
…She made me promise.”
doh! without the interruption.. this would have been a successful pick up
David: “Now, no prompting. It was Paris, spring of ’81, or Athens, ’82, you were wearing your bright red dress. Or I guess it was just last week at the plain, old Agency, you were standing next to plain, old Lee Stetson.”
[I think Lee is no man’s wingman.. especially when the pick up line is aimed at Amanda!]

I might break my plans for masterful Lee, but in RL, I hope I’d refuse to break my plans for a man who told me what to do. I kind of wish Amanda had refused to teach him a lesson… 🙂

short version? this ‘pick up’ was Lee and the job all mixed up into one.. so I figure she dropped everything because she wants to show she is keen to do this work.. it’s not necessarily about Lee 😉

Yeah, me too. No matter how hot a guy is/was, I would not change plans just because he snapped his fingers. Now, if there was some potential espionage involved……..

100% agree with Cindy 🙂 and now we are in season 3 Lee is utterly irresistible 🙂
Season 1 Lee? I think I joke about how gorgeous he is and have fun with it but really, season 1 Lee was a jerk at times..
But yes.. err if danger excitement and intrigue were on the cards because you were saving the country, you may overlook lee’s cockiness and rudeness and just drop what you are doing and go ha!
I think there’s a post in all this – but do I have time to write it nope! [if anyone is interested..go for it!]

I agree – I wouldn’t jump up for just anyone. In this scene I don’t think Lee is being particularly jerky – at least Amanda doesn’t know that yet. It’s not until later when we learn he just didn’t want to go to the party alone that he comes across as a jerk.

Yep – I agree! .. poor Amanda but then fate seems to get back at Lee by having Delano hit on Amanda ha! 🙂

Very true, Iwsod, but I can’t help thinking that “the job” and “being with luscious Lee” got quite blurred in Amanda’s mind for most of S1…. 🙂

I don’t think Lee would have appealed to Amanda and her crush in season 1, without his whole being a spy thing. I think it was the hook that got her to look beyond his rudeness to see that there was actually a principled, good man underneath it all.. at least this is MHO! 🙂

Very true. I think I’d also be…dare I say…intrigued?…by any man claiming to be a spy, regardless of his looks. (Cellist or astronaut would also work for me 😀 )

My favorite in part on is “Hey Toots”…..That just cracks me up. The look of disgust on Amanda ‘s face, and Lee’s playful attitude is so cute .

It’s a golden moment.. it’s true!
It’s the dimples.. and Amanda’s over the top disgust.. which does a complete 180 the moment she sees the tickets and realises he has pulled one over on her 🙂 genius tag! why can’t they all be that good?!! 🙂

Loving it so far. No surprise, Lee says most of the lines. Part of the reason why he’s so darn lovable. 😉 Since joining JWWM, I’m wondering if his best pick-up line might be, “Just Walk With Me.”

“Chinberlain” Bwa ha ha ha ha ha! And you’ve got to admit, David Bensen’s pick up line was hilarious! And Lee, in his pirate’s garb. Oh My Heck! Pure gold!
I have a couple in mind — it will be interesting to see if they made the list in part two.
